Word of the day:
A piconet is a network that is created using a wireless Bluetooth connection. A piconet consists of two or more devices occupying the same physical channel (synchronized to a common clock and hopping sequence). Some examples of piconets include a cell phone connected to a computer, a laptop and connected to Bluetooth-enabled digital camera, or several PDAs that are connected to each other. A piconet computer network linking a wireless user group of devices using Bluetooth technology protocols. It allows one master device to interconnect with up to seven active slave devices. Q: How do I create a utility USB?

MewI do a lot of work with many different bootable images all on different flash drives. However, it gets annoying to search for a specific drive, plug it in, and use it. Is there a way I can consolidate all of my tools on to one large USB drive? I should be able to select what tool. Because some ...

Q: Stripped lines in Ubuntu 14.04

SalmanI have just installed Ubuntu 14.04 64bit yesterday in my PC. But today, desktop turned into striped lines many times and I had nothing to do except pressing the power button on CPU. Don't know why this is happening, which application is causing this. I installed ubuntu using this ISO "ubuntu-14.0...

HTML6 - The Spec That Brings Us Freedom - I'm not to fond of this HTML6 spec.

I don't think that's a real spec
its one guy's view of it

@JourneymanGeek It's not a real spec. But, i don't like that guys view of it...
Aw yeah, my website now has a custom(working) scrollbar: EuroBytes.

8:25 AM
@blade19899 Your top button is kinda unfriendly.
@blade19899 Also, your CSS is no longer valid
@blade19899 HTML5 also seems to be invalid.

@Whaaaaaat My login button?

@blade19899 the return to top button
you have no idea what it does until you click on it. Add a up arrow or the word "top" maybe?

@Whaaaaaat Kinda right there. I taught making it look like a bullet and pointing it up, was enough to let people know, it was to go up.
But, arrow up, doesn't sound like a bad idea.

That bullet design just seems awkward and strange. Not used anywhere else.

@Whaaaaaat Thats why i made it. Because it was 'unique' :)

8:34 AM
@blade19899 Unique sometimes isn't good. It confused the hell out of me. Sites should be easy to use.
Not, "Oh, hey! I've never seen this button before. What's it do?"

@Whaaaaaat Agree. Next version has an arrow up.
@Whaaaaaat Will check the css, whenever i get change to.
@Whaaaaaat HTLM5 is not valid, because i have the login button with the ID: "LOGIN" twice inserted. Duplicates ID are not allowed. I must of forgotten it, in there. Will remove one of the two, when i get the chance.

yay. happy website :D

lol.
I'm gonna ad a Privacy Policy page on my website, later on. Just have to figure out, what kinda features i implemented :/
I have been toying with it for so long, i can't remember everything i built in XD

@Oli Can you take a shot at my question if you're knowledgeable on the subject matter? My question is How Can I Run an Shell Script With .desktop Config File?

Oli
@CheddieMerai Is your .desktop file marked executable?
And is your script also marked executable?
And your script needs a shebang on the first line. Something like #!/bin/sh

@blade19899 for the record, I've force-installed skype...

@FlorianMargaine Sounds like a bug, someone forgot to add a dependency. If you want to be nice, you could report it.

Hello guys! I'm having a slight problem here with Ubuntu 14.04 (not specific though, I think). I've just finished making all the Zentyal packages for armhf, and want to make them available in a repo for myself (easier install), but I can't figure out how to add virtual packages with reprepro...
Of course I've googled the issue, but there seems to be nobody who wants virtual packages at all - there were no results to the near dozen search expressions I've used in the past hour.
Is the only solution manually adding the packages?

@fonix232 I don't know, but it sounds like a perfect question for the site. Why not ask it?

I'm actually wording the question right now :)

Q: Virtual packages with reprepro?

fonix232I have been working on making Zentyal packages possible on the armhf architecture, and finally succeeded in a working build of 4.0 packages. :)
how is it going @Lucio

hi Mateo
I want to install Ubuntu on a USB stick

going to use it on the go?

on the college
it is fully of windows and we are starting Django classes. To reduce the pain I will boot on that

amazon.com/dp/B008S4XY08 <makes the computer think it is a cd drive, will boot straight iso's

6:01 PM
that is a sexy solution

It's pretty much unnecessary on new systems (anything made after 2002 running BIOS has a 99% chance of booting from USB)
Besides there's a better software solution for that which does not require a 99$ USB stick

unless you don't want to convert iso's, or don't use all linux cd that make it posible to boot that way...

Mateo, actually the Multi-ISO boot USB makes it possible to boot ANY kind of ISO that has valid boot code. I even managed to boot OS X from it

so, anyway. It might not be worth the money for you, but if cd booting is enabled, and you can't get to the bios to change it to usb boot, it might.

even in that case, a Hiren Boot CD is a cheaper solution ;)

6:07 PM
but not a sexy solution ;)

so I wouldn't call it "useless", it has a purpose, and throw money into the wind - it might even be easier.

@terdon heh, looks like I can't

easier ~= cheaper

@FlorianMargaine Ah well. Kudos for trying though :)

microsoft... what did you expect anyway

6:13 PM
@FlorianMargaine something small and fluffy!! :=)

@FlorianMargaine they probably want you using their own support site: support.skype.com

@Mateo it's just a FAQ
unless I don't know how to use it

there is a "get more help" link...

I should get the ubuntu wiki to be updated so

but I'm sure they will put you through to someone that is ready to handle windows problems before you can get to someone technical to actually report

didn't they take pre orders this time around?

@NathanOsman "unlimited music" followed by "for 6 months" seems a contradiction to me :P

@Rinzwind I bet it doesn't even apply to existing customers, like me :P

6:22 PM
@NathanOsman ofcourse! you need to pay 9.99 a month

@Rinzwind as much music as you can use in 6 months, if you a time traveller you can take maximum advantage of that

@Mateo that is not unlimited :-)

@Rinzwind It's $7.99 here.

@NathanOsman cheapskate! :=)

although, it might get suspicious, when an unlimited number of you tries to use the service at the same time ;)

6:24 PM
It won't work.
If you try to play on a second device, it's stops playing on the first.

@NathanOsman is that the new microsoft slogan?

so, the original will get random disconnects :(
@NathanOsman intresting the transfer rate seems one sided right now

You guys are paying $9.99/m in the US?

so, quite a deal for you no matter how you look at it

A: How to make Foobar2000 see the CD drive?

WhaaaaaatWhy is cdda://sr0/ not a good mounting point to be set in Wine configs? CDDA is not a filesystem. It's a specific protocol for reading and writing data to/from CD drives. Think of CDDA like an http:// for CD drives. You can't use HTTP for Wine because it's not a local part of a file system. CD...

Cool beans. I tend to hyperfocus on a game until I play it ALL THE WAY through a couple of times.
@Oli - I was reading your blog a little and almost ressed an ancient ffmpeg post with a comment.
What about using update-alternatives or similar to "toggle" the available objects? Or making libav - the current player - to grab the shared object names and force ffmpeg only apps that hard depend on having the actual ffmpeg objects use LD_PRELOAD in their launchers to take that whole bit of nastiness out of the "I hate managing this problem" logic tree?

I'll still be playing bl2, just hit a thought it was almost over - but was just the halfway mark need an interlude on playing point

Hah. Totally understand. As a completionist player, I sort of need to play it through. Then play it through on vaulthunter mode. Then tick all the accomplishments. Play it at least on basic mode as every class. And play it one final time with all the perks/awesome that comes with having totally nuked the game and having all the bonus stacks that you get for doing so....

This is a very detailed answer, but unfortunately it does not work with Ubuntu 14.04. For some reason qemu fails and the installation process aborts. — Luís de Sousa Aug 28 at 19:15

> Starting init: /bin/sh exists but couldn't execute it

9:46 PM
@badp I've done it before, but it involved installing manually using the RAW mount type and installing grub as you would expect. You have to tweak it to use disklabels to boot instead of UUIDs since the QEMU instance looks different than the hardware you're sticking it in to and the UUIDs will be different.
Yeah... UUIDs seem like awesome magic, but they break portability for USB stuff (or they used to)

Sorry, I just found out that two people on my facebook friends list probably died. I didn't go to their houses or anything, but we talked some. So it's sort of a thing. I know they're humans from my degree of separation. So, I may be a little out of sorts.

@hbdgaf oooh, material design-y hamburger icon up there

@hbdgaf sorry to hear that.

@NathanOsman happens. doesn't compare to some other things I've heard in my life, but it's still a pretty horrible thing to hear.
like a "thanks for screwing up every positive memory i had of that person and trying to restore every negative memory i had blacked out" sort of thing.
so... not something to talk about. moving on.

On the bright side, the Vivid phone image is up.
Anyone using Ubuntu Touch should update.
And I also noticed that we now have autocomplete for chat on mobile.

What was the update PSA about, a bug/security thing?
@hbdgaf someone I know is into data mining, you might get along, or there might be interest in your projects, I might be able to introduce via e-mail if you want.
@NathanOsman OK, I'll be rebooting then ;)
