12:00 AM

lol. Well, in any case, I release it under GPL 3
so feel free

Is it just me or did I break the chat?
(again)
@chaskes lol

Just you I think

It is priceless to have a philosopher :)
Thank you Eric!

@Lucio or you broke your graphics on your machine ;) the guy is still going on mine

12:04 AM
hehe

@Lucio Just doin' me job. :)

*my ?

@Lucio ?

I mean, you said 'me job' but shouldn't it be 'my job'
or is it a jargon

Oh. Jargon to sound humorous. Like Popeye or Spongebob's boss: "Shiver me timbers".
Not like people from the north of England (say, John Lennon) who really say "me" for "my"
@hbdgaf I'm looking at that transformer listing. Wow. It's tempting
I've got my S10 already, but a 32gb ssd at that price?

12:16 AM
@chaskes correct. Good to know it :)

12:34 AM
I'm tired to explain the people what does the script does
Now I think Find&Replace wasn't so bad after all..
Would someone hate me if I rename it, its description and its documentation?
Kill it with fire: askubuntu.com/q/505222/62483

Are you sure it's a VB thing and not a trusty bug?
\o @Chan-HoSuh. Long time no see :)

Hi @Seth. Yeah. Been quite a while.

@Seth I won't test it using an buggy vm
if the user want help, he need to help us. How? Using something stable at least
Not that I'm considering Windows 7 stable ¬¬

ok, I think U1 is gone for sure now

12:49 AM
moment of silence

@chaskes and moment over, anyway - anything interesting?

hello

hi

Anything exciting going on in the world of Ubuntu?

@NoTime u1 is going down, spent the last hour off and on refreshing to see when my files would be gone

12:53 AM
@Mateo No, just the usual here

What are they planning on doing with the extra space they used? I never caught up with why they decided to stop it

@NoTime probally just save money by stopping to pay for it

They just decided it wasn't worth the effort to maintain when there were so many other services out there.

whops its not dead yet

They wanted to use those resources for other projects.

12:56 AM
Have they mentioned what the resources are going to be ?

no.. I doubt they really know themselves at this point.

Does the 12 image still ship with u1 in it still?
Just wondering because that was integrated a lot in the begining.

Very 90s era Microsoftian.

post 95?

they might have taken it from the images, don't know, but the cd I have will still have it ;)

1:00 AM
Yeah. Post 95

got a win98 laptop from someone, think it has like 64 meg of memory, wondering if i should try lubuntu on it

Heh

You probably want older kernal or heavy modified one

You can be like the guy that blends anything. Try Ubuntu on anything.

or maybe install this on it - hrwiki.org/wiki/Strong_Bad_Desktop_Theme

1:02 AM
I think you need to use the lubuntu alternative image

@Mateo You need a Compy

I used that on a IBM 600X Lubuntu worked ok on it

I just was wondering if some of the older devices would be supported
You could probably do core OS without desktop on almost any computer

If I remember right, lubuntu can run with 64mb, but it can't install with that little, so that's why you need the alternative installer
but as I think about it more, the alternative installer is pretty much what @NoTime is saying: you start with the minimal iso and add things from there.

So what do you suppose the minimum is to connect remotely to a workstation?

1:09 AM
for a no gui install?

Sorry, using a Remote Desktop

or like a vnc setup

Yeah

I don't want an OS that can't run on everything, I need to pull out my old Apple II and have it work. :) maybe I could write the kernal from the new free programming language Basic from this small company called Microsafe
oh I mean Microsoft
@Chan-HoSuh are you asking about minimum to do headless?

to show a desktop from another computer, like a thin-client right

1:13 AM
Yeah exactly

saw this about a raspberry pi shackspace.de/?p=3859

@mateo that is pretty awesome lol

Are they just remoting in?

some kind of KVM on a server
for a LSTP thin client
I made an icon for my program:
er, well... can't even get the theme to 98 it needs a driver for the usb...
well, new round of "Will it lubuntu" A Gateway SOLO 2150

1:44 AM
@Mateo nice!
sup @NoTime
@Mateo are you the responsible for the site's design?

nope

oh, heh

I'm not related to pedro the bear ;)

O.O
oh hehe
@Mateo If I do so, I would be able to call it Find&Replace. Because there would be a Find tool ;)
I'm looking forward to implement it!
Oh, I got something that you may like mateo

@Lucio yeah?

1:53 AM
Is there a private room for non-mods?

you can make one where only we talk, but everyone can still see

right
meh..

oh noes, kernel panics, not looking good on the gateway solo
lets try some boot options!

2:10 AM

lol, bios options had the option to specify the OS...

uefi bios is crappy for nerds. At least it is for me :S

well, I'm done for today, will have to try the minimal iso later

will you also go from here

on the life experience versus life experiences thing. it's on how you hear it. i hear life experience as a singular blob of all that crap people have to go hrough, while life experiences refer to several specific pieces of crap that amount to a particular culmination of experience. so if it's just crap in a pile that everyone goes through, it's life experience. if it's a couple or several specific issues that amount to passing a point then it's life experiences.

2:25 AM
got it

that's not oxford definition by any sense, it's just how i as a speaker hear it

:O
I thought you got it from Wikipedia

no
that's all my own words

Then, you should put it there.

i think i'll pass on a runon sentence blob that uses crap several times and tagging my name to i on wikipedia

2:29 AM
haha that sounds like a correct choice
And keeping this music talk.. today were 6 hours of jazz @ worck

my work has been... just bad... for weeks/months. i'll get over that hump i guess. it's just a useless exercise in fighting windmills mostly.
and it's time for a nap

sad to hear that

sad to do it, but i must. i slept through two hours of alarm last week on friday

it happened to me last friday, so..
lets see what happens tomorrow
I will be around at the morning
and my only advice...

Q: Changing the Java Runtime in NetBean 8 on Ubuntu 14.04

Vector(Not sure if this is the right site for this question - if not please migrate.) I am using Netbeans for C++ on Ubuntu 14.04. Ubuntu comes with the Open JDK Runtime, which is what Netbeans is currently using - see below: Product Version: NetBeans IDE 8.0 (Build 201403101706) Updates: NetBeans ID...

Ubuntu 14.10 Alpha 2 (Utopic Unicorn) Flavors Officially Released and Ready for Testing (Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, UbuntuKylin, and Ubuntu Cloud)

Why is removed from this question? (see:revisions)?

12:29 PM
@Pandya ask Braiam. And also ask Oli if he is starting an edit war with Braiam >:D @oli

Oli
Always.

LOL

Why is Braiam temporarily suspended for rule violations?

@KingShimkus if he is there will be NO discussion on that on Askubuntu Chat
it is considered a private matter

Okay, sorry.

12:34 PM
hey you can always ask ;-)
sometimes someone bites and you do get an answer _O-

Actually I do have a question...

@KingShimkus I cant answer "why is Oli a moderator" :=)
ask away ;-)
That's going to be a long question :P

So why is it that when you run some applications from the Terminal they run but you are not able to close the Terminal widow? For instance, if I type cairo-dock in the Terminal it runs/opens but when I close the Terminal window it exits/closes.
:)

put " &" behind the command ;)
Commands are run in a terminal unless you detach them. The ampersand at the end does that
if you also want to "deamonize" it (ie. remove any reference to the terminal it was started from) put "nohup " in front of the command :)

@Rinzwind Dude, you are awesome! Thanks so much for the tip!

12:43 PM
np! :)
there is more by the way

Go on. :)

naa
- see the 2 commands at the top that stop+restart a command
- see the disown option

Awesome. I most likely will make an alias in my .bashrc file...

@Rinzwind He won an election ;p
@Rinzwind: eh, sadly I don't know those, I usually just throw em in screen

@JourneymanGeek me too! screen is much more relax
@JourneymanGeek or did he bribe people? :=)

12:48 PM
What are you guys talking about? Screen?
I think I have heard of it before...

screen is basically an entire terminal session (or more) you can switch between or detatch

Downloading it now...

its usually preinstalled I thought?

it is

What version of Ubuntu are you guys running?

12:52 PM
>_>

6.06 8.04 12.04 and 14.04

I actually have no idea.

(all work related: 1st 3 are servers; last one is my desktop)

@JourneymanGeek Go to System Settings, then Details.
I am running 12.04 LTS.

@KingShimkus ehm he is talking about screen not the Ubuntu release

12:53 PM
@KingShimkus: I'm not actually at the system

Journeyman knows what OS he is running ;-)
@JourneymanGeek tsk!

my ubuntu box is neither seen nor heard ;p
I THINK its 13.04

:-) Sorry guys.

Not me. I am using the default.

I don't have icon themes
Yeah, 12.04

Do any of you have an Ubuntu phone? Or have at least checked one out?

they aren't released yet, but i tried ubuntu touch on a nexus 7

Did you like it?

yep, going to buy one when they come out

Where could I buy one when they come out? Thinking about getting one...

Depending on where you live, hopefully at a cell phone carrier near you.â„¢
In the US I know T-mobile and Verizon are supporting it.

6:41 PM
I'm watching the ubuntu home page, or searching for news about ubuntu every once in a while, they say they should be out by the end of the year. but the manufactures are supposed to be "bq" and "meziu" cnet.com/products/bq-aquaris-ubuntu-edition

Hopefully that is only the first two.

@Seth nah, it will probably be online unlocked first

Cool. Thanks guys.

@Mateo oh, yeah, that's true.

this is a video of last I used it on the nexus 7, but that was a old release, so there are tons of improvements:

6:45 PM
@Mateo Looks neat.
Is it still open-source?

the os yes, there are of course drivers for the hardware that won't be

Did I just see gnome-terminal? Does the phone have Terminal on it?

and it's what you would call a "full" linux kernel, aka the back end and terminal would work as expected as a linux desktop would
that is true convergence!

That is amazing!
Totally getting an Ubuntu phone when it comes out...

@Seth why you reopened this one? askubuntu.com/q/11317/169736
is not popular < 800 views
is too broad
heck, it has naa's askubuntu.com/a/11323/169736
"Blogilo" is twice
heck, was Luis that closed it
why?
it wasn't badly closed

it shows closed here, as of 17 minutes ago. so if you're showing reopened earlier than that, wait for cache to catch up

@hbdgaf I was thinking why the too broad close reason wasn't kept

pointing to a sort of answer is better than pointing to a wall. i've had this conversation before. let me find it

> asked 3 years ago
OP already got the answer he was looking for

9:13 PM
crap, it was even on your question on meta: meta.askubuntu.com/questions/11592/…

@hbdgaf s/question/answer/

there is no such thing as too many signposts to possibly good enough to help someone get what they need done done
@Braiam my bad. yes your answer

yeah, but a metric shit tons of duplicates isn't helpful either
10 % of our questions are duplicated, I think we need to stare very hard before pointing to a duplicated

it's better than a wall, unless you're on a delete all the things kick. i'm more comfortable with loads of garbage questions pointing to good data until we reach a point where the duplicates distract you from where you're trying to go.

@hbdgaf I assure you that if people still keep posting duplicates is because they are not finding what they are looking for, there's a meta Q supporting this view: I agree with Braiam here, these duplicates provide no value. They only make it difficult to find proper answers. Such questions still hitting the site should be an indicator that proper information is still difficult to find.

9:18 PM
sort of, but there is a counterpoint, that more dupes will serve as better search terms and steer them there. unless the askers are just lazy

"unless the askers are just lazy" the asker is lazy to: 1- search the question 2- writing a proper question
I don't think laziness should be rewarded
@hbdgaf again a metric shit tons of duplicates isn't helpful either
the "shit" is referring to crappy questions

you can't fix stupid. you just try to help the ones that use the search box

@hbdgaf I agree, but sometimes is just so depressing to read those questions

9:55 PM
What text editor do you guys use? I myself use Sublime Text.

nice webpage bro

Who?

you

Oh my online Text Editor?
Thanks man!

the css fetched late for me, so i got hello world xml and a styled thing later on css application though... so you might want to look at not loading dom elements via JS until after the CSS loads

10:04 PM
Thank you for your feedback. I will get right on that!

it was just a thought.

@KingShimkus Komodo Edit and Geany mainly. Notepad++ on windows. Looking forward to atom.io. Sublime isn't bad.

I like ST. I haven't used Komodo as much as I should. Better code completion from what I hear, but it is still a blob I have to accept or not. And ST is more neutral to me.

When I was using Windows I love Komodo. It was my one of my favorites. SO was Notepad++

My 2 cents was spoken. I'm done talking about it.

10:11 PM
Komodo has amazing code completion, that is true. And I have never heard of ST. I will check it out.

SublimeText. you asked about it.
in other news... no wait... just topic change please.

Oh, I feel stupid now... I have never someone call Sublime ST
Okay.

The other day I actually went to use Windows Briefcases only to find they had removed them in Windows 8 lol.
@Braiam If you look at it, you will notice I re-closed it with a better (proper) close reason ;)

@Seth I'm not in that discussion, I already made my points for the related material

@hbdgaf yep, saw that.
