6:02 PM
very interesting, same thing with MATE VM

Does that mean you just discovered a two years old bug?

No, that means routing for virtual machines is different that for real machines

@ByteCommander no.
:+)

6:31 PM
Not sure, but this answer looks not like what the question is asking for askubuntu.com/a/808103/367990

7:06 PM
Rising up, back on the street... https://t.co/zwxv6VVj3B

7:16 PM
OK , i think i got increase in scroll figured out. Next one is a bit more difficult - need to figure out decrease in scroll

Huh?
Shouldn't that work the same way?

@Serg put a - in front of the number >:-D

@ByteCommander the problem with scrolling via wheel is that xinput works OK for decreasing speed , but it doesn't speed up things. imwheel program can increase speed, but doesn't decrease it. My script will use both together to control mouse scroll. Pity , but X11 has been broken like this for ages and nobody did anything to fix it up, and we need this stupidity to make it work , but . . . . I guess somebody has to do it , right ?
Besides, it's another python adventure for me :D

7:34 PM
BOO!

@Serg and his adventurous journey through the Unity canyon, the dbus jungle and up to the top of X11 mountain, only accompanied by a Python and his good old friend Bash
You could make a movie out of that.

@Rinzwind scared the bejesus out of me

@ByteCommander I doubt anybody else except my fellow AskUbuntu geeks would watch it . And JacobVlijm would critique every bit of it :p
$ python dynamic_mouse_speed.py  -q -s -2 -v
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  Major opcode of failed request: 131 (XInputExtension)
  Minor opcode of failed request: 57 ()
  Serial number of failed request: 20
  Current serial number in output stream: 21
sigh . . . X11 , you are the source of my joy and misery at the same time

hi
ahh man...I need to plug in...
not bad though...been on battery since 7:45 am...
and still have 51 mins left...

daym, that's some nice battery life

7:47 PM
Yup, Chromebooks are pretty amazing..

@TheXed Oh, you're using chromebook ? Nice ! For being cheap , they're pretty sturdy. I loved Acer C720

Yeah it is my work computer...
and sense I am at work.
There is nothing worse then sitting in one room for 12 hours...

I think i got my script twerkin'

can't stop won't stop?

Now I can either improve my debugging info , or i could just post it

8:01 PM
post it
then improve
then repost

@Zacharee1 NEVAR!!! we shall neva stop breaking things with python and bash and all the other thingies
@Zacharee1 actually that's agile philosophy - release as often as possible ,and communicate with customers a lot
Speaking of which, I need to communicate with @Codex that the script is ready , just need some minor improvements before i post it

Iron Maiden is currently playing live at the Wacken festival.
Here's the official livestream: static-cdn.arte.tv/static/wacken2016/de.html
( ^ CC @ParanoidPanda and all other Iron Maiden fans )

8:18 PM
Yeah, now they play The Trooper! \m/
@Serg Interested in watching Iron Maiden livestream from Wacken festival?

@ByteCommander yeah, once i post my 200 line script and edit the answer

@TheXed that CPU won't overheat like ever . . . unless the fridge dies or power goes out

@Serg check it out, you might be surprised...

8:22 PM
Whoa, it's raining cats and dogs in Wacken.
Those poor guys out there...

I'll need to fix up the function that prints the imwheelrc file and some commets, and we can release

Most professional people probably are gonna think I'm stupid for writing such complicated script

@Serg we prefer crazy...

yeah, sounds about right

8:25 PM
my USB ports suddenly stopped working

@Seth did you accidentally touch any ? that would happen a lot with my usb wifi dongle , and the only solution was to restart
I wonder what would my python professor say when he saw some of those python indicators and scripts i wrote.

@Serg did you breath on it?
@Seth I mean

@TheXed no, ram it with my giant fingers
One more, come on !!! Imma get that badge !!!

8:41 PM
This is hilarious: askubuntu.com/q/808221/367990
Question:
> [...]
I have seen similar question . I tried all the possible solutions , but none of them works .

@Seth can you talk to Pilot6 maybe? He's going after all my AMD answers and downvoting them, saying they're wrong. When I give my argument defending why they're right, he ignores me and comments and downvotes the next answer

Comments below:
I know that , But i mention i tried all the possible solutions . But nothing works . I have already seen the Duplicate of my question ,. — CodeHead 27 mins ago
Well, "all the possible solutions" means exactly nothing as you don't list what exactly you tried. Therefore I translate this to "I tried nothing yet but want my question to look better". If I would take that phrase seriously, how should anybody be able to help you if you already tried everything possible? — Byte Commander 25 mins ago
Actually i meant to say all the possible solutions out in the internet . — CodeHead 8 mins ago
facepalm - Sorry, but "all possible solutions on the internet" is equally undefined and meaningless as your previous wording. The internet is huge and I strongly doubt you visited every single website that exists and tried every single possibly related approach. However, if you had done that, why would you think that we can add anything to what you already say you tried? — Byte Commander 2 mins ago
I soooo want to close this question as "not solvable, because OP already tried every possible solution on the internet. Every single one. Really."

i think OP doesn't understand we can't read his mind and know what he has tried. it is still rather vague as to what he really tried

the thread goes on...
New problems arise everyday and new answers to those problems . I may have said that wrong . Maybe someone facing the problem and he/she fixed the problem in a different approach . Don't know why you are making it such a big deal ? I may have said something silly . You can ignore that part and help me if you can . — CodeHead 6 mins ago
And still "I tried everything" is a meaningless sentence, because we need to know what exactly you tried. You surely found other results if you researched the issue than everyone of us. I'm just saying that you must always describe stuff relevant to your question as detailed and explicit as possible, we can't read minds here yet. — Byte Commander 51 secs ago

@Zacharee1 pilot6 seems pretty angry huh

he's always arguing with me
idk why

@Codex the script has been edited, answer edited as well. It now includes increase and decrease scroll speed control. Please review

Now playing Fear Of The Dark in the live stream \m/ `(^_^)´ \m/
Awesome!

now he's saying the problem with my answer is the question is not about performance, and that it's about how fglrx is not properly installed. THIS IS 16.04

@Zacharee1 Pilot6 is very stubborn and does argue a lot. I feel you

8:58 PM
I can't understand it
he seems to not know what he's talking about, yet he seems to think I don't either
which, not to be conceited or anything, I do
I've done too much research on this

come on, come on. I am about to get them badges . . . communitah, come on

even an intel gpu pleb like me knows fglrx doesn't work in 16.04 xD

Can some mod help me here? Delete the comments, idk idc?
I need those impartial mods, like Thomas or terdon or Oli (totally not an edit)
or Video :p

Oli
OH HAI! D:<

HAI
PLS HALP

9:00 PM
Welcome back Oli

woah mod in town guise

i like your edit Zach

but it's not
not one at all

Oli
But what needs doing?

Check my AMD answers and Pilot's comments on them
and our "discussion"
it's almost like he's seeking them out to downvote or something

Oli
9:01 PM
He said "link?"

A: Ubuntu 16.04 display UNCLAIMED

Zacharee1AMD graphics usually don't have very good performance (at least not compared to what they were like on 15.10 and earlier) on 16.04. If you experience difficulties, there isn't very much you can do about it. This is because the proprietary drivers (fglrx) are not compatible with 16.04 or later. Y...

@Zacharee1 you are not thick-skinned enough to just walk away from an argument :P

idk

@ParanoidPanda Seen my Iron Maiden live stream link above?
They're currently playing at Wacken Open Air.

user136984
@ByteCommander: Cool! I'll have a look in a moment! :)

9:08 PM
They're only playing about 20 more minutes though.
But you can delay the live stream by 30 minutes, so 50 minutes of Iron Maiden to watch for you.
Would be nice if a moderator could clean up most comments here (basically all that are just about him telling he tried everything and me telling that this phrase is useless) askubuntu.com/q/808221/367990
@ParanoidPanda Now playing the Number of the Beast!
What is "Experience level 4/10" supposed to mean? askubuntu.com/questions/808232/…

It's about whether the Ubuntu font may be used as part of a registered trademark... Probably they want to use the font in their logo.

I don't think we're the legal department

yeah, this doesn't really relate to OS

9:25 PM
We're not going to get the latest Firefox version this week are we? :(

@ParanoidPanda you'll ever have it buhahaha

@ParanoidPanda As I said, I'm on 49 and I like it so far...
Iron Maiden concert will be about 8 more minutes only.

So, question : looking at my python code, how likely am i to get hired ?

Sorry, I can't rate that...

user136984
@Serg: One is always as likely as one is unlikely, but also unlikely as one is likely.

9:32 PM
@Serg √-1

user136984
Hope that confused you! ;P

@ParanoidPanda whatyousaid = 0

Iron Maiden concert is over. They're now throwing their drum sticks, plectrums etc. into the audience...

user136984
@ByteCommander: Do people get to keep them?

@Zacharee1 A wild Ubutnu, the butt of a GNU:

9:34 PM
yay

Aww snap, it got edited.

@edwinksl wai

sudo snap unedit

@ParanoidPanda sure, I think so. Why not?

user136984
@ByteCommander: Maybe you should link to the revision history then.

Q: Add status info to systemd's status output

flickerflyI'm writing a a systemd v229 script for a backup software client called Retrospect. This software doesn't follow any kind of typical linux ways of doing things. Getting a status from the program means running retrocpl -status. This has information that is both important and not currently gathered...

@Serg we answer people who don't Google, even when they should have

@Zacharee1 that is my life story at work.

lol

Now Iron Maiden is gone and "Therapy?" plays... Never heard of that band.
> Therapy? is an alternative metal band from Northern Ireland. The band was formed in 1989 by guitarist–vocalist Andy Cairns from Ballyclare and drummer-vocalist Fyfe Ewing from Larne, Northern Ireland. The band initially recorded their first demo with Cairns filling in on bass guitar. To complete the lineup, the band recruited Larne bassist Michael McKeegan.[1]

With keen pop sensibilities, a skewed sense of humour and a willingness to draw inspiration from diverse sources (notably punk rock), Therapy? came to attention in the early 1990s rise of alternative rock, but have endured for two

Hey, 1.4 million people reached ! If I push a little more, I can overcome Jacob with his 1.6 million

@ByteCommander noob! Theraphy is cool

9:44 PM
@Serg dupe

Can you boot 16.04 with a 3.13 kernel and upstart? That sounds strange.

y do people keep missing the 0 askubuntu.com/questions/807952/…

@Rinzwind Are they? I don't know them yet. They're currently playing live at Wacken Open Air, here's the live stream on ARTE CONCERT static-cdn.arte.tv/static/wacken2016/de.html

In addition, that question doesn't belong on our site. We're not English SE

@ByteCommander they are good :D
probably best song ^^
drums are very good in this one

9:59 PM
@Serg Thank you very much

user136984
Well, goodnight folks! :)

@ParanoidPanda HEY 1st listen to the song :+)

@CodeX you're very welcome, feel free to ask me for scripts any time

@Rinzwind Yeah, seems like they rock! :D

10:26 PM
@Zacharee1 so, are you interested in any indicators ? I'm taking requests :)

not indicators

mkay, just that plugin script
Anybody wants a virtual box indicator ?

Q: Run mplayer using x11 from text console?

KyleI want to be able to play quality video from a text console. I have two options set up, neither of which is ideal: I have mplayer set up to use the -vo fbdev2 option, which I understand to directly use a frame buffer provided by linux. This works, but it is not the best quality. I have a script...

@Serg Nope, I use KVM and virt-manager which already has an indicator.
But there are a few recent unanswered questions from me.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

10:30 PM
They involve launchers though, not indicators.
@KazWolfe o?

@NathanOsman Anybody wants a virtual box indicator ?
@ByteCommander for example ?

Q: virt-manager launcher action to directly start and open a specific VM

Byte CommanderI use virt-manager for my Qemu/KVM virtual machines. Booting a VM currently means launching virt-manager, selecting a VM to open it in the VM viewer and then finally turning the VM on. Q: Scale volume and/or screen brightness with a logarithmic scale

Byte CommanderI own an Acer Aspire E5-773G notebook running Ubuntu 16.04 with Unity Desktop. In fact, the huge majority of my questions is unanswered: askubuntu.com/users/367990/byte-commander?tab=questions
(oh, and in case you consider to vote on any of them, please wait 1.5 more hours as I'm full today already)

My script for moving windows to another display is so handy , I love using it ^_^
@ByteCommander OK , I will look into them. I think rhythmbox one should be easy

I thought so too... initially.

@ByteCommander can you give me a URI of any radio station ?

10:41 PM
@Serg Sure. Here is "Rockhausradio" 91.250.77.9:8220

10:58 PM
@Serg someone who spells "below" as "bellow" like you askubuntu.com/questions/808275/…

+1 , immediately

@edwinksl just wanted to tell the same.
That's engineer's speak, I suppose :)

:D

below and bellow are two different words...

I like to bellow out from below...

11:02 PM
@Seth spelling isn't the strongest of my qualities and it's a constant problem , and yes - i know they're different , but i type it out automatically for no good reason other than muscle memory

@Serg its okay I don't know the difference between syntex and syntax appearntly...

Oli disappeared after I gave him that link

As long as we can spell Ubuntu properly , all good in the hood

And I constantly try to write occasionally with double s.

@Serg oobantha

11:06 PM
@Serg You mean Ubantu?

yeah , because occasionally has "zh" sound inside of it , which can easily be misinterpreted as double s @ByteCommander
@TheXed @Zacharee1 don't make fun of my Ubunut !

@Zacharee1 can you teach me how to Linux ? plz, puppy eyes engaged :D

lol
If someone puts plz, pls or any variation thereof in their question, I instantly navigate away

Doesn't bother me that much,as long as most of the question is comprehensible
but yeah, we're sort of public website, official . . . gotta make your question look presentable yo !

11:13 PM
U-Bun-too

My python don't want none unless you got oo-BUN-too , hon

Oli
@Zacharee1 You were still exchanging comments in a technical discussion. It'd have been rude to interrupt.

@Oli but it's been an hour at least, mr sarcasm

Oli
Mr Sarcasm had other things to do than sit around waiting for one of you to die. It looked like you were making progress so I left you to it.

Can't make progress unless he responds, which he never does

11:18 PM
@Zacharee1 he sounds like me on facebook.
@Zacharee1 I like to leave my friends and family wondering...

lol

Oli
@Zacharee1 Timezones are an issue there.

@Oli he didn't respond to my comment on the older convo, but instead went onto DV and comment on another answer
to me, it looks like he's avoiding any possible contradiction to his view
but idk

11:32 PM
@ByteCommander You have my sympathies. My own Q&As are ignored sometimes, worked hard on this one with no response: askubuntu.com/q/801069/57576
But I suck at asking questions :(
And midi is an area of small interest to many....

Hola.
@andrew.46 we have a MIDI keyboard. So I use it on occasion.

Just so everyone knows, I always have strips of bacon on Windows 10 Mobile...

Mmmmh. Bacon.
@Serg what would I use a VirtualBox indicator for?

@NathanOsman launching VMs and . . . stuff ? ( i'm just looking for requests to code something , i know - it's a bit redundant indicator , but so far the best idea i haz )

has anyone tried to new skype for Linux?

11:41 PM
@Serg I mean... I'd absolutely try it out, but I'm not sure it would be all that useful.
But don't let me talk you out of it.

well . . . give me a suggestion , what would be useful ? @NathanOsman I mean , anything goes, i am open to suggestions
@TheXed installed it in VM , launches ok , can make calls ( though can't expose my mike and webcam to the VM ) . No dependency issues nothing like that , slick and clean

@Serg You mean your mic? :-P

Don't want to make that shortcutting script, eh @Serg?

@Serg Just saying because Mike probably doesn't want to be exposed to your VM, or anything else for that matter :-P

@Zacharee1 the one for plugins ? It's on my TODO list , i'm just picking up extra things to do.

11:44 PM
kk

Let me think...

make it as hard for yourself as possible, got it :p

Time to leave I tink...
Talk to you later.

@TheXed well, I don't care if Mike likes it or not, Imma expose my VM to it if I can !!!
and gonna swing it left and right . . . . side of the screen

Hey, @Serg, maybe you could rewrite or even recreate StackApplet? It's just an appindicator that lights up when you get stuff in your Stack Exchange inbox.
I've basically abandoned it.
And the original code probably isn't work saving.
I can point you to some Python libraries for authenticating with the Stack Exchange API.
(I may or may not have written one of them :D)

11:47 PM
I could look into it, 'fcourse. Is there a github repo for it ?

I think it stayed on Launchpad. launchpad.net/stackapplet
Although, like I said, I'm embarrassed by the code and you'd probably have less frustration writing it from scratch :P

@NathanOsman so i just download deb file, and extract it ?

It's in the archives.
You can just do:
sudo apt-get install stackapplet

aaaah,nifty

I hope it still works...

11:53 PM
False alarm.

@NathanOsman I don't think it does. Adding a new account doesn't seem to do anything other than overlay the page with some lines 'n stuff

Back to work.

@RPiAwesomeness Hence why it needs rewriting I guess.

I would say I would do it, but I have far too many things going on to even sneeze in that direction

@NathanOsman Good to hear. For me it is just the sound: reminds me strongly of old games I used to play

11:59 PM
Do you think I will ever get a day off?

@RPiAwesomeness Me too or I would do it :D
