Woah, how is it @RPiAwesomeness?

5:24 PM
@AmithKK Haven't yet tried it out. Plugging it in now (had to put away the camera :P)

@ParanoidPanda With you on board??? Yes! ;-)

M305 Unplugged, G402 plugging in...
O.O It has glowy lights!

and and and?

It's awesome :D
With the QcK mousepad it slides so easily and just awesomeness
Bit bigger than I was expecting, but it looks to be totally awesome.

user136984
5:42 PM
@Fabby: Yes, well, I certainly hope so! :)

user136984
How many people are actually working on it?

user136984
Because it never really seems to go down...

user136984
6:01 PM
Vote to close this.

@ParanoidPanda Please retract your close vote...

user136984
Why?

user136984
How?

@ParanoidPanda No.

At the time (1 year ago) 13.04 was still a current version! :D
Just try to close it again...

user136984
6:05 PM
Yes, but it is no longer the current version, but is still open.

It's a grey zone...
my opinion differs...
If I see a question that was current at the time, I vote to leave open...
But I would appreciate the vision of a mod...
Anyway, for this one it's a good example on how to retract a vote:
just try to vote again... ;-)

6:21 PM
@Fabby Annoy you @ParanoidPanda?

Huh? I'm not trying to annoy Paranoid Panda...

=)

You, me, Bodhi, Pabi and Volker...

6:50 PM
I need a compiler profi

user136984
@Fabby: Ok, well I retracted my close vote for that one.

Well, now you know how to do it!
;-)
and in the screen with all the review queues, on the right you have the link for the stats per queue
on "recent reviews"

Q: which daemon can be vulnerable to malicious activity in Linux?

Saurabh MarneI had a Linux doubt while in a vulnerability while testing a project.

user136984
@Fabby: Do you have any idea?

user136984
I mean, the title kind of explains more...

user136984
But it's still very confusing...

7:12 PM
@ParanoidPanda Reading
Bodhi couldn't have formulated it better then me!
Shutting down!

user136984
@Fabby: What?

user136984
You are shutting down?

user136984
Or...? :D

user136984
@Fabby: Oh, I hadn't seen his comment! ;D :P So I got very confused what you were talking about!

What a day, chaos chatting and unresolved issues
I have to go
\o

7:19 PM
The heck is this white bar?
Huh. It was AE CS 2

Try running xprop and click on the bar
Or xwininfo
By the way like your icon theme

:)
Numix Circle
It's really great.

user136984
@RPiAwesomeness: How do you get that icon theme?

@ParanoidPanda One moment...I'll grab the link

user136984
@RPiAwesomeness: Ok, thanks! :)

7:24 PM
numixproject.org is the website of the people who did it, gimme a bit longer and I'll get instructions for installing
Here we go.
@ParanoidPanda Just the icon theme or the Gtk theme too?
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:numix/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install numix-icon-theme-circle
for the icon theme
You'll need Unity tweak to apply it

user136984
@RPiAwesomeness: What is the Gtk theme? And what will that do?

@ParanoidPanda It will change the look of the buttons/title bar/fonts/Unity side bar.

user136984
@RPiAwesomeness: Right, ok, thanks! Will give that a go! :)

Gnome tool kit

@Mudit If you're on GNOME. Unity Tweak works the best for changing it on Unity.

7:28 PM
is it Ubuntu emerged from Red hat Linux

o.O
wat?

Acc very long time ago in year 2002 there was a module in my Semster Red hat linux 7
I think Ubuntu first release was in year 2004

Correct. 4.04 Warty Warthog IIRC

I received a CD in year 2010 may be maverick meerkat
but I've been using Ubuntu for the first time since last year
what is HWE August 8, 2014 support
is there a way to boot Ubuntu 14.04 32 Bit as secure boot EFI
@RPiAwesomeness many happy returns of the day

7:46 PM
o.O It's not my birthday?

@RPiAwesomeness no way, isn't Ubuntu Debian based ?

@Serg Yeah, Ubuntu is Debian based.
I'm so confusled

o/ @Serg

@RPiAwesomeness but In your profile it shows as your Bday

o/ @A.B.
<.< i was confused, because @Mudit said ubuntu is Red Had based, and you mentioned that, so I was like what ?

7:48 PM
@Mudit It does? Where?

@RPiAwesomeness What is A registered Linux machine

Screenshot, if you would.

You sign up for an account there, then "register" your various machines. Let's people get a (rather not perfect) idea of how many linux machines there are out there.

7:50 PM
Ubuntu and red hat? No way

anyhow, Ubuntu is Debian based, ubuntu-certified machine is one that has hardware that 100% works with ubuntu,

Yes. Ubuntu is Debian-based. Never had relationships with Red Hat AFAIK.

Canonical certified hardware

@A.B. the whole systemd thingy in 15.04 kinda pissed me off because it started feeling like Fedora, but I guess I'll adapt to it. I kinda stopped going to Fedora , and been using mostly Ubuntu or Mint occasionally for coding pic microcontroller

@Serg no answers today? :)
I agree

7:52 PM
@A.B. nope. I am too busy getting ready to take out to dinner a girl who dates another guy, and whom I love like 5 years

user139252
I've been having trouble with something recently.

@DonaldBrown what exactly

user139252
I want to make a new user in Ubuntu with access to nothing but Scratch(already installed). If they close scratch, they are logged out.

Oh and it is 520 today, and 520 in chinese sounds like "I love you"

Another guy?

user139252
7:54 PM
I tried making a .xinitrc file that contained nothing but "exec=/usr/bin/scratch" and then removing all xsessions leaving only "system default" in the session chooser, but that didn't work. It just made an empty session with nothing but a background.

I used too dual boot windows 98 and red hat 7 years ago

@A.B. yeah. She gave me bunch of excuses, that I'm younger than her, but the guy is same age as me; she does not like my character, but i do everything she says, well almost; and last one . . . im not chinese, so . . . .I guess that's the biggest part

there was only root@root kind of login i guess
root@localhost
that time I've not think that something like Ubuntu will come out

@DonaldBrown Well , that's isnteresting. . . . I'd simply chmod all other programs, so that user can use it, except scratch
and isn't xinitrc only for desktop environments ?

user139252
Yeah, didn't want to have to spend time doing that D=. Oh well, if that's what it takes. I basically wanted to create a Scratch kiosk user.

7:58 PM
@Serg does not sound nice

@A.B. the only thing I could come up with at the top of my head

user139252
Yeah, but all that DEs do is pull up commands from the "exec" line. My method used to work back in 12.04, but I'm on 14.10 now.

configuring a 64KBPS dial up modem was a big thing in those days in Red hat

user139252
You can create your own pseudo-desktop environment by building your own set of commands into the xinitrc.

@Mudit I kinda wish to play around with some of the old systems, like I used to have win 98 pc, before in high school, but then i knew nothing about coding or anything

@Serg I was in to development in year 2002 for 6 Months AS VB6.0 developer
@Serg I was in to development as programmer in year 2002 for 6 Months on Visual basic 6

@Mudit wow, what did you guys work on ?

@Serg that was a banking project

With VB6?

I used to create forms and sql server as backened

8:04 PM
Neat

I think SQL server 7
A form to generate Unique customer ID with all the fields

I wish one day I could be a developer
well, I'm an engineering student, but I mean , i like programming

😁
Java is a good start

I did many things related to programming

@A.B. Are you on mobile?

8:08 PM
Yes

@A.B. working on it ^_^ passed my first java class, mostly because of experience in C. I took C 3 times, failed twice, passed third time with A

Javadeveloping desktop and distributed applications using VB 6.0

I wish I could better programming in C++

For my final project I wrote something like minimal ps program, to read all files in /proc/number folders and tell process name and pid

developing COMcomponents using VC++ 6.0

8:09 PM
crude but it worked

c++ and CGI programming and scripting

@RPiAwesomeness why?

then i worked as instructional designer for a short span

CGI? Really

yes
but as of now I am just a end user
Is it possible to buy a new Intel 810 motherboard and Pentium 3 (900 MHz now in India

8:17 PM
well, so far I've worked as bus boy in couple restaurants and started working at student computer labs at my university

@Serg very tough job
@Serg Are you a student

@Mudit yeah, especially since you have to do delivery, too. So I was constantly running around. Now my buddy wants me to go work with him for couple days, and I really don't wanna
@Mudit yes, I am

@Mudit Because your smiley showed up like one:

@A.B. what You do, I've seen you editing posts very rapidly

8:23 PM
holy balls, this answer gained me so much rep ! askubuntu.com/a/624127/295286

@RPiAwesomeness which one :0
i think @A.B. works with Cannonical

@A.B. Have you met Mark Shuttleworth O_O ?

@A.B. you met Mark Shuttleworth w0w

@Mudit I was just asking ^_^ I dont know for sure
@Fabby o/

@Serg ok i thought

8:33 PM
@Serg @ParanoidPanda [29 Things You Will Only Understand If You Studied Russian](www.buzzfeed.com/susiearmitage/29-things-you-will-only-understand-if-yo‌u-studied-russian)

@Fabby hello Fabby

\o

@Fabby How the World goes with you Sir?

@Mudit Sir? Now I really feel old...
;-) Meh: still looking for a job!
@Serg The simplest answers give you the highest rep!

@Serg Dang. +27 upvotes. Lucky duck. Best I've got is +10 :P
+14 on RPi.SE

8:36 PM
@Fabby see that's what baffles me, there's some answers , I've spend hours on, and yet they only get like 3 -5 upvotes

@Serg It means that Serg has got selected to work for AskUbuntu

Dumb question, dumb answer...

@Mudit O_O what ? when did that happen ?

@ParanoidPanda Don't blame it on me: You are confused and confusing all the time! ;-)

8:39 PM
Do moderators get paid

No

Then who can look after the Site

@Fabby -_- yeah, I remember that one, it was kinda . . . yeah, dumb . . .i mean, particular settings probably could destroy hdd, but not an os

I know that software can destroy hardware...
I haven't seen it happen in the last 20 years though...
I remember a bet between a software and hardware engineer:
One said he could, the other said he couldn't destroy hardware...

if I am using a broken dell laptop hard disk in my computer which has primarily ubuntu 12.04 will it get destroyed in a diff system

8:44 PM
Took the hardware engineer 2 burnt out monitors before he believed it!

@Mudit it shouldn't get destroyed, but you may have driver issues

@Mudit Depends where it's broken...
(and your software config)

@Serg no if i formatted it and install ubuntu 15.04
my laptop is broken and i took out hard disk and RAM cant i use it in my other system

what's your other system ? is it a desktop pc ?

E.g. if you have a bad sector that sends your hard drive head out of alignment after let's say the xxxMB mark and you create a xxx-1MB partition and don't use the rest of the HD, there's no problem any more.

8:46 PM
@Serg yes

@Mudit Laptop RAM in a desktop?

hardidk is perfect in health no bad sectors

HD: yes!

yes

Desktop PCs have different voltage. Also there's different type of connector. There's SATA and PATA, so you need to make sure connectors match

8:47 PM
RAM: I don't think so unless you find a converter...

It can work, just need to keep iin mind those things

@Serg Meh... Desktops are the mongrels of the PC world:

ite biostar nh2 intel celeron j 1900 motherboard'

@Fabby what do you mean ?

They eat anything, drink anything and £µçk anything!

8:48 PM
with 1333 MHZ laptop ram slots

(meaning: you can always mount a piece of HW in a PC....)

@Fabby yeah, they're tough, but still gotta match hardware
PATA vs SATA

Even a laptop motherboard...
add a card to an extension slot...

PATA and IDE are no different I guess

add another extension card...

8:50 PM
I'd just use USB

:-)

I've pata and sata USB connectors

That's why I like PCs with 8 empty slots...

Pretty useful

@Serg but sloooooooooow

8:51 PM
:3 true, just gotta balance things
cost and opportunity

does TDP of a processor consumes more energy from socket
like 65W AMD and 55w Intel pentium G
ok @Fabby good night Sir and happy GF and Job hunting

@Mudit :D
g'night!

Anyone up for some so hilarious I can't stop laughing, here

watching

alien got freaky with a weather balloon XD

9:00 PM
It just keeps getting better.

Greetings from OpenStack!

Just hung out with Marco so that was cool.

@hbdgaf thank you sir, for this bit of humor :) It was educational tho

Yeah, I think that's what they were going for... it's supposedly a series put out by an aquarium to try and boost tourism.

@NathanOsman Dude. Lucky duck. I'm so jealous.

9:07 PM
Hey I wasn't attending the conference. I was just physically there.

Oh. Well, still cool that you go to meat Marco.
4 hours ago, by RPi Awesomeness

AND Oli introduced me to BeautifulSoup, so my day has just been amazing.

@Serg The cuttlefish is also a good one.

@hbdgaf watching

Yeah, BeautifulSoup is great for screen scraping. XPath is a bit of a monster though.

@hbdgaf i subbed to that guy. too damn funny
the only way it could be better, if it was morgan freeman narrating stuff

9:18 PM
^^ agreed.

@NathanOsman Yeah, it's made parsing the XML a breeze. Now I'm stuck on some bug where the Gtk TextBuffer, when you apply the underline or italic flag, applies that to any text that follows, even though it's not formatted in the TextView :P

That's GTK+ for you :P

@NathanOsman Yap :P
Huh.
After Effects rendered the images as pure white?

9:39 PM
That's Adobe for you :P

lol. I guess so. I got it to work somehow - I think I had set up the render wrong.

gtg guys
see ya around

\o
O.O the size difference between AVI and MOV O.O
Apparently, AE can only export RGB + Alpha for AVI. And good gosh the size difference...

9:56 PM
@hbdgaf Too much noise around here now and my line-out doesn't work, so I'll review later...

What happened to your little arm?, they say
xD
@hbdgaf Thank you so much for sharing this xD

np. it came up in a feed, but wasn't share-able - so i hunted down a YT playlist.
@RPiAwesomeness - I hope you were being facetious on the nicotine ping on the drug test. Poppyseeds ping for opiates.

@hbdgaf sigh I meant opium. I screwed up. I don't keep up with my illicit substances very well, okay? :D

I had a guy once tell me "you should come work with me." I was all "nah brother... the drug test." His answer: "Dude, you could totally pass a drug test, as long as it was a taste test" rimshot

xD
xD the armadillo one bwahaha
In texas, they are sometimes referred to as an Opossum on the Half Shell
I'm dying up in here

10:04 PM
They're great.
Also, Yeah. sidenote: I might have been a little rambunctious in my younger days. Stopped all but the legal and prescribed ones now for YEARS, but I do carry around a certain amount of "weird knowledge"

@RPiAwesomeness In Florida we used to chase and kick them to get them scared, then let the dog play with them. Same with crabs. We tore off the claws and let the small children run in circles chasing them around the yard.

@hbdgaf Oh, the poor things :D

It kept them occupied while we cooked a whole pot of crabs.

lol. I'm sure :)

10:08 PM
Or, it got them dizzy enough that they'ld sit down and just wait.

@hbdgaf :D
I'll remember that line!

Alright, I exhausted my humor quotient for the night. Anyone working on anything fun?
@Fabby It is a good one.
@Fabby Another good one where I work now is "How do you fail a drug test you know is coming? It's not like they're taking hair. It's open book. The products to beat it are readily available. It's an OPEN BOOK TEST. You can't fail it..."
sadly over half of our applicants do.

:O
OTOH: I've been in the military...
When it comes to dumb, you can't beat the military...

Well, in the military it's non-random random selection. In the corporate sector it's only if you make someone really angry or have an accident. So... Point taken though. It's like smoking a fat one on your ride to the recruiter's office. You have to simply be retarded.
@Fabby I'm not going to touch where I could go with that one... It's better that I don't.

10:19 PM
>:)

and no. I was never military.
I did call a l4d2 player out on being military once, b/c he took cover from a grenade he threw behind a pylon. I was all "gamers don't do that. they know the plast radius and aren't scared of shrapnel." I might have gotten a "Well played sir" out of that one.
sup @Mateo

Hi @hbdgaf how goes it

Odd day at work and an odd ride home (weird discussions, but best left where they occurred). Still, I think I'm getting through to some people about the things they're doing that don't make any sense. I do need to get an appointment with a general practitioner to submit my BP logs and get an extension on my crazy-pills.
Saw the ping about the groundwork for camcastic. Hope that works out for you guys. It was a decent project to play with, but not something I could do full time.

Yeah some conversations get weird

Well - the broad strokes that I could talk about are "Two different people are getting rides from one person to work. One of them has some serious badness going on in their home stuff... and odd occurrences at work so - maybe no longer getting a ride." If we don't both lose the ride - it can cause conflict at work. So, it's an odd situation, but that's as specific as I'll make it.
I do still probably have a ride to work, but the double-safe way I would play it if I were the other person means I'm out of a ride. So, take that how you want.

10:31 PM
@hbdgaf sure, something I mess around with time to time, might be fun for someone starting out

Just to clarify, I call them crazy pills as a joke. It's Klonopin at the lowest dose offered to try and combat "panic attacks", but other uses include schizophrenia, muscle tremors, and an anti-psychotic. It's working, so I really just should probably get a refill before I run out and have to do another eval on why I need what and a different script that I'm not sure will work.

10:49 PM
@NathanOsman manage to pick up Ubuntu swag at the conference?

ofc he did, they gave him an ironman suit with an Ubuntu logo on the mini-reactor hole in the chestplate

@A.B. an answer you will like! ;-)

Q: Where should I ask questions when I find no answers on Ask Ubuntu?

Nickolai LeschovSometimes my questions receive no unanswers at all, e.g. Ubuntu is 'Waiting up to 60 more seconds for network configuration…' on boot How do I exclude specific packages from installation with apt-get? Probably that's because the people that could answer the question are not on Ask Ubuntu. Su...

@hbdgaf did you see in chat when I posted that Netflix works for chromimum

Good typo!
From now on, I'll use "Chrominimum" whenever referring to Chromium... ;-)

11:01 PM
Yeah, never said I can spell ;p
so they even compiled in the vaapi driver, so it is supposed to be better than chrome

Q: Where am I supposed to PyCharm files?

AntoI've just downloaded PyCharm (pro) for Linux (I'm running Ubuntu). It's basically a zipped directory containing everything it needs to run (tree below), including an entry point (bin/pycharm.sh). Just unzip it and execute the entry point; that's it. But now I'm a bit struggling with this silly ...

@AskUbuntuMeta nice one @Seth
answers - found - status - Search for answers before asking questions.

11:20 PM
@Mateo yeah, nice one.
Any idea how they did it? patching pepper, making chromium misrepresent, other?

I think the second to avoid touching the pepper libs

Probably the best approach.

Looks like. I didn't read the commits, but just where the commits are speaks to what they did. Possible downside, some flash applets no longer take advantage of hardware acceleration that used to

I'll have to try and find the chromeobook arm versions and see if they will pull over
would be epic having netflix on the pi 2
flash worked alright

11:27 PM
I've had weird instances of flash where hardware acceleration worked sometimes and sometimes not for video.

@Mateo I couldn't enter the exhibition hall but Marco grabbed some Ubuntu stuff for me.
Got a bag, some stickers, a notebook, etc.
Already found a nice spot on my laptop to add the sticker to.

Heh, I used to have some blackhat swag I didn't buy from a friend from India.

cool, none of the sunglasses huh

No, they must have run out.

ah
once I saw those I wanted to be there just for them ;)

11:29 PM
You need cool sunglasses, I like the oil rig design from the off-brand oakley forgeries.

My penguin had some shades. I can't easily wear physical sunglasses myself since I already have prescription lenses.
I'd either have to get prescription sunglasses or those bulky (and mildly ugly) "over-your-glasses" shades.
@hbdgaf But hey those aren't bad.

hope they put them in the store with the pi cases

I got a lanyard and that white sheet of paper on the left.

Now you just have to 3d print the ubuntu logo on the arms instead of the foakly logo

my pair of jagermeister shades is wearing out

11:37 PM
I'ld rather have a pair of these s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/1a/22/49/… the nerd from la femme nikita... but i'll take what i can get/modify.

Okay, moving from my laptop to desktop, I can see how much whiter the laptop screen is. My two desktop monitors both have way too much red.
