Q: Is Felix a host?

toryanI believe the final episode of Westworld gives some indication that Felix might be a host: Maeve's escape was not her own idea, but a storyline given to her by someone else (probably Robert Ford). Therefore, anything that happens to Maeve have been engineered to some degree by Ford. Felix and S...

@MovieReel I think have something like this before

9:18 AM
@AnkitSharma Yeah, me too. I just searched, but the only question seems about Zoom killing his time remnant, whatever that means.
@MovieReel Is that a spoiler?

@NapoleonWilson looks like it, I think dizzle is following the show, you can ask him
@NapoleonWilson Is any of this three already asked?

user116211
@MovieReel Mike already wrote a good post on it, AFAIR; yes already there are posts on time-remnants.

@AnkitSharma The 3rd one only makes sense when the 2nd gets answered "yes", which isn't the case, but it hasn't been asked before either.

Toy Story seems way overrated indeed.

This list of theatrical animated feature films consists of animated films produced and/or released by The Walt Disney Studios, the film division of The Walt Disney Company. Currently, the The Walt Disney Studios releases films from Disney-owned and non-Disney owned animation studios. Most films listed below are from Walt Disney Animation Studios which began as the feature animation department of Walt Disney Productions, producing its first feature-length animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 and as of 2016 has produced a total of 56 feature films. @NapoleonWilson Frozen was bit overrated, I found tangled way better the it
@MAFIA36790 I think it's called The Sword in the Stone ;)

@DrRDizzle No.

user116211
@AnkitSharma Ahh! I could have guessed by the stone and the sword, though ;)

As I can't compare The Dark knight with Time travelers wife or 10 things I hate about you

@AnkitSharma True. But you can say which you enjoyed more.

@NapoleonWilson ask them

@AnkitSharma I wouldn't have asked them at all, it seemed perfectly on-topic there.

11:01 AM
@DrRDizzle I still can't compare a beer with lemonade.
Same for films

user116211
@napoleon, in the sense that the link in the other post are related.

Indeed. You enjoy each film in its own way for what it is. You cannot say which you enjoyed more.

user116211
And so is the one which I flagged as the possible dupe.

@NapoleonWilson Also have SFF account

@MAFIA36790 So is it a duplicate then or not?
@AnkitSharma It's irrelevant anyway, since he already reasked the question, which is why I deleted that chat message.

user116211
11:02 AM
@NapoleonWilson Dupe for me; but that will be decided by the community and not me singly.

@NapoleonWilson I can say I liked Rango more then toy story but I can't say If I like rango more then GotG or not. So I will better make a categorization and then pick top from them all separately

@MAFIA36790 Remember that we don't close every second question as a duplicate here just because one of the answers of an existing question might touch on a possible answer to the new question. Since you might be used to Science Fiction & Fantasy, I'd better clatrify that.

@NapoleonWilson I don't agree. Yes, it can be really difficult to decide which film is best or which has the most merit or is the most worthy, but surely on an almost instinctive level you can tell which one you enjoyed watching the most? Which you're most likely to rewatch in the future?

@AnkitSharma Indeed.

user116211
@NapoleonWilson I don't disagree; just because one answer touches the point concerned doesn't mean that post would be a dupe; but here the present query actually asks about how time remnant works; same thing that other post asks in the form of Hunter Zolomon.

11:05 AM
@DrRDizzle No, I can not. That's why I don't select a single film as the bestest ever without a lifetime of thinking and consideration. That's simply not how stuff works for me. I don't give grades on an arbitrary scale and I don't compare movies that are utterly incomparable.

user116211
And re-iterating myself, final decision would come from the community. For me, yes, it's a dupe.

@DrRDizzle It depends on the mood which I rewatch. I'f I'm in the mood for Run All Night, I'll likely not watch Nausicaä instead.

@NapoleonWilson I'm not expecting you do chose just one film as the best ever - I certainly wouldn't be able to do that because there are dozens (if not more) of different ways to evaluate a movie. But on a much shallower (or potentially much deeper, depending on how you look at it), I think most people are able to identify what films they most like to watch. It's a much more personal choice, but in a purely base level "which did I prefer", all films are comparable because, well, they're all films.
I can wax lyrically about the impeccable structure of The Dark Knight and the thematic resonance that film has and the brilliant performances all day, but at a base level? I'll take Aladdin, thanks, because it makes me feel happy and I like the songs. It's not a smart choice, and one I can't really defend - because it's not a thought process. It's a feeling.

@DrRDizzle Still requires heavily elaborate considerations, whose exhaustiveness would still lie below what the severity of the topic deserves.

@NapoleonWilson Oh, for sure, it's not an easy question to answer because a lot of it may well depend on how you feel right now.

11:13 AM
@DrRDizzle That's not a reasonable comparison for me, though. I'd rather not judge my enjoyment of a film on that level, or I might not consider this a criterion I'd like my single-most bestest film to be selected by. It seems to depend highly on the situation if a film "makes you happy".

user116211
Funny, right? :

@NapoleonWilson You're right, of course. But I can watch and rewatch objectively great films until the cows come home that don't have that same sense of heart as something that simply isn't as good. This is what I mean when I talk about the difference between "best" and "favorite" - one is a rational choice, and the other is a gut feeling that doesn't always make a lot of sense.

user116211

A: Derivation optical depth cloud of atoms

OwenUp to date NFL News about the Miami Dolphins, Ricky Williams, Terrell Owens, and Daunte Culpepper https://compactanalysis.com/'>Owen

@DrRDizzle Yeah, but still even if selecting "favourite" your way of selecting just seems a little too insubstantial and situational to me.
Gut feelings can change and I don't want them to make a decision so important and severe for me, withouth any reasonable consideration.

@NapoleonWilson That's fair enough, and an important part of why "favourite" is rarely a good indication of "good" or "best".

11:18 AM
Besides that, they're also highly inaccurate. Your gut still can't decide between entirely unrelated films because their feelings are too diverse. I don't know how unambiguous or accurate your guts are, but mine aren't at all.
@DrRDizzle "good" or "best" is irrelevant as a general concept. There only is personal good/best, which seems to be quite the same as "favourite".

@NapoleonWilson Well I know that I personally like to feel moved by a movie. Regardless of how tense or exciting something like The Dark Knight can be (sorry to keep using that film as an example), I'd rather feel happy. Again, purely gut feeling, but that's why I'd say that when it comes to "favourites", Aladdin is higher up the list.

It also seems to be quite an extreme contrast there. There are millions of nuances between "this perfectly adheres to narrative rule #37 from story development guide X" and "meesa feel good". I'd like my judgment to be guided by a nuanced mixture of that.

@NapoleonWilson Of course there is. But again, your logical judgement of a movie and the way you feel about it in your gut are two different things. A really well-made movie may not work for you in the same way that it works for other people - a badly put together movie may resonate with you in a way that no other film does. It's why I believe that there are both objective and subjective aspects to a movie, and knowing which is which is important.
Then again, maybe I'm just talking shit.
Who knows?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@DrRDizzle That's why I don't judge a film by only one of the two but the connection. I primarily go by enjoyment and atmosphere, but that's not the same as me making a ";-)" or a ";-(". If a well-made film doesn't work for me and I don't enjoy it, then I don't like it and it's not a good or relevant film for me. But I appreciate films for what they are and not for something I'd want them to be.
Neither should rewatchability, while important, necessarily be a crucial factor for determining a favourite film.
@DrRDizzle You're not, you're just making a separation where there doesn't necessarily have to be one.

Let me give you an example. Arrival was a really, really well-made film with a lot of ideas that I like and a theme I can get behind. But I didn't feel it. Moana, while radically different in pretty much every single way (and realistically, not as well put together as Arrival), managed to do that though.
I can say in good conscience that Arrival is the better film. But I prefer Moana.

11:29 AM
Well, then why compare them to each other at all?
@DrRDizzle And this seems a somewhat unnatural distinction and conclusion.

@NapoleonWilson There is nothing unnatural about it. I'm just recognising that my subjective feelings towards a film are not always reflective of the objective qualities of the film. That's the distinction between "best" and "favourite", and it's also what makes art so fascinating to talk about, at least to me.

I just can't in good conscience call something "objectively bad".

@NapoleonWilson If a film was constantly shot out-of-focus, full of bad actors playing dull characters in a boring, poorly written story, would that not be objectively a bad movie?

11:52 AM
@DrRDizzle That will blacklist good emotional films which make u sad

@AnkitSharma That was just an example. My point was that I prefer films that can engage me emotionally on any level - sad or happy or even angry if done correctly - over smarter or more artistically valid films that don't. And that's wholly subjective, which is where I make the distinction.

> What would they do if Reverse-Flash showed up and offered them the chance to undo those tragedies? Would they stay strong, or could they make the same mistake Barry already did? Perhaps the real reason the older Barry warned Rip that no one can be trusted is that he knows his superhero colleagues might make the same mistake he once did.

user116211
> The Legends might well end up being divided over the temptations Reverse-Flash offers them. We could even be looking at the beginnings of the Arrow-verse equivalent of Marvel's Civil War, with some members siding with Reverse-Flash and others standing against him. Is that the war Barry alluded to?

user116211
@Randal'Thor Although if I'm interpreting it right, then it might also implicitly imply that a set can contain same elements; hmm.

@MAFIA36790 Some of your definitions look pretty odd to me :-)

user116211
12:42 PM
@Randal'Thor Which one?

@MAFIA36790 For instance, drawing a distinction between being a linear combination of a sequence and being a linear combination of a set, when both have exactly the same elements.
Which is what confused me enough that I couldn't really help with your question the other day.

user116211
@Randal'Thor ahh! Yeh, that's how the author defined so; it need not be all the elements of the set for the scalars can be zero of the underlying field K.

Oh, I realised that was the author's definition. Not blaming you :-)

user116211
It only needs to be a finite sequence of the members of the set for a vector to be a linear combination of the set concerned.

Wasn't the entire set finite, in that proof you were looking at?
I know things start to get weird when your vector space becomes infinite-dimensional, but with a finite basis everything is pretty nice.

user116211
12:48 PM
@Randal'Thor the author didn't mention explicitly, but I am sure, it is finite.

user116211
@Randal'Thor uff... the Hilbert Space!

Well, if it goes from a_1 up to a_n as in your question, then it's finite.

yes.

@MAFIA36790 Hilbert spaces are particularly nice infinite-dimensional vector spaces. Try Banach spaces, or Polish spaces, or topological vector spaces.

Who wouldn't prefer polished spaces over non-polished ones?

Q: Movie about terrorist planing to nuke a city with a small atomic bomb

BrainI try to find a movie I have seen in the 80s, which begins with this plot: A nuke explodes in the desert (maybe Nevada). The military denies that they have tested one. Two journalists interviews a old man at a farm who has witnessed the explosions and now shows symptoms of radioactive exposure (u...

Q: Why the humans never used EMP bombs to kill the machines in The Matrix?

Kushal BhuyanThroughout the series, humans have occasionally used the EMP bombs to kill the machines. That means they have the technology to build such weapons. So why didn't they used that to destroy the machines in the machine city and save the humans ?

Q: Trying to identify 1980's young-adult Television show

AlexI'm trying to identify an old show. Late 1980s, possibly 90s. Details that I can remember are as follows - Set on a farm, surrounded by woodland and near a swamp. Involved a long-crashed alien ship (possible A.I), fragments are hidden over the area. One part, utilised by the farm as a weath...

Ancient Aliens is an American television series that premiered on April 20, 2010, on the History channel. Produced by Prometheus Entertainment in a documentary style, the program presents hypotheses of ancient astronauts and proposes that historical texts, archaeology, and legends contain evidence of past human-extraterrestrial contact. The show has been criticized for presenting pseudoscience and pseudohistory. The series' de facto pilot was a TV special of the same name that aired on March 8, 2009, on the History channel. Seasons 1–3 aired on the same channel until 2011. From season 4 to the...

Ancient astronauts (or ancient aliens) is a pseudoscientific concept based on the belief that intelligent extraterrestrial beings visited Earth and made contact with humans in antiquity and prehistoric times. Proponents suggest that this contact influenced the development of modern cultures, technologies, and religions. A common claim is that deities from most, if not all, religions are actually extraterrestrial in origin, and that advanced technologies brought to Earth by ancient astronauts were interpreted as evidence of divine status by early humans. The idea that ancient astronauts actually...

I indeed liked the early seasons; but due to lack of time, had to switch it off from my routine; moreover, they are are circling the same things again and again in the new seasons.

Do they cofused between paras pattar and Brahmastra too

@AnkitSharma Philosopher's Stone or Sorcerer's Stone ;P Kinda, they messed up between the two.

user116211
Trickster returned; I really like Mark Hamill - this time it was more Joker y ;)

user116211
Reading IGN's review:

user116211
> This was the closest we’ll probably ever get to seeing Hamill playing the Joker in live-action. It was neat seeing him pay homage to Joker’s main inspiration, and neater still to see both Hamill and John Wesley Shipp reviving their rivalry from the 1990 Flash series.

user116211
History repeats itself.

user116211
5:19 PM
Jay is always awesome; he is now like the real old Flash - the first Flash with lots of experiences.

user116211
> on the Julian front, they really are leaning hard on the Harry Potter connections, aren’t they. The Draco Malfoy similarities were already pretty obvious, and now he’s rambling on about the Philosopher’s Stone? Next we’ll find out his archaeology assistants were named Crabbe and Goyle.

user116211
Indeed ;P

@MAFIA36790 I said the same when I seen the trailer

user116211
@AnkitSharma But it was so small time; I wanted more of him :(

Me too but he is busy man
It was just a cameo

user116211
5:21 PM
Every Christmas he does return.

user116211
@AnkitSharma hmm

@MAFIA36790 lol
Julian's name is more like his comics counterpart now

user116211
> Savitar not a god, despite his claims, but someone from Barry’s future who feels personally wronged by the Scarlet Speedster. Given his intimate knowledge of everyone in the room, it’s not much of a stretch to suggest that one of them will become Savitar. My money is still on Wally.

Maybe they can bring more of his comics story now, split personality/brothel etc
My money is not on wally

user116211
Wasn't Savitar the first man to get speed?

5:24 PM
yes

user116211
How can then he be from future? Or am I misinterpreting something? How can Wally or any other be Savitar then? I thought the mystery is solved, isn't it?

He was trapped in future
nothing is solved yet

user116211
@AnkitSharma I mean Savitar is from the past. We don't know the name behind the mask yet; but surely it can't be from some in the future.

he can be form future and past both

user116211
@AnkitSharma O.o

user116211
5:27 PM
I'm confused now.

Like reverse flash

user116211
@AnkitSharma Thawne is a different case.

reverse flash from future stuck in past

user116211
Okay, let me chronologically jot down:

user116211
We see a man in the past getting the power of speed using the Brahmastra or sort of that.

user116211
5:30 PM
Julian opened the box in the Indus Valley excavation site and Savitar woke up again.

@MAFIA36790 call it philosopher stone for my sake

user116211
Wait, is he a SpeedForce-Ghost?

user116211
O.o

user116211
@AnkitSharma ;D

Savitr don't have speed force in comics
he steal power form other
here it seems he got it from philosopher stone

user116211
5:32 PM
@AnkitSharma Wait, let me check; although I am doubtful the writers are following the comics.

But how he got trapped in stone and came in past ?

user116211
1 min ago, by MAFIA36790
Wait, is he a SpeedForce-Ghost?

user116211
Each time the box gets closed, he vanishes.

user116211
He is indeed now a SpeedForce-Ghost, if he at any point of time was a man of flash and blood.

user116211
So, I'm not getting why the IGN guy is betting money on Wally for Savitar is a man/ ghost who got his powers in the past.

5:35 PM
IGN are bleh

user116211
I'm not seeing any future, unlike claimed by Savitar, I am the future, Flash bleh...

user116211
Savitar is bleh still ;(

Anyway we know who die but who will betray and who will have fate worse then death

user116211
@AnkitSharma Well, their likings resemble mine; so I read the review.

user116211
@AnkitSharma hmm

5:37 PM
I think cisco will betray and killer frost will ahve worse fate

user116211
> Barry gave Iris a very romantic Christmas present. He must use the same realtor Kara does over in National City, because I don’t understand how either character can afford such a swanky downtown apartment working the jobs they do.

user116211
;D

Or maybe wally or HR betray

user116211
@AnkitSharma Maybe

user116211
@AnkitSharma yes; I was thinking that.

user116211
5:38 PM
@AnkitSharma Although I'm unsure if the writers make Harrison Wells villain again.

Alchemy corrupted everyone then why not wally
@MAFIA36790 Betray doesn't means villain

user116211
@AnkitSharma They made him Kid Flash now.

user116211
@AnkitSharma point.

user116211
Maybe he would be minor Flash villain like the IGN guy predicted.

But whenever alchemy give power he corrupt them too and use as pawn, maybe wally is already a pawn and we don't know yet

user116211
5:40 PM
ohh

WE don't really know there end goals yet

user116211

user116211
Poor Santa and Darkseid ;P

My bets on wally to betray but not being savitr
Why nobody else talking, should I start pinging them ;)

user116211
@AnkitSharma Everyone is pissed off with Savitar, I guess ;P

5:45 PM
lol
So what should we talk about then
Open for suggestion

user116211

Q: Hobbit scenes with psychedelic mind combat

Neil SlaterIn both The Desolation of Smaug and Battle of the Five Armies, there are scenes where good characters face Sauron and there is an almost-psychedelic effect: This and similar effects continue, without dialog, for a few seconds, and it seems quite likely, to the point of being laboured, that som...

Q: Does FCC take context of the word when used on TV to censor it?

MyCodeSucksI'm recently watching "How I Met Your Mother" again, and I'm noticing some weirdness. In early seasons, the word "bitch" was used a couple of times, ie "I love being the person you bitch to". Yet in another episode much later, they censor it, ie "You're being a bitch". Was it censored due to the ...

Q: TV Mini Series with people that control Elements

DForck42I remember seeing a live action TV mini series on American TV between 2001 and 2007ish. It may have been on the Sci-Fi channel, but I am unsure. I know for a fact it wasn't on any premium channels, such as HBO, Showtime, etc. It only ran for 3-6 episodes, so it was definitely a mini-series. Th...

9:32 PM
@DForck42 Hello to you.

@John how goes it?

I am OK. I have learned a lot about this place since I joined 4 or so months ago. How long have you been around?

@John 7+ years

You are The Man! Lots of Yearling's. So you were here from the "beginning".
I guess I am still learning. I should have known who you were then.

@John I was part of the movie's beta
and the literature beta, that ultimately was closed
I was a temp mod on movies for a while

9:51 PM
@DForck42 Very well done. What induced Literature to close? Lack of participation or something?
