I often buy stuff in owner-run businesses that accept credit cards. To get a rebate I want to offer them to pay cash, not by credit card, and ask them reduce the amount by the credit card charge.
To be good in my negotiation I need to know what charges apply to
American Express
Visa
Mastercard...
This question is off-topic on Lifehacks, since you're just looking for the charges made by various credit cards. That isn't a lifehack, and is just information. — Wipqozn1 min ago
@ZachSaucier I'm not surprised. It looked as if you stopped using the site the past few days.
At first I thought it was a joke question like the one about hiding bodies. I didn't vote on it, but I could see people downvoting based on that assumption. meta.lifehacks.stackexchange.com/questions/1326/…
Anything R-rated is off-topic
I think this falls under "Be nice". Why should we be okay with trying to offend people?
One bad apple spoils the bunch. If this type of question becomes commonplace (even if uncommon), there are many users (including myself, to be honest) that will leave the site.
Additionally, if we end up having a [sex] tag or some other tag that some people are uncomfortable with, they can choose to ignore it by editing their "favorite tags" on the homepage. — ShokhetJan 1 at 19:55
@apaul34208 FYI, if you paste the link into chat, the comment will print by itself, with a link to the comment in situ. Like this:

@Mooseman I doubt it will become that common/accepted... As long as the questions aren't malicious or deliberately crude I don't have a problem with them.
@apaul34208 No problem. Also FYI, if you want to respond to a specific comment, you can click on the bent arrow at the end of the message. This makes conversations easier to follow.
@Shokhet That reminds me... The whole reason I started chatting was that it seems like there's more discussion and decisions being made in chat than on the Meta site. It would probably be good to move some of these discussions there.
@apaul34208 I agree. My medical question, for example, started in chat, but I deliberately moved it to Meta for that reason. Site policy decisions belong on Meta, because it's easier to reach consensus that way, besides for the fact that it's just so much more accessible.
....do you think there's information that can be found here, now, that isn't on Meta yet?
@Shokhet Probably not worth digging through, but stuff like the scope discussion that Gilles brought up... I think he added his point of view to Meta already.
@Shokhet The main reason I would like to see more meta discourse is that it is more inclusive and the record sticks around, so it can be easily referenced later.
It's fine to use chat to discuss site policy, you just need to make sure you get stuff to meta too.
Chat can be a lot better for discussing policy than meta is. That's one of the reasons you'll get a prompt now if two users go back and forth in comments for a while.
@apaul34208 Sure, but but I'm not suggesting we do it all on chat or all on meta.
Look at the sex taboo question. If mooseman and zach both argued about it in here a lot, then we'd still make a meta about it and they could (and should) have both mad the psots they did.
It's just that after discussing it they may have fleshed out their views more, and would have posted an even stronger initial post then if they just went straight to meta.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that chat is a great place for fleshing out your ideas/views/stance/ before going to meta with them.
@Wipqozn I agree. But @apaul34208 is also right that chat shouldn't be the end of the discussion -- Meta is also important because it's easier to find stuff, and it's also a lot more accessible.
That's true, but I think some ideas get shot down in chat that would be valuable on meta. Even a bad idea is worth making note of, if for nothing else than a sort of "ya, we thought about that and it didn't work because..."
@apaul34208 A lot of people are scared of downvotes. For example, I think a lot of people might have deleted this answer, but I decided to keep it because it's a record that the community considered and rejected the idea.
@apaul34208 Nothing wrong posting an idea brought up and shot down in chat to meta as well. Not so much because it documents that we discussed this, but so other users can weigh in.
There's a user on Arqade who deletes her posts whenever they get downvoted, including on meta, it's really annoying. It results in people not seeing the full picture, which isn't helpful.
@Mooseman This si clogging up comments, but I still don't understand why you're asking me that. My statement comment makes nothing about numbers or anything like that. What I'm saying is that asking a question which offends someone does not mean you're trying to offfend someone.
Trying to offend would mean you're asking with the intent to cause offense, but just asking a question about sex (offensive or not) doesn't mean you intend to offend people by asking.
One of my questions garnered a "there are no hacks" answer and posted links to existing products. As explained here, "No" is a valid answer.
However, since they answered, other users have posted valid, working hacks making that answer outright wrong. What should I do?
Nothing?
Comment and...
@Shokhet Hi! Just curious-what's that medical question you asked? I'm following this discussion re the controversial question on LH. My two cents is that it should be off-topic, and that tag shouldn't exist. I didn't read it cuz I didn't want to add to its views.
Read it now tho to try to be objective. I get that it's about cleaning, but should still be closed. Again, just my 2 cents, and this comment isn't directed to you personally, to all who've been chatting about it. Gonna check out the discussion on Meta. Hope you're having a good day!
Are you struggling over that question, and the topic in general?
I didn't like seeing it, but don't want to insult you and those who are working so hard on LH!
@apaul34208 I just want to welcome you to chat too. People here have made my SE experience much easier, plus they're friendly and fun to hang out with!
@Shokhet You mean Shog's full answer, rather than the comments? There's some history stuff I can't see in Safari. It looks like a well thought out discussion.
@J.Musser Makes sense. That's what the community's for. When I saw it originally, I chose not to read it, which is what we should all do. I think you scope-designers have a harder job.
I didn't mean we should choose not to read it, but that we should each make our own choice!
As for the tag, I agree with @Mooseman, but that's just my opinion.
There's also another question I keep coming across, on Meta I think, the title of which is fk, fk, f**k. It wasn't closed I think because the discussion is interesting, but I think the title violates the Be Nice or some other rule.
Then again, you may be tired of this whole thing and prefer to talk about Clementines:)
@J.Musser Did you know a mourning dove can store 17,200 bluegrass seeds in a part of its esophagus to eat later? One of my fave bird facts!
