Lets see.
@Whaaaaaat How did you "confirm duplicate" the question?
The questions are very similar, but that doesn't automatically make them duplicates.

can someone help with this

@Seth They have the same general problem, same description, same effects.

I don't see anything about a proxy in the second one.
That's why I am hesitant. He might be able to correct it with proper proxy configuration. Besides, that bug is supposedly fix-released.
but we'll see.

second paragraph:
I have tried to do this both at work (where it hangs) and at home, where it works perfectly. The difference is that at work we have a proxy.

I don't see that here: askubuntu.com/questions/181371/…
Wrong link perhaps?

1:08 AM
Anyone interested in the Vi/Vim proposal on Area 51? I just needs a little more push to reach commitment.

@Seth ... Another @Whaaaaaat-sized screw-up.

Q: How to configure proxy for online account authentication

Tomas FWhen I try to register a new online account the authentication screen just hangs and finally ends in "An error occured while loading the authenication page". any vmware player users here? I am getting an unexpected end of file the installer is extracting itself. Tried 6.0.{1,2,3}. md5 and sha1 sums check out for all three. Anybody else facing this?

sounds like VMware's fault.

yeah, but it stuns me that all three failed..

Does anyone have hackintosh experience?

3:54 AM
The first rule of hackintosh is.... ;p
(I did it once on a spare box, it was a horrible unmitigated disaster)

yes?
what is the first rule?
;p?

do a shitload of research and build a box for what you want to do

I'm kinda stuck with this laptop

4:09 AM
With mine, volume was stuck at maximum
Amd or Intel?

4:24 AM
I didn't use the hackintosh image

4:50 AM
@hbdgaf not virtual.

Then you're begging for pain... hackintosh is bad for you unless you buy the hardware specifically like @JourneymanGeek said.

It works sort of.

Exactly. "Sort of" and "Buggy"

Just sound, graphics and it works fine.

<.< then why are you asking for help?

4:58 AM
because you are linuxies
2
linux is unix
and osx is darwin
and darwin is freebsd
and freebsd is unix

not the same

similar.
just asking if anyone had experience

Unix based, POSIX compliant, Unix, MacOS, and Linux are not all synonyms

never said so.

It's sort of like saying Civics are Hondas. Hondas are cars. Diablo is a Lambo and Lambos are cars. So they're both cars. Why can't you repair them the same way?

5:02 AM
similar. and I was asking if someone had experience on how to fix there things

nope

5:47 AM
@Whaaaaaat: I find there's a fair bit of learning curves between linux distros

meh

and OS X was completely different

@JourneymanGeek see my analogy five lines or so above

and when something dosen't work you might not always have the tools you need to get it to

6:39 AM
long story short, a fellow i know was thinking about a steambox for streaming... but he wants windows games not linux games. so, i was all "don't do it. use existing hardware to push your screen somewhere else and call it a day"

What about keyboard/mouse?

bluetooth

Its not just about pushing video, using streaming for games also means you have the option of 'local' controllers
in which case you're still pretty close to the system you're using

yeah, he's not trying to move it miles, just to his living room
office chair versus sofa and screen vs tv type of thing

Q: PHP running under "www-data" user

hi @hbdgaf

anything interesting on the mat front?

messing around with the "steam" machine (just a ubuntu machine with the steam desktop), also did a desktop "webapp" shortcut for netflix
that might be interesting to package with the depandcy for chrome, and a new version of nss
but for now instructions to do it yourself:
6
A: Is there a way to stream Netflix?

MateoNative 14.04, 14.10 You can now watch natively with HTML5 on Chrome Beta, The comprehensive instructions were detailed here: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2014/08/netflix-linux-html5-support-plugins Steps to take from a fresh install(see the source for other complex issues or troubleshooting): D...

(shameless answer promotion)

heh. people have been talking about netflix native on desktop with chrome recently

yeah, so might be cool, install chrome deb + deb that puts the desktop file in the right place type of thing, two step netflix desktop, and even after they update things the webapp would still be useful
I might try on a free day

I only have a couple of hours left before i have to sleep for going it tonight. i'm overnights for 5 days then 4 off

2:58 PM
sounds busy, there is a lot of stuff happening next week, a lot of new shows starting up, then the Hyperlight Drifter Beta/Preview over the weekend

yeah. i just saw the netflix infrastructure test monkey army... if you haven't seen it yet, they seem like fun people techblog.netflix.com/2011/07/netflix-simian-army.html

interesting, kind of like fire drills

Yep. Fire drills, checks, and triggers.

but better, because they are not just walking out to the burger king across the street and standing while the building burns down;)

Let's call some of those "performance and bandwidth distribution tests". There's something neat about "Yeah, we run live fire training exercises in production"

3:27 PM
@hbdgaf isn't that called "stress test"?

Sort of, but they're talking about taking entire operating centers out of the mix. That's a bit more than stress testing I should think.

I see

I think of stress testing as "We expect to handle X number of queries, so our test case script gets the current avg, then generates the gap". Where this is "simulate datacenter blackout" in the case of chaos gorilla
That doesn't touch the other simians though. Doctor and a few others. It's nice. People tend to zero in on the stressor ones.

I always thought of stress test as "lets try to put this server on fire and take the time that it took"

That's fair too. Yours tries to find the break point... which you couldn't really do in production with a lot of consistency. The other model of "We can take a gross network failure... here's the proof" is just wow.

3:34 PM
yeah, that is true

aw, geez. news reporters can't read... theverge.com/2014/9/19/6552939/…

heh

urg, it was a - if... we might make it so you don't have to use a user agent...

@hbdgaf repo

@Lucio ewww java

3:44 PM
xD
98%
the other 2% is a mix between netbeans config files and javadoc

4:03 PM
If I want a python server that just listen some port and load an HTML, is django too much for it?
@hbdgaf do you know a simpler software?

@Lucio flask is simpler
or bottle

bottle seems good

lots of people use both
so, this pretty dog is available for adoption facebook.com/EncShelterDogs/photos/…

thanks
¬¬

what, you no think i should get a dog? it's way easier than finding a person to spend time with >.<

4:14 PM
Jul 27 at 14:59, by Lucio
@hbdgaf is that your dog?!

dogs get a special place for me... and i haven't had one in a while.

you should get one

i think so. sort of have a way with them. went over to the ex-inlaws house before they were the ex inlaws... they had a toy something or other they didn't give much attention. like, it was a lap ornament that was supposed to behave. gave it some bellyrub and it laid there in a bellyrub coma dead cockroach position for like a minute and a half waiting for more. the inlaws: "What did you do to my dog?" /me snaps fingers and it comes running. was funny

I can imagine that lol moment
I can't install bottle with pip :S

it's one file, just pull it and import it locally

4:23 PM
oh, kk :D
bootle
xD

So I drank the bottle, that was the reason

Might be part of it.
you can pull the raw py file from here, if you want to just import it without a dependency raw.githubusercontent.com/defnull/bottle/master/bottle.py

that's rather simple

or that...

4:32 PM
port 80 in use O.o
any quick command to know who is listening there?

something like: lsof -i | grep ' 80 '

netstat -antp | grep "80"
@hbdgaf that is better
netstat says "-" as Program, but lsof says "firefox"
mmmm...
now it disappeared

if you must use netstat instead of lsof, you want "netstat -antp | grep ':80 '" and you're looking for red in the left column

but now it is gone!
I don't get it

you found an outbound firefox connection
not a server instance. taking a break

4:40 PM
@hbdgaf In spanish?
Thank you <3

\o/

dinner time!

@hbdgaf get some rest if I don't see you later

4:55 PM
yeah, i'll try

also uptick my comment...

in other news, the big box where i work had a brownout yesterday. the switches that connect the registers to the mainframe are on a second leg UPS with dead batteries and the batteries on the mainframe UPS has nearly dead batteries. so we were down for 2 hours time before last. this time i was there. "just get power to the switches and flip the big switch from UPS with the light out to land circuit with the light on... problem solved" an hour later they do it.
@RonnieMarlow - your website has some serious typos...

5:13 PM
Thanks Hbdgaf! I am planning on editing and working on it when I get some time.

Probably the funniest thing I'll read all day:
"Installing Chrome directly is like inviting a really cool guy over to your house when you know that he is definitely going to bring his friend with leprosy." -- https://github.com/jlund/docker-chrome-pulseaudio

5:51 PM
@Braiam that one is solved now.
which I think makes it a dupe..

6:22 PM
@Seth because people don't search

1 hour later…
7:39 PM
@Braiam yep, they don't.

1 hour later…
8:52 PM
hey @Mateo did you ever solve that one guy's midi keyboard issues?

nah :( I just need to try it out my self or something, It's a lot of trial and error, very hard to do over chat
@Seth were you thinking of trying?

That's sad. I can understand it though, I have a midi keyboard myself and getting it to work.. well I never did figure it out.
@Mateo I was mostly hoping I could just do whatever you guys did, but since you never figured it out, yes, I am actually.

there was one setting I found in the qsynth that looked hopeful, if you want to experiment with what we were talking about in the chat room
and that one article
hm, maybe I'll do a fry's run and see if there was a inexpensive midi thing like what he had
I need a firewire cord anyway

@Mateo oh yeah? thanks.
@Mateo A.. firewire cord? lol.

firewire 800, that is :) our sound board at church has the option of usb or firewire for recording

9:01 PM
ah. I suppose FW 800 would be faster than USB 2.0.

but the usb is why I think we are getting dropouts, it is 32 channels all at once...

ah
/me still hopes thunderbolt will get widespread adoption

/me thinks that Apple will sue anyone else that uses Thunderbolt.

hasn't happened yet, and Intel owns most of the rights.

/me is still waiting for light-based processors.

9:11 PM
> 600 packages to update
this is what happens when you don't boot your daily often enough.

yikes

meh, the reversible USB will probably be more likely

i want that.

@Mateo widespread adoption you mean? yeah, more likely. I just wish USB had the power that Thunderbolt does.
hm, is there an easy way to increase a VM's space?

@Seth space as in HDD size?

9:17 PM
yeah

virtualbox?

yeah

easiest way is to just add a new disk file
create a software raid in the guest os

that way?

yep

9:20 PM
that was a lot more painless than I thought.
then again, now my vm won't boot. Hmm.

oh wait.
Your UUID couldn't have changed?

9:37 PM
nah, I bet it has something to do with the updates.
It gets to the login screen and then hangs

sounds like updates

meh, I'll just reload.

10:23 PM
@Seth so I found a USB to midi cord, let you know once I set something up

10:50 PM
wait a minute, I just realized something.
Mine usually just plugs into the computer USB -> USB, I don't actually use the midi out for anything.
That might change things.
but cool
aww, I guess that means I won't be trying anything out.

11:24 PM
@Mateo I use USB on mine (see above), but I got it to play following a combination of the steps outlined in these answers: askubuntu.com/questions/141344/… and askubuntu.com/questions/147052/…
now to try recording. Ardour was what you were using right?

11:48 PM
oh, ardour 2 doesn't support midi tracks, which means I will need to build the software from scratch. hm.

@Seth there should be a ppa for 3
ok, so I don't have a keybord, but I do have midi out from another computer so should be similar

@Mateo cool.
@Mateo k, I'll go look.

I'll work on playback on this interesting set up ;)

blarg, jack messed everything up. I'll try again later/tomorrow. Don't feel like rebooting at the moment.

yeah, jack does that...
there are some interesting options in qjackctl for input/output
