Like I'm going to need a terrain/tile-selector, (probably) a property editor like thing for entities and then a "variation" selector, which is basically just an int, but with it set at 0, the ladder brush draws a wooden ladder, and with the variation set at 1, it draws a stone ladder

And the only reason is that they don't want you to operate on the wireless band you want -- they want to lock that shit down. It is the only reason.

everyone is saying it is because they want to be able to hack your router -- that flashing effectively removes backdoors that are installed on your network

That would mean that every wireless router out there, every single manufacturer, of every single firmware they created, have a backdoor

And that no one has found them yet
