Any Postgres heroes want to address this?

Wow, i wrote a threaded Python script to stress test our teradata box..... And the td box crashed.... hard. Ping no response even.

5:38 AM
@rfusca I think you'd call that a failed test then? :D

Very sad Saturday this one
it was traded in for last Friday, which was between a national holiday and the weekend
so I've to stay in the office

@JackDouglas are you around?

@dezso yup–I also work Saturdays ;-)

in this part of the world you'd be called a Stakhanovist
so, regarding my last flag and your edit, I already included the content from the deleted answer
sorry for the confusion

ooooops

this relates to my not-yet-asked question from yesterday
what to do with a situation where a Q was closed as too localized, and the OP answered himself with a very short A -> flagged as low quality

@dezso I think if the question is already closed we don't need to worry about what state it or it's answers are in–though that might be a useful question to ask on meta?

10:13 AM
on the other hand, should I mark for deletion and flag as not an answer this one: dba.stackexchange.com/questions/12116/innodb-not-enabled/…
@JackDouglas I'd prefer the low-qual review list empty :)

@dezso what rep is needed for mark for deletion, 2k?
wow, you have exactly 2k

big festivities yesterday :)

@dezso again it's best to ask questions like that on meta if you have the time–that way everyone will eventually chip in whereas chat just disappears once it scrolls off the current screen
@dezso not sure why it's even in the review queue if the Q is closed–that might be one for mSO

I wondered whether there was an authoritative answer known by mods
I'll ask those questions for sure

Excellent, thanks :)
meta has been a bit quiet lately ;)

10:22 AM
I'll do my best to stir it up
dezso's gonna trouble the meta

boo hoo hoo I want to nest CTEs and I can't.

why? can't they be nested?

lay eggs and the like?

@ypercube not in Oracle

ouch. I didn't know that.

postgres on the other hand: sqlfiddle.com/#!12/d41d8/129
SQL Server seems to suffer the same limitation as Oracle: sqlfiddle.com/#!6/d41d8/677
at least that's some consolation ;)
@dezso I only just got that

1:04 PM
Do you really need it? Can't the CTEs be unnested with same results?

@ypercube yes, but naming is then even uglier

@JackDouglas I don't see the difference

@JackDouglas Are you trying to do this?
with
  w as (select 'X' as dummy),
  x as (select * from w)
select * from x;

@SQLkiwi no, that is fine
I just want a separate namespace inside a CTE for nested CTEs
My SQL is hard enough to read as it is without flattening it out
I know I can write something logically equivalent–that actually makes it more annoying as the parser could easily handle this
the more I use postgres the more annoying I find Oracle :)

Ok I see. Took me a moment to understand. It's late.
