@MikeEdenfield Believe it or not, it was quite interesting and enjoyable.
As I expected, Fant4stic was definitely better than the internet wants it to be.
Sure, a few of the dialogues might have been a bit stilted at times, The Thing looked a bit lame (especially a pity since I like Billy Eliot Jamie Bell quite a bit) and maybe there wasn't so much action in it. But seriously, it was an interesting story with a nice atmosphere. If you don't expect a huge MCU spectacle, it was quite fine. Not a masterpiece, but the internet is expectedly exaggerating, as always.
@AnkitSharma What trilgoy?
@steelerfan By the way, don't use genre tags for questions about individual movies' stories, only for questions about the intricacies of the horror genre in general. You have enough reputation to create a tag.

2:50 AM
@TomCody my bad, I didn't think that I could create tags, I will edit my question with a new tag.
@TomCody Never mind...you did it for me. Thanks :)

@steelerfan Too late. ;-)

Awww, you're all so chummy now. So glad we got past that crazy rough patch... I can only deal with drama on once site at a time.

Ty O'BrienMy sister and I had a debate which wizard this was and I believe she was right. I'm just curious to see how many of you true fans could be wrong or not sure. So I'll leave this here for the polls. Sorry for the poor quality. However, it may help add some ambiguity.

@MovieReel No, we won't.

Q: movie about masked vigilante called "Scarecrow"

DavidCWhen I was in grammar school around 1980 they showed us a movie about a masked man similar to Zorro. I believed it opened with a scene in which he and another man fled on horseback while a song was sung in which the word "scarecrow" was repeated. I understood this to be the name of the masked her...

Q: What is the name of this movie about cancer?

user24578It starts off with the main teen boy character jogging to his girlfriends work. Later he finds out he has cancer. He lives with his father who I think is an alcoholic. They do not speak much. I think his older sister moves in to help out. He does not die at the end.

Q: What is the prop meth made of?

Dark ArmyI'm going to guess using the illegal drug would not be an option. So exactly which substance did they used as a prop for the crystal meth in Breaking Bad.?

0
Q: How does Walter know that the restaurant manager (Gus Fring) is the guy he was supposed to meet at the chicken restaurant?

Dark ArmyWe have seen that Walter goes to meet Gus Fring in Los Pollos Hermanos, but exactly how did Walter White identify that Gus Fring Who is the Restaurant manager is the guy whom he is supposed to met for meth business.

@steelerfan is the second part direct sequel to first one or is it like a spin-off

6:29 AM
@AnkitSharma it directly follows the first one.

@Movie Reel I can't take any more questions about meth today.

6:56 AM
@MovieReel I really, really want to downvote this one... They clearly didn't do a single Google search... I mean, I get that the new logo is ugly... but that shouldn't stop you from using Google.

@Catija so i am not the alone to dislike the logo
Anyways there was a old close reason for it "too localize" but SE took it down

@AnkitSharma I've heard about it but I'm not sure I understand what it meant... I thought it was something along the lines of "no one else would ever benefit from this question"... but that was a guess. I don't really think it's a bad question (if there weren't dozens of sites telling you what it is) but it has absolutely zero research done.
@AnkitSharma It looks like it's designed to appeal to 6-year-olds now.

@Catija Glad you answered the prop meth question, it is kind of amusing having all these meth questions :).....gotta love Breaking Bad!

7:13 AM
@steelerfan :D I've seen a few episodes, not much... but I like rock candy... and that question is the sort of question that goes really popular, so if it starts getting a lot of views from Google results, (which is why I retitled and retagged it), it could end up on the Hot Network Questions list.
I mean, look at it... the two questions he asked were posted at almost the same time and one has 4 views and the other has 18... :P

@Catija I have seen maybe 20 minutes of an episode, so I am not familiar with the show, except I know meth is involved. You are so right, they are popular. Dang, now I am craving rock candy:)
@Catija ACTUAL rock candy, there was no hidden meaning in my remark :)

@Catija @steelerfan you both are missing the fun. That show deserve to be loved.
@Catija still we are not in ads

7:30 AM
@AnkitSharma No, but we have spots in the sidebar... I never see those ads anyway. I only see the Community Ads because FF filters out all of the rest.
@AnkitSharma Do you want to turn this into a comment?... or I suppose just delete it... it's awfully chatty.

@Catija delete
@Catija i really want to see a image ad of our site from hot network.
But never noticed it, even have doubts that we are not shifted from bet -ad to launched-ad yet and lost in middle

Is there a meta question about it? I did a quick search and didn't see one.

don't know
I think i want to ask one for us
or ping CM in secret chat room

@AnkitSharma Yeah, that could work, too... Not sure who's in charge of it but it took some poking to get the Community Promotion ads, so maybe these are the same.

hmmm
I am tired of comments on my old hinduism.se answer.
Religious people get offended very easily

Yeah... that's why I'm not going near any of the religion stacks.

I like hinduism.se , even tried to get elected there. Got high votes on meta pro-temp mod suggestion post
BUt SE staff picked other people and now that site only have one active mod and he is the only one who answer 70% of the question

Ah. That's too bad. Maybe they will add more mods and you'll get to do it now... though, if they have such answer response, that could be problematic for them.
Wow, all of the mods have less than 2K rep except for him... and he has 16K. That's crazy

@Catija we also make jokes that SITE should be renamed to keshav.se :D
@Catija I suggested few meta post for community-ad, TOW etc etc but community response is near to 0.
Seems like a dying community
Just there question per day is better then many struggling beta site, that might be the reason for their survival for now

Q: What is the movie: Hired assassin for $1?

crazynameI remember there was a movie where one of the characters was a hired gun, who lived in a very nice house, was athletic (despite some health problem as child) and his price was 1 dollar (even the antagonist asked him "Why 1 dollar?") Some help, please?

2 hours later…
2:17 PM
@TomCody I enjoyed the first 1/2, maybe 2/3. Once the team got their powers, I felt like the rest of the movie was just a waste, with a rushed, not-well-thought-out climax crammed into the last 15 minutes.
they set up a really good movie then delivered none of it.

2:31 PM
I agree with @MikeEdenfield. There were some really nice ideas and promising set up in the first half that is 100% discarded in the second. You can literally see the studio meddling. I feel sorry for Joshua Trank, the director.

I think I was more disappointed because the movie's trailer seemed to hint at things that never ended up happening. Not just a few lines of dialogue here or there, but major events. Like there was a scene in the trailer that seemed to show Reed Richards cooperating with the Army and leading his team on a mission for them.

Well, sure. That's what I'm saying too. It might not have been as fleshed-out as it could have been (maybe by just making it half an hour longer). But I simply don't think it's that desaster that the internet, in it's well-known penchant for hyperbole, makes of it.

to be honest, I think the fact that it started out well and then fell totally apart makes it more of a disaster than a movie that was consistently mediocre.
it got my hopes up and then dash them against the rocks of broken dreams and poorly-directed third acts.

2:49 PM
I just don't think the last part was that bad, it was just a bit short. But who am I to argue that anyway, I already liked the previous Fantastic Four series, as well a the Amazing Spider-Man series and have fond childhood memories of the Super Mario Bros. movie.
And I have long been deaf upto averted to all the internet fan fuss crap that talks things so much down for stuff noone gives a damn about. But alas, so is the internet and has always been.
(^ The above remarks are a general statement and not driected at any chatters in this room, though, whose opinions I respect and apreciate.)

@MikeEdenfield 40 minutes of reshoots do that to a movie.
@TomCody It was just short, but that in itself led to poor setup, awful pacing, strange character choices and no pay off during the finale. It's a great example of how a film lacking in one area can impact other areas hugely.

@TomCody I liked the old FF #1. Not a huge fan of Silver Surfer. I also don't think that Fant4stic was as bad as people say.. I think it was better than Silver Surfer, or Elektra, or either Ghost Rider
but it's not a good movie.
I definitely have no interest in seeing that same team of people try to do a sequel

@MikeEdenfield Well, the producers would be deaf and blind if they'd consider that really.

I've heard good things about Deadpool, including that it would likely get F4-2's spot if it does well.

Though, if anything was fine it was the team IMHO (even if The Thing looked a bit lame, but well, it's not the most interesting character to begin with anyway).

3:02 PM
REALLY hoping an R-Rated superhero movie works. The TV-ME Daredevil on Netflix was really well done.
my complaints about the team were mostly from a mythology standpoint. Someone who's not a big F4 fan wouldn't even notice.
but they claimed that the suits (which Reed didn't even make) controlled their powers. Like, you can see a few times where Johnny flames on/off by fiddling with his wrists.

Meh, I'm not too sure about that Deadpool thing. I know the comics people love him, but I think one can do too much irony and self-reference and sarcasm in a single character/movie.
But well, the trailer does look nice indeed.

It depends on how heavily 4th-wall he goes.

@MikeEdenfield Granted, the only times I ever got in contact with comics was Watchmen and a few seminal Batman works.

3:18 PM
@MikeEdenfield Deadpool 2 and Fantastic Four 2 both have confirmed release dates. Fox are claiming that they are still pressing ahead with both, even after Fantastic Four flopped.

3:46 PM
@TomCody as suspected by us, movies and TV was not in the hot question image ad list.

@AnkitSharma Great, not that it would surprise me after what else I've experienced (first and foremost with the Community Promotion Ads and the graduation swag, of course).

And we missed the ad spot when we had few hot network question
I hope we will maintain hot question spot till we get a image

Not to think about all the poor sites that are part of the design-less graduation right now. I mean it's great for them that they graduate and it's a good idea to decouple that from the design. But one has to wonder if that doesn't remove the remaining bit of motivation to drive site design forward.
@AnkitSharma Well, they come and go anyway. But sure, with all those short Breaking Bad questions that was good HNQ bait (and better than an ID HNQ anyway).

That will give me more time to earn rep for anime n manga.se
As I am quite less active there
And lots to earn, maybe need to start fee anime , fullmetal alchemist maybe

In that way, coupling the higher reputation thresholds to the design, while baseless in itself, might be a good idea to at least keep a bit of motivation for SE to further the site designs.

3:54 PM
Anyways its quite irritating to chat from mobile, so catch u later
Hopefully I will get my WiFi broadband setup at house this week

Meh, I always wanted to get around trying at least a few pearls of Anime, since I have pretty much absolutely no background there but it just never really attracted me at all. I watched Akira, Ghost in the Shell and Princess Mononoke once and liked them, but that's about it. Maybe I'll try that Cowboy Bebop thing some day, seeing that it's so famous and has only a few episodes and doesn't seem to have thousand of confusing spin-offs.

isn't Cowboy Bebop mostly famous for not being about a Cowboy named Bebop?

@MikeEdenfield I've listened to the Yoko Kano sound track more than I've watched the show. It's great music.

Cowboy Bebop is absolutely worth checking out. Excellent story, and it's not a very long series. Could easily be binged in a single weekend.

By the way, did anyone notice that my prediction about the blue meth question was correct? It's up at over 500 views right now.

4:01 PM
@Catija Sure.

I didn't see what your prediction was, so I'll just say yes.

@Catija Yes, I saw that. I was going to comment earlier, but have been busy in NFL chat due to Tom Brady suspension being over turned for deflate gate....quite the controversy! I loved your question though.

@TomCody go for death note and code geass

@TomCody I do have to say... calling anything done by Miyazaki "anime" isn't really something I agree with. His art style is actually much more similar to American animation style, just happens to be that he's Japanese and his topics are often set around Japanese concepts.
@steelerfan My question? Meaning my only question? The one about The Matrix?

@Catija I like anime not because of there style but different content

4:05 PM
@Catija Meh, maybe.

There stories are more mature then American one
Death note and code geass are gema for me
Shorter and with good ending

@AnkitSharma Well, maybe if you compare them to other animated stuff. But why compare it thereto instead of to all the range of movies?

@AnkitSharma Have we been watching the same anime? Because most anime is: fight scene, fight scene, background episode, fight scene, fight scene, filler episode...

That's why I watch both and enjoy :D

Though, admittedly, I watch too much Bleach.

4:08 PM
It's similar to that Pixar hype for me. Great stories and characters, sure, but non-animated movies have that already, too.

@Catija only go for shorter anime.....the longer they are worse they become
Naruto was a good start but then filler ruined it........dragon ball also sucks because of longer fights and filler arcs
But there are good ones........many good ones

@AnkitSharma Yes, because watching two people try to fall in love for 23 episodes is just as fun. :P

@Catija Oh, you also have only a single question. Didn't notice that before. But well, you're way ahead of Walt at least.

@Catija Guess you've never seen Ai Yori Aoshi, Love Hina, Azumanga Daioh, etc.

4:10 PM
I even loved princess tutu
Cyborg 007 , yu gi oh ( something like that)

So man, it's been a bit arduous living with my parents and for the next two nights my sister until my wedding, but it's been made worse by having to sleep in rooms that don't have a TV....

@MattD I've read most of Love Hina... Never liked the art for Azumanga Daioh.

Rading manga seems boring to me
No colour no fun

... I used to work at a Borders and they would let us "check out" the books... so I've read a lot of manga.
@MattD When is it??? This weekend?

@Catija Saturday, so not much longer, but the fiancee also doesn't watch a lot of what I do so I'll likely need to watch shows and other stuff elsewhere in the house.

4:13 PM
Wedding always took our good users away
I think we lost one of old mod because of it

@AnkitSharma Well thanks you. :D

@AnkitSharma You'll be happy to know that I got married before I joined the site.

I don't think it'll pull me away, in fact I'm on here the most during work hours.

Anyways congrats @MattD

I"m on right now because I took the week off work. Sitting in my parent's living room with my MBP waiting for my uncle to be ready for lunch.
@AnkitSharma Thanks.

4:14 PM
Yeah, what's up with all these weird people preferring social relationships over movies, TV-shows and internet points!

But yeah, could take a little getting used to, not being able to watch what I want when I want. Katy and I have pretty different taste in shows most of the time.

So I am left alone eligible bachelor here

She's into lots of shows on HGTV and Food Network.

@AnkitSharma I don't think you're the only one... are you? Most people don't talk about their home life, so I'm not actually sure.

Food network is better then show like One tree hill, American housewives
Or Indian family dramas
@Catija yeah I know......just mentioned as joke

4:18 PM
Yeah, but the problem is a lot of their shows are all the same but with a different theme.
HGTV is basically, "Watch rich people decide between three houses in this location."
Food Network is alright, but even then you can only watch so many cooking competitions before you just don't care.

Hehehehe

@MattD Or get too hungry to bear it anymore.

I tried to get her to watch Breaking Bad. She found Walt and Jesse to be horrible people after the first episode and thus has no desire to continue watching it.

@AnkitSharma Or Korean dramas... Wow, those are insane.

I can tolerate food network till I get good food to eat
Never tried korean

4:20 PM
I was like yeah, you're not supposed to like Walt or even Jesse, that's the point and that's what makes it an engrossing, engaging show.

I think I mostly watched US one

We do watch Orange is the New Black. Also got her to give Daredevil a try and she likes it well enough.

Tried UK one too but US special effects are better and their accents are friendly to my ears

I wanna get her to watch Flash because she always reminds me the lead actor went to her college.

No offense to anyone ;)

4:22 PM
@MattD That's how I felt about GoT after the first two episodes... I couldn't deal with them doing bad stuff to undeserving people/animals... and then I kept watching anyway and now I like it.

I am still at Arrow season 1 , flash is in queue

@Catija GoT is something I'll have to work her into.
But yeah, I'm used to coming home and plopping down to Cartoon Network and Adult Swim after work, so those days are likely done, at least to the level I'm used to.

@MattD Just tell her that the first two episodes are really hard but it gets less horrid as it continues.

@Catija Until the Red Wedding. :P

@MattD Do you guys not live together already?

4:23 PM
No. She's a youth pastor so that's a no-no.

@MattD But Flash is also decidedly much more "comicky" than, say, Daredevil or even Arrow.

@MattD Meh. It was bad but it wasn't a kid or a giant dog, so it didn't hurt as bad.

That's why I've been at my parent's all week. She moved all her stuff in last weekend.

@MattD Yeah, I figured that might be the case but... that was never one of the "rules" I liked much and I know a lot of people who don't keep it.

@Catija Well she made it very clear that certain...things, would not occur outside of marriage, but she further stated it wasn't because she was against them, but that she didn't want to have to lie to the kids in the youth group. That's not really something you can refute, and me backing out because of that would have made me the asshole.
I figured I've waited this long and I feel she's worth it, what's a little longer?

4:27 PM
@MattD I read Savage Love... and sexual incompatibility is a thing... But I get what you're saying.

Q: Is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part One really leaving Netflix this september?

Nancy StuartI searched the netflix website, but didn't find anything about hunger games leaving netflix. Read in a blog that the hunger games is leaving netflix. Is it true? Pleae tell me because it was my favorite!

@MovieReel Why would you think Netflix would announce the fact that they're losing a ton of highly popular movies? They're gonna bury that news as deep as they can.

@MovieReel I sincerely don't really think this is on-topic... It's skirting the "don't ask about where to get media" rule.

4:34 PM
Close it

they're not really asking where to get the movie. they know where to get the movie.

@Catija Well, it's about time the community starts close-voting that thing. So just help yourself. ;-)

@AnkitSharma But I don't know if it's actually fitting the rule.

it's more a question about the business practices related to (legal) online movie viewing. Not sure where that fits.
but as it's also not speculative, not asking for opinion, and not asking anything illegal, probably no harm in letting it stay?

It's a support request for a third party site, which just happens to have a relation to the general topic of mvoies, though.

4:35 PM
Closed

@TomCody it's more of a "news" question. "Is this news I just read about true?"

@MikeEdenfield If that's the case (which might make it on-topic), the author did his best to hide that aspect, though.

Completely mis-tagged, though.

@MikeEdenfield That's off-topic, too, though...

@Catija It, ahem, depends, I guess, maybe...
Which brings us back to good old "current events", I guess.

4:38 PM
@TomCody I know... I know...
I think the reason it didn't get CVed is that no one could decide what reason to use on their VTC.
Anyway, whether a film is going to be on Netflix or not is not about the film itself, it's about Netflix, which isn't a topic we cover here.

@Catija That might be the case. Admittedly the community isn't entirely decided about those Netflix/IMDb/RottenTomatoes/whateveryourfavouritemoviewebsite support request questions anyway, althought we've gone a stricter line with those lately.

that's why I didn't VTC or not. I was iffy on the topic of "general media sites".
We would definitely take questions about, say, "Marvel Unlimited" (a place to get comic books) on SF&F because it's so heavily connected to our topic. but probably wouldn't take one about Amazon.
even though you can buy comic books there.

@Catija It might be made on-topic by employing some kind of broader angle, though. But that particular question really wasn't anything else than Netflix support.

2
Q: Netflix questions

DForck42Should questions about availability of movies on netflix or agreements Netflix has made over movies be allowed? I don't have anything specific in mind otherwise I'd ask it to get an honest opinion.

There's also this:
3
Q: Are questions regarding a movie website On-Topic?

Ankit SharmaToday when I saw this question What happened to IMDB to cause ratings to be skewed? I got little confused and even posted one close-vote but it's in a good Q/A format but is it in our boundaries? I mean are we going to allow question on Movie websites rating patterns or other similar prospective...

@MikeEdenfield Well, it's a difficult borderline case, I think. There's also Music Fans which, at least when I last looked, seems to go a much more fan-based approach than a content/work-based approach, meaning what concerns music fans is on-topic (which also seems to be the primary motivation for allowing recommendations) and might speak more for allowing website support requests.

4:47 PM
true, and your Help Center just barely manages to miss this case.
it's not about a movie's production but it is about something closely related to movies in general: their distribution and availability.
shrug
I could argue either way.

Well, as I said, the community isn't that crystal clear about it, I think, even if we closed quite a bit of those things in the past. (Which is why I'd have liked to see some non-mod close-votes on that question, too.)

I guess the real problem with such a question is, will it be useful in 3 months?
by then it's either gone or not gone, or even gone and come back.

@MikeEdenfield Sure, and might be rewordable this way, but that question currently isn't. More often than not it just comes down to proper phrasing. But I also think that question is not that easily rewordable into a more commonly interesting question.

then again, we constantly field questions about the movie studio deals between Disney/Fox/Sony/etc from 10 years ago :)
perhaps a better question might be "What movies were distributed by Epix and are affected by their Netflix deal?" but that ends up being a list.

@MikeEdenfield Which is another difficult aspect (and its unclarity the reason for the recent retirement of the dubious "current events" close reason).

4:50 PM
meh. it's closed, over it :)

@MikeEdenfield Sure, but those are likely to have some historical significance. This question isn't about anything significant like that on the surface...
@MikeEdenfield Or, "How as the recent separation between Netflix and Epix affected the movies that are available on those sites?"
@MikeEdenfield I see why you're in here... Ugh.

@Catija I was referring to your rock candy answer for a meth prop....sorry, I am behind. I was going to comment on the popularity of it.

@steelerfan Oh, Gotcha. You said "question" so I was confused :P

Afterall, that thing was just too much bordering "trivia", "puchase/download request" and "site support request", even if not downright fullfilling any of those exactly.

@Catija you mean mos eisley? yes, and I'm the one that started it over there :)

4:55 PM
@MikeEdenfield Oh, I see... sowing discontent and strife and then slowly wandering off to let others deal with the aftermath... you're the Devil, aren't you.

basically, yes.

?_?

this one's a particularly fun one because we have several died-hard (pro-gun) conservatives and multiple people from the UK in the same room.

:D You all certainly do talk about a lot of politics/religion over there...

it always sets @Richard off.
ah crap, now he's gonna come in here.

4:56 PM
@MikeEdenfield Wow, you are devious...

@MikeEdenfield Should I go in there and start asking about comic-con costumes again? That seemed to get everyone on a new topic fairly quickly :)

@steelerfan tell them you want to make your own She-Hulk costume and ask for ideas.

@steelerfan Ooooh... or maybe... um... a fight about whether "Han shot first"... it would at least be related to the gun debate?

Han shot first won't work. Of course he did.

@MikeEdenfield I know... but... Meh.

4:59 PM
@Catija That won't work in a room full of die-hard fans. I'm not you'll find many people arguing the opposite there at all.
You could ask Trek vs Wars maybe. Or LotR vs Potter (or whatever other important non-filmed book things exist in that regard). Or of course DC vs Marvel.

@TomCody But she could... and that would get them all argue-y... maybe... or just get her kicked out entirely.

@MikeEdenfield thanks, but no thanks. I did get my Gotham Rogue costume, maybe I will pop in and let them know :)

@steelerfan Post pictures. I'm sure that would get some attention :D

@Catija have not got that far yet, just came fed ex this morning! I will post some after the event. I am starting to get busy at work, so I will go in that room in a few and let them know :)

5:26 PM
Ok, we might have reached a saturation of actually good and on-topic Breaking Bad questions now.

If you want to see "saturation", check out the SF&F Futurama event from a few years ago.
"Ask any futurama question you want, chance to win a prize"
