Q: Originality of Writing

Keychain1I have been writing a book, and often times I feel like a lot of the elements to my story are just Freudian Slips. I'm not plagiarizing or anything, but sometimes I would go back and read through my drafts, only to find another story I read/watched with similar elements. Anyway, how can I take t...

Q: How to indicate the topic has been changed without using words?

OokerI am writing an an article to give knowledge, not novel. Usually, when you change the current topic, at the beginning of the new paragraph you would like to use some transition words such as Addition, Next, etc. However, if you don't want to use those words, you need a stronger indicator to tell ...

5:45 PM
@KitFox I don't think it was necessarily written by a man.
> Case in point: Eve.
Okay I think I can stop reading that garbage

Q: What is the meaning of a cancelled publication in conference?

hossayniIn this this link, I see a cancelled publication (there is a horizontal line on its name): Methods for Mining and Summarizing Text Conversations. What does it mean? I would like to find this article. what should I do? It means that it has been moved to some other page or s.th. else?

7:59 PM
By later, I guess I meant a lot later.
Oh hey! It's Tuesday!
That's writing day!
I guess I should write then.

:D do some!

Erotica or novel or other thing?

which do you have more energy for?

I don't know.
I have the novel open, so I think I'll work on that.

8:24 PM
Such slow going.

how much have you done?

I'm close to halfway through.
I'm making notes and correcting typos.
Not much in the way of edits, except looking for holes and asking questions.
It's weird. I'm surprised it's so hard for me to judge whether it is uneven.
I probably shouldn't be surprised, because I know the story in my head.

Hi both! @KitFox @MattЭллен

Hi @Farooq.

user116848
I keep this room in my favorites so I can read the transcript and chat etc. :-)

Enjoying the snow?

user116848
@KitFox Hey :-)

user116848
Oh, no snow here.

8:48 PM
I'll lend you some. We've got buckets.

user116848
Here we get 5 C (in positive) max :-)

user116848
@KitFox Hehe!

It's about -10C today. Actually pretty balmy for recent weather.

user116848
Oh, that's chilly :-)

It's been around -20, -25C.

user116848
8:50 PM
Oh. That's very cold.

It's on the cold side of usual for us. We get cold temps, but not usually this early or this long.

user116848
Ah, I see

This has been a weird winter. Heavy snows early, followed by warm weather, then plummeting past freezing, then warm again, freezing again, now a blizzard.
Although this is usually when we'd get blizzards.
February is when we'd normally get -20C or so.
Right before spring.

user116848
@KitFox Ah, so weather fluctuates there a lot I reckon.

user116848
I have never experienced a temperature in minus though. Sometimes I miss it. Sometimes I don't :-)

user116848
8:53 PM
I have seen hailstones though :p

@Farooq It has this year. Not normal.
@Farooq It hailed relatively frequently when I lived further south. I've seen hail slightly smaller than golfballs.

user116848
@KitFox Oh nice!.

user116848
But they can be dangerous too. I mean if they hit on the head etc :-)

The worst part of a blizzard is that it often takes down trees or limbs. Luckily, most of the weak stuff came down early in the year, so it's unlikely that this blizzard will cause huge damage.

user116848
Yeah, I hear blizzards there can be quite destructive.

user116848
8:58 PM
Many people face problems using the transport too when there is a blizzard.

Yes. I stayed home from work today. We have blizzards as part of our emergency plan.
They canceled school today, sent the notice yesterday, which is well ahead of the usual cancellation notice.
So we stocked up on groceries, but there's no real worry. We have a generator if the power goes out, and we heat our house with wood.
The wind started around midnight, the snow around 5AM, but it's tapered off now so we're through the worst of it.

user116848
ah, I see.

I don't know how much we actually got, maybe two feet.

user116848
For me, since I have never experienced any blizzard, it all sounds a bit adventurous :-)

user116848
I know I am wrong.

9:02 PM
You must have something similar though.
I don't know what your terrain is like. Maybe monsoons or duststorms?

user116848
I live in the city of Karachi :-)

user116848
It is very populous :)

So you don't have severe weather of any kind?

user116848
No, we don't. Here winters are quite peaceful.

I guess you have trouble of another kind.
Which I equally have no experience with.

user116848
9:04 PM
Yep, the infrastructure here sucks!

user116848
Still here are good things too you know.

I have no idea what it is like to live in a city. I grew up in a little town of about 30K people.

user116848
I mean I have good parents, friends etc.

It's the largest urban area for hundreds of miles.
So I thought it was a city until I visited Toronto and New York and Washington, DC.

user116848
Oh 30K sounds very little to me :p

user116848
9:06 PM
Here we have almost 20 million people.

I live in a village of about 3K people now.
The largest city I lived in was Winston-Salem, about 150K people, I think.

user116848
Yeah, small population seems like a good thing.

So I'm pretty much a country mouse.

user116848
Hehe!

@KitFox maybe when you look back at your notes you'll see what needs changing

9:08 PM
It's hard to conceive of what it would be like to live like we live, but as a little neighborhood in a vast metropolis.
@MattЭллен That's the idea.
But now Farooq's distracted me.

user116848
@KitFox I am sorry :p

I think Kit let herself be distracted :D

user116848
Just felt like chatting with you guys :p

user116848
@MattЭллен I agree :-)

I'm interested in what that kind of thing is like. You can put those experiences in your writing.

user116848
9:10 PM
Yes, I definitely can.

It will help you find your voice.

user116848
Yes, of course.

Second largest city in the world. It looks beautiful.

user116848
Yes, it does.

Well, I guess I should get back to my novel...

user116848
9:14 PM
Okay, sure. See you later!

Argh. I have all the ingredients to make lemon-dill chicken with tzatziki sauce and no feta. Curses, blizzard!

9:55 PM
@KitFox - Hey
How's it going?

Hi!
I am about halfway through the novel. Feeling pretty discouraged.

10:21 PM
Anything specific you're having trouble with? Or just general winter blahness?

I'm still recovering from sickness, and we're snowed in.
And also, the story is not very good.
I'll work it through and send it to you and you will tell me how to fix it.
Then there will be rainbows.

I have no doubt. :D

I suppose I should go make diner. Did I mention I was about halfway through the story?
And still am.

10:38 PM
Yes, you did.
Don't forget, you finished this on-deadline for NaNoWriMo. So anything less than that frentic pace might feel "slow" to you ATM.
