@Seth I think 6-7 inches is the 'standard'. ANything bigger is ?????

guys guess what I'm doing

And proper ebooks reflow to your font size and such. If its a PDF, e ink is often not that great

@JourneymanGeek 6" is standard for both Kobo and Kindle AFAIK, dunno about BN.

My Kindle Touch is 6".

@Avery prolly the same panel size
I have a paperwhite

12:02 AM
@JourneymanGeek koreader is f-ing amazing with PDF

@JourneymanGeek Finally big enough to actually read technical books? ;p

@Seth ... I read half of strosoup's C++ book on my phone
which was like 5 inches

It's been very hot here for last few days. With added bonus of lots of power disruption. :( How are you?

4:31 AM
lol who voted this up? askubuntu.com/a/917955/61218

Not the first one I've seen

And the Q can be a dupe. Unfortunately I'm on mobile

4:46 AM
Haha me too
@SumeetDeshmukh I edited that answer but it's a tricky case

Argh. Why am I pulling 65 KB/s from AWS...

Grr mobile browser started refusing to display the desktop site again. Hate.

5:11 AM
Have you tried PowerShell for that? RT @thatcoderiguana: I don't need a girlfriend, I get plenty of relationship problems with #SQL xD
I don't think he got the joke?

@Anwar as you said, heat and power disruptions (couldn't reply because of power disruption) || @Zanna you're the edit expert ;)

Maybe the heat is involved in causing power disruption

Even in England it is rather hot for the time of year, but since that means it's staggering into the mid-twenties I can only be grateful...
@SumeetDeshmukh :) thanks

5:27 AM
45 degree c in normal in some places of India. it's just too hot here

WTF, recruiters are opening issue request on my GitHub projects to contact me instead of sending e-mails to the address in the commit messages.
@Zanna That affects most of Europe atm, I believe.
I've been walking around Berlin in shorts and shirts since the end of March with some interruption. Normally I can only do that starting some time in May.

should I award a bounty before it's due (in 4 days) because the question isn't getting much attention any way? @JacobVlijm tagged you because it's your bounty

6:05 AM
@SmokeDetector Long Path tool spammers again.

6:16 AM
@SumeetDeshmukh Either way is fine with me, thanks a lot!

@Jacob Vlijm I'm going out of town, so maybe I should do it now, rather than risking the unknown metric of LTE connectivity while I'll mostly be traveling, plus thr is a factor of my fragile memory.

@SumeetDeshmukh Haha, yeah, maybe :)

@JacobVlijm I'll try to strech it as far as possible, make sure it gets the most attention it deserves

@SumeetDeshmukh Don't worry, whatever is convenient for you.

@JacobVlijm yess!
My fragile memory could also be effect of Heat in India right now! :p

6:26 AM
Wow, what's the temperature?

Right now 41 degree Celsius, and it's still rising! By 2 pm it touches 45 sometimes!

amateur

Aaaargh...

@SumeetDeshmukh Yikes. We only ever got 39 here.

....But...., we are hitting no less then 26 today :)
They said...

6:33 AM
38.6 is the record in the Netherlands. In 1944 that was :=)
@SumeetDeshmukh Try better! You aint even close to the world record.

@Rinzwind and we are still recovering from that :)

@jokerdino what you got?

Not so bad haha
High 30s

^ hot network question

But the humidity is a killer.

6:35 AM
Yes, we live on the coast and it's very humid here too.
It makes the summer nearly unbearable at times.

Isn't the sea tempering the temperature?

puts on a hoodie send me some heat

Try searching for "temperature, amravati, Maharashtra, india" I'm pretty sure the world record is higher
Or it's some unit confusion

lol
world record is 56.7C. Death valley.

Ohhh i though Netherlands was world record! (misterpretation of well written text)
From tomorrow to sat it's constantly gonna be 44 according to google!

6:50 AM
Anybody here has some experience with ViMbAdmin?

Amravati, Maharashtra is such a lovely sounding place name

@Zanna it's not a lovely place though. not in this time of year anyway

hmm. Names are not everything I guess

now that I thought about it a little more, it's not a lovely place to visit Any time of year

:/
I can say the same about my home town

7:03 AM
London?

oh, no... London is quite a good place to visit in the summer
I'm from a small town in the East Midlands
boring rural area

boring rural areas are generally better than always alive metropolitan cities

hmm it's not picturesque, it's not a village with a close knit community or anything. It's a cultural desert imho. I prefer London. But I think I am going to move back home in 5 or 6 weeks because my landlord is kicking me out and the cost of living is crazy here, can't afford it any more

7:21 AM
how can someone with 200 reputation give a bounty of 300?
nevermind, I made a fool off myself
of*

generous person :)

@SumeetDeshmukh hmm. And we got 6:30 AM to 12:30PM power cut as an extra bonus! The temp seems to be 34c only but humidity is killing us,
You're basically wet all the time :D

I didn't take into consideration that reputation was deducted as soon as bounty was raised. now now they have 200 rep
@Anwar that much powercut? where do you live?

Which bounty?

@Anwar just general observation (how can someone with 200 reputation give a bounty of 300?)

7:32 AM
@SumeetDeshmukh Don't ask. I hate these rulers so much!
@SumeetDeshmukh They had 500

@Anwar yes, That's why I said I made a fool of myself :p
@Zanna you got that right.

@SumeetDeshmukh You're not the first one certainly

@Anwar but man, 6 am to 12 pm!!! must be PITA

Oh Nice. You're getting the bounty! congrats!

7:36 AM
It's not guaranteed the bounty will be awarded.
Maybe they don't know how to give it

I think they were going to give it to another answer

@Anwar Am i? because in a meta post the OP said and I quote What if second answer is good, which is not the accepted one?
yes exactly

@Zanna that would be nice

@jokerdino lol

7:38 AM
@Zanna they also said it's becoming a trend, but I raised bounty on jacobs answer because it helped me and I had to make amends for a crime

@jokerdino why do you say that?
haha when you are new, 2 things happening is a trend

"officially become a trend" hmm
We seem to have an official trend manager.

I have not seen any trend on AskUbuntu, just that Uboontu thing

It's a sad trend that people write Ask Ubuntu without a space.

true

7:43 AM
2 trends then, Uboontu and AskUbuntu
it's like Twitter hashtag thing #AskUbuntu , like that

@jokerdino I was writing AskUbuntu yesterday, changed it with space when remembered your discussion other day.

Yay, I did something.

But why is it better?

That's the trademark.

hmmm this AskUbuntu || Ask Ubuntu || ask ubuntu thing is making me curious

7:48 AM
But when combined you'd know that it's a thing. I think I'd use "Ask Ubuntu" or Ask Ubuntu from now on

in bolds! ASK UBUNTU (just to make it more clear)

I don't like all caps

*hides*

?

7:54 AM
I wouldn't like it if people started deleting spaces in my name.
@Anwar then use askubuntu.com
So, people would know it's a website.

thr are no spaces in your name ;o

there's some in front and at the end.

@SumeetDeshmukh He meant the opposite. Add a space at suitable place :P

:P

well, SE chat isn't respecting my name then. it's Sumeet Deshmukh and people reffer to me as @SumeetDeshmukh :P

7:57 AM
It's taking revenge for butchering her sister's name.

SE chat hates spaces.

Probably not a python fan.

who is her sister? I'm not a python fan , not after I asked a question about it

Ask Ubuntu is a sister of SE chat

@Zanna my knowledge about family tree of SE sites is equal to my knowledge about python (Null)

8:02 AM
oh same here (on both counts), I was just interpreting... but possibly misinterpreting. Please excuse my presumptuousness @jokerdino

user136984

user136984
It's the first I heard of it.

Its been on the news in the netherlands since 6 am at least.

user136984
8:12 AM
I got rid of the "BREAKING", happy now?

that news is horrible.

"attack"

@ParanoidPanda yeah the only acceptable time to use "breaking" is when aliens land.

user136984
@jokerdino: What? Are you disputing that it was or just strangely stating the obvious?

user136984
And how on earth did this make the front page on Japanese news???

user136984
The world has its priorities all mixed up...

@ParanoidPanda "Japan" aint the world :-P

askubuntu.com/questions/918024/… even OP's unclear weather he's asking an unclear question here

lol

8:32 AM
cloudy sky might make things tricky

"there are things we don't know that we don't know"

Wait for a clear sky

I live in London - it could be weeks!

8:45 AM
so you too have unclear weather just like the OP then.

whether the weather is cloudy or not, that question will still be unclear

now I can't edit that weather to whether

if you did, the comments that follow would become very cryptic

I'm mentioning weather every where because weather in here is really harsh

9:00 AM
Hello :)

@SumeetDeshmukh yes best not to encourage it

@Rinzwind Or when decelerating.
Or, ehm, aggressively disassembling.

@Zanna yes

@terdon wouldn't that be braking?

@Zanna Well, if you're going to be all pedantic about it, yes. :P

9:07 AM
oops

@Zanna does shift+ PrtScn also work in Stock ubuntu? for selection screenshot, it does work in Ubuntu Gnome?

I don't know, I'm using MATE ;)
@terdon if it's any excuse, I'm listening to a recording I made of a conversation for an ESOL assessment and trying to pick up the speaker's errors

@Zanna Excuse? No excuse is ever needed if using pedantry against me. Turnabout is always fair play.

lol :D
MATE has its own screenshot program and + does nothing by default, if anyone cares haha

I take it Shift+prtSc takes a screenshot on unity?
Does by itself work? That's the shortcut I expect.

9:13 AM
askubuntu.com/questions/918036/… marked it as dupe, title might be different but the answer on duplicate question works of the scenario
yes PrtScn takes whole screenshot and Shift + PrtScn let's you resize (at least in Ubuntu Gnome

Ah

askubuntu.com/questions/918036/… look at the comment below the answer, what more does this guy want?

@SumeetDeshmukh What do you mean?
The user has very wisely decided to wait a bit before accepting in order to attract more answers. Nothing wrong with that.

@terdon OP wants to wait for a better answer. but the question is already duplicate(ish)

In the meantime, why don't you add gnome-screenshot to your answer since shutter is absolutely not a "simple screenshot app which loads fast". Gnome-screenshot seems like a much better choice.

9:19 AM
@terdon it's a screenshot

?
Shutter is great, but it is heavy and slow to load and far from simple.

@terdon I think it's okay though

Up to you. Personally, I would say that it doesn't fit the question. The question asks for simple and loads fast and shutter does neither. It's an absolutely great screenshot app, but as far as I can tell, does not actually have the features (simplicity and speed) that the OP asked for.
But your answer, your call.

it's not his answer
he just edited it
is this question missing detail? I can't imagine why they would need 6 servers...

@Zanna Ah. Indeed, my bad.

9:25 AM
they should have mentioned that doesn't work in the question... I think vanilla Ubuntu uses gnome-screenshot btw

If print-scrn doesn't work then it's a special case and very specific case.

@Zanna then <kbd>Shift</kbd> + <kbd>PrtScn</kbd> should also work
now I know that doesn't work here
I just became smarter by making a fool of myself again

fyi I made the button by cheating - the syntax is [tag:text]

oh god, I remember that I used to be like those answerers

@SumeetDeshmukh lol it's the best way - I never forget those lessons
@SumeetDeshmukh hm?

@SumeetDeshmukh The standard answe should be what shift+printScr with mapping the printScr to another key!

@Zanna lol || @Anwar what kinda keyboard doesn't have PrtScn?

maybe they spilled chocolate cake on that key...

@SumeetDeshmukh I can't imagine! That's why I asked

9:33 AM
I don't think I've ever used the PrtScn shortcut even when working on systems that have it.
I never want a screenshot of the entire desktop anyway

taken with prtScr without entire desktop :D
It's quicker imo

@SumeetDeshmukh All the 80-key ones, I would guess. Like this one:

There are many keyboard models without a numpad, I wouldn't be surprised if they also don' t have the PrtSc button.

@terdon that doesn't have PrtScn :O

9:38 AM
Yep
Well, if you're trying to cut down on the keyboard's size and remove less useful keys, it makes sense to remove PrtSc. it's next to useless after all.

They could add one easily on F6 (assuming it's not already used)

@terdon maybe it is. but I've got used to taking screenshot like that.
or should I say? It's primarily opinion based!

Heh, true.
Still, even if you do use it for screenshots, taking screenshots is not a very big part of what you use your computer for, so I can understand getting rid of that key when trying to make a small keyboard.

my keyboard has no numpad but it does have
and I take lots of screenshots with it haha
not that I disagree with the general point shuts up

I have to take a lot of screenshots

9:43 AM
I guess I'm too used to Super+Space (launches gnome-do) -> type "scr" to open gnome-screenshot and be able to choose what and how to take a screenshot off.

because i'm generally sending beautiful looking gtk themes screenshot to windows people. so that they might wanna try Ubuntu out

@SumeetDeshmukh name some please

is this answerable? like... can we reproduce that? waiting for someone else with the same ancient computer to appear and post an answer...

I was voting to close this as bug and guess what?..

Adapta is my current fav @Anwar , In past I've used Macbuntu which I liked and Pop gtk theme (system 76 guys have that as default)

9:47 AM
this should be a dupe of this I think? I can't vote, just retracted my unclear vote as they added requested info

@SumeetDeshmukh How do windows people react to these themes?

@Anwar ouch :/ bad luck

@Anwar they actually find them cool, some people wanted to try Ubuntu just for Macbuntu GTK theme
@Zanna should I flag it? as dupe

@SumeetDeshmukh yes please, if you agree
well you can vote :)
