@Virusboy :)
You don't say... :)

sdmit little weisnerhiemer

BWAHAHA!
Apparently Visual C++ 2010 comes pre-drunk!
Or at the very minimum it can get itself drunk without your help.

Thank the gods for German Engineering.

Shoot.
Curses

i have no idea what you need to do
or what you did

I'm trying to install After Effects CS2 under WINE and it's not being nice

use the msi install in WineTricks

The AppDB lists it as a Gold app for Ubuntu with WINE 1.6 - just something about having to install it on Windows and then copying.

but you have 1.7

1:25 AM
No, 1.6.2
$ wine --version
wine-1.6.2

Ok, so.. in review, someone has already downvoted, someone has already commented, and flag is not really appropriate..

What do you do, not I'm done, because then it is accepted answer, not skip because that doesn't really do anything...

link it

^ for starters
@NoTime If you agree with the comment, upvote the comment, then just say you're done. Of, you can re-flag it appropriately.

flag it

1:31 AM
didnt know upvoting comment would let me do I'm done

@NoTime ;) Yup

That can be helpful

@NathanOsman nice, did you get the mac mini?

@NathanOsman should have gotten hackintosh
@RPiAwesomeness Arch, Ubuntu, or Elementary?

Make me a Hackmiga

1:37 AM
@NoTime I'd be crazy enough to try

@Whaaaaaat I think they already have stuff that works, and amiga wasn't as proprietary if I remember correctly

Mac 10.10 on an Amiga console.
Let's try this.
/me codes furiously

@Whaaaaaat Eh?
Are you asking for a distro suggestion?

@RPiAwesomeness need to reinstall linux because my ext4 is messed up beyond belief
and yes.

1:39 AM
rip #! "crunchbang: :( theregister.co.uk/2015/02/09/…

don't hashtag that.. it won't make sense
##!

[i didn't have enough coffee today]
lol
but really, it is an OS

yeah

@Mateo Noooo

they had an awesome version for pi too

1:41 AM
is Archbang in any way related?

i can't decide. i like ubuntu because i can throw my problems on AU.
i like elementary because its shiny.

Well, Arch is for the Masochists ahem, brave. Ubuntu is the most well rounded, and Elementary is the prettiest.

i like arch because it's a custom built system

I have arch and ubuntu

For most people I'd say Ubuntu, but I think you could pull of Arch @Whaaaaaat

1:42 AM
but, since ubuntu is coming for pi doesn’t matter much anyway...

i can make ubuntu shiny...
i can probably make Arch shiny too.

Archbang is easier install, but idk if Archbang (arch) was part of Crunchbang (debian)

Is that even possible?

Arch can be anything

I mean, they're both Linux kernel-wise, but Arch & Debian are separate, right?

1:43 AM
there was the arch that had unity

Yeah you can install unity on arch
you can do HURD kernel too if you really want

Forgive me everyone. I've booted Windows XP.

The have an ArchBSD too... but idk how that works.

I was a fan of XP

CHALLENGE! Make Arch Elementary-level pretty.

heh

1:44 AM
Oh my. Have fun!

I really shouldn't say this, but there's something nostalgic & warm about the whole rounded blue GUI

just install e17 stuff :)

i need to install OS X any ideas

@Virusboy on non mac?

1:45 AM
I'm still mad at Gnome.

yes @notime

@Virusboy If you haven't done it before and you don't have a Mac, give up.
Ask @RPiAwesomeness

@Whaaaaaat Gnome lets down a lot and I dont know why

@Whaaaaaat Well, that's just 'cause I don't have the right partition stuffs

Gnome killed the best DM ever.
Gnome2 was perfect.

1:46 AM
It was very good.
MATE FTW!

You could do anything with Gnome2.

wasn't cinnamon supposedly better replacement, or am I confusing it

Gnome3 and Unity don't have that level of customization.

@Whaaaaaat unfortunatly I need to learn OS X for job
cinnamon can be install on Trusty.

Well. Windows XP just froze.
Reminds me how much better Ubuntu is

1:47 AM
@RPiAwesomeness Are you surprised?

I mean, I had a setup.
Gnome2 top panel and Cairo Dock.
It was perfect.
And then damn Unity came along and ruined it.

You can kill the sidebar if thats what you are looking for

XP sucks as much balls as every winblows out there

I can't even move the Unity bar to the bottom of my screen.

1:49 AM
I tried to open a 2.4GB file and all of Windows XP went to all heck

Why can I not choose where my Unity Launcher Bar goes?!

You can move the dock and stuff around, it's just more work

Guess I'm sticking with Ubuntu guys! ;)

@NoTime i've tried...

thats a no brainer @RPiAwesomeness

1:49 AM
@Virusboy It is indeed :)

@Whaaaaaat it's a lot of work :) I did a bunch to first ubuntu install.. let me see if I can find some resources for you

Hmmm. I don't want to go to Unix.SE just so I can use arch.

Next LTS I'm gonna reinstall on my laptop. Probably Ubuntu MATE, or if I'm feeling really brave I'll try Arch.

@Whaaaaaat so, I don't have to obsess over where my bar goes and just use it ;)

Im getting a new pc and Gentoo is going on it

1:51 AM
@Mateo unfortunately, i'm too used to the windows/mac screen-bottom thingy.

@RPiAwesomeness it really isn't as hard as you would think

I have Windows on the side on autohide

@Whaaaaaat For shame

@Whaaaaaat you can do a lot with ccsm

No default networking or wireless?
@NoTime I used to be able to do it.

1:52 AM
you can use docky or or a dock, then it would be just like mac, just hide the side bar

The module that supported it was killed in 11.4

You have to change the sensitivity of reveal

it took a broke turn for the worse

so you set the dock to autohide, then you put sensitivity of reveal to 0

i thought ubuntu was about freedom?

1:53 AM
the only odd thing that happens is when you use super key the side dock shows up

Open Source doesnt mean true freedom

^ and that's a problem

but.. you can find the icons, and put them to transparent with GIMP

Yes it is

1:54 AM
You can also change the icon size on the dock to super small, so you don't accidentally click them

that ideal died when Steve Jobs took back Apple/Macintosh

@Mateo: yup.

and remove all but the ubuntu icon

Can I just force Gnome2 on 14.04?

@Mateo: I've got it compiling (with a single line hack that gets removed once CMake 3.2 gets released).

1:54 AM
you should already have it@Whaaaaaat

@Whaaaaaat you want fallback mode?

@NathanOsman ah, something that shows it where what it needs?

@Whaaaaaat Ubuntu MATE.

@Virusboy have ccsm?

RIP ping notifications

1:55 AM
GNome2

@NathanOsman so how does it feel to own a mac?

@Mateo Just something to tell Clang to turn on C++11 mode.
 set(CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS "${CMAKE_CXX_FLAGS} -std=c++0x")

MATE Desktop Environment: The MATE Desktop Environment is the continuation of GNOME 2.

@Mateo it feels like turning your computer on requires you to put $20 bills in the CD slot.

@Whaaaaaat Feed Me! :)

1:56 AM
Welcome to the new age @Whaaaaaat
Now shut up and take my money

does Mate finally support GTK3?

what about XFCE?

I'm tempted to go buy one of those $13 Windows keys off reddit just so I have it...

@RPiAwesomeness ? why do you want a Winkey?

? are people selling their xp keys or something

2:00 AM
@Mateo No. People who can buy in bulk buy a bunch and then sell them.

sounds fishy...

you can get trial version which acts as full version for like 30 days
just use it as VM, don't share date

It's apparently in the grey. It's not something that Microsoft expressly forbids, but it's not exactly condoned either. Plus, Microsoft can't do anything about it and I'd only use Windows for gaming and the occasional software test.

OH
I thought you meant the Windows Super key.

well, they do say "non transferable" so...

2:02 AM
Heh :)

why do you need XP?

@Whaaaaaat I'd get 7 or 8
It's apparently pretty legit, plenty of people are confirming their purchases as good.

VISTA!!! The best OS eva!@!!!1!!@111

then you would get your card hacked...

@Mateo Yeah, probably. I'd just use a disposable one if I ever did it.

2:04 AM
Use a prepaid visa
or whatever

it's reddit anyone can make hundreds of accounts to confirm.

problem I think those are still attached to name and address

@Mateo True, but for the most part these are actual users (they're quite active elsewhere)

no

Plus, I should, in theory, be able to upgrade to Windows 10 for free if I've got 7.

2:07 AM
someone did upgrade from Windows 1.0 to 8 (guessing incrementally) I am going to watch that

i did that once
from DOS though

DOS 6.22, Win 1.0, 3.1, 95, 98, ME, XP, Vista, 7, 8

Win ME, Microsoft best buy!

$15 for Windows 8 Standard. Hrm. It's worth a shot some time down the road. Not something I need now.

They skipped the ones in between for windows
point versions

2:12 AM
yea because 3.0 and 3.1 are different

$119.99 USD ERP <-- Full price for 8.1

its more

No way in heck am I paying $120 for something I would hardly ever use.
Anyways. G'night folks.
\o

im review blocked
because an audit failed when should have passed

@RPiAwesomeness that sounds fishy.

Q: why windows boot faster than linux

barejI know windows 8 halfly hibernates than complete shutdown to speed up its boot. Looking at benchmarks on here, even windows seven and vista boot faster compared with Linux. Since Linux is much less in size compared with windows and it has much less code redundancy, is there any reason to justify ...

@Fabby: thanks for the edit - nice work (I only added another blank that was still missing) :)

(y)
I've forwarded so many people to your page already, that I thought I'd read it completely this time around! ;-)

there always is another typo in any post... looking at it apparently makes it disappear to our eyes.
we should have self healing posts

:D And you saw something I didn't... Oops...
:D
We have that already!
It's called "reviewers and editors"

@Fabby I saw it long ago but I felt a single blank is too little to bother.

:D And I didn't even see it!

we got half a pack of cigarettes, a tank full of gasoline, and we wear dark sunglasses. So the typos can't catch us.

@Rinzwind And the entire site is going to go immediately for a 1500 bounty! (if you can even set a bounty that high)
@RPiAwesomeness: so what do you have to do to get that PI? Kill someone? Blow up some building???? ;-)

@Fabby Just give them me home address...sooo they ... can blow ... me up... OH NO! WHAT HAVE I DONE!??!
:)

:D

jk. I just have to give them my address and what I plan to do with said Pi 2

user136984
@Rinzwind @Fabby: The largest bounty you can set is 500.

What do I do? I could just accept because it is a good edit. However, it's also adding a bunch to the original answer.
Should I reject with a custom message?

Oops.
Sorry. I thought you wanted me to review that one!
I accepted.

I dunno what to do with it...
I guess I'll just accept it.

It doesn't give him any extra rep to include original things and it improves the OP
My humble opinion

I'm going to leave a comment below that one.
Just looked at his activity
he's not taking the mickey...
he's actually improving posts.
So let him!
Anyone around here have any close votes left for this one? It's a hardware issue and smells like product placement.
