4:00 PM
I have camObject.active
but .active is depreciated
what should it be now?

Jon
click the checkbox next to vsync

in Unity? no idea. I've spent a total of like an hour with Unity, lol. probably a checkbox somewhere.

Jon
it is in your project quality settings

Ok I'll take a look, thanks Jon

That's malicious man, you could probably crash a 100% objective thinker set on answering.
The way I see it you'd have to get statistics on the demographic, and then cross reference it with the metabolism rate of bacon and beer, to see which one he's more likely to be mostly composed of

Jon
lol
it is a 50/50 chance though... you could gamble and just guess at it

ughhh it's only a 50/50 chance in the naive case

Jon
true

@JohnMcDonald I decided to let someone who didn't know about your site that it exists. They love the changes you made to the page source - reddit.com/r/ProgrammerHumor/comments/37bp3l/yeah_why/crld8k7

4:06 PM
hmm activeHierarchy or activeSelf?
which one to use?

Jon
depends what you want

Wow something useful from reddit!

Jon
one tells you if the object is active, the other tells you if the object is active based on its hierchy

though it's only useful because 5 is my favorite number

reddit does entertaining a lot better than useful, lol
/r/askhistorians and /r/askscience are awesome though. I've learned so much from both subs.

Jon
4:10 PM
/r/gamedev can be pretty shitty
apparently the public has voted, and construct 2 is the best 2d game engine
followed by ClickTeam Fusion
I have a feeling this list is currated by ClickTeam Fusion

... I have seen some people making game with that on Twitch. Was always curious what it was, but always had been too lazy to ask.

Jon
lmao
yeah, construct is great for kids

people using the small engines with no respect feel a need to "prove" themselves
so they just swarm votes like that

Jon
kinda like the prime minister of canada

4:17 PM
doesn't look like it was requested by construct's creators or anything, just the users

Anyone here a Source Engine dev?

Jon
I don't think so

Source Engine is tough, compared to other engines/editors.

btw, what the heck are audio listeners? I am not doing anything with sound in my unity proj, can I remove them or would they effect anything else?

I've heard it mentioned before...don't remember who mentioned it though.
I haven't used it, anyway

4:18 PM
I am getting two audio listeners in the scene

Jon
Kala, remove it

warnings incomming

Jon
they are added automatically to your Camera

@BenVlodgi Are you asking for Valve employees, or people who have used the source engine?

@BlueBug The engine is a pain to work with, but I think the level design is easier than others

4:19 PM
@KalaJ audio listeners would be for "3D" sound, so things get quieter as they're farther away

@MickLH Source is just my main engine, so I was just looking to say hi

Jon
hi

@BenVlodgi lol sup

I don't have any sound in my scene, (don't need), can I just remove component?

Jon
i said remove it

4:20 PM
@Jon Mad respect bro how do you do it? (I mean, you saw I already busted out the lmgtfy)

Level design is easier than others? ...hmmm.... I guess you could say that... I guess if you are professionally building 3d map environment, source can be better.

Jon
i guess i'm bored

cool thanks

Jon
I should take on an apprentice

#Jon Didn't you get warnings for deleting it? Unit warnings poping up

Jon
4:21 PM
make him call me emperor

now if I merge in my changes, which file do I need to commit to make sure that audio component is removed from my scene?

Jon
might get warnings dunno
just tried, and no

oh, you get warnings if you have more than one audio listener, the other way. NVM.

Jon
i figured there might be a reason unity forces you to have it on camera by default

A lot can be accomplished with those little engines / visual scripters / whatever you want to call them. As technical people we just see them as more of a road block than helpful because our skill sets go beyond that of the tools capabilities.

4:23 PM
@Jon Now, I will never hear "Impressive" in that quake voice, ever again
I will hear "Empressive" implying that you're a female emperor

Sorry if you guys are past that - just wanted to add my two cents :)

Jon
lol wut
Kala, you want me to be your emperor?
you can be my padawan

There are very-financially-successful games that are made with these "GameMakers"... I guess that speaks for it to some degree.

you can be emperor, I'll just be around :P

Jon
so be it.

4:25 PM
Curious, from a dev's standpoint, do you guys normally ignore warnings or try and clean up your code warnings and bring them down to zero?

Oh oh ohoh I have what "Josh" said here about warnings!

Jon
Warnings Shmornings. Fix em.

Right now our dev proj has 179 warnings lol. I brought it down from 200 but now I'm feeling lazy

Jon
ffs

esp. since most of it is from someone else's code :/

Jon
4:28 PM
I have this guy I work with.. he opens this legacy app he is supporting until he dies... it had over 200 warnings

When you walk into 200 warning in a compile...

Jon
he says "warnings don't stop you from compiling"

I can't dig up what josh said dang it, but he said something like, there is a reason why your compiler throws you warnings. They are meant to be fixed. If you want to improve your programming skill, you should fix them. Fix them.

Jon
It reflects poorly on you
if someone comes into my project, and it has 200 warnings, it doesn't really give off a good impression

hmm I see. Maybe I'll just create a subcase to fix them

Jon
4:29 PM
And if I join a project, and it has 200 warnings, I will probably make judgement on my team

most of them are variable is assigned but never used lol

I got noticeably more mean in the last week or two I've noticed

I like it when VS doesn't properly detect linked resources and throws warnings about not finding what it needs for ASP.NET stuff. Or when it tells me something isn't compatible with XHTML... Needless to say I can get several hundred warnings because I have no clue how to tell VS it's wrong and needs to shape up.

Jon
yeah, like in Unity, you can get a warning for a unused variable
public Transform foo;
where you would drag/drop the gameobject into this property slot in the editor
The variable is being used .. but the compiler is not aware until the application is running
aka, it can't know.

4:33 PM
That's disgusting
I'm not gonna Drag & Drop in Unity

soo maybe I should not clean up the warnings lol just in case

Oh I think I get it

Jon
Yeah, which is why I don't drag drop shit in unity

What compiler r u using @Jon

Jon
mono

4:33 PM
You are then referencing that variable in another script since it's a public property

...really? I too use mono but mine doesn't throw me an error if I set a variable as public.

Jon
what I mean is, you assign it from the unity Editor
not in code
so it throws a warning that you are using a unassigned variable

oooooooooooooooooooooooh
unASSIGNED
not unUSED

Jon
oh.. sorry

yeah that's annoying :D

4:35 PM
Still, it doesn't throw me a warning...
@_@

Jon
i saw it warn me for doing this before -- might be for a specific case

It might be, maybe, because I installed the newest version of Unity/Mono; I uninstalled the Unity then reinstalled them all.
They must had fixed that annoying "feature"
The article states that productive people run in the morning.
...Bill Gates, Oprah, Richard Branson. They’ve all revealed that, though they’re incredibly busy, they go for a run each morning before jumping into work.
Do you people run in the morning? I don't.... maybe that's why I am so not productive.

bill gates doesn't run, he jumps over chairs

Jon
They also have personal trainers, personal chefs, maids, etc...
All the chores that you do that take up a lot of your time, they don't even think about doing
And they pay people to motivate them

@BlueBug I really should start exercising again... XD

4:40 PM
I guess I must jump over chairs and hire trainers to be productive.

Jon
So yeah, if they don't go to the gym at their current level, they are doing something wrong. It prolongs their life.
They have no excuse.
It has nothing to do with being productive at their level -- do you really think these guys do anything but talk now?
Is talking in a meeting productive?
Sure, they make decisions, but they don't actually do anything.

lmao hahaha xD true. The list of people artist suggest seems rather irrelevant.

@IcyDefiance I've been considering busting out the DDR / PS2 again. Since I play on heavy that counts right? Legs of steel!

counts for something anyway. cardio or whatever they call it.

Jon
i like bodyweight fitness

4:43 PM
my family has a weight set and a treadmill literally in the room next to where I'm sitting
it's just work to use them XD

Jon
i have gym rings, pullup bar, and a free weights set with squat rack
haven't used in a year.

i have a chair and some mountain dews
using them now

Jon
heh

oh we have like 3 benches, a squat rack/pullup bar, a few straight bars, a curl bar, some dumbbells... it's actually a pretty nice setup

Jon
soda pop is so bad for you
ok, you got me .. im' gonna start training again
who's with me?
i was almost at 20 pullups last time i stopped... can't do 10 today

4:46 PM
sure why not. ran out of contract work to do until tomorrow anyway, so I'm bored.

Jon
also almost had a 1 arm pullup

#IcyDefiance try midnight run-what I (used to, because I exercise very-less now, lol )do. feels good to smell the fresh chill air and have sleeping city all for you.

yeah I like the night. if I run that's probably when I'll do it, lol.

@Jon I thought u were more into acrobatic-exercise? I remember you telling me you were doing upside down exercise thinging as well.

Jon
yeah bodyweight training
handstand pushups

4:48 PM
oh... "bodyweight training" I thought bodyweight == weight lifting.

Jon
its great because you gain skill and health at the same time

last half a year when I was in army, I learned that bodyweight training is soooo tougher than it looks. I used to underestimate bodyweight lifting exercises because it's your body, therefore I assumed it must be somehow easy.

Jon
yeah.. for example.. i was able to do a ton of dips
got the gym rings, could barely do 1 the first time
it is not as progressive as weights
because it is so slow

lol I haven't been in any form of military, but one of my basketball coaches in highschool was a reserve in the national guard
he had so many insane ideas to make us work

Millitary people are great

4:52 PM
by the end of that season any of us could play a full game with no subs and not even slow down by the end

I like tough coaches. I somehow like being treated rough to get trained tough. ^ best type of coaches, ones that actually makes you strong.

Jon
That is why Easy Company trained so hard

I hate being trained by millitary people hahaha

you know what? I am now re-stationed to office work that involves no-army-stuff at all, I DO NOT want to go back to the training course not ever again. I will fu13ign go nut-batch-crazy if they try to put me back to the combat line. I lu<3 comfort of my own bed and couch too much.

But I always seem to get along well, like usually it goes we rag on each other a few times to make sure each other are impossible to offend, and then cut the bullshit forever after.

Jon
4:55 PM
ahhhh, the man to man relationship

Joe
writes script to query domain name availability of a LARGE number of words
feels obligated to buy 20 new domain names

Jon
20?
what are some of the goodo nes?

Maybe you can get a bulk discount

@Jon, How does using free software `screw' anyone?

Joe
so far they arent amazing but still correctly spelled english words

4:56 PM
not the open sourced good softwares, but ones that are "free"

Jon
"freeware"
they package adware, bloatware, or scamware, they try to get crap on your PC in any way possible

yeah, like utorrent

^

lol I forgot I keep chat so zoomed in I cant see the stars

Jon
or GimpShop
and the worse part is, sites that used to be reputable are all doing it now
still claiming their downloads are 100% safe

5:00 PM
You have to know how to use a computer, to use a computer.
People forgot that somewhere along the line, but they will remember eventually. Just as soon as awesome brain chips come out and you can be superhuman if you can manage to not download a virus.

My dad's computer always gets infested with crap like this.

I wish everyone's computer just turned into a brain chip magically, so that all the people with viruses literally become slave zombies lol
Serves them right for thinking it's OK to use technology ignorantly.
As technology gets more and more powerful, we'll eventually have simple technology that could just Oops acidentally killed EVERYONE if ignorant people try to just ignorant their way to what they want from it

Jon
with great power, comes great pornography.

so the power must be controlled. If not, an abomination rises.... ---/r/cummingonfigurines----

Jon
is that ... real?
i am not going to attempt it

5:09 PM
u r wiser than me.

Rule 34

Jon
so, why do handguns only have one barrel?

they dont
Reddit has shown me they have many
sorry
You wave that in someones face and they know you mean business

Jon
hahaha, murica

I feel like your wrist's gona snap if you shoot that thing.

5:21 PM
This is an awesome design geometrically speaking i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/s--rzxb0e8q--/…

Jon
its for war amputees

if you have no hands, is it still a handgun ?

Jon
hmmm....

the shells are exposed outside far too much. It's gona get dirt or something and explode/fire the bullet unintended.
bang! bang! bang!!! two for your balls and one for your pillar. Fastest way to become a monk.

yeah but you only really need 1 bullet to fire correctly so it also spreads the risk of not getting the desired result
even if you lose an arm

5:25 PM
besides that, it's a cool design.

again just flashing something like that should do the job 90% of time

This is cool.

Q: How to create a map from graph

maggieI want to draw a 2d polygon map based on data provided by another source to ease analysing actions on the map. The data has the following format: 1 ['2', '4', '5', '7', '17', '10'] 2 ['1', '3', '4'] 3 ['2', '11', '4'] 4 ['1', '2', '3', '11', '13', '18', '5'] 5 ['1', '4', '18', '17'] 6 ['7', '8']...

looks fun

@Jon have you looked yet? Sorry to nag just waiting on it

BlackDesert, it's got that highlevel fancy graphic.
BlackDesert is the prettiest looking RPG game at the moment in korea.

Jon
not yet sorry
i'll look at it nnow

Jon
5:56 PM
is that DX12?

the game is so intense system requirement, it still need extensive loading time even on high-end computers.

@Jon thanks :)

It's DX9

Jon
can I talk in here or? @OMGtechy

I feel like korean games get fancier and fancier, it's like each company competes to produce the best looking game, yet their gameplay remains almost identical.
