12:00 AM
i'm trying to install 12.04 on my macbook pro of half 2010
i created the partition with the utility disk (50gb)
i'm running now ubunto by the dvd
ubuntu
but when i click on the install icon and i get trough the process I get to a place where there should be 3 options (replace mac with ubuntu, install ubunutu alongside with mac and something else)
but i only get 2: replace or something else
what should i do now?

does it see your mac partitions? could be an issue with your virtualization software i don't have a mac to test

yes, it sees a partition which is 49000 ca mb big

okay, what is the something else option

which i think it's the right partition
in the something else it shows me the partions of the hard disk and at the end there a button...
how can I make a screenshot?

it's hard in boot-loaders/os installation. i know what you mean now that i think about it
if you use the manually partition option, it should work fine

12:04 AM
but i'm a newbit at this things, could you help me out at this point?
i think that after that step i'll be good

i'll have to install a clean vm. it'll take some time. drop a question on-site and we'll see what happens

i've already did about 6 hours ago and i'm still waiting for a proper answer :(

then drop a link in chat

could I just show you a screenshot?
then if you say you don't know what to do i'll keep hoping for an answer on the stack exchange site
i'll promise i'll not bother you anymore then

oh. you didn't drop a question on AU or askdifferent
checked profile

12:07 AM
i dropped a question on askubuntu...

i stand corrected. i thought 101 was indicative of i haven't posted anything
upvoted to fix that

i'll post a picture in few minutes

good idea. i'm not sure how much i'll be able to help since i can't accurately test, but i can try

here we go, and thankk
sorry, it's half italian: tipo = type, formattare? = shall i format?, dimension = size, utilizzato = occupied

it's fine. i can almost understand any latin based language post

12:14 AM
it's a 250GB hard disk and I partitioned 50GB for ubuntu

jrg
A MB is a MB, no matter what language it's in. ;)

;)

lol
i would go with add partition and make it root, forget about swap(it will probably complain that you did so) and install grub to sdax

sdaxy?

jrg
^^ this looks good.
@Jeffrey the /dev/sda thing at the bottom (ATA Toshiba Drive)

12:15 AM
it's one of the few cases when i say don't install to sda...

jrg
Wait - so you're saying @aking1012 that he should install to sda-somethingelse?

sdax

isn't sda4 the one I should use?

sda5 in this case
possibly sda6 after you fix for extended

so I should add a partition?

12:17 AM
i would

why is that so? i've already created the partition for ubuntu on Mac OS X... the sda4 would be unused then... is it?

oh...then it's showing as hfs. ubuntu partitions should be ext-something

great...
and there's no way to change it?

you could from the linux side, but idk how to do that from the mac side i don't have one and i don't want to give you directions to break your stuff

that's fine
i think i'm f..ked any way

12:22 AM
i doubt it. it's solvable. i just don't have the hardware to give you good directions

i think i'll have to delete the partition i created (if it's even possible) and create a new one...
i'll try with the answer they game me which is hard for me to follow because i'm not experienced enough

i would just edit the partition type in fdisk and format, but i can't tell you to do that without something to test it on

ok, what does "Start Gparted" means in the contest of the answer they game me?

sudo apt-get install gparted && sudo gparted

jrg
It's on the liveCD - just search for it.

12:25 AM
oh yeah, i found it

@jrg orly? nice. i didn't know since it's not stock on a full install

jrg
@aking1012 I wish it was on a full install, but nnnnooooo. "We have to be user friendly". :P

installs less than it has on the livecd...makes no sense...smh

so following the answer i should just go to the Gparted stuff thing and re begin from there right? I think the first part (the partion of the mac and the "try live" is what brought me here right now)...

i would look at changing sda4 to ext4. but again, i can't touch your setup and editing the partition table can result in REALLY BAD THINGS that i'm not prepared to deal with in chat

12:28 AM
oh...
you are actually scaring me...

that's the idea
it can break your stuff, so i can't tell you to do it in good conscience without something to test it on or touching the box
hope that makes sense

allright so i should just drop the idea of installing ubuntu today and wait for more answers on my (basically buried) question...
if the alternative is break stuff... yeah, i think that's the plan...

it got a vote from me, so it should rise in activity

thanks for you help any way :)

12:33 AM
I will have to take my website down for a few minutes later to convert the MyISAM tables to InnoDB.
I don't think MyISAM supports foreign key constraints.

12:45 AM
good morning

lollerskates

mark whalberg?

jrg
who wait what?

12:50 AM

@jrg that photo

jrg
ah.

jrg
I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be seeing

I added the 'license' line under the app description.
And if you refresh the page, there is now a downloads tab.
I plan to organize the page a little bit differently soon.

1:01 AM
/me is pleased. i just found the only possible use case for antivirus. download of source from unknown mirrors and scanning for the win

Does this page look alright? Eventually I'm going to group by OS.

jrg
1:28 AM
looks good to me

I don't feel the need to open a question about this, however, how can I run a command on startup?

izx
@Flabricorn Asked and answered, I believe...

you can create a script and set it to run on startup

izx
Hi @msPeachy, is your drive doing OK these days?
