Is it me, or this really does not make any sense (apart from being a rant)?
We are dealing with hacking Oracle Middleware platform. It has partitioning as a recommended (not required feature). There are bzillion problems with it. I just tried to save us some money this way. I think oracle made it crap (the db model sickens me) so that you have to buy partitioning. Oh well at least i tried — kosta537 mins ago
@Zane I walked into a client where the previous consultants had talked them (a 100-person company with no full-time IT staff) into purchasing Sharepoint 2013 on-prem and running it on some Azure VMs. They use SharePoint only for the BI components and are perfectly fine with their data being in the cloud. :-(
@ConcernedOfTunbridgeWells For them it's a matter of maintenance overhead. There is way less maintenance in Power BI than there is for SharePoint on-prem, especially when they aren't using half of the features.
@Zane Yeah, but they were not fun to work with. We were worried the week before that we wouldn't have enough rooms. They started charging us for things that they said were free int he past. And they really weren't in an interesting part of town.
This time, we are closer to the heart of the city, closer to BBQ crawl restaurants and hotels, and after party venues.
and we still get the venue for free because we are helping them advertise their data science programs.
I've read The Machine Stops a few times, and I don't think it's quite similar enough to the internet. There, the humans live within a giant machine. But the internet is a network of machines.
