@NathanOsman @Seth I shared a video with you on youtube, need to work on the sound, but that is what I put together for that video contest :)

I saw the notif. A bit busy atm but I'll check in 10 or 20. What video contest though?

oh, there was a phone/scope thing
2 days ago, by Mateo
Hey everyone! Ubuntu Phone Video contest: https://www.userfarm.com/en/call/scopes-your-content-wonderland/1408/description thousands of euros in prizes

oh cool.
Didn't see that.

hi @GeorgetheDev
What time is it? @GeorgetheDev

@Mateo It is currently Thu, 30 Jul 2015 00:30:09 GMT.

12:30 AM
Thanks! @GeorgetheDev
;P
woah, Nathan is away, and he left is bot in here...
Penguin Party!

haha
Can Iguanas join?

sure :)

:D
@Mateo Do you want video feedback here on YouTube?

either way

@Mateo So if I understand the contest right you are creating a short video that tries to describe a scope, so to speak?

12:40 AM
yeah, I think.

I know, it's not worded super well :P

I was thinking about putting the the Today text at the beginning
and I shot the video with the mx4 :)
the end was included assets they had for the project

@Mateo That might be a good idea.
I really like the music choice, brings out the wonder really well, the video is good too but the glare from the sun kind of messes with the exposure and causes some rough edges around the leaves.
Doubt there is anything you can do about that however.
Looks great though!
Is there a time lapse effect going there?

should be realtime, although the frame rate might have done an effect unintentionally
I thought it was nice that I didn't hit so much auto focus problems

@Mateo yeah that was pretty good, it seemed to be in focus the entire time.
@Mateo that must be. Sometimes it's hard to tell with leaves and a slight breeze xD

12:51 AM
yeah, they just float all around :)
Cool, thank you for the input @Seth

Loved the video!

np. Good luck!

hi @NathanOsman
@NathanOsman thanks!
was the audio peaking on your speakers

It took a few minutes to bring it up since I'm just on the edge of cell coverage at the moment.

oh, wait... my laptop is set to allow over 100%...

12:56 AM
I didn't notice any audio issues but I wasn't playing it very loud.

@Fabby you are here? :)
I've seen your edit =)

Yes...
How can I be of service, my lord?

o_O

Which edit?

@A.B. It's a joke...
It first said: how can I help?
then I edited it to what it is now... It's So extremely polite, it's an insult!

9:55 AM
Always the same, I need reviews =)

Like if you would ask for a coffee
Hey, you're ranked much higher then me now!

I understand the joke =) :P

Ah!

You're number one this month and this quarter

@Fabby But I have a lot to thank you =)

Oh!

I owe you a lot.

I'm a page 2 girl too now!

=)
@Fabby a page 2 girl, very nice =)

:-)
It'll be a while before we get another @Rinzwind... or Oli or... But it looks like you're on your way there!

@JourneymanGeek You've never seen a Vorlon girl? Thay're AWESOME!

@ParanoidPanda What did @NathanOsman say about using the sandbox???

user136984
@NathanOsman: I'm glad you finally fixed that thing with @GeorgetheDev.

user136984
@Fabby: Oh, sorry! :)

user136984
11:16 AM
@Fabby: How do you use quilt to apply a patch to a package by the way? :)

The only quilt I know is a blanket...
(sorry)

user136984
Ok... :D

user136984
Because I've been asked to patch the gnome-shell package with some patches I'm not even too sure how to download... :D

Ask @A.B.: he uses Gnome too...

user136984
11:30 AM
@A.B.: Do you know? :)

user136984
Well, actually it doesn't have to even be somebody who uses Gnome Shell, just somebody who has done packaging and patching. :)

@ParanoidPanda duckduckgo.com/…

user136984
@terdon: Yes, I already found this: wiki.debian.org/UsingQuilt However I am now confused about how to git the patches, and how to apply them...

user136984
I've got to apply these three patches: bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=752739 To the gnome-shell package, which I have got from apt-get source.

user136984
Any ideas? :)

user136984
11:37 AM
I'm not even too sure how to download them...

user136984
I have done some packaging before...

user136984
But never patching...

That sounds like a great question for the site if we don't have one.

user136984
@terdon: Don't you think that it would be closed as 'too broad'? Because I have a lot of problems, with getting the patches using git, not just patching the package...

In theory (though I know very little about this) what is applied is the diff. One of the main jobs of diff is doing this sort of thing. So, just click on the patch name in the link you posted and then follow the guide in the other link you posted to apply.

11:40 AM
@ParanoidPanda what? =)

@ParanoidPanda Why git? Just download them manually from the bug site

user136984
@terdon: The problem is, I'm not sure how...

user136984
Or what file format to save them in...

user136984
And what format to download them in...

user136984
Which page do I go to? Diff? Details? Do I copy and paste into a file? Or what?

11:42 AM
@ParanoidPanda Just click on the patch's name and save it as a text file.

Why would anyone downvote this???

@Fabby maybe opinion based: "is the best application to show how disk space is distributed in the entire system. " =)

Changed! :)
Thanks!

user136984
@terdon: Just as a txt file? Nothing special?

Patch files are always text files I believe

11:52 AM
Another down-vote! WTF is wrong today???
Maybe it's because I'm wearing a tie as I have to go to a job interview!!!
:D

@ParanoidPanda No, nothing special.

user136984
@terdon: This is the first file: bug752739.bugzilla-attachments.gnome.org/…

@Fabby Next time, wear something that doesn't look like a down arrow.

@terdon :D Good one!

@ParanoidPanda Yes, I saw. As I said, I don't really know how to do this either. Try it. First with the whole thing, then without the header. Ideally, read up on this first. There are loads of guides out there.

user136984
@A.B.: Do you know if I include the header? :)

@ParanoidPanda sorry, I understand nothing, which header?

@ParanoidPanda Use patch.

Maybe quilt is easier, I don't know. The classic too is patch.

@terdon: Ok, so how do I use that?

12:21 PM
I agree with @terdon

@ParanoidPanda I don't know. patch file.patch file.orig I think. Just go read a turorial.

user136984
Ok, I'll use patch, it doesn't really make a difference to me what I use, just if I can learn how to use it.

go in the parent folder of js/gdm/authPrompt.js
and start patch < your_patch_file

user136984
I have 3 patch files, so do I do them one by one?

eg go into foo if the path is foo/js/gdm/authPrompt.js
yes
the oldest patch first

user136984
Ok, I am there.

user136984
So I just do patch < mypatch for each of the files?

yes

user136984
I am not sure which one was the oldest...

user136984
Two where uploaded at the same time: bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=752739

12:27 PM
@ParanoidPanda Look at this line in the files: index a5c6862..6e5c79f 100644

user136984
@A.B.

First this index 88d11d7..a5c6862 100644
than this index a5c6862..6e5c79f 100644
and this index 6e5c79f..b57b00b 100644
That's the order

user136984

user136984
Because I can't find them...

1:20 PM
As you've downloaded the source code?

user136984
@A.B.: I have downloaded it with apt-get source gnome-shell. And I can't even find all this in my system... And I should have the same version...

@ParanoidPanda the patch doesn't works. I have tried it in the folder gnome-shell-3.14.4/js/gdm`
the output is
patching file authPrompt.js
Hunk #1 FAILED at 405.
1 out of 1 hunk FAILED -- saving rejects to file authPrompt.js.rej

user136984
So what should I do?

let me see
change the code by hand. It's only one line per patch

user136984
So what do I need to change? Just the file path?

1:28 PM
Add the lines with + in front and remove the lines with -
maybe you should use the Git version and not the apt-get source version

user136984
Where is the git version?

user136984
I've been trying to locate that...

user136984
Unsuccessfully though...

user136984
Ah... So I then just make changes and commit or what?

user136984
Am I still patching the same way?

no, go into the folder gnome-shell-3.14.4/js/gdm and place the patch here
after that patch again with patch < yourpatchfile
No, same error
o_O

user136984

user136984
If that was the right thing to clone...

=)

user136984
1:35 PM
So what is wrong?

no idea currently

user136984
Is there another way we could try?

maybe it's the best to make the changes via an editor
open the original file
and add the lines from the patch marked with a + in front and remove the lines marked with a - in front

user136984
So instead of using a patch I should just make those changes manually?

yes

user136984
1:37 PM
Is that just the manual way of doing what the patching would have done?

user136984
Same result, more work?

user136984
:D

yes

user136984
@A.B.: Ok, I have made all the manual changes, now what? :)

in the git version?

user136984
1:45 PM
Yes

user136984
When do I package it? Or do I not?

user136984
Apparently I need to upload it to a PPA to verify that it is working...

maybe you should use the apt-get source version for your changes. I assume, you have cloned the 3.16 version

user136984
Ah, no, wait!

user136984
I didn't do it to the git version, I got confused, and did it to the apt-get source version! :D

user136984
1:48 PM
So that is definitely the right version. :)

user136984
@A.B.: So now what?

j0h
Does Virtualbox support MIPS?

user136984
@A.B.: Do I need to package the whole thing up now then? :)

@ParanoidPanda yes, you have to build a package
