12:33 AM
aarrgghh
that was a nightmare, I seem to be back though.

12:47 AM
they sent me an email that was * today only!* for $5 they are going to send me the little modem/hotspot thingamabob, free shipping.
As soon as I get it, that starts the one month free trial.
(actually, as soon as they ship it)
Hopefully it will arrive before I move, my move day is supposed to be August 3.
Now I am going to mess with the new headset again.

1:04 AM
The thingabob (probably a USB dongle?) is for the Lifeline mobile data plan?

1:16 AM
I already have the Lifeline plan (300 MG).
Yes, it's a dongle.
I'm still having trouble getting my 'puter to recognize the new headset.
I'm paired with my phone, no problem.

1:59 AM
I am connected now to my computer (so my headset is working with Dragon), but now it is a bit noisy on the phone (not as bad as it was).
So it's better, but still not worthy of a great review.

8 hours later…
9:47 AM
@jolenealaska so, a noticeable performance boost?

Yep, the performance boost is noticeable, but it's surprising in a couple of ways.

New hardware is nice feels.

For one thing, it's transcribing phrases to the screen significantly faster.
I didn't expect that.
One thing I did expect is for it not to take as long to add new information to my profile.

Sounds like it was thrashing the disk quite heavily before. I think someone mentioned that earlier

it really seemed to push the envelope of what my machine could do.

9:55 AM
Well, glad you've seen an improvement

I just looked at task manager. If I'm reading it correctly, I'm using over 4GB of RAM just having both Dragon and Firefox open right now.
4GB is all I had installed prior to adding more this morning.

Yeah, programs are resource hogs these days
I say that being responsible for writing some

I keep trying to switch from Crome to Firefox because my usage habits fit Firefox's resource patterns better, but there's always some feature that doesn't work quite right and fouls up my workflow bad enough I revert back to Chrome.

on my old machine - really old, feeble thing - I had to switch to Chrome because Firefox was just unusable
Somehow Chrome managed to constrain its resource usage better, and was just about bearable

10:10 AM
I really have not really done much in Chrome lately. I've been having a problem with Adobe Flash crashing in Firefox, so I keep saying tomorrow maybe I'll try using Chrome for a while. It's silly, but I don't want to use Chrome anymore because I've got all my toolbars and everything tweaked the way I like them in Firefox.

Yeah, Firefox's video play seems... spotty?

Tomorrow I'll stick to Chrome long enough to really compare.
I don't want for Chrome to work better :(
2
but I will look at it tomorrow. For now, it is time to go to bed. Good night guys.

10:26 AM
G'night.

@jolenealaska I hesitate to ask what you mean by toolbars...

2 hours later…
9:05 PM
@ElendilTheTall Perhaps the Ask toolbar.
It's very handy, I use it all the time.
My browser:

@Cerberus Space Shuttle Cerberus five-by-five and ready to initiate re-entry

11:28 PM
@TomW I'm sorry, I couldn't see your line there.
The toolbars left me only 1 mm of vertical screen space.
