00:00 - 10:0010:00 - 00:00

12:00 AM
Well, my point was to find an external keyboard, so that you can use it on any computer which has at least a usb port

Back in the late 80's / early 90's IBM laptops were expensive.

laptops were expensive in general at that time
portability was a new chick thingy
nowadays, portability is kind of a must and necessity

The first IBM portable computer weight 30 lbs and looked like a suitcase. It had 9" monochrome screen. Haha did you ever look funny carrying that thing around.
Also had my hands on the second Apple Macintosh in Edmonton in 1984 or 85... that was cool to take home too :)
Expensive technology is affordable when someone else pays for it...haha
I don't like 30 seconds to Mars second album This is War as much as the first one Beautiful Lie. The second album seems like some kind of threat where as the first album was more about hope.

@Zacharee1 yes I have bought NVidia products...

nvm :p

12:14 AM
@Serg if we have a snow day tomorrow I will love you and take back all the bad things I said about you and the weather...
@Zacharee1 mmk...
@Zacharee1 I am still curious as to what the question was....

Just wondering if a card was a good buy
but I'm just installing 14.04 instead
so I can use my AMD card

@Zacharee1 what card?

Personally I would spend the extra 30 for the 1050 or 1050TI

@TheXed The Weather Network was speculating on a foot of snow for Southern Ontario tomorrow. You're close by so might get a "snow day" :)

12:22 AM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix they be calling for 7-8 inches...

@TheXed If you put your mind to it and think really hard you can influence the weather.
It's almost like bash programming :p

@WinEunuuchs2Unix you should know me better then that...I put my mind to nothing...to much work...

Not to mention the kids and the gym...

I haven't been to the gym in forever...
Mainly because I get 12-14k steps at work....

Another New Years Resolution bites the dust Queen sings

12:24 AM
No I have actually lost weight since I stopped going to the gym :-P

It was all that junk food you ate after gym thinking you earned it :p

@WinEunuuchs2Unix lol I wouldn't doubt it...

grr
I installed fglrx and now it's only showing one card

nub

pls
alright
time for the NVIDIA card

12:33 AM
Good boy.

not buying one
I have a 512MB card here
it didn't work in tandem with the AMD in 16.04
but I haven't tried 14.04
strange
it sees the card, but no screens

why are you installing fglrx
stop being an amd pleb

because I have an AMD card

lol
gpu aside, ryzen is quite the hype

oh yeah
if only they could support legacy devices
(and this "legacy" device is like a year old...)

12:37 AM
did they ever explain why their definition of legacy is unlike others in the market

it's apparently 3.5yrs old o_O
but still

Is it okay if someone checks my recent answer?

Love to, want to link it?

150 Mbps up at the airport. I approve.

Alright my off-topic questions: I have a throw rug with a cigarette burn. I have a throw blanket with a cigarette burn. I've finally wrapped them up to throw out. When you are throwing throw things do you call this "Destiny by Design" or do you call it "Money up in smoke?". This could be name of second chapter of my book. Second question when I throw the Throw Rug out with the Throw Blanket inside will the thousand eyes watching in the hood call the cops and say "it might be a body"?

@NathanOsman UPLOAD ALL THE THINGS

...and the slow reply was because of NetworkManager crashing my Wi-Fi. (I've tried searching AskUbuntu, and found possible duplicates that don't work.)

@luk3yx For a second I thought you were @Serg polar bear without bacon in his mouth.

aaaand they STILL don't work in tandem with NVIDIA proprietary

@luk3yx Wifi in Ubuntu is crap... After buying 3 or four usb thingy's I finally gave up and used blue cable between laptop and router.

12:45 AM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix This is the only laptop I have an issue with. I'm tethered to a mobile device.

LOGIN LOOP
AGGH

@Zacharee1 YUUUSSS!

@luk3yx haha when I first moved into this apartment I plugged cell phone via USB into laptop and used it to access the net...still better than Wifi over Ubuntu in my experience.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix ...and I thought @Serg's profile picture was a wolf with eggs as eyes.

@luk3yx No I think @KazWolfe has a wolf and @Serg has a polar bear and I think you have a dog.
I think it's bacon and eggs....

12:47 AM
wtf
the nvidia drivers uninstalled fglrx o_O

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I do have a dog.

Well I was right at least one out of three times :)
@Zacharee1 I think nVidia stands for "No Video For You in Linux".
5

@WinEunuuchs2Unix No VIDeo for you In linux. Where's the "DIA"?

What is this english class? I'm drinking you should be too :p
DIA = Dead In ram Addressing... it all works out in the end.

this is ridiculous

12:52 AM
elaboration?
^^ might not be a word but it sounds good.

Why does my reputation page recommend me to go for the "Critic" badge by downvoting someone? It shouldn't recommend you to downvote someone.

Well please down vote @Zacharee1 and not me because he has higher rep and can afford the hit.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I'm not downvoting anyone just yet.

You could down vote me in politics SE though because I'm already persona non-grata there :(
Why is it people in politics and media hate me?

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I have no account there. You're safe for now.

12:54 AM
Maybe because those overpaid bums never worked a day in their life!
@luk3yx As soon as you go anywhere in SE you can join and automatically get 100 points signing bonus.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix How different are these "points" to reputation?

Anyway I'm the last person on earth to ask about WiFi because I hate it like White hates black or Black hates White. @chili555 is the networking guru.

@luk3yx there not.
What is wrong with your wifi @WinEunuuchs2Unix?

@TheXed Nothing because the F'ing thing is turned OFF :p

@WinEunuuchs2Unix oh well then maybe that is the problem?
Maybe you need a better router...I'll sell you a netgear AC1750 for $100, never been opened.

12:58 AM
@TheXed My blue cable works perfectly. My 70 neighbours with WiFi are probably channel transitioning and playing unfair with the 3 or 4 available channels.

5G FTW! @WinEunuuchs2Unix

If I were mean I would buy a wifi booster and crank out 1,000 watts on channels 3, 9 and 11.
My laptop doesn't have 5G, only my router, cell phone, TV and bluray player have that tech.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix or get a wifi jammer...

@WinEunuuchs2Unix USB 3.0?

1:00 AM
Or maybe make a tinfoil tunnel between my laptop and the router... then I could unplug that ungodly blue cable :p
2

@WinEunuuchs2Unix won't save you from interference - that tinfoil tunnel will cause issues too :P

@TheXed I've got more USB 3 cables than you have spaghetti in your cupboard.
Assuming you aren't Italian

Then I bet you can get a USB Wifi dongle with 5G capabilities...
We do eat a lot of pasta, I bet I have 5 boxes in my cupboard of various flavors of pasta...

I already bought 3 USB Wifi Dongle, plus a Wifi with rabbit ears and 15 foot cord. No more Wifi in Ubuntu for me!
The router is only 5 feet away for crying out loud.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix too close?

1:04 AM
Granted when I bought all those gadgets it was in the other house where the router was 100 feet away through 3 or 4 walls and another story up.
Honestly I see no need for wifi or bluetooth when you can simply plug things in.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix the 5 boxes of pasta don't include the 8 boxes of macroni and cheese we bought by accident...

@TheXed I don't think it's too close. Besides Wifi is connected along with wired at the same time. I'm just ranting :o)

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I prefer plugging things n too but that isn't always practical or possible...

@TheXed I don't have any spaghetti but I did score a dozen Kraft Dinner on sale for 8 bucks down from 23 bucks. Plus a dozen Campells Mushroom Soup on sale for 8 bucks down from 16 bucks. All at Safeway (God Bless them when they have a sale, curse them for regular prices)
@TheXed Trust me I just ordered a 20 foot HDMI cable and 25 foot Ethernet cable from your country... it's easier plugging this stuff in than Wifi or Miracast or WiFi TV or whatever you call it.
Even that Chromecast thing is limited.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix I don't know I buy Ethernet cable 1000ft at a time...
so....that tells you what is inconvenient for me...

1:10 AM
@TheXed Somebody has to wire the ends.

@WinEunuuchs2Unix not if you do your own...
which is really easy...

Luckily I've only had to put ends on serial cabling back in 1986 never had to do that with Eithernet.
God Forbid it's fibre shivers

@WinEunuuchs2Unix fiber looks easy but I have never tried it... the equipment is mostly cost prohibitive...
Unless you do it a lot...

@TheXed Even pulling out an ohmmeter puts me into fugue state as I remember the red, blue, gold bands on resistors back in the 70's when I was a 12 year old kid shudders

I love resisters...they look like little candy pills that you probably shouldn't eat...

1:13 AM
Anyway the only wireless technology that works in my life is my cell phone and that's only because it has a location transmittor so the CIA can monitor my movements around town and call their agents to walk past me.

Actually Google does the monitoring...then gives it to the CIA

@luk3yx I looked at your answer and voted to close the original question as unclear what he was asking....maybe it was the beer :)
@TheXed Your mainstream media was denying my assertion there is a deep state in USA. They are saying "oh no deep state is only in Turkey and Egypt".
I'm going to just let the CIA continue the character assassination of Trump for a little while longer with their "leaks" to the mainstream media and then KAA-BOOOMMMM.
I worked out the end-game today.

we are praying that it happens sooner then later...with this guy...

what prayers to whom about what guy getting what?
Most techies are atheists in my experience.
Albert Einstein being the exception to the rule of course, but that was only shortly before his death.
But as I said before a definition of God doesn't exist. Therefore you can't pray to God whose definition doesn't exist. After a believable definition of God does exist then everyone believes in him then things like CIA and central bankers cease to exist. Which is why they invest so much in "dissing" God.

1:31 AM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix I am not one of them.

@NathanOsman ofc. Valerie Plame and Robert Wilson will be celebrating the closing of the CIA and like minded agencies. If they are so smart they can figure out awk and sed like the rest of us morons.
The deadwood can float in the ocean with the rest.

1:46 AM
UGH
fglrx blacklists radeon
and my second AMD card doesn't support fglrx
WHAT
MY CARD SUPPORTS AMDGPU PRO?????
wtf

Try kernel 4.9.something
can't remember which one sorry
but vast improvements for AMDGPU

well now I need to actually upgrade to 16.04...
christ
this is so stupid

You can run kernel 4.9 in Ubuntu 14.04 too.

I can't even install the driver in 14.04

unless the abi changed.
the driver is linked to the kernel version I think.

2:00 AM
how does one install 4.9

awww good question I wrote many answers on that
if only I could find it....haha j/k let me look.

shoot
how do I clear queued packages?

A: How to update kernel to the latest mainline version without any Distro-upgrade?

WinEunuuchs2UnixContrary to some answers here Ubuntu releases the new kernel within a day or two of the main kernel team. I used to upgrade the hard way like some of the answers here suggest and all of them on the internet suggest but I found and easier way. Finding the latest kernel Go to (kernel.ubuntu.com -...

what is a quequed package? is that an apt-get install thingy?

nvm
what are the default repos though? :p

I don't mind... but thanks for thinking about me :)

2:03 AM
@Zacharee1 main, security, updates, universe.

I mean the paths

wat

repros as in reproduction and default as in what you do to reproduce? I wouldn't know.

I cancelled the Xenial upgrade before it finished downloading
which means I don't have thew Trusty repos anymore

2:04 AM
click the "back" button?
magic wand unerase?

@Zacharee1 depends on your mirror

guessing is what got me into this current mess of a life-style :p
well at least I have the internet now :)

definitely

(from German) Thank you

domo
merci

2:07 AM
de nada.

no problem

oh they're in there already o_O
wat

I don't think that's the same as "thank you"

@Seth "of/from nothing" :p

gracious

2:07 AM
translate:de nada
(from Spanish) You are welcome

@Seth I know
but literally it means of or from nothing

oh. right

I think we have to lobby SE to be able to vote for mod of the year and I vote for @Seth.
I think "de nada" means "It's nothing" which is like we say in Canada "no problem" but Thank you is said as "gracious"

@WinEunuuchs2Unix that's what the implication is

@WinEunuuchs2Unix that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, but I don't think we need a mod of the year :)

2:10 AM
but it's not the literal meaning

I'm just a normal member of the community, just with a little fancy unicode in the name.

and tint

@Seth You'll be mod of the year if you consider merging this (with all the points): askubuntu.com/questions/892076/… into that (with 1000+ votes): askubuntu.com/questions/2793/…

you want to merge the two questions?

alright 4.9 installed
this had better not brick me

2:13 AM
Um noo... I want to take my Q&A with all the upvotes and merge it into the 2012 question with 1,000 plus votes.

yeah
1000+ votes? It only has like 500

I didn't realize it was a dup when I wrote my answer to my own question. Someone else reinvented the wheel 5 years ago.
The top rated answer has 498 voter but....
the question has 499 votes and the follow up answers probably have 200 votes.

either way, I was just heading out on a walk. Throw a flag on it and it will be processed by the next available flag handler. Thank you for calling your friendly neighborhood mod team.

ok spiderman, enjoy your walk and I hope you meet your wonderwoman.

;p

2:16 AM
A good man deserves a woman who pretends she is good for 80 years I think.
After that hopefully a man gets wise and learns it doesn't matter

nope I need 16.04

Were you talking to me or Seth?
Is it a war between intellectuals and teacher unions?
poof

2:57 AM
well kernel 4.9 gives me a login loop
4.8 boots and logs in, but with graphical glitches

8:36 AM
hi
i completely confused that why my server request take too much time for response
and when i change the server ip, it would be ok
you know i run a ruby on rails app on my server which send and receive json api from the server
the api sends by IOS,Android, AngularJS
and after a few days(2 or maybe 3 weeks) the server response time take too much time for response
but it is ok when i call the ruby on rails API's from the server
and server ping time is ok
but why it is like that
how can i solve it
we are on the test and deployment and don't publish it yet

Hello and good morning / afternoon / evening everybody ! :)

How can I do something similar to this:askubuntu.com/questions/198110/… using peco?
If possible at all that is.. :D

9:21 AM
@Zanna can u help me

sorry @AndroidDev I have no idea how to fix that issue

Hey @Zanna Good morning to you ! :) Everything fine ?

9:33 AM
morning @cl-netbox yes superfine :)
hope things are good with you... back in a bit...

@Zanna Great ! :) Glad to hear it ! :)
@Zanna not really ... started into the new week with -10 points ... guess what happened ? :D

9:44 AM
Hmm I think I broke everything...

@cl-netbox user removed? Deleted post?
@Thijser uh oh

Well at least most applications are now crashing on startup

@Zanna yes ... you and two other members deleted an old answer from me :D
@Thijser Good morning to you ! :) What have you done ?

(that's evil!)
@cl-netbox tried to install torch-cl

@cl-netbox not exactly, we deleted the question (I haven't directly delete-voted any of your answers)
heading out now, later all \o

9:50 AM
Bye @Zanna

@Zanna ah ... hmmm ... okay then ... :)

Ah looks like it was doing something weird with my graphics driver, gonna try rebooting
Ah that's better
Still randomly trowing errors though
And I think I still need this packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/amd64/libpng12-dev/download package, but it won't install

@Thijser what kind of errors ?

torch-cl errors
build failed
Warning: unmatched variable LUALIB
cmake -E make_directory build && cd build && cmake .. -DLUALIB= -DCMAKE_CXX_FLAGS=${CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS} -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release -DCMAKE_PREFIX_PATH="/home/thijs/torch-cl/install/bin/.." -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX="/home/thijs/torch-cl/install/lib/luarocks/rocks/cutorch/scm-1" && make -j$(getconf _NPROCESSORS_ONLN) install

But it needs that package which is from ubuntu 16.10

cl@cl-uw-1:~$ apt policy torch-cl
N: Unable to locate package torch-cl

@Thijser hmmm ... can apt install -f solve it ? are you on ubuntu 16.04 or 16.10 ?

doubt it, I need to install a package from a previous version of ubuntu (libpgn12.0-dev from ubuntu 16.04)
I'm on 16.10

@Thijser won't work ... breaks things

aww but without it the code doesn't work

@cl-netbox if you think the question should not have been deleted, you can flag it or ask other people to look at it so they can tell me I was wrong

9:58 AM
@Thijser that's the problem when you try to install from github ... can't you use the 16.10 version of libpgn12.0-dev ?

Is there a 16.10 version?
I can only find a 16.0 version

@Zanna no ... too much trouble for me ... it's the same as usually ... and I don't want a new VTC discussion :)
