9:00 PM
@edwinksl cooool!!!!

:D

very cool

user136984
Goodnight! :)

@edwinksl i like how at the end the guy says " back to reality !" Lol, real time graphics is already reality !

@Serg lol yeah i wasn't sure why he would make that remark

9:15 PM
tfw when your ISP blocks things

sigh . . . . MATE . . . .Why on bloody earth, you cannot scale down icons just like unity does ?

what gives them the right to decide where I go on the internet?!

@KazWolfe change DNS or use tor
MATE , dafuq is that ^

@Serg it's IP blocking. And well, tor is blocked lol (except for "standard port" bridges and whatnot)
They block ports and protocols mostly.

better but still pretty huge

9:21 PM
lol that K
@L.D.James YOU ARE HERE — lyly 8 hours ago
xD

Am I the only one using a Torrent client on 3G?

9:37 PM
am I the only one not using any torrent clients ?

9:48 PM
@edwinksl smh

Who's on Unity ?
Some folks say with the recent update , they get aport error in my indicator
Need testers for this

10:07 PM
good evening!

\o hellow, good fellow

how you're doing man?
working on the launcher-list?

Yeah, and updated couple other ones
Later tonight will study some perl and C , but C for Linux kernel. I got a book from the library for that

cool! What is the book title?

"The Linux Kernel Book" ,by Remy Card ,Eric Dumas, and Frank Mevel
It's a bit old, it talks about 2.3 or 2.6 kernel , but it's basic info - so that's important

10:19 PM
I think after you understand the kernel 2.6 it will be really easier to understand the recent ones
the really raw core probably didn't change that much

Yup, that's exactly what i thought
@IanC actually, can you test out the launcher-list-indicator ? I had someone report they have an apport error. I can't reproduce it on my side though

sure, can you link me the download page again?

https://github.com/SergKolo/launcher-list-indicator
Do you have git ?
You can just git clone it

I don't, that's probably something I should learn how to use lol

It's pretty handy tool for source code control. I love it

10:29 PM
I heard about it (tons of times) and have a superficial idea of how it works
something about making it easier to do and undo changes on your projects source code
branches and stuff haha
but I never got into really using it to know how it works
I'll install it here and do the git clone thing

Let me know if you want a tutorial for it - i had a link to it somewhere

sure, but I don't have many programming projects (I don't have any would be more precise!) so far
guess it would be better to learn it when it's more useful for me, or I'll just forget how it works in a month :p
I cloned your launcher-list-indicator
./launcher-list-indicator?
ok, it's working!
@Serg anything you want me to do to try to reproduce the apport error? so far it's working fine! :D
only a Gtk warning message
"Gtk-Message: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged."

@IanC em . . . the guy on omgubuntu said he had apport error . . .I don't know what's his problem. As for Gtk-message , it's totally alright, not important

well, so far no error, let me try all extras
Toggle Visibility doesn't do anything, Toggle label is working fine, clear launcher and change icon also working fine

10:45 PM
Toggle Visibility should hide launcher . . . works alright on my side . . .
hmmm , can you try that option again please ?
are you on 16.04 ?

yes

well that's very odd

yeah, Toggle visibility isn't working here, also, I just noticed the change icon pops up the GTK dialog but doesn't change the icon
tried picking the monochrome one and it's still colored

O.o
this is super strange

let me check the python version

10:51 PM
@IanC run dconf watch / , and then try toggling launcher

2.7.12

@IanC if you run it as ./launcher-list-indicator will use python3 automatically.

/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/unityshell/launcher-hide-mode
0

/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/unityshell/launcher-hide-mode
1
when toggling twice the visibility that's the output of dconf watch / @Serg

yeah, that's working. . . . but your launcher is not hiding ?

no, it's still showing

10:56 PM
@IanC ok,you might want to submit a bug report for Unity
does it work from system settings ?

what do you mean? trying to hide it from the system settings menu?

@IanC that ^

let me try
works on system settings, actually turning it on just hides the launcher
(I thought it was supposed to hide it but show it if I placed the cursor over the left side of screen)

Happy birthday @luis-alvarado !!!! Have a great day man and eat a lot of cake :)
10

@IanC yeah, it reveals launcher if you hover mouse over it. So it is working, but for some odd reason it doesn't. I mean, my indicator does exactly the same thing

11:04 PM
it doesn't show when you hover the mouse there too?

a starz to that won't heart though :D
@Serg how are you doing ?

@Lucio I'm alright, how are you ? Do you have Unity ?

great, doing well
yes i do

@Lucio can you help me testing my indicator please ? Something seems to be not working properly

sure, where shall i start

11:07 PM
@Lucio do you have git ?

yep

@Lucio ok, clone this
Run ./launcher-list-indicator , and let me know if Extras->Toggle Visibility works
It should hide Unity Launcher

hey yall

hey!

where Extras would be?
oh

11:10 PM
How is everything ?

@Lucio its in the indicator menu itself

works great

@Lamar hi there

how is everyone's day going?

@IanC yeah, something is odd with the launcher on your side I think, cuz it works for Lucio

11:11 PM
16.04 if anything
sorry, 15.10
wrong computer lol
that's cool Serg!
@Lamar is going fantastic! Look, it is a mod b-day \o/

not sure what it is @Serg, but appart from the visibility and icon everything else is working great!

lol
happy b-day

what about you?

@IanC what about if you do it in command line ?
gsettings set org.compiz.unityshell:/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/unityshell/ launcher-hide-mode 1

my day is alright thanks for asking

11:17 PM
Like that , one big line

without the launcher-list running?

great Lamar :)

@IanC doesn't matter, it can keep runnig

without it running I tried this command and it didn't hide the launcher
so it's not an issue with your code, probably something is wrong on my unity?

Yup, something is wrong with Unity on your side
That's why i said you might wanna file a bug report

11:20 PM
i'm off to play guitar..
have a nice week end everyone! go out and have fun :)
see ya

@Lucio alright, thanks for helping out man. I appreciate

whenever you need ;)

see you @Lucio, have a nice weekend

nice and enjoy

o/

11:27 PM
lately, when my X-server bugs (after locking screen and coming back for example, sometimes the GUI shows messed up, invisible icons, etc..) I run sudo service lightdm restart. But it basically closes everything and go back to the login menu. Probably all the applications are children of lightdm? Is there something else I could do? Like maybe restarting unity only or something?

@IanC well basically you could logout and log back in. Also you could do "unity --replace" , but because you are running as normal user - you won't see some indicators show up.
Login in and logging out is better

well, that would have the same effect as restarting lightdm right?

yes, pretty much. I think, however, logout option does some clean up. But not 100% sure

I wondered if maybe there was a way to restart the X-server with some saved state, not closing applications, but I think that can't be done

@Lucio o/

11:39 PM
man, waves today were cool
not really big, but big enough for some quick drops, sometimes it felt like I was falling vertically, really cool
only thing is holding me behind is that I think I'm getting tired too fast :/

@IanC no, can't be done because for GUI apps to run, X server has to run too. Stop the X server and apps stop too

yeah, I imagined because they are children processes right? killing X would kill them too

yup
