Q: name of artsy italian 60s movie where 2 couples vacation at a shack on the pier

MonkeyBonkeyI'm trying to remember the name of a very artsy well shot color foreign film, I think it was Italian, 60s film. Q: Why does Robin call Petyr "Uncle"?

Matthew StevensonIn S04E05 of Game of Thrones, Lady Sansa Stark and Lord Petyr Baelish arrive in The Eyrie. They are greeted by Lysa and Robin Arryn. hey guys
So, anyone watched Avengers 2 yet?

@MattD No, Lee Marvin in Point Blank.
@atticae Probably next week.

@NapoleonWilson Saw it yesterday, definitely watch-worthy.
Anyway, I still didn't receive my swag package...
And Abby from SE isn't responding to my mails anymore. Hm
Kind of disappointed. Was looking forward to that shirt.

Q: Reason behind Man of Steels muted tones

Ashish KulkarniAre there any officially declared answers to why exactly "Man of Steel" had such heavy, dark tones throughout the movie? Usually such themes are used to depict harsh times in a movie. But here, the entire movie looked very dark & gloomy. For Reference.

2:35 PM
@atticae Disappointed? This will definitely come. They said we'll get it and we will get it! There's no excuse for not sending this stuff, only for possible delays.

@NapoleonWilson Didn't you receive yours already some time ago? I suspect they sent mine to the wrong address.

Or are you talking about the moderator election stuff? I got that already. (But no reason to cheer, since they'll send you an SE-only T-shirt even if you selected a site-specific T-shirt. But the graduation stuff ought to come with a movies T-shirt.)

Anyway, I wrote them another mail, maybe being persistent will do something.
@NapoleonWilson Yeah, talking about the mod shirt.
But hey I would take the graduation swag package too, although I doubt they will remember that.

I'll open a proper meta question about the graduation stuff at some point anyway. Since for this we didn't even get forms yet and this is the far more important stuff.

They only sent out the mod package after I reminded them by mail in the first place.

2:38 PM
@atticae They ought to remember that. Will is out of the question and want is irrelevant!

@NapoleonWilson Could be a problem to find out what the rep board looked like back at graduation day.

@atticae That's their problem to figure out. I'm taking this stuff serious and the friggin' T-shirt is the best thing of the design (and was the primary reason why I didn't like that previous big worm cloud thing logo.)

@NapoleonWilson If you are waiting to see if they remember themselves, don't hold your breath. I guess if we are going to take it to meta we should do it rather sooner than later.

@atticae Most probably, as it went with the Community Promotion Ads.

@NapoleonWilson Did you remind them of the promotion ads or did they notice themselves?
As I said they even forgot about the mod shirts after posting the forms and only remembered when I asked them via mail.

2:43 PM
But well, I guess there's also not much one can do (apart from screaming, rage quitting and destroying the site, of course) if they just say "screw you, we don't send out any swag crap anymore!" as they did with the site-specific blogs.

@NapoleonWilson Ah, don't remind me of that! grmpf

@atticae Oh, I asked a meta question, which stayed without any notice. Then I took it to the main meta still without any notice, then I placed a bounty on the main meta question without any notice. Then at some point I just got hold of Grace Note (the guy who does them) in the moderator chat room and that apparently did it (and then self answered the meta question since there was still nobody feeling obliged to do so).

@NapoleonWilson lol
Sounds like a straightforward process to me
Thats how they find out who really wants something done. And can ignore everyone else.
Ok enough moaning, I will send them a mail about the graduation swag package when (err...if) they answer the mail I just sent.
I will look like a greedy **** but I don't care. :D

Hmm, maybe I also should put my talks about a swag meta post to actual action in due time.
@atticae Me neither, don't make promises if you don't want people to look forward to them.

3:47 PM
@MovieReel Maybe it's really time for a tag now? I feel would be a bit too general and doesn't seem to fit either. But I guess the color tones of a movie are indeed a reasonable and significant part of its composition and we already have a few color questions. Maybe even merge it with (and remove it from IDs), but ok, this could be considered later.

@NapoleonWilson It's shorthand but we do say, "Hey, did you do the color for ___film?"
Colorization would be completely wrong, as that is generally applied to films (like Shirley Temple films, for example) that were originally released in B&W but then re-released in Color.

Hmm, so is best? Or does that only apply to a dedicated post-process and not the general color design, too (i.e. by set design, costumes, camera filers,...)?

Color grading is the technical term but it generally applies more to digital processes (in my mind, at least)... Color timing is what you call the film process. You could call it color-editing or color-design?

Oh, I might like . But on the other hand it sounds strange, too. But I guess that could work.

Color-editing has the benefit of implying that it's a choice, the way any form of editing is... but color-design seems like something applied all-over, like the yellowed tones in Oh Brother, Where Art Thou.
Plus, color design can apply to work that a set/wardrobe designer does... they make specific choices that ___ character is always seen in green, or black, or red...

3:58 PM
@Catija Which brings us to the question what things should be tagged with this at all, I guess.

Or that _____'s house is Yellow.

@Catija I would tend to include those decisions into the tag, so maybe "color design" in its broadness might not be that bad.
"editing" always sounds like a dedicated process to me, like editing what's already given and not designing what's to be created at all.

Would you want two utterly different things in the same tag? That seems counter to the point of tags.

For example the Schindler's List red girl question (I think we have that question here)? Where would that fall, design or editing?

Even if that's true (which I don't agree with), that's actually exactly what you're doing... you're taking film that's already existing (usually the locked edit of the film) and then changing it to make the scenes match (or not match).

4:02 PM
@Catija The problem is that you often might not know if something was a deliberate post process or just a clever user of filters or a general design of the props or whatever.
But anyway, if we chose to go with a more restirctive approach, we could as well just call it which seems more on-par with that meaning (hmm, maybe I just don't like the word "editing" for whatever reason.

shrug Why bother with a tag that Flyk is just going to want to delete because "the question is about Superman, nothing else matters". :P

@Catija Hmm, I guess we already have her quite a way towards the side of general movie aspects tags (be it just because she doesn't care anymore ;-)).

I've been away for a while, so I'm not sure what's happened in the meantime. It's been a crazy week for me.
I don't mind color design but I'd like to see it kept separate from set/wardrobe color design. I don't think the two should overlap.

@Catija Well, for now our last discussion scared her off. So it's been a quiet (boring?) day regarding comment flags.
@Catija Hmm, ok, I guess we can just go with then.
Afterall wardrobe stuff might as well be tagged anyway.

That's what I'm saying... we already have set design (I think) and wardrobe/costume.
No need to muddy the waters.

4:10 PM
But still, what about "why's this made in black and white"?, if it was just a filter/camera, that's not necessarily color grading or editing, I guess.

Most films made in B&W are shot on B&W film. It's not about a filter or a camera.

@Catija Yet I would like those thing to have a color tag.
Maybe I'm just thinking too much about this, I guess noone really cares anyway.

@NapoleonWilson I said that I'm cool with color-design as long as it doesn't include wardrobe/set questions.
Color design could cover both filming choices and post-editing choices.

@Catija Yeah, but I am not sure so much about "color design" then, too.
@Catija Hmm, also true.

In this sort of case, there's no real way to prevent misuse but I think the likelihood of misuse (due to the rarity of the question and having a good tag description) will make it very uncommon.
Regardless, whichever we go for, you'll make B&W and Color both tag synonyms, is my guess.
Though, that begs the question, what about films that just are B&W because that's all they had? Presumably, those shouldn't be tagged that way, regardless?

4:17 PM
@Catija Well, it depends on the question (and don't forget, the tag is always about the question and not about the movie). So for a movie that obviously only had black and white you're less likely to ask "why's that thing black and white".
On the other hand if you can come up with a reasanable question how its B/W style has contributed it (or whatever kind of question) about its B/W nature, then why not tag it so.

@NapoleonWilson But people are stupid... so a question about a film from the 30s asking why it was in B&W would get closed for lack of research.
What type of question about a B&W film would someone ask that highlights its B&W nature?

@Catija Or would just have an obvious answer. But whatever's done to that question, deleted, closed, downvoted, upvoted, answered, the tag seems fitting since that's exactly what the question is about.
@Catija Pff, what do I know.

I think you'd be more likely to get a question about the B&W era that didn't necessarily have to do with a specific film.

The bigger problem of making a synonym of will be that it will still get used on ID questions (which then is of course to be disallowed). But ok, we still have that problem with and friends and it doesn't seem to get out of hand yet.
@Catija Sure, so what?

@NapoleonWilson So nothing. Just thinking it through.

4:29 PM
Hmm, I'd go with a more conservative for now and leave any possible broadening (as well the treatment of ) open for now (afterall we only have two reasonable questions for now anyway).
Hmm, or rather ? Ah, screw that, I'll just take break now and think very deep into myself (or get a drink).

You could ask on Meta if people have a thought or another option that we're not thinking of.

5:06 PM
@MattD Hmm, I don't remember it being that grey, probably strengthened by seeing the contrast next to the "colorized" version. But I guess those people are the same guys that complain about Lucas' and Scott's repeated Director's Cut Reconning Editions. The movie's made that way, it's how it should look afterall, like it or not.
@Catija Ugh, pff, sure. ;-(

5:38 PM
Wow, that attempt to re-open that Batman vs. Superman question. I literally can't even.

@MattD Wut? What attempt? What question? Where am I?
Oh, it seems that's my fault. I just made some necessary edits. But you know, every edit to a closed (or rather "on hold") question bumps it into the review queue. That wasn't actually a real reopening attempt (and there is no vote for that currently).

6:17 PM
Yeah, I didn't know about that, and it simply said Anonymous User was the editor. Had I seen it was you I would have looked into it a bit more closely, or asked about it here. My bad.

Downvote to oblivion :D

@Catija "What is the guideline on downvoting questions for lack of research?" - Uh, yes.

9:34 PM
@NapoleonWilson Yes meaning do downvote?

@Catija Hover with the mouse over the downvote button, read the tooltip, and then judge for yourself.
Which brings me to a quote ID-question I'd like to ask.
Oh wait, I remember already.

I know.... I know. It's just that, on some sites it's difficult to judge what "research" is. I mean, I'll be honest, the video I posted was the first result in Google for my search, so I think that's pretty clear that it shows no research but some people are like "Google doesn't work the same for everyone"... blah blah blah.

@Catija Well, it's up everyone's own discretion what quality requirements she sets. I don't really care that much. I'd love me 10 s over a single anyway. So I don't really care that much, but maybe I'll also downvote later when I'm in the mood for it.

@AnkitSharma - you in here?

@NapoleonWilson - Interesting. Feeds doesn't automod strikeouts?
@Catija I would, but I refuse to eat skittles. Or starburst.

@JohnP What do you mean automod, what Feeds?

Doesn't the f bomb get flagged? Or does someone in chat actually have to do that?

@JohnP they are manual
To autobombs yet

I think I also can talk about fucking without strikeout (and have done so in the past, even if I'm not proud of each instant I did so). You'd have to flag it yourself, I think.

10:10 PM
Ah, ok. I thought there was a chat monitoring bot that popped up flags for curse words automagically.

Else everyone on HTML(SO) chatroom will be banned forever

I'd have never heard about such a thing (and wouldn't really like it).

And I got flagged and banned for a really innocuous joke about women in RPG chat. Grr.

@JohnP Yet that probably didn't even have a curse word. That's the advantage of human flaggers, they can factor in context and not just mere word alarms (not saying your ban was justified or anything).

@NapoleonWilson Here's the comment: It's like arguing with a woman, even if you win you're wrong. :p

10:13 PM
And that's also the advantage of a less frequented room, not so many people flagging stuff, muhahaha!

With due apologies to any ladies in the room, this was for an example.

@JohnP lol

at least hichris told me how to chat ban mods :p

@JohnP Uh, well, you can indeed overdo political/sexual correctness. I don't really see a problem with that, but ok, I'm not a woman either.

Mod can be chat banned
O-o

10:15 PM
It's not really sexist at all, it's just one of those man/woman things that have found their ways into "common" idioms. Or maybe I'm making myself guilty with this comment, too. Anyway.

Yeah, I thought it was a bit absurd as well, but the guy that flagged it is all kinds of politically correct.

10:34 PM
@JohnP he must not be married ;)

@BenPlont Hah! :)
