@Rinzwind They actually have more than a few. They want all the power but to keep their funding. I don't think anybody there is seriously talking about separation though. They just couldn't afford it.

Do we have a question that has a graphical, user-friendly, simple answer about how to uninstall unwanted software? (Not about purging software, not about finding out what's taking up space, just about how to easily remove packages.) Besides perhaps deserving our votes, such a question and answer(s) might be an appropriate thing to dupe askubuntu.com/questions/164302/how-do-i-delete-files-in-usr to.

10:48 AM
@EliahKagan Oli's answer there may need the one or the other screenshot to be fine for this: askubuntu.com/questions/1143/how-can-i-uninstall-software - I'd just do it but can't because here's an all-Windows-office ATM

11:11 AM
@Takkat Thanks, that looks good. I agree a screenshot may make it better, but I think I can dupe-vote now.

1 hour later…
12:11 PM
askubuntu is acting up

Q: GIMP image editor

bristihow do i create a slideshow in GIMP image editor using jpeg images saved in a folder and use it as wallpaper in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS version? The slideshow has to be timed so that the wallpaper keeps changing at fixed time interval, and background music is also present..

Q: Is AU more a hotline or a knowledge base?

PyrophorusTrying to help a little and reading some meta (hot) posts, I went across this question. It's a general way to convey some doubts like this one: replying to someone is often a dialectic process, not merely giving a solution. In other words, it's driving the OP to find a solution with questions an...

Anyone else having problems with software center since the last update?

I usually always have problems on the netbook with it, let me try my desktop

I am getting authentication errors

nope, just installed preload no problem

hmm
thanks for testing :)

did you add any sources lately, I know the old opera deb src didn't have verification

2:30 PM
nope
I normally always use command line; no problem there :D

so it would throw up an error every time and had to apt-get...
ah, hm. strange

I do not even have a 3rd party ppa :D
ah well :D

erg, I keep getting "Data files for some packages could not be downloaded" for ttf-mscorefonts-installer

lol

ok purging it now...

2:33 PM
always fun :=)

anyway, I think play-on does it's thing auto on that end, so don't need them in the base install right?

I think this question is useless as it is not recommended to use mv to move files! I'm confused How to answer properly because only answer how to move by mv is not useful (as/but questioner asked!) and also not recommended! Should it is closed as duplicate of this Finally?
Also @RaduRădeanu 's answer here
Is merging an alternative solution?

2:50 PM
@Pandya If he wants to know how to do it with mv, show him how. Just make sure he knows it isn't a good idea :)
so no, not a duplicate.

@Seth I first show only that but my answer getting vote-down+un-accept etc. so I have to revise it show revisions

I see that.

3:32 PM
good everning Seth

morning Rinz :)
@EliahKagan I have added a screenshot.

3:50 PM
you shot a screen?
yay 2 more badges for me \o

4:05 PM
@Seth Cool, thx. Looks good. I like that it's a link to the full size image.
Btw I've edited this answer to improve the formatting and make clearer that it's recommending that command as the solution. Both comments there can probably be removed sometime soon as obsolete.

anyone have an idea for this:

Q: Can I use old ubuntu mtp system?

LevanI have a walkman that uses mtp Fun, well since ubuntu 13.04 I can not get ubuntu to read/write files on this device. However I know that ubuntu 12.04 (first release) works on this device without any problem. So what I want to know is there a way to take Files from my old ubuntu 12.04 cd and pu...

4:22 PM
@EliahKagan done. Thanks.

@KasiyA Please stop approving bold in posts.

btw, anyone know of an IRC client that integrates with Unity well? i.e. I can minimize it to the messaging menu? xchat doesn't work with that anymore.

4:38 PM
@Seth nope not me sorry. I have been stuck with xchat and anything else I tried was worse :-P

yeah, same here so far :(

5:01 PM
I just downvoted one of Luis's answers. Seeing as it was Luis, I have the nagging suspicion that I may have missed something:
This won't work, you still won't have write access to /var/www/html and you just removed execute access from the target so nobody but root can cd into it. Plus, you blindly set the permissions of all files and directories under /var/www/html to -rw-r--r-- which should essentially break your webserver. Am I missing something? — terdon 6 mins ago
Does anyone else agree?
Ah, no. I was right. Yay!
Wow you are right, sorry, next time I won't answer through the phone and almost at 6 am. — Luis Alvarado ♦ 27 secs ago

@terdon that;s the way to go! :D
he is never going to catch me like that :+)

:)

5:25 PM
I need 1 more good question to answer :-P

5:40 PM
success

all the good questioneers went to bed :(

hm, maybe time for video games then

I am almost done with Tales of Xillia 2 :=)

wow, dual screens, multiple computers, or alt+tab?

no a PS4 and a notebook :=)

5:47 PM
:) that works

well a PS3 for TOX2 ;-)
I have 2 PS2, 1 PS3 and 1 PS4 hooked onto a HDMI and a digi audio splitter with the video going through a beamer :=D
eagerly waiting for FF15 :=)

ps2 was awesome

yeah. I got 2: EU and US PS2 (since they are region locked)

@Rinzwind is that the delayed FF13 VS made into an actual number final fantasy?

about 500 PS2 games _O-
@Mateo noooooooooooo FF15 gonna be a new game. rumor has it it is going to be a big hit. Better than 10 through 14

5:51 PM
hrm, looks the same to me: dawallpaperz.blogspot.com/2007/10/…

its gonna be very open :)

Took them long enough ;) which platform is it going to be on?

aw, no 360? that is the one they originally started making it for...

no 360, need an xbone >:D

5:57 PM
so, MS did buy Minecraft/Mojang.

oh well, I switched to the computer, didn't keep up with the consoles
@Seth so It wasn't a dream? I had a fever a couple of days ago...

No dream :/ sorry to hear about the fever.

@Mateo Yep. It's gonna be XBOne only soon.

Don't state opinions like facts.
2
Microsoft said it would continue to support the game across all its current platforms.

Oli
I'd probably take some relief that they spent so much on it. Their board will crucify anybody who destroys it. Locking it to two platforms, or locking down the server side would do that very quickly.

6:03 PM
indeed.

@Seth ALL platforms? Even linux?

I don't think Linux was ever "officially" support. iirc it was just "here is a .jar, good luck". but yeah, even Linux, afaik.
Granted, any of this could change at a future date, but Microsoft isn't that daft.

Minecraft 2.0. Windows 9 only.
Minecraft: Now with In-App Purchases for items!
@Seth "Supported." As in, "Here is the download to version 1.4. We support that on Mac/Linux". Meanwhile, Windows gets 1.8, and XBOne gets 2.0

really, nothing has happened yet, and your continued bashing of everything even MS related is starting to wear on me.

@Seth Not everything. Office is pretty good.
So is Skype.

6:13 PM
ok, I'll give you those, but I'd appreciate it if you toned it down somewhat.
Once they actually do it, then we can all go all out :)

ok fine.

so, Utopic final beta is coming up next week.

great/
Any new features that are worth upgrading from 14.04 for?

yea, now we can really read about what is changing... instead of the current well if you install the xubuntu beta and run ubuntu-desktop it looks the same as 14.04

yeah almost time for the " 6 month shall I go for the new release" deliberation

6:21 PM
So, nothing new really?

not yet...

@Whaaaaaat Qt 5.3

@Rinzwind For Unity?

@Whaaaaaat Mir :=)

Oh. Mir.

Oli
6:22 PM
@Rinzwind It seems easier this time (vs 12.04-to-12.10)... Perhaps because I'm not on Ubuntu-proper any more...

@Whaaaaaat unity 8 :=)

Is Mir really worth it though?

@Oli yeah

anyway remember 14.04, they were changing small appearance things right up to the final wall paper geting moved a couple of pixels

Does it have good nVidia support at the least?

6:22 PM
new wallpapers is good enough for me.

14.10 will have systemd but not the default yet
OH and we will get click packages :)

so it is too early to tell if canonical developers were hiding anything away yet

click packages?

yeah that installation thingy on the phone will be ported to the desktop

oh. 14.10 is pretty much "Ubuntu Touch for Desktop".

6:24 PM
@Whaaaaaat you do realize you asked a dupe?
12
Q: What are Click packages?

Archisman PanigrahiI noticed that Ubuntu SDK recently had some updates and it installed a program named "Click". I would like to know what they are and how to use them. Also, would they make Debian packaging easier?

yes. why do we not implement a dupe flag in chat?
well, off to class to confuse everyone as to how I'm running Mac OS on a PC.
cya

@Whaaaaaat I don't think Unity 8 is really that ready yet.

2 hours later…
8:43 PM
Jorge is on air! ubuntuonair.com

9:34 PM
oh, a secret target for ubuntu touch: system-image.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch/utopic/krillin

9:52 PM
@Mateo krillin made me go here in my head youtube.com/watch?v=EZ9-1WD-rBA
@Whaaaaaat you really shouldn't do that. it's super-buggy.

hi @hbdgaf how is it going

more of the same. had a good for the store, bad for me, idea that got implemented... had a "my god what have i done" moment today.

a "you want to do... ok, we will let you, but you're doing all the work" type of thing?

not exactly. a "Well, you know, if you want to fix the grocery side outs, you have to run all the freight in the bins all at once. So it will be the whole store in grocery for a day. With a 'This is gonna suck' message to all the people that have shit in their own departments to do. Then you'll be over the hump and you can start fixing things." And the store manager smiles and says "I'm totally telling them this was your idea."... he didn't, but jesus, I had shit to do today.
Co-managers - one tier below store: Well, it is a good idea.
Assistants - two tiers below store: Well. I'm glad you said it.
Me: FML.

10:08 PM
@hbdgaf I think a lot were thinking more like:

^^ nice

10:53 PM
Hey @LuisAlvarado good to see you

Hi @Mateo, how are you?

OK, been better

@Mateo why is that?
@Mateo don't tell me you won the lottery and blew it on girls again

Had a cold or something, a lot of cold medicine an walking around the house in a superuser hoodie which came in the mail just in time to comfort me
And drinking tea out of my stackoverflow coding mug(even though the mug says to fill with coffee ;))

haha
well, I also have a cold, so does my wife

11:00 PM
@LuisAlvarado not this time...

I got more energy than an old broken remote control for black/white tvs
in costa rica nobody told me, hey dude, it rains 364 days a year!!
and sometimes the rain.. FOLLOWS YOU AROUND!!
I once caught it opening the 2nd floor window trying to get in

lol
Does it really rain that much there?

omg yes
it rains 10 months
not exaggerating, it actually rains from May to February
Only March and April get a bit of sunshine

That is a lot of rain.

and am from Venezuela, from a part that rains like 2 days a year

11:13 PM
ah, yes. lol.

so you can see why I spend more time sick with cold and stuff
