Mmmh... so he has a config file now then??? because:
@GeorgetheDev what is my favourite restart?

In localStorage.

Karl Marx (/mɑrks/; German pronunciation: [ˈkaɐ̯l ˈmaɐ̯ks]; 5 May 1818 – 14 March 1883) was a philosopher, economist, sociologist, journalist, and revolutionary socialist. Born in Germany, he later became stateless and spent much of his life in London in the United Kingdom. Marx's work in economics laid the basis for much of the current understanding of labour and its relation to capital, and subsequent economic thought. He published numerous books during his lifetime, the most notable being The Communist Manifesto (1848) and Das Kapital (1867–1894). Born into a wealthy middle-class family in Trier...

@GeorgetheDev: What is capitalism?

Capitalism is an economic system and a mode of production in which trade, industries, and the means of production are largely or entirely privately owned. Private firms and proprietorships usually operate in order to generate profit, but may operate as private nonprofit organizations. Central characteristics of capitalism include private property, capital accumulation, wage labour and, in some situations, fully competitive markets. In a capitalist economy, the parties to a transaction typically determine the prices at which they exchange assets, goods, and services. The degree of competition, the...

The number π is a mathematical constant, the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter, commonly approximated as 3.14159. It has been represented by the Greek letter "π" since the mid-18th century, though it is also sometimes spelled out as "pi" (/paɪ/). Being an irrational number, π cannot be expressed exactly as a common fraction, although fractions such as 22/7 and other rational numbers are commonly used to approximate π. @GeorgetheDev: What is Animal Farm?

Animal Farm is an allegorical and dystopian novella by George Orwell, first published in England on 17 August 1945. According to Orwell, the book reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalin era in the Soviet Union. Orwell, a democratic socialist, was a critic of Joseph Stalin and hostile to Moscow-directed Stalinism, an attitude that was critically shaped by his experiences during the Spanish Civil War. The Soviet Union, he believed, had become a brutal dictatorship, built upon a cult of personality and enforced by a reign of terror. In a letter to Yvonne...

@GeorgetheDev: What are your political views?

"Arlington" is a song written by Jeremy Spillman and Dave Turnbull and recorded by American country music artist Trace Adkins. It was released in June 2005 as the second single from his album Songs About Me. The song reached number 16 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart. == Content == It is sung from the viewpoint of a soldier, killed in battle and buried at Arlington National Cemetery. It was inspired by United States Marine Corps Corporal Patrick Nixon, who died in battle in 2003. After meeting Nixon's father, Turnbull was inspired to write the song. Adkins said that "This is...

Right.
@ParanoidPanda I have a problem with my NoScript. You have experience with it?
ABE filter

anyone would suggest some good settings: i.imgur.com/y39OLvP.png

It blocks accessing my router through the URL fritz.box, but does not block when I enter the direct local IPv4.
You know how I can configure it to ignore that URL?
@MrJackMcfreder Voted to close as "unclear what you're asking"...
Or @Fabby do you know how to configure NoScript's ABE filter?

user136984
@ByteCommander: Yes I do have experience with it... I will check... :)

3:38 PM
@ByteCommander i would like good partitions
any suggestions ?

^ is the error. (translated: "The request {...} got filtered by ABE: <LOCAL> Deny") @ParanoidPanda

user136984
@ByteCommander: So you want it to ignore a specific URL...? Or....?

@MrJackMcfreder For what? What is good in your eyes?
@ParanoidPanda Yes, that specific URL that points to my local router in my LAN.
192.168.*.1

@MrJackMcfreder there is no "good" when it comes to partitions.

user136984
@ByteCommander: Why don't you configure the rule in your settings?

3:40 PM
@ByteCommander Please help me, I am installing ubuntu 14 from scractch and i would like a good partition settings i.imgur.com/y39OLvP.png

That third number varies sometimes.
Because I don't understand that rule syntax.

@ByteCommander are those ok ?

user136984
Could you post an image or your ABE settings?

I tried, but failed.
Sure. But it's default and the window text is German.

user136984
Ok

3:41 PM
Kein Problem >:-D

No rules in the USER set.

user136984
You should have a look at this guide.

@ByteCommander No, I just turn it off when I need to use my router.
>:)

@ParanoidPanda had a look, but did not get enlightened...
@MrJackMcfreder It's ok. Depending on your RAM size you should probably enlarge your swap to 2-4GB. Maybe you want separate /home partition to keep your data separated from your system (useful for backup or reinstalling OS with keeping old data)

user136984
Hmm... Not sure, sorry...

3:49 PM
:-(

user136984
Perhaps you should ask a question on the main site?

Would it be on-topic on Ask Ubuntu?

user136984
There are some questions like that on StackOverFlow.

Why Stack Overflow? It has nothing to do with programming, has it?

user136984
Well, whatever runs on Ubuntu, is on-topic here, so I would think so...

user136984
3:51 PM
Well, that's what they say anyway, I think that it is a bit of a grey area, try here, if not accepted here, then somewhere else, perhaps NoScript have forums?

@ParanoidPanda Seems to work now. I changed it to:
Site fritz.box
Accept ALL from fritz.box
Deny

# Prevent Internet sites from requesting LAN resources.
Site LOCAL
Accept from LOCAL
Deny
Not sure if that is too much or too less restrictive though. but it's the first experiment that works.

does this mean i have 16 Gb ram ? i.imgur.com/04HtzEr.png

user136984
@ByteCommander: Glad you got it working finally! :)

Bye guys...

@Fabby See you later.

3:57 PM
C U L8R!

@MrJackMcfreder Seems so. Once you're in Ubuntu, you may run free -h to confirm it.

@ByteCommander so i put in swap 32 GB ?
@ByteCommander I am installing

-2
Q: How much swap should I take for ???GB RAM on 14.04?

TimI will install 64 bit 14.04 on a Thinkpad T400 with 8GB RAM. How much shall I allocate for the swap partition? And especially: WHY those recommendations for swap? (None of the existing answers explain any of the why!)

Now I'm really gone!
:P
RTFA ------^

@MrJackMcfreder No, not really. That seems too much. What are you going to use that machine for?

@ByteCommander just a server, what do you recommend ?

3:59 PM
No experience with servers.

user136984
@Fabby: Bye! :)

@MrJackMcfreder Read the answer...
It's all explained and contains a table!
You should trust me by now...

@Fabby I didn't understand quite, but i promise to learn more about ubuntu

You can repartition it later anyway. So e.g. give it 16GB swap and leave another few GBs free between main and swap partition so that you can enlarge either one later, if you can't decide now.

@MrJackMcfreder that is not an answer to the question. If you are hosting a website with apache and mysql you have other needs than when you use it as a file and printserver

4:03 PM
@Rinzwind i do have a website running with mysql and apache

then depending on the size of the sql database it might be worth it making a large partition for /var/
for backup purposes you would then backup /var and have both apache and mysql data safe

i have over 2 gb database

that's small. very small ;-)

actually uncompressed it's over 20 gb

still small ;-)

4:07 PM
so how much swap
should i have ?
@Fabby please Fabby this one last , none seem to give me a good suggestion

do you expect to be needing swap? if so 1.5x what you have in memory

I don't know man , can you suggest a good number
to keep the server running smooth
@Rinzwind 1 GB swap is fine ? I have 16 Gb ram
@Rinzwind Please answer me I have to install the server quickly if you don't mind

@MrJackMcfreder :? 1 x 1.5 is not 1.5 the amount of ram

@MrJackMcfreder 1.5 times your RAM size. Not 1.5 GB. The general rule of thumb is one to two times your RAM size as swap.
Just try 24GB swap and you will see after a while whether you need it or can shrink or have to expand it.

@ByteCommander so 16GB + 8 GB
@ByteCommander So i won't encouter issues with that Cuz I have 2Tb space

4:12 PM
For example, yes. there is no ultimate correct number. Not in general and also not for a specific system.
It has nothing to do with your disk size unless you run out of it, but you won't with 2TB.

@ByteCommander excellent so i go 24 Gb SWAP,?

Yes, try this value and if you get problems, enlarge it (which would be unlikely though).

@ByteCommander Thank you so much man! I appreciate your explaination and help

no problem. but you could start researching on your own from time to time too...

@ByteCommander Indeed I will! Thank you again :)

@ParanoidPanda Remember when I asked who upvoted the "shut up or..." comment?
@ByteCommander That's the old rule of thumb for <1 GB...
@ParanoidPanda that's because there is no such thing as a Buddhist calendar... >:) (or slightly maybe not enough Buddhists care enough to program one for Ubuntu...)

Welcome to the Ask Ubuntu General room, @baxx!

Hi I'm getting confused trying to install the latest nodejs
I wanted to write more there! 2 secs
I have done the following:

```
# Using Ubuntu
curl -sL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_0.12 | sudo -E bash -
sudo apt-get install -y nodejs
```

But I still have

```
└─[$]› nodejs --version
v0.10.25
```

^_^ hi @A.B.

@baxx That's an install script you've downloaded with curl, but instead of running it you tried to install node again. That's not going to do anything.
