to you too
@Marian except that the team changed their mind(s) to use another backup (from one day later), so some parts of the process were tested not only once but twice

@Phil If you clone an entire machine with Oracle 9i, change the IP and bring it up on the same network, clients will all continue connecting to the original machine won't they?

8:51 AM
@Jack yeah

@Phil thanks – it doesnt depend how the clients are doing oracle name resolution then?

9:11 AM
Yup. If it's just DNS based, you're fine

Q: Hash Match inner join in simple query with in statement

Adolfo PerezI am running the execution plan for the following query: select m_uid from EmpTaxAudit where clientid = 91682 and empuid = 42100176452603 and newvalue in('Deleted','DB-Deleted','Added') Here is the execution plan: I have a non clustered index on EmpTaxAudit Table on ClientId and NewValue...

Not a very bad question

10:02 AM
@Phil think we found the problem — there is a samba server on that box and something WINS related is affecting name resolution on some clients!

@JackDouglas VtC: This question belongs on another site

I'll add an answer a bit later on this, but I've created a chatroom for users to discuss the SQL tag/topics, etc here is a link. — bluefeet ♦ 2 days ago
That's not a link to a chatroom there, @bluefeet
Looks more like a link for recursion connoisseurs to me.

I don't know what you're referring to. :P
thanks

No, m doing it online. I went to w3 and pl/sql environment and m doing the whole thing from there , i wanted to do it for free due to money restrictions but it seems like I will have to take a proper course for it? However all I want to know is, if I do it properly from and institute and get a certification, will then I be able to earn some money using this sitting at home? Also is there some other way of doing this course and getting the certification without spending money? Hope u an help me out with just this query. — user273965 27 mins ago

@TomV dba.stackexchange.com/questions/145319/… you might want to delete this, as the question is about PostgreSQL
Did you realize this question was about PostgreSQL? Also that there is already an index on age? — dezso 41 secs ago
and
How many different genders do you expect? Will it add any selectivity to the index you propose? — dezso 9 secs ago
(same question, different answers)
and
@MichałNiklas it does not. — dezso 18 secs ago

@dezso I expect 4 ;)

@ypercubeᵀᴹ very good :) still, this does not really change my point, I believe :D

@dezso I've commented, too.
I agree the index would not be useful for the query.

"Unfortunately, I understand and even agree with this argument. Instead of “most engineers are not database experts” I’d even say that most developers have very little understanding of databases because every developer that touches SQL needs know about transactions—not just database experts."

Q: Let's organize the SQL documentation

bluefeetDocumentation has been in public beta for about a week, and some users have pointed out a few issues with the SQL docs, so before things get too unwieldy let's address some of the issues. I mentioned in my comment earlier this week and have been thinking about ways to fix them before they get to...

getting feedback from you all on that post would be fantastic
