9:00 PM
that is the best technique to do tileable noise, for sure
if you discover a better technique, then you need to publish it... because it doesn't exist.

Pip
o/

Jon
And the references I provide there, are amazing

@Jon What if I want it to wrap in both axes?
X and Y

@Jon That is trued of every algorithm.

Jon
Covered, you just have to read :)

9:01 PM
Oh.
I saw one article that was saying that they used 4D noise. Is that what you are doing (haven't gotten there yet)?

Jon
Yes

Oh, I see here.

Jon
you sample 4D noise, in a cylinder over a cylinder
it is hard to explain

Well it's a 4D shape.

Jon
but basically, you are intersecting two cylinders in 4d space

9:02 PM
You can't think about it really.

Jon
No you can't , lol
But I understand it

The only 4D shape that I sort of understand is the Klein bottle.

i get the tesseract i think

Jon
Yeah, it is easier to understand, than it is to see/visualize

@Jon interesting way to solve the problem

Jon
9:04 PM
Yeah, I thought so too

I used a spherical noise function ...

Jon
I think the credits go to that guy I linked in my article
I also do spherical.. in part 4
can't believe you guys didn't read my series.

Wait, what? I would very much like to have that planet generation for the game I'm working on.

Jon
open sourced, and tutorial available at jgallant.com
questions or comments.. direct them to me
also, please buy my game, picross touch... available on ios and android
lol

@Jon i read bits here and there

Jon
9:14 PM
my girlfriend bought me this 15$ beer

I'm working on a system to allow your ideas to be applied on the GPU

Jon
I am drinking it now.. and it is pretty damn gangsta
9.7%

lol

Apparently I have visited your site in the past.
I have no memory of it.

I have some crazy plans ... takes so long doing this stuff solo though :(

Jon
9:15 PM
@Wardy maybe we could team that stuff up at some point.
I know mick wants to do lighting
you do the gpu side, i do the cpu side.. mick does the lighting

@Jon Yeh i could do with some extra man power ... want to get this meshing code sorted first though

Jon
hehe, i got plenty to do too :)

once i get that and a few bits worked out to do with noise module stacking I want to get some serious discussion going about a bout noise module builder for unity

Oh! Now I know why I visited your site. It has that chart on biomes.

Jon
hehe cool

9:17 PM
I've used it in the past.
(Or at least, wanted to use it in a project)

I have theory that I can save a noise module stack as json and then load it to configure the stack for computation on the gpu

the whole lot right through to producing the mesh would take place on the gpu

@ShotgunNinja I wanted to send that but I didn't have it handy.
Anyway, I need to sleep. Good night.

buenas noches, mi amigo

Jon
9:19 PM

9:31 PM
Hasn't this question been asked before??

Q: Creating Slide-In Text

VictorI want to make my text slide like so: This is from the game "Crossy Road". The movement is normally smoother that in the .GIF Here are some more frames from the GIF to make you understand what I mean: FRAME 1: i.stack.imgur.com/g4DK1.gif FRAME 2: i.stack.imgur.com/4CQVk.gif FRAM...

Jon
holy shit
that looks a lot like my slide in text

Pip
@ShotgunNinja ey!

Jon

Yeah, I would think it's a common way to do this :p

Jon
lol yeah i guess so

9:37 PM
I'm going to have to steal the fuck out of SmoothDamp
it's just so sexy it hurts

@AlexandreVaillancourt @JoshPetrie do you remember if you have deleted something like this?

Pip
lol

Testing stuff ftw :)

Jon
10:09 PM
@Almo u home homey?

no
not for another hour or two

Jon
daamn.
ok... well can you get me a testflight for tomorrow?
and then tomorrow night.. we publish?

I can build and submit tonight, might take till tomorrow for them to approve testflight build

Jon
would you have time for that?
I'm pretty confident at this point.. but I still want to test confirm

right

Jon
10:11 PM
but like, tomorrow night... we could skype.. publish together

user4704
Yes, I'm investigating.

Jon
Firewatch is coming out in 20 hours

user4704
I'm looking forward to that.

omg this is just beyond rediculous now ...

Q: How do I build a 3D array result set from a compute shader in unity?

WardyI took this right down to the absolute most basic scenario but for some reason I can't get anything back from the GPU when this completes, could someone explain what I am doing wrong ... Here's my CPU code: using (var debugBuffer = new ComputeBuffer(27, sizeof(int))) { var kernel = compute....

Jon
the game is simply beautiful
hoping the gameplay is good too
"simply"

10:25 PM
@Jon it does look interesting ... i get the feeling it might be a bit dull in places though
i mean you are literally in the middle of nowhere

why do "artsy" websites always mess with the scroll speed?

@JoshPetrie Nice Sherlock skills :)

pisses me off every time. don't touch my damn scroll wheel. let it work how it's supposed to.
firewatch's website does that and it already turned me off from the game a little

user4704
@AlexandreVaillancourt I have a running Google Document. It's less search ability and more sitting around evaluating the data against a probably match for the offending user.

the trailer is pretty though

10:34 PM
Oh, well Sherlock had his mind palace or something :P Google Docs do the job I guess :P

oh man, just had a nerdfight with one of the other developers
this guy wanted me to change something and said something that was blatantly wrong, and I pulled the source code for the library we were using and tracked down the exact line that proved him wrong.
I also made the change he proposed, tested it, and confirmed that it completely destroyed our authentication system
so HA
I win!
on a Monday, with only a single cup of coffee, at 4pm, I proved the lead developer wrong.

11:14 PM
lol
I swear one of our guys is begging for such an opportunity to do that to me
since i've done it so many times to him with off the cuff comments
bla bla bla ... i fixed this with that ... yawn ... sure you did, you also didn't take in to account that by the way ... cya later
2 weeks later ... what was the fix in the end to that problem ... still not fixed it huh ???
let me take a look ... oh you just to write these 5 lines of code look ...
that's happening about about once a week at the moment with particular guy
why he's still working with us I have no idea

@jon ok, i'll be putting in my postbuild step that fixes the launch images

@IcyDefiance completely agree ... why do people feel the need to control absolutely everything in a non standard way!

Jon
Ok good

@jon can you send me that icon again?
to set the launch images i also need to set the icons

Jon
Should be in project folder
Textures

11:27 PM
ok
thanks

Jon
Higher def one I have too is that what you want?
It's in your emails
From a while ago

512 is fine for the app icon set, I think
I needed the 1024 for iTunes Store

Jon
11:43 PM
I am excited
You are also going to have to take screen shots
