@GeorgeEdison no rush, I was just wondering if you had forgotten the tag

Gimp keeps crashing.. desmond.yfrog.com/Himg859/… this is the best I could do all considering.

@rlemon It's not Ask Ubuntu, just Ubuntu :) These are ads to promote community (Ubuntu) related things

@OctavianDamiean Much better than the other way around

damn... let me get out my whiteout

That's a pretty sweet screen capture program you've got :)

8:04 PM
@Gigili Indeed! :)

@MarcoCeppi it's epic - called 'blackberrycameratotwittertoyfrogtoyou' - i'll work on getting you the charm.

jrg
I like this.

@rlemon you can do:
ubucon @ scale10x
basically cut the top off

yea i will likely have fun with that tonight

There's a charm for that.™
5

wasted too much work time already

actually, they would probably love a normal scale ad too

That's all work is for: Wasting time :)

I prefer to waste time writing charms :P

8:10 PM
awww yeah
so hey
I got a pic of the mugs

@MarcoCeppi that isn't a waste of time. Writing Perl is a waste of time.

user image

you can write charms in perl!

@JorgeCastro that looks exactly like the travel mugs :)

@JorgeCastro i'll take 2

You can write charms in practically any language.
I use a lot of PHP glue-code in mine.

8:13 PM
we need studly python charms

meh

@JorgeCastro You can't sneak into the Millbank office and get me such a nice white-background orange-logo cup next time you are there?
Man I wish they'd sell those too.

jrg
@OctavianDamiean i was about to ask him the same thing. ;D

do you guys like the other ones better?

Which ones?
Orange-background and white-CoF?

Q: Enable wifi on my computer - firmware missing

SarahI am attempting to set up a wireless network on 11.04, freshly download today. The router is on and working. However, I do not have a wifi "card" (which I am assuming is a little USB-type thing that allows internet access, but correct me if I am wrong) and every time I try to type in the MAC addr...

@JorgeCastro I want 5 of those plz

mm, both are pretty sexy

@JorgeCastro I have one of those and they are awesome but I want the other design as well.

jrg
@JorgeCastro That looks pretty, but I'd prefer the other one.
I mean, it's nice, but it's not my style. shrug

@OctavianDamiean free mugs comes with charms

jrg
8:17 PM
@JorgeCastro seriously?

White mugs for Charms?

@OctavianDamiean those looked Gimped
nah, travel mugs.
you guys didn't think I wouldn't get ya nothing would you?

Awesome as well. :D
gets back to his charm

jrg
I just have to iron out this bug first...

I swear to god. If I ever get the chance to visit the Canonical office I'll so get one of those white mugs. :D

8:19 PM
Finally a worthwhile use for my UserScript:

@OctavianDamiean I bet those are gimped!

No no, they aren't.
Mark said they are real but they are only for the Millbank office.

OHRLY.

﴾͡๏̯͡๏﴿

Maybe he made a joke and I didn't get it but yea.

8:21 PM
(Guess where that came from :P)

I keep checking the door every 20 minutes
my asus transformer gets here today

You won't regret the decision to buy it!

@MarcoCeppi oh hey, I suppose now I should test your charm?

is a happy Asus Transformer owner

also guys
kapil is going to make README parse on the charm browser, like github does it
so we'll need to go back and add README.md or whatever works for you to each one.

8:23 PM
PLEASE TELL HIM TO MAKE IT READ MARKDOWN! OMG!!!

jrg
MAKRDOWN PLEASSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Tell him, if he does, he'll get a huge beer and a hug from me next UDS!

of course, README.md is markdown

Awesome.

Stack Overflow has a rather nifty way of specifying a hyperlink in a safe manner. As an example, take the text from bug 391777; on SO the following snippet would be written thus: Upstream has been notified of the bug and [fixed it][1] in the [git tree][2]. Attached is a debdiff to fix this issue in Ubuntu 9.04, which I have personally tested and verified that it works. This change will be in libwnck that is distributed with GNOME 2.28, but it would be nice if this change is also applied and released in Ubuntu 9.04 with GNOME 2.26. At the end of the text with the links in it are the link definitions: [1]: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=586571 [2]: http://git.gnome.org/cgit/libwnck/commit/?id=703919ef4bda4e6fb9e60a4df7bd149a056b42ed The parser would then change the text in the paragraph to have hyperlinks for HTML views, and preserve the real text for plain-text representations such as email messages/notifications. This would make it possible to do things such as make

Martin Pool for the win

8:25 PM
I mean I knew that .md means markdown but that doesn't mean that it has to parse markdown.

Can you answer this? Internet Download speed decreases over wifi http://askubuntu.com/questions/83459/internet-download-speed-decreases-over-wifi #wireless

jrg
That bug affects me so much.

YES YES YES YES!!

almost ready!

This day is full of epic win.

8:26 PM
I know right

The world would be a better place if every site used Markdown.
4
I found myself doing **some text** on G+ yesterday.

wiki and forums
are all I have left
G+ supports sort of markdown

Well we could just kill the forums.

@JorgeCastro "Sort of" being the key word here.

8:28 PM
@JorgeCastro go for it: lp:~marcoceppi/charm/oneiric/phpmyadmin/trunk

mysql is up to date now iirc?

I even made a video for it and have a blog post waiting by for publishing when it's ready
@JorgeCastro Correct

!!!
also I realized something today when we blog a charm
remember google words

google for
do "install minecraft server ubuntu" in google

8:30 PM
Sweet
If you notice in the video you can relate wordpress to mysql and phpmyadmin to mysql without specifying the relationship anymore :)

<3
@MarcoCeppi is your bug marked with new-charm?

@JorgeCastro Yes, and it was reviewed by Mark
It's got a few things I need to look into, they didn't like that it didn't use the phpMyAdmin package
Formula needed phpmyadmin. This is to provide a management webUI for a mysql instance
juju Charms Collection
Wishlist / In Progress

ah ok
perhaps make it a config option
and default to the distro package
but make it a config option to snag the pure upstream stable release

That's what I'm doing, but I need to get around an issue with debconf and phpMyAdmin

Ok, no Charm today, way too bad headache.
heads off to bed

8:34 PM
hey wait!
when we go to budapest

how many locals would come to a charm school do you think?
or should we just plan to hang out with you?

Well I'll be there but I'm not sure how the Hungarian community is like.

ok
lmk

I might even get Daniel (the Austria LoCo Leader) to join but I'm not sure if he'll have the time.

8:36 PM
because if there's interest I can get us a room

I can ask the Hungarian LoCo team if you want.

we'll be doing all work stuff all week there but if people want some charm trainin' we can definately do that.

Oh the sprint is an entire week?
What is even more interesting for me is when it is going to be cause I'll have to undertake a nose surgery soon-ish.

let me get the dates
9-13 January

Alright. I have to book the room then. Where is it going to be?
Also, I have to organize a GPS till then, last time I took a few wrong turns on my way home and ended up in the middle of nowhere in Hungary at night. :D

8:41 PM
same place

corinthia grand hotel royale
with cheese
pick a day first
before you book anything
I need to clear it with someone since these aren't usually open to the public.

Uhm, what do you mean?

but we can schedule something

doesn't really know anything about sprints

8:42 PM
we basically just work
there's no sessions or anything like that

a code-in? :P

Oh so an open-end session so to say. :D
That sounds like fun.

yeah
but they're not open usually.
but we could do where like one day we have a charm school
and of course, hanging after hours. :)

I see.
Cool.

jrg
so it's a week of "plug in, crank it to eleven"?

8:44 PM
Why don't you just label 11 as "10" on the amp?

Alright, so for me it would be one day actually, if I understand you right.

jrg
@MarcoCeppi don't make it so simple that I can understand it - I like a little complexity. ;P

@OctavianDamiean yeah

let me run it by robbie and stuff though
so we can prepare

8:46 PM
Alright.

and you don't like walk into a business meeting with mark or something accidentally
"lol I am looking for charm school!"

heh
That wouldn't be good, indeed.

@MarcoCeppi where does ch_get_file come from in your charm?

You know what? That is perfect!
I'll organize the Ubuntu meetup right after I got back from Budapest.
That way I can hold a mini-Charm School if there are enough people.

@BrunoPereira Ah, Charm Helpers It's why I branch charm-tools and source charm-tools/helpers/sh/net.sh in the first few lines of env/common in my charms

8:50 PM
@MarcoCeppi I c, thx

I really need to move env/common to lib/common.sh env is the wrong naming scheme for that
What should we do about this.

Q: Bypassing Vista

BrendaMy son has a downloaded copy of Ubuntu that he uses to "break" into my computer, bypassing Vista. I have two questions: Can this damage my computer or corrupt my files? (I have lots of pictures) Is there a way for me to block this disc from working as there are strict rules in our house for usa...

jrg
tempted to downvote because it stifles the guys creativity. :P

lol been reading this question since y'day night

jrg
(i'm joking of course - it's a good question)
Parenting.se should handle it, or perhaps security, since it's not really about Ubuntu, it's more about A. parents doing weird things and B. security.

haha

hahahaa

9:11 PM
@wisemonkey: "The ntfs-3g driver is an open source, GPL licensed, third generation Linux NTFS driver which was implemented by the Linux-NTFS project."

@MarcoCeppi I got an install error

Hello again, anyone who has time please take a look at this site : fotoquelle.de
I need to know if you know of another website which has things like that
I really appreciate your help
It prints your photo on stuff like teddy bear and send it as a gift to whoever you say

@MarcoCeppi mkdir -p tmp meta is creating the directories really a necessary step? (you are missing wget in your dependencies :))

9:28 PM
@BrunoPereira wget is already installed on the images

@MarcoCeppi I had to install it or it would fail on my charm, yours is returning "/var/lib/juju/units/phpmyadmin-0/charm/hooks/install: 1: wget: not found"

Oh, jezze!
Sorry about that, let me push up a quick fix :)

(there is no file to check if the file is not getting downloaded, aborting!) :D

@BrunoPereira @JorgeCastro Try again, I've pushed an update to the charm.
you may need to destroy / re-bootstrap the environment as upgrade-charm doesn't work well on charms whos installs failed

tell me about it!

9:35 PM
Pro-tip, if you upgrade the charm prior to destroying the service it'll upgrade the bootstrap node :) (though it'll complain about it)

jrg

Q: Why can't I upgrade my kernel via the terminal?

AlvarIf I type sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade I can only see that the kernel packages are kept back, and not installed. As the screenshot shows. If I then start the update manager I can install the kernel, with no problems at all. As the second screenshot shows. Why is this?

help me close my own question
it's a dupe and I was the first to close vote it.

mine is less than urs so I think I can't?

@MarcoCeppi noticed now, thanks :)

We have an average response time of 4 hours, but these last few days have been busy

@MarcoCeppi I think it's more around 12 hours..
but that might be that my time is off..

10:01 PM
@Alvar The site keeps track of our turn around time

@MarcoCeppi you should have a mod in CET! ;)
ok...
just finished switching a tube on my bike
I switched to a thin tire (600x23 28") and jumped of a curve and smashed the new tube

We have a pretty good spread with EST, Germany, and England I'm up way too late and Stefano seems to be up early
Some sites have mods that are US only :)

so I had to switch back to the 3 year old tire :P
@MarcoCeppi doh, I forgot stefano is in CET xD
@MarcoCeppi damn US you are the center of everything...
I like working on my bike more than I like writing code :(

while u r at it can u guys close this one as well
