It's a point I find myself pondering quite a bit, especially when the pressures (and the rewards) seem to go the other direction.

Has anyone ever come across an "overlay" journal such as this (nature.com/news/…)? A link was posted on the math subreddit and hasn't really generated any discussion there. To me, it seems like a reasonably efficient and effective way of publishing without the rigmarole of typesetting, advertising, and printing. I'm thinking that it might be a viable solution to student centred journals

which are typically pretty low throughput in terms of papers. Anyway, thought you guys might enjoy the concept if you hadn't come across it.
