It's the Z1s from T-Mobile. I hardly use it now, though. Just as a backup if my Nexus breaks again :p

user139252
Got my 6p fixed finally, back on that and loving it

@TheBrownOne How's the fingerprint reader?
Is it a good placement?
Works well?
T-Mobile is available in California? :p

user139252
T-Mobile coverage is great in my area, on par with Verizon. The placement is fine, but I don't get to use it for much more than unlocking my phone because nobody here takes Android pay

That's all I use it on my Note 4 -- unlocking
East Coast is getting the NFC stuff, but still slowly: malls only so far I think

@Zacharee1 I was out and people left me a message...

user139252
12:08 AM
Speaking of malls....

you did it again :p

@NathanOsman Credit card: you never pay the deposit: it just gets reserved on your credit card...
@Zacharee1 No laughing matter! :P
;-)

user139252
My roommate bought a dress and it didn't fit her right so she gave it to me

@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW The amount can't be reserved if it's higher than your credit limit.

@Zacharee1 Yes: a server's hard drive of which the tape is lost?

user139252
12:09 AM
I couldn't wear it without buying new boots that matched it

Expect to pay between 1000-10000$ for the service per hard drive.

user139252
So I drove down to our big mall today

@NathanOsman O_o

user139252
I spent 9 hours down there, spent $350 on clothes and food and shoes, and still didn't get the right boots

lol

user139252
12:11 AM
Lesson for you all to learn?

user139252
Don't buy women clothes without asking :p

@TheBrownOne Picture! ;-)
(in-line off course! :p)

@TheBrownOne Noted.

@TheBrownOne :D Excuses!

user139252
@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW maybe later, about to head to the gym :p

12:12 AM
@TheBrownOne :D :D :D
@TheBrownOne Unless it's underwear!
Any woman can always use more underwear!

@NathanOsman That's a surprise to you??? You've got to learn a lot about women then!

@dn-ʞɔɐqɹW No, it's not a surprise. I just... that's about as far off-topic as this room has gotten in quite some time.
5

I've bought tons of underwear as a BD present: never had any complaints (from the women; sometimes bad looks from the boy friends/husbands)
@NathanOsman Starred!

lol\

12:18 AM
You do realize that I'm as crazy as the rest of the weirdos here in chat room put together, right? ;-)

crazier

@Zacharee1 Apparently you haven't talked to some of them...

crazier

12:42 AM
Time for a shutdown!
Good night all!

One more upvote here: askubuntu.com/a/602058/274320
and @dn-ʞɔɐqɹW will no longer be the only one with the Reversal badge :p

This essay came a lot more easily than I thought it would O_o
I just wrote a page of actual good content in like 15 mins

I hate it when I take the time to write a good, extensive answer, and two people answer it before me without detail

Q: Remove GRUB and keep a linux system

MagixI searched the internet for instructions on how to remove GRUB, but the only thing I could find is using windows DVD to "repair" the system. The thing is I previously had a Win/linux doal-boot and removed Windows (GParted + boot-repair) but GRUB is still installed with only one entry: the linux o...

Is the Superbowl over?
@Serg Broncos winning 13-7 nice
Ah half-time

@Zacharee1 it's time to raise your standards (re: your essay) :D

you watching the game Nathan?

@Chan-HoSuh Well, it's a persuasive essay-speech thing, and the "facts" are just what we make up, so it's not hard.

@Zacharee1 that's an interesting perspective on persuasion :)

1:38 AM
well that was disappointing.
I was like "ooh, coldplay, this might just be good!" and then he gets like 5 minutes -.-

@Chan-HoSuh Our teacher's justification is that it's an exercise in persuasion, not in research
@Seth lol

@Seth Nope. Keeping an eye on the score though.

@Seth Isn't it Lady Gaga?

@Zacharee1 idk, either that or beyonce.
neither of which I care one whit about.
@NathanOsman ah. I just got back from a walk.

@Seth You've insulted the whole US and UK teenage body as a whole by dissing Beyoncé :p

1:45 AM
@Zacharee1 I don't really care. However, I know quite a few teenagers that wouldn't care at all right along with me.

lol
took me a minute to realize that was satire.

I love The Onion
@Seth lol nice

LOL.

2:01 AM
@Zacharee1 that's.. only partially true.
That FG attempt though!

FG?

Does anyone else have need for a domain and website? I'm done with freebies but will offer hosting for life on the cheap.

I believe my need is fulfilled, but thanks :D
Is it possible to DNS to DNS?

user139252
I know you don't, you took a freebie :p

user139252
What do you mean?

Like have a URL point to multiple pages on a subdomain, show those pages as .tk/.html, but still keep the mask address?
So:
2.techyteen.tk/something, 2.techyteen.tk/else also work at tt.tk/something and tt.tk/else?
Or techyteen.tk/something and techyteen.tk/else as tt.tk/something and tt.tk/else

user139252
I would have to be creative with the apache configs and SSL certs, but yes

2:24 AM
Oh wait
I know how to do that, but not without a host for the second domain
I wonder if there is a way
I know there's the complete masking, but that's just an iframe I think, and the domain name doesn't change
Let's see
the .ml domain costs $1000 O_o
@TheBrownOne have you noticed that Freenom give you the option to register your domain for 12 months for free or 1 year for $9.95?

user139252
I can just add a ServerAlias directive

So the main page points to a subpage in the other domain?
I don't actually want to do this BTW
I was just curious if there's a way to do this without another host
Site's finally on CloudFlare
hmm
@TheBrownOne how'd you fix the SSL error thing?
@TheBrownOne Did you have to disable Let'sEncrypt SSL?
Or did you turn off CloudFlare's?

2:40 AM
@Seth "I've never heard of Cold Pack or whatever her name is."

>.>

@NathanOsman -_-
Cold Play is a band

Beyoncé is the singer

@Zacharee1 It's Coldplay

2:41 AM
I know - I was just misquoting someone on Twitter.

@Seth yes
@NathanOsman ಠ_ಠ

note the lack of a space.

@Seth I know! I just typed it out quickly
Your sarcasm displeases me :p

I like that @coldplay brought in those two football teams to open up for their show tonight! #SB50 #PepsiHalftime #SuperBowl

@NathanOsman lol
@TheBrownOne pls

2:55 AM
So I printed out the essay: it was one page. I unplugged the printer from my computer, walked back to my room, realized I needed to print out another copy
Went back to the printer, plugged it in, printed it
it printed as two pages O_o
nothing changed, but Word decided that two lines should move to a second page
I hate MS Office

Obviously the problem is word.

Nooooo kidding
@TheBrownOne nvm, just had to wait :p
@TheBrownOne For the people you host: are you going to set up CloudFlare for them?

it's a problem with WYSIWIG in general, because often what happens is what the human user can actually see is not everything the software does

Something about that suggestion seems dangerous: askubuntu.com/questions/731039/…
@Chan-HoSuh erm

LaTeX FTW.

3:02 AM
lol
@NathanOsman TeX - LaTeX
nope

@NathanOsman yep
it was something of an eye-opener for me to see how prevalent badly-formatted documents are in industry

@Chan-HoSuh Well, Word showed after I printed that it was on 2 pages ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@Chan-HoSuh I cringe every time I see someone using tabs for layout.

user139252
3:20 AM
Sorry, was watching a show @Zacharee1. I never fully set up CloudFlare. I will set it up for other people I host, though

Well folks. The Broncos won.
@Serg I bet you're pretty happy about that :D

@NathanOsman I totally called that :D

So no answer for my query Nathan? :(
@NathanOsman you might want to subscribe to the tag :P

@Seth Which one?

15 mins ago, by Seth
What else would you use?

Server side validation.

3:54 AM
I was afraid that was the answer D:

You don't trust the user's browser to filter data.

I mean I guess you should always use server side.. but only in case all else fails.

You should always validate data on the server.
I question the value of validating client-side, to be honest.

Denver takes the Super Bowl ! Yaaaaay!

@NathanOsman so I don't have to submit the form to see I did something wrong?

3:55 AM
The most important rule of writing web applications: "Never trust user input."
7

definitely

In general, never trust the user

@Seth If you have the time to write client-side validation, go for it. HTML 5 makes that a bit easier. But never at the expense of server-side validation.

@NathanOsman right, ok. Thanks!

For languages other than Node.js, this usually means duplicating validation logic.

3:56 AM
I obviously did not spend enough time thinking that through lol. Now that you mention it it seems obvious..

Perl does something really interesting with the concept of "tainting".
It'll throw an error if you try to use user input without processing it in some way first.

ooh, that's actually neat.
although it sounds expensive.

> "You may not use data derived from outside your program to affect something else outside your program--at least, not by accident. All command line arguments, environment variables, locale information (see perllocale), results of certain system calls (readdir(), readlink(), the variable of shmread(), the messages returned by msgrcv(), the password, gcos and shell fields returned by the getpwxxx() calls), and all file input are marked as "tainted"."
Yay for time travel \o/

@Seth The link doesn't work yet and 16.04 hasn't been released yet either. But both of those issues will resolve themselves in due time.

Yeah, gonna sit in there for 15 before heading home next time

Yesterday my father was blasting music , so I got fed up , and went to the gym near us . . . It's always good to have a place where you can go, shower, soak in those hot tubs, then hop into cold water, back into steam room, back out in cold water, and cycle through it

@AbhishekBhatia does your app rely on upstart init system in any way ?

7:05 AM
@Serg some kernel api has probably changed. i suspect it will be broken.

@hbdgaf yeah that may be a big issue . . .

for the record, that's why i'm not touching this one. if you have to patch around to get vmnet working for vmware, some odd wireless thing that worked once on 9.x isn't something i want to start sinking time into

8:05 AM
@Serg I don't have any idea abt that. I ran an strace on it. Output: pastebin.com/vsF1xwGt . The extracted .tar.gz looks like this: dropbox.com/sh/7peuc1e28xitsfn/AACgQ1qxjtvYw4h_JlRiIx32a?dl=0
I wish to know the poll mechanism, so I can write a simple app in python and send data to the particular port to initialise and then read from it.
My lack of knowledge in linux drivers limits me from the scrutiny to get the details out.

@NathanOsman Cool, which languages is in it? any github repos link if possible.
@Serg is init system something that has changed over the versions. I can't find it in strace output though.

8:23 AM
@AbhishekBhatia it's written in Go. I'll get you a link.
One sec...

@NathanOsman I wouldn't mind spinning up an instance to mess with, but zat documentation or lack of it ._.

isn't the word "tap" and not "tab"? (English is not my first language, so I might be wrong)

^ was just about to say the same. Yes, it's "tap".
A tap (also spigot or faucet: see usage variations) is a valve controlling the release of a liquid or gas. == NomenclatureEdit == === British IslesEdit === Tap is used in the British Isles and most of the Commonwealth for any everyday type of valve, particularly the fittings that control water supply to bathtubs and sinks. === USEdit === Faucet is the most common term in the US, similar in use to "tap" in British English. Spigot is used by professionals in the trade (such as plumbers), and typically refers to an outdoor fixture. Silcock (and sillcock), same as "spigot", referring to a...

Q: Ubuntu Snappy for a development machine

ventsyvSo Ubuntu Snappy core is supposed to be super lightweight. I was thinking to put that on a server, ssh to it and use it to write code. Would that work? Does it come with desktop environment? Can I install regular old packages via apt-get or am I limited to docker apps?

@Seth ^^ is that on topic here? I'm thinking of migrating but I have no idea if this new snappy core thing would be welcome.

Is it off-topic on U&L?

it's cool here

4:30 PM
@Seth Not as such, it's just better suited for AU since it's such an Ubuntu-centric Q.

desktop environment - no, work on a server - yes, apt-get - no, limited to docker - no

@Seth you might want to add snappy core and Ubuntu touch to the on topic page.

@terdon bleh, are they not there?

they have Ubuntu in the name and started by canonical

@Seth Nope, just checked.

@Mateo I have no idea
it doesn't make any real sense.

kos

@edwardtorvalds Me neither, I just meant that I would have wanted to quote my previous message to address your second question but that I resisted to do so.

is this good way to add forward slash?
mv "$path/$file" "anything" ?

wubi is the only thing I can think of - probably ran with a virtual CD
program that mounts iso's

kos
@edwardtorvalds Yes, why not?
