so Fabs can't be used to treat viral infections...
@Chris correct?

12:27 AM
hello @MattDMo ...

12:59 AM
@MattDMo u available?

1:56 AM
If anyone has a minute and a neuroscience background, can you give this chat convo a quick look over? I want to make sure I'm not doing a horrible job and misleading this user
It's been a while since I studied neuro

@Luigi are you available?
@MattDMo are u available?

@mods Does a chat remain saved so that it can be used as a reference in a question

12:02 PM
Depends, if enough people talked there, they are kept forever

@MadScientist Okay.. and is it possible to invite people to a room other than by declaring in the common room?
and how to rename a room that is automatically created by clicking "lets extend this in chat" comment

@WYSIWYG You can invite people with a button on their chat profile
Renaming is something room owners and mods can do, you should be able to do it if you created the room

Who is the owner of the "lets move this discussion to chat" rooms?

I think the user that presses the button first, or maybe both, not sure
If you need that for a specific room, I can always change owners

well.. I am thinking of making this room for speculative answers for a question that I am planning to ask

 Long axons vs serial neurons

Imported from a comment discussion on biology.stackexchange.co...
@MadScientist Please feel free to post your opinions too.
@MadScientist thanks..

12:17 PM
@WYSIWYG you should be able to edit the name now

yep.. thanks changed the name

1:10 PM
@MadScientist Is there a way to know if someone is maliciously downvoting

@wy

@WYSIWYG Users are pretty much free to vote how they want, unless they target specific users. There are tools to detect vote fraud and revenge voting, but we can't see individual votes

@WYSIWYG votes are anonymous but the system can pick up serial voting if a user is downvoting a lot of your posts. See this Meta.SE question

Someone downvoted this question. I didn't expect a downvote.
Do you sense anything downvotable in this.. there are pathetic questions with upvotes

Not sure why. But as Mad Scientist said, people are pretty much free to vote how they want

1:18 PM
@MadScientist this happened with another question(s) too. It was not such a great question but not a bad one either. And someone downvotes after several months since it was asked. Since I have not asked many questions there cannot be a large sample for detection
It doesn't affect my reputation or the importance of the question much but there is something wrong going on in the community and this should not happen.
may be someone is pissed of with me for closing questions

If you think someone is dovnvoting you (without the system noticing) you can notify the mods.

@Chris i just did :)

That is a single vote, I really wouldn't worry about this. If there was a bigger pattern, I would be able to see it

Not such a huge problem for me too.. you know what i am talking about right
i feel there is a vengeful sheep :P
@Chris hey you need not neutralize those votes now ;)
its fine.. vote if you feel so.. just science no democracy :P

1:42 PM
I've thrown in some upvotes for you Wysiwyg - slowly pushing some users to the 20000+ points barrier

oh @GriffinEvo so that is you..
thanks

ha
sudden burst of points?

but do it only if you really feel so.
as I said: just science, no politics :)

I think its good to get some users rep up high so we are better able to self moderate post graduation, plus I'm not very frequent with my upvotes so a concious effort should make me more prone to doing so!

@WYSIWYG I only upvote when I think the question or answer is worth it. So don't worry.

1:46 PM
well.. if you say so.. I also dont upvote much. I should do that too.

Do I trigger the vote fraud bot by upvoting a number of different users in a relatively short time?

Just to remind everyone, upvote good posts, not specific users
6

Yep. Things that are good. Nothing else

yeah same here. I have upvoted very few. I think I'll upvote obscure good answers

yes - this 'strategy' is only a very small number of my votes, and is dependent on quality of the material

1:53 PM
gtg for a moment

So, I have a question that I'm concerned may or may not be applicable to this site. It would be great to get some feedback as to whether it is considered "within bounds", totally bullshit, or even easily answered. I'd say it almost fits "about the biological mechanisms behind medical conditions" (from the topic help site), although there is no medical condition related, besides life itself..

Here goes:
"When my head is below water and I clench the muscles in either my jaw or hand (and keeping the hand close to one ear) I get a vibrating sound. I'm curious of what makes this sound. I'm certain that I'm not "hearing things", as when I move the clenched fist to the other ear, the sound travles with it."

4:32 PM
@WYSIWYG Here is a question you could answer: biology.stackexchange.com/questions/17576/…

5:16 PM
101 career helpful flags... on my way to biology.stackexchange.com/help/badges/76/marshal
it's not really a badge I want, I'd rather we never had to flag.

@Chris ..Ok I'll address it soon

GriffinEvo: This month is extreme, I have stopped counting but I am somewhere between 25 and 30 accepted flags. I would prefer if we didn't need them, too.

@HenningKlevjer personal experiences cannot be asked as a question because they can be opinion based. If you cite some reference that says that this feeling is universal and also supply some more scientific details then this question is on topic

5:54 PM
@WYSIWYG Yeah, you're right. Thanks.

no prob :)
@HenningKlevjer but nothing wrong in being curious.. try finding it out
if you end up with a doubt about a phenomenon then ask
