Interesting tidbit (for stat nerds I guess): Yesterday while reading an article the author stated that the etymology of the word histo was original meant to mean "covering tissue".
In reference to histogram I thought this etymology was strange. Looking up the wikipedia article on histograms it seems the origin of the word was either based on a different etymology of being histo meaning upright and gram meaning drawing.
Or a much simpler explanation that the word is a portmanteau of historical diagram.
