Q: Help me identify a comedy

crazynameSorry for bothering you again. I remember a scene in a comedy, where the two main characters were looking through a binoculars, spotting a dog (bulldog, pitbull or another vicious kind, can't remember) and they shot it with an air gun just to make it angry and attack it's master. However I can't...

fabrice dIn Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Micmacs à Tire Larigot, there are several occurrences where we can see the posters of the film in the movie sets or on props. What's the meaning of this?

askvictorThe main thing I remember is a scene where they are playing a capture-the-flag type of sport which contains 4 teams, and starts with all teams climbing a large ricketty structure to get the 'ball' , the structure then collapses. Much kungfuery ensues. I thought it was an earlier Jackie Chan numbe...

Q: Are we too strict with "identify this movie by a single scene" questions?

hisA recent identify-this-movie question got downvoted fast and got the usual "more information" comment. The question asks to identify a movie by a single scene but gives no further information about country of origin, language, estimated year of release etc. The scene described is catchy, though, ...

11:38 AM
I know I said I was going to shut up about this, but I literally can't believe you guys use a tag to identify questions relating to Disney, but wont allow the tag in a similar manner.

11:49 AM
@DrRDizzle Well, the tag is actually way more worse than the tag and its abolishment is already on my list, so...
@AnkitSharma Well, it's a shame when going through the users list and seeing people with 50 posts, 4000 reputation and, what, 20 votes? Something clearly doesn't work there and people just friggin' don't vote.

@TomCody So despite the support of the Help Page and the Site Tour for the use of the tag, the success of the tag on another site and this site actually having a precedent for tags used in that manner, it still isn't a valid argument?
facepalm

@DrRDizzle My god, I have said that I am not entirely decided about that tag and that you have valid and interesting arguments. I'm not really sure what you want to hear right now. There is a meta post on it and the community actively and constructively votes on it. What is your actual point right now?

it's not fair to use bad examples of M&TV tagging to support your argument any more than it's fair to use bad examples of SF&F tagging.

...I can't help the feeling that you just want to enforce a decision without looking at the respective meta post just so that us damn idiots finally get that MCU tag is the only true way to go. I'm sorry to dissapoint, but this decision isn't made in chat. You remark about the disney tag was justified and that's a problem we're aware of. But what is your actual point in bringing the MCU tag discussion up yet again. What do you really want to hear right now?

@MikeEdenfield A precedent is a precedent. I didn't know that it was considered a bad one until just now.

11:56 AM
@DrRDizzle that's fine, but now that we know that it's considered a bad precedent, its no longer fair to continue to refer to it as such.
otherwise we'd be making character tags out the wazoo.

@TomCody All I want - and I've said this multiple times - is an easy way to find questions I want to answer. You are 100% correct that I will attempt to make that site policy.

@DrRDizzle And this is fine. Which still doesn't explain why you then promptly steered away from the disney tag into a discussion we have had in exactly that same form at sufficient length.

Also, the description says "This tag should be used for questions pertaining to cartoon shorts, films and television shows created or distributed by The Walt Disney Company, along with the relevant tags for the specific media" so it isn't like the tag is being misused as it currently stands.

@DrRDizzle I know that, we all know that, and there's a constructive meta post that explains this. What I do not know is why you bring it up yet again in chat where we know we won't reach any consensus, especially when talking about the exact same things we already did.

@TomCody Because it adds weight to my argument, at least until you pointed out that the tag is considered bad.

12:01 PM
@DrRDizzle Well, see a problem with the Disney tag? Adress it on meta. In fact this is what I wanted to do after the MCU decision is fixed. Alas, this didn't really ever happen so far and I just forgot about it. So...when will the tag and the tag finally disappear from SciFi? Or do you actually not know that those are bad tags?

we mostly keep around for story-id questions.
try to consolidate all of the evil in one place where I can ignore it

@TomCody I don't see a problem with the Disney tag - it seems like a helpful way for someone to find questions that they might be interested in.

@DrRDizzle I have laid out my arguments for why it is bad and have agreed that there are valid and interesting arguments for why it is good. Really, there is no actual information gained by just repeating the exact same chat comments from a week ago.

@TomCody What is the policy on tagging questions with genre?

@DrRDizzle Look on meta, there's resources about it. In short Don't tag with the genre unless it pertains to the intricacies of the genre or is an ID question (with the latter currently under consideration).

Q: Indentify this movie where a camper driver die by drugs overdose

DarioOOI saw some time ago a movie where a camper driver goes on holiday with his daughter (10 years old or somewhat), they find a country abandoned home. The driver then use drugs and dies by overdose, the daughter think he's sleeping and play around the house for some days meeting the strange people ...

@TomCody this even inspired me to use all my votes for today.

I've just found a meta answer from you arguing in favour of franchise tags by the way.

@DrRDizzle All the relevant arguments are actually in the respective meta post and have been repeated at length in chat. You are free to agree or disagree with any arguments you like/don't like, but asking over and over again for other arguments won't bring any new ones up out of nowhere.
@DrRDizzle Sure, that's one aspect that might speak in favour of the MCU tag.

The meta question about the MCU tag was posted a month ago. The two positive rated answers both support the use of the tag on all questions related to the MCU. The only negative rated answer wants to keep it as it is now. How long until the top rated answer is accepted and this practice can be put into use?

@DrRDizzle At the moment any practice can be used anyway, since there is no clear decision. The top thing has +7/-5 and the next best thing has +6/-5. There just doesn't seem to be a clear consensus. So maybe the community just genuinely isn't sure how to handle it. We have to live with that. So it's pretty much a free for all when using the MCU tag (as long as users don't feel obliged to edit 100 old questions for it).
Bleh, now the uninformed discussions about our tagging policy is continued in the Comics.SE chat. Meh, should they have it, maybe they come back when they reached a consensus and let us know of the solution in a constructive meta discussion.

12:18 PM
wait, there's a comics.se?

@MikeEdenfield scifi=comics

that'll get confusing when the actual comics.se opens up...

@MikeEdenfield Ah, my fault, sorry.

@DrRDizzle now that question don't have disney tag......

Q: Paradox in Back to the future II?

PaulWhen Biff returns to 2015A, he disappears probably because Lorraine shot him in the 1996A or because in fact, he doesn't match with the Biff-A of 2015A so the original old Biff no longer exists and fade out of existence. Is it a paradox? I mean: If there isn't a Biff-A in 2015A because he died...

@MikeEdenfield long way to go for them

yeah I don't see them getting very far.

There is still no decision of merging it with web comics
There aim is also bit blurry

it won't let me join area51 :(

what?

12:24 PM
I think it's a site problem; I get an error trying to get to the openid page to create an account.

ahhhh....

anyway, go leave a comment on that one question about overlap and point out that of the 12 "sample questions" they have, 11 of them are covered by M&TV, SF&F, or Anime :)

never noticed thing like that

the only one that's iffy is "What is the first comic written by Walt Disney?"

Even we had that bugs bunny question
Partialy answering it

12:27 PM
that last sample question was taken from SF&F from like 4 days ago.

@MikeEdenfield that will not make them go much far

they need to come up with sample questions that differentiate them from us; I think there's plenty of material that's comics but not SF&F or Anime.

They have potential but the overlap and lesser support migth kill them

Cartoons will be a problem because, as I understand it, a cartoon is by definition a movie or TV show?

@MikeEdenfield reminding me of 18+ cheap comics :D
@MikeEdenfield That's what i also think.

12:29 PM
I mean, DC means "Detective Comics".. they used to be about non-superhero stuff.
those would probably fall outside SF&F's purview and into that proposal. So focus on those.

I know very less comics outside superhero stuff.
In INdian comics there are many which are not scifi
mostly funny ones

12:51 PM
@TomCody Well what would you consider a consensus? Surely this is a majority rule situation?

@DrRDizzle I don't know, a +4 or +5 maybe, given that there are so many downvotes.
So phone 2-3 SciFi colleagues and the problem's solved, I guess. ;-)

@TomCody I don't think that is ever going to happen. There aren't enough users who care enough.

1:13 PM
Change of topic might work in here

Indeed. I don't really know what's about those goddamn fridays. Everyone's just bored out of their minds or what? So...what's the new topic then?

@TomCody The Marvel Frinematic Fruniverse tag.
I think it needs deleting.
That was a joke by the way.

I know, the fact that such a tag doesn't exist helped to understand that.

@TomCody All part of the hilarity my friend

Arrowverse tag will come soon to overrule
huahahhhahha
I might complete season 1 this weekend

1:19 PM
Yeah, Arrowverse my ass
Have they actually decided yet how they want to call the DC movie thing?

atleast we will make a better name the scifi.se :D

?_?

@TomCody If you are talking about the Man of Steel universe, the DC Extended Universe is the official name

Ooops...i though you were talking about tv series

@AnkitSharma Are you saying that DC-CW-TV isn't a really well named tag?
So natural and obivous

1:21 PM
@DrRDizzle i don't like the sound of it
The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is an American media franchise and shared fictional universe that is centered on a series of superhero films, produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and based on characters that appear in publications by DC Comics. The shared universe, much like the original DC Universe in comic books, will be established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters. The first film released in the DCEU was Man of Steel (2013), a reboot of the Superman film series. The next film to be released will be Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), followed by Suicide...
@TomCody ^ this is offical for movie verse

@AnkitSharma Yeah, its a bad name. But I think it's the best we have ATM

@DrRDizzle most fan favorite is arrowverse

Then I'm glad we don't need a DC TV tag yet. (And is to land on the same trash as and anyway.)

@AnkitSharma That would be like calling the MCU the Ironmanverse. I don't like it.

@DrRDizzle ATM?

1:23 PM
@AnkitSharma at the moment

OHHHH
i am bad in this short forms

@AnkitSharma np lol

@TomCody next year two DEU films coming, so we might need that tag.

@AnkitSharma Automatic Transaction Machine, obviously.

^LOL :D

1:24 PM
@AnkitSharma You mean DCEU. The movie tag, sure, I was talking about the TV thing.

@TomCody TV thing also might need universe tag. Vixen and legend of tomorrow coming. Constantine making cameo.......so one day he might have his own season hopefully
Anyways i never liked Vixen ( i am not racist but didn't like whole concept of her)

Meh, when they got their first actual cross-show questions we'll see, I guess.

@DrRDizzle what about buffyverse then? It have angel too but its always called like that

Is Supergirl actually in the same universe (if you tell me no, because it's a different TV channel, I'm going to scream)?

@TomCody No, because it is a different TV channel.
Im not joking.

1:28 PM
AAAAHHHHHH!

Keep supergirl away from it

@AnkitSharma I have never seen Buffy, so I have no real opinion on it. But as far as I am aware, Angel was a spin-off from Buffy, not a seperate thing set in the same universe.

Looks teen girl drama to me

@AnkitSharma I like the luck of it. I think I'm just looking forward to see someone with an S on their chest not angrily pouting for 2 hours of grey, drab destruction and faux-philosophical bullshit.
10 points if you can guess what I think about Man of Steel

@DrRDizzle you dislike it or doesn't care about it O-o

1:31 PM
@DrRDizzle Probably as much as all the other internet haters, I guess.

@AnkitSharma 10 points!
@TomCody I think it's a great example of how not to make a Superman movie.

@DrRDizzle when u said you liked supergirl...then it was obvious :D
@DrRDizzle I like man of steel.
I am bored of old superman, this one was fresh for me
And looks like will work good for the concept of batman v superman
From trailers

@AnkitSharma I dont think so. I'm looking forward to Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, but not because of Man of Steel.

I am more interested in Suicide squad but positive for BvS too
More the civil war
Which is too crowded to set in 2 hour film

@AnkitSharma I couldn't be more excited for Captain America: Civil War. I trust Marvel Studios enough to balance this film, and I am pumped to see how these characters and their relationships to one another develop.

1:36 PM
I found it interesting how the new movie actually seems to listen to all those people who were so up in arms about all those destroyed buildings and uses it as a premise.

@TomCody It's interesting, but I doubt it was planned. I don't have that much faith in Snyder.

Pff, if it wasn't it's still a good move.

@TomCody Man of Steel?

@DrRDizzle it didn't worked for me in age of ultron and civil war seems like same crowded film to me

@DrRDizzle No, the usage of this whole "he destroyed all the precious Metropolis" argument as premise for the new movie. (But yeah, Man of Steel was a good mov(i)e, too, apart from that.)

1:39 PM
@TomCody I get you now. It makes me laugh that Captain America: Civil War was set to be released on the same day as Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice until DC backed down. Two superhero films dealing with (broadly speaking) the same subject on the same day would have been an interesting box office competition.
@TomCody Man of Steel sucks.

@DrRDizzle Indeed.

@DrRDizzle interesting box office competition or a dumb risky decision ?'

@DrRDizzle No, it doesn't. ;-P

@AnkitSharma Both.

@DrRDizzle no it doesn't. This give a vibe that u like superman returns?

1:41 PM
But it's interesting how they always get so hung up about the opening day when the majority of people watch those things later anyway.

@TomCody opening day is always fun

@AnkitSharma I liked that too for it's extremely overly nostalgic approach. But yeah, quite bit different than Man of Steel (and wouldn't have worked with Batman at all).

When i miss a film in first week, i mostly don't go for them in theater

@TomCody I was genuinely looking forward to Man of Steel. I was pumped to see a Nolan produced Superman film, excited to see what a director as stylisticly unique as Snyder could bring to the table and curious about how these two things could be the start of a new Cinematic Universe.
@TomCody Instead I got a boring and muddled version of the Superman mythology that killed my enthusiasm for the character and Zac Snyder almost overnight.

@DrRDizzle And then were disappointed because those guys brought exactly those traits to the table that they were known for?

1:44 PM
@TomCody Zac Snyder doing a Nolan impressions is neither Nolan nor Snyder.
@TomCody And the script... good lord the script.

@DrRDizzle Granted, I have zero comics background anyway.

@TomCody Never trust Goyer with anything ever.

@DrRDizzle now you are against goyer too
Goyer have done a great job many times

@TomCody I have nearly none. But I know that Pa Kent encouraging Clark to let people die is basically blasphemy.
@AnkitSharma Like Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Blade: Trinity and Jumper?

1:46 PM
@DrRDizzle Which wasn't what said exactly, though. We're getting into internet exaggeration territory there, I think.

@DrRDizzle i liked jumper
Ghost rider is dead to me now.......i am afraid of getting bored to death from it

Goyer's ability as a writer is directly related to who ends up filming his scripts. He is as bland as bland can be.

Well, looking at Wikipedia, I have to agree at least partly that Dark City and the first Blade seems to be the only notable work from him (apart from his amazing Nolan collaborations, of course).

Nolans movie were great but they can never form a DC univesre.

@AnkitSharma Sure, which noone expects from them. Afterall that's why they had to reboot all the crap after 2 years.

1:52 PM
@AnkitSharma Why? We could easily pretend that Ben Afflecks Batman is the same as Christian Bale's Batman.

@DrRDizzle Oh god, please not! (I hope that was just a joke.)

@TomCody As far as I am aware, the mythology of the DCEU is that Batman is retired now. That would work fine with the end of The Dark Knight Rises.

Q: What did the Elves go after the Helm's deep battle in LOTR?

hero007In the Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Part 2: The Two Towers), Where do the Elves go after the battle in the Helm's deep? The next morning when they (Aragorn and others) open the gates and charge forward, we do not see any Elves (the ones who were commanded by Haldir)? In the movie its the scene righ...

@TomCody There is no "canon clash" or anything.

@DrRDizzle Yeah, apart from entirely different characters, no stupid comic universe, and a Bruce Wayne who won't ever ever ever ever EVER return to the job as Batman again, let alone to Gotham city.

1:55 PM
@TomCody I can fully see Bale's Bruce Wayne putting the mask on again if an alien smashed up Gotham's sister city.

Besides the fact that he isn't Bruce Wayne either anymore, he's lost everything.

@TomCody I had forgot he faked his death though. Still, no reason that can't be undone - Bruce Wayne is well known to be eccentric in the Dark Knight trilogy

@DrRDizzle Which would be entirely besides the point of the whole Dark Knight trilogy
Getting rid of Batman is one of the greatest achievements this movie trilogy brought to the genre of superhero films and is only possible because it's a completely finished trilogy without any sequels.

@TomCody You really think the executives at Warner Bros give two hoots about the themes of a trilogy that made them billions? They did offer Bale a lot of money to return as Batman.

@DrRDizzle aliens, aqua people and amazone warrior in nolan batman verse

1:59 PM
@DrRDizzle No, that's why they can reboot their stuff just fine. But claiming it's the exact same universe and character would just be crap, and is unneccessary anyway.

sounds off to me

@TomCody I'm not suggesting that we do. I'm suggesting that the plot of BvS doesn't depends on Batman being "new".
@AnkitSharma People would have said the same thing about aliens, Gods and magic in Iron Man's universe when the MCU first started.

@DrRDizzle Not new maybe, but a different incarnation/character/universe than the previous Batman movies.

Dark night rises and BvS both inspired from same comics ....so retired batman.....nothing else seems similar
@DrRDizzle Iron-man never been made "realistically real" like nolan's film

@AnkitSharma That's my point. Years after The Dark Knight Rises, an alien invasion causes Bruce Wayne to rethink his decision to retire as Batman.

2:02 PM
But as much as I know from my experience with James Bond, there will definitely be some idiots who'll desparately try to shoehorn some stupid shared continuity into all this, and maybe Warner will even facilitate this by some little allusions. But as long as it stays on this level, everything should be fine.

@AnkitSharma In the Suicide Squad trailer, someone (Amanda Waller?) talks about how Superman appearing bought all the freaks out into the open, or something to that effect, which implies that the fantastical elements of the universe are new.

@DrRDizzle when they reduced bane's power and catwoman made as normal thief . It will be unfair to add alien later

@AnkitSharma I don't think so. I'm glad they aren't resuing Bale and the trilogy that Nolan created, but I don't think it would be as odd as you are suggesting.

@DrRDizzle it can be made like that but will be too restricted
@DrRDizzle didn't given that detailed approach to the trailer

@AnkitSharma I am so sure someone mentioned that in the Suicide Squad trailer. I can't look it up now.

2:07 PM
Will give it a look later

@MovieReel So there's and and you picked that one?

^ I am mesmerized by the decision
Is there any official work on red hulk in civil war?

I'm still interested to see what Wonder Woman will be. As a total comics ignoramus that character has always seemed so entirely ridiculous to me, but maybe they'll make her work somehow.

@TomCody She was great in DCAU

2:22 PM
@AnkitSharma regarding Red Hulk - no word so far. Would probably be a spoiler anyway, unlikely to find out either way until film is released
@TomCody I can't speak for how the film will treat her (obviously), but I think Gal Gadot is completely unsuited to the role.

Well, for one she looks quite nice at least. (One might feel compelled to say "a hot gal, indeed!", no pun intended.)

@TomCody She's too skinny. Wonder Woman is meant to be powerful looking.
@TomCody She posted up a picture of her flexed bicep a while ago, and I actually laughed out loud at it. I've seen babies with better muscle defintion.

3:22 PM
Wonder woman never looks strong in the comics, she just is strong.
compare her physique to the men:

@MikeEdenfield She isn't Gal Gadot skinny though

Q: Old SNL Skit with Father Guido Sarducci making up new movie rating?

Joe MI'm trying to remember a skit where Father Guido Sarducci was on during the news segment of Saturday Night Live where he was talking about the new PG-13 rating, I believe. He transitioned to his idea (or maybe it was the Pope's, or Catholicism's in general) about a rating called PG-72 (or somewhe...

in Mos Eisley, 8 mins ago, by Dr R Dizzle
@MikeEdenfield I did, it's @Catija who restarted it over here.
Uh, no. But nevermind. ;-)

@TomCody I'd stopped talking about it. @Catja restarted the discussion.

@DrRDizzle Only because she saw it discussed out of context and based on incomplete information. What was she supposed to do, just shut up and do nothing? She rather shouldn't have brought it up, but I don't blame her for doing so.

@TomCody That doesn't change that fact that I didn't restart the conversation.

Pff, sure. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm really tired of the caustic "I'm going to talk shit about M&TV in Mos Eisley and hope I can get away with it"... It's making this situation worse.

3:48 PM
@Catija I wasn't "talking shit". I was pointing out to people who may or may not be interested in the now infamous meta-question that there was a precedent for franchise tags.

@DrRDizzle Except it's not a precedent. 90% of the questions about Disney films do not follow that "tagging rule"...

@Catija I'm just going on what the tag wiki says.

Let's please all just calm down a little. I'd rather err on the side of caution and give Mr. Dizzle the benefit of the doubt that it wasn't for entirely malicious reasons that he just complained about a tagging policy in a place where there's noone to solve the matter anyway. Neither would I blame Catija for bringing it up again when seeing such a situation. I think we might just want to let that rest now and hug each other.

@DrRDizzle That's not even in the excerpt... which is what most people actually read.

@Catija So? It's still in the tag wiki.
@TomCody That's Dr Dizzle to you. I have a PHD in watching MCU films.

3:52 PM
As Catija said, we're not really making the situation better now. The situation with te tag has been explained to Mr. Dr. Dizzle already to some degree and we talked about the matter already today. Can we please just the fuck stop getting worked up on this yet again?

@DrRDizzle Not any more... Or it won't be when the tag edit is approved.

@DrRDizzle Meh, I hope our users won't get so worked up about a single "fuck". <arrogant emoticon> ;-P
2

@TomCody Forever starring that comment.

careful.. you'll end up with 9 mods and 2 cms in here before you know it

3:55 PM
Oh god, there even was , too? The hell!

@TomCody Can I borrow that <arrogant emoticon> for second? Thanks.

@MikeEdenfield With pretty much 4 active users chatting I, uh, doubt that. And if we will, I know who flagged it, muhahaha!

actually, we were informed yesterday that certain words get auto-flagged?

@MikeEdenfield I don't think that's even true, though. I've had my share of "fuck"s in here, I think.

@MikeEdenfield I think that was a cover. I'm skeptical, to say the least.

3:58 PM
you're a mod, tho. @Richard got away with it just fine, @DrRDizzle got banned :)

@MikeEdenfield I'm not a mod and I've dropped the occasional f-bomb.

@MikeEdenfield Well, I might not be bannable for it (though, I'm not even sure of that), but I'm pretty sure my messages are not downright unflaggable.
Pro-tip: Use a chatroom where there's hardly ever anyone around (and those who are don't bother about such things). ;-)

@MikeEdenfield My reaction when I got banned.

@Catija Thank you very much for the and cleanup! Next stop and , which can completely disappear actually. But maybe that's worth a meta post, would have to assess how heavily they're used.

4:07 PM
@TomCody You said "Ass"... I'm gonna flag. Anyway, happy to do it. If I'd realized it was like that, I'd have done it sooner... so, thanks to @DrRDizzle for bringing it up.

@Catija You are welcome. But really you need to thank whoever posted the Gravity Falls question which I noticed it on.

@DrRDizzle I don't even know what Gravity Falls is... actually... hmmm.

@Catija It's a kids cartoon show. It's really quite good.

@Catija I realized it was as bad, but I intended to go the safe and slow route of a meta post. Thanks for taking that burden from me.

@TomCody I may eventually agree (begrudgingly) to the MCU thing... but I will never agree to a Disney tag...

4:11 PM
Exactly. Or and , I mean, they're not even production studios but friggin' book publishers.

@TomCody Yeah. And if "Disney" became a thing, we'd have to tag half of the questions with it... including any Star Wars questions.

@Catija And Marvel ones.

@Catija Even worse, it leads to a road of tagging every crap with the production studio/TV channel.

Marvel Studios is a production studio

@DrRDizzle I'm still trying to keep that ownership separate in my head... But... think about it, with Disney and MCU, there'd only be three tags left for the actual MCU question.

4:14 PM
@MikeEdenfield Which holds no bearing for any significant context, though. Marvel comic stuff is filmed by various studios and everything that actually comes out of Marvel Studios is MCU anyway.

@TomCody Don't most Marvel films carry the Marvel Studios indent, regardless of whether Fox or Disney produces them?

@Catija Yes.

All marvel films are required to have the Marvel bit at the beginning, yes.

That's what I thought.

@Catija No, they have the Marvel logo, for being about Marvel comics properties. But Marvel Studios is only the film studio that makes the MCU stuff, as a branch of Marvel Comics/Disney/whomever. Other things are done by Fox/Sony/whomever.

4:16 PM
@TomCody Kevin Fiege is listed as an exec producer on most (all?) Marvel films though, even non-MCU ones. So I can see why someone might be confused

@DrRDizzle Oh.

Anyway, I'm against including studios in the question tags unless the question specifically relates to teh studio

This is the bit that all Marvel-based movies have before the opening scene:
But only Marvel Studios movies have the word "STUDIOS" across the bottom

@MikeEdenfield So it's identical except for the word "studios"?

@MikeEdenfield Does Fant4stic have it? I actually don't remember.

4:21 PM
yes

@MikeEdenfield Also, that gives me chills

@Catija the logo has changed over the years, so it's slightly different depending on the movie.

@Catija Well, I think they're quite different in their specifics. Don't they all feature different comics pages depending on the actual movie?
But I might mix things up with DC, just saw Green Lantern last night.

but substantially, yes, it's the same. animated comic book pages being flipped that turn into a 3-d "MARVEL".

@MikeEdenfield Sure. But the style is similar.

4:22 PM
@TomCody @MikeEdenfield No. Fiege (I think) talked about how they specifically chose about 100 generic pages for it.

Oh, ok then.

It's not customized for each movie.
but it has evolved over time.

but no, it's not movie-specific; e.g. you can clearly see Iron Man in the intro before the X-Men movies.

“We designed the very first Marvel logo for the first Spider-Man film. We’ve used that logo for eleven years, and with ‘Thor: The Dark World,’ it felt like a good time to update it because this is the very first film that only has the Marvel logo in front of it. You look back at the other films, and they’ve also featured our studio partners’ or distribution partners’ logos. But now that we are our own entity within the Walt Disney Company, it is only the Marvel logo in front of the movies.”

4:23 PM
hrm. I just found a video of all of them, it looks like they do slip a couple of scenes specific to a movie.
the two Hulk movies had a green one, Punisher's had more guns than usual

@MikeEdenfield to be fair, Kevin Fiege may be in charge but he isn't the one making the animation. Could well be true

but it's mostly the same generic scenes

@DrRDizzle By the way, it's Feige. (I wouldn't be as pedantic normally, but seeing that it's a repeated error there's a chance you might genuinely not know and it isn't just a typo.)

@TomCody I wouldconsider myself to be a good speller most of the time, but I will never get an i and an e in the right order. Ever. I appreciate you letting me know though.

I'm seeing a trend here: the more customized the intro, the worse the movie.
So far Elektra, Ghost Rider, and Fantastic Four have the move customized intros.

4:26 PM
@MikeEdenfield Those are the really early ones... but then, I'm guessing you're seeing them in order?

sortof.
they reuse a lot.
like, all of Fox's X-Men movies have the same one.
and both Hulks
all Punishers
etc
I'm seeing them in roughly the order the first movie was released
the Punisher one even gets shot up at the end

@MikeEdenfield I liked Punisher...

it was ok.

Very underrated movie. Amazing soundtrack, too. And Thomas Jane is great.

Not the worst Marvel movie.

4:29 PM
That is odd how they made the Hulk one green.

I was always more of a Daredevil fan; in those stories Punisher's practically the villain
@Catija The also make the F4 ones blue

And... whoever made it called "Electra" Electa :P

I'm looking forward to seeing Punisher in Daredevil next season.
I saw that. And it's Elektra
cuz you know, k is for kewl

@MikeEdenfield Totally... My bad.

@MikeEdenfield Well, in-universe I'd rather say k is for Greek. ;-P

4:31 PM
It's too bad, the Ghost Rider letter dissolve at the end is kinda cool.

@TomCody yes, except I don't think I've ever seen the Greek name Anglicized that way.
In Greek mythology, Electra (/ɨˈlɛktrə/; Greek: Ἠλέκτρα, Ēlektra) was the daughter of King Agamemnon and Queen Clytemnestra, and thus princess of Argos. She and her brother Orestes plotted revenge against their mother Clytemnestra and stepfather Aegisthus for the murder of their father, Agamemnon. Electra is the main character in two Greek tragedies, Electra by Sophocles and Electra by Euripides, and has inspired other works. In psychology, the Electra complex is also named after her. == Family == Electra's parents were King Agamemnon and Queen Clytemnestra. Her sisters were Iphigeneia an...

@MikeEdenfield Maybe they didn't bother anglicization(?).

possibly.
wait.

Well, she is Greek... so her parents could have simply chosen that spelling.

Elektra's going to be in Daredevil too? Did I know this and forget it?

4:34 PM
> Elektra was born on a Greek island near the Aegean Sea to Hugo Kostas Natchios and his wife Christina Natchios. She had an older brother named Orestez Natchios.

@Catija presumable her parents spelled it in Greek: Ἠλέκτρα

@MikeEdenfield She is. She was referenced in the first season.

yeah, but so was Iron Fist, sort-of, and I don't think he's showing up yet :)

Dafuq's Man-Thing?

As long as Jennifer Garner isn't involved, it's got to be better.
@TomCody Yeah, that one confused me, too...

4:35 PM
it's basically Marvel's version of Swamp Thing

Actually those logos are quite much adapted to the individual properties. But at least they kept them the same for the whole series/franchise.

@MikeEdenfield But her mom's name is "Christina"? And not Kristina? Now I'm really confused.

@MikeEdenfield That's the Netflix project after Luke Cage
Im going to go cook Enchiladas, Ill see you guys round

I think Man-Thing's been name-dropped a few times in Marvel movies.
@TomCody some are more adapted than others; I saw similar Iron Man shots in most of them but not all of them, for example

The MCU things seem quite similar. But all the other series struck me as quite different.

Yay, Robin Scherbatsky! \o/

Q: Did Shosanna make her dress out of a Nazi banner?

Robert MugattarovIn the movie Inglourious Basterds, Shosanna Dreyfus appears as a stunning woman in red on the Nation's Pride premiere. Q: Why `identify-this-movie` questions are always downvoted even if perfectly valid?

DarioOOI think this site need some moderation intervention, there are plenty of questions tagged identify-this-move, most of all are just downvoted, and people fear to put an answer because of downvoters. Are there so much trolls in there? Given that I think that such tag is not a bad idea at all and ...

Why is Catija removing all the Pixar tags? Some of the ones are from when Pixar was still independent, and even if they are part of Disney now, the films are still under the Pixar label.

@MetaReel Oh dafuq. People are getting seriously worked up about bad questiosn being downvoted. Maybe it's about time for the bigger discussion.
@JohnP Because those questions are about individual movies and not about the general intricacies of Pixar itself.

5:15 PM
@JohnP Because we don't tag questions about a specific film with the studio that made that film.

mmmm...ok, that makes some sense. I'm a little foggy this am. :/
@TomCody And, his entire edit just consisted of "The language was english".

5:52 PM
Yeah, a downvote after a few seconds. That guy sure read the entire meta answer in that time. ;-(
Oh, meta explosion today. Thankfully that new thing's pretty much a duplicate.

Q: Disambiguation of generic movie/show titles?

cdeHow should tagging be handled for titles that have multiple unrelated versions? For example, Beauty and the Beast, which does it refer to? The Disney Film, or the currently airing TV show on CW? Neither of these are related. What about Aladdin? Being Human? What about reboot series?

Q: Help identifying old anime series

user25629All I can remember of this 90s anime series is that it was in space and that pilots control their planes by inserting their arms into two slots in the cockpit.

Not sure why, but I've always imagined animuson as a girl... so... yeah. Probably because, as a female, I tend to assume more people are female than actually are... which I think is probably better than assuming someone's male.

8:43 PM
@Catija Uh...ok.

@TomCody I just felt like stating that somewhere.
Not sure why.

@Catija Sure.
@Catija Why not.

... but guys get so offended sometimes when you think they're a girl.

@Catija Uhuh. Hmm, while I don't like being misunderstood or misjudged, I wouldn't really be offended if you think I was a girl, gay or a dog, actually (well, not so sure about the latter, though, but I'd assume that's less likely to happen).

@TomCody Well.. you're also European... I find European guys are much more open to being any of those things than American guys who feel that it questions their "masculinity". :P

8:53 PM
Well, it probably also depends on the individual character. I'm not a particularly manly-man-man guy.

@TomCody True... and by that I mean the first part of your statement... If you consider yourself, non-manly, that's fine.

And I'm already at an age where I don't really let supposed cultural norms tell me who I am supposed to be anymore.

@TomCody That's a very mature way of thinking.
