@bazola @SimonAndréForsberg @skiwi ^^ What do you think?
And @Lokkij @Marc-Andre
^^ Original layout :)
@Jay1148 also... ^

12:35 AM
A bit more neutral, not sure which of the red or blue I prefer right now...

12:50 AM
Hey @Jay1148

Hello!

How's it going?

eh, I am here...

Look above, do you think blue or red is better? I think so far I like blue better, personally
(open to all suggestions though on colors and such)

Blue looks really good actually, I'd stick with it.

12:56 AM
So far, so good

Yup

Thoughts? ^^

Good.
Basic, but good.

Two more files to go (out of 5), these are the more complex ones (the deck builder and the game field)
Brb smoke

So that song file.. is there supposed to be missing strings? Like there are strings up to 125 and then no strings after that the rest of the song.

1:08 AM
Copy+Paste
Only part that's different is the bridge
Was hoping your piano would be more interesting, added with the strings

yes, but I could have used the bridge chords don't ya think?
or is that gonna be a no piano part?
also, not sure how I feel about that constant high stringed note all the way through the song. You mind if I spice up the strings a bit too?

Do what you want to do, I handed it to you for a reason :)
AFAIK, the bridge chords are basically the same, they're just shorter stabs

so the same notes just stabs?

1:27 AM
Pretty much

Looks good!

[Cardshifter/Cardshifter] Phrancis pushed commit e064ddeb to mods: transitioning to black&blue JavaFX colors

Only one file to go

so is the heavy part without vocals the chorus?

[Cardshifter/Cardshifter] build #1150 for commit e064ddeb on branch mods passed
[Cardshifter/Cardshifter] Phrancis pushed commit 647407db to mods: JavaFX is now blue-ish

1:44 AM
@Jay1148 I thought that was the bridge, let me listen again
@Jay1148 Yes, it is
Or at least when it gets heavier around 1:20

[Cardshifter/Cardshifter] build #1151 for commit 647407db on branch mods passed

Ooh! What is this magic place!

@Vogel612 "that" is Travis-CI. As for gradle, not sure why it's not telling you, but try running gradle test and see if there's a difference.
@EthanBierlein A chat room?
Good job on the colors, @Phrancis

gradle check requires the test task..
and it properly blows up if test-cases fail..

@Vogel612 oh, right...
this might be something for you?
22
A: Gradle: How to Display Test Results in the Console in Real Time?

Benjamin MuschkoYou could run Gradle with INFO logging level on the command line. It'll show you the result of each test while they are running. Downside is that you will get far more output for other tasks also. gradle test -i

perhaps not exactly what you're looking for though
or even better, this: discuss.gradle.org/t/…

that looks awesome, thanks a lot
will look at this when I'm back home from work ;)

5:30 PM
@SimonAndréForsberg I didn't see FXML files for actual cards, are those in a different directory?

hey @Phrancis, feeling a bit better again?

5:47 PM
@skiwi Yeah, finally able to make it to work
@SimonAndréForsberg OK perfect :)

@Phrancis Ah, that's good
I can finally sit and do some stuff without painkiller an without pain

@SimonAndréForsberg Do you think we could shoot for a release for this Saturday? (barring anything being broken by then)

that should be possible

I'd like to pull in the UI changes when I'm done, come up with a couple new cards which shouldn't take long at all

6:02 PM
I'm not sure if @Lokkij is done for now and his branch is working
If not we could just build from mods for right now

I'll merge the things that should be included into the develop branch when it is time

Cool
When do you think we should finally update master?

@Phrancis when we release

Hmm, interesting

Q: Groovy Android and libgdx

TownsfolkI'm trying to get libgdx working with Groovy for Android (groovy-android-gradle-plugin). I've successfully got a test project compiling, and starting up, but when the game loads it crashes due to a missing y property on the Rectangle class. When I first tried this, the game crashed when accessi...

as always, it is the html version that will definitely not work properly with groovy, even if we managed to solve it for the other platforms

6:15 PM
Groovy is not supported by.... that ^^

Oh, crap.
Damn HTML5 version >.<

Does Groovy support all other versions?

Haven't tested it on other platforms.

i changed my buttons over to a retractable side menu for the city building game. do you think i should have 3-4 separate buttons for the different categories? or is just this View Menu button enough?
everything will be replaced with a little icon instead of text eventually

6:22 PM
I am getting confused by the many buttons, it might be better to have different categories

i thought that you might say that :)

My branch is sadly not yet completely done
Still getting an error in onEndOfTurn
I haven't really been able to work on it in the past couple days

> It appears there have been several features which would be beneficial, but are not supported by libGDX's HTML5 versioning. Among those are:

- External sources for card images (see issue #217)
- Support for Groovy [(more info)](http://www.badlogicgames.com/wordpress/?p=3336)

This brings up a question I think we need to address: What do we gain by offering support for HTML5, where we would not otherwise be better off _not_ offering support for HTML5, but having access to better tools and

6:45 PM
@Lokkij No worries, we'll get it in when it's working, I'm just really eager to move past 0.6 because we've been on this one for months :)

7:00 PM
Wow, badlogic really took some heat in the comments on that one post
I don't understand what people get out of trolling internet forums and such.
Worst I know is YouTube comments... where communication goes to die.

There is so much non-sense in YouTube comments. It's mind-blowing. I'm always tempted to respond to non-sense but then I remember that is what they want attention.

Yep. If only more people spent time learning and doing productive things, instead of wasting time trolling the internet... I think the world would be a better place.

[Zomis/Duga] Zomis pushed commit a1e9a596 to grails-dev: set spring-boot-starter-tomcat to provided, updated to grails 3.0.2

@Simon With IDEA, whenever you "Make" a project (i.e., build it) does it create JARs somewhere on your PC? If so, do you know what setting it is, or could you explain to me how to make our project into JARs that I can run locally?

@Phrancis No, it doesn't. You could either run it from inside the IDE, or you can run the gradle task 'dist' (./gradlew dist)

OK, so I could just run ServerMain.java (and the client one) from IDEA using Gradle?

@SimonAndréForsberg did you change the github hook placement?
or is Duga down right now?
github's giving me a "Service Timeout" in the hooks...

7:35 PM
@Vogel612 @Duga's down at the moment. Trying to update her to the Grails version, but I just get a whole lot of out of memory errors when I try to update her

ah that explains ;)
please ping me when you got her back up, I got the tests working nicely now ;)

I really would like to get this update working, but I really have no idea where the hell the memory error comes from
@Phrancis You can't "run" using gradle. You should be able to run from the IDE though. or just use gradle and run the jars that it creates

OK

8:07 PM
@Simon I'm looking at some of your Groovy mod code, I keep seeing CardDelegate.metaClass
CardDelegate.metaClass.manaCost << {int value ->
    mana_cost(value)
}
I was curious if you could briefly explain what that is?
I'm guessing metaClass is a method of CardDelegate?

@Phrancis it's a way of dynamically adding methods to a class

Ohhhhh that's very cool
Did you make that metaClass or does it come with Groovy?

it's Groovy

That's... Groovy?

it comes with groovy, everything that comes with Groovy is Groovy

assert type : 'Cannot use null creature type'
Is that like doing if (!type) { console.log("Cannot use null creature type") } ? (in pseudo-JS)

@Phrancis close, but not exactly. If the assertion fails, an AssertionError is thrown.

soo.. @SimonAndréForsberg how's the update coming along?

Then it would create a compile error? Or a run error?

@Vogel612 might be working now. Go ahead and try it.

hmm.. 405..

8:20 PM
Unfortunately, at the moment I've had to disable my Minesweeper Flags Statistics site, and the Cardshifter website.

> "exception":"org.springframework.web.HttpRequestMethodNotSupportedException"

@Vogel612 What URL do you have specified in your hook?

[Zomis/Duga] Zomis pushed commit 4b60cb4d to grails-dev: added support for old URL mapping for github hook

8:25 PM
It's not really a big thing to change the URL you know?

@Vogel612 It is, if you sum up all the repositories that have the old hook set.

true that...

I'm updating her now, hold on
okay, try her now @Vogel612

want me to check other events?

yes please
I don't think the status Github-Event ever has been supported really...
that was also a status-event, @Vogel612
try another kind of event

yes...
but that one was a travis build success..
they definitely used to work ;)

[Vogel612/TranslationHelper]‌ Vogel612 pushed commit 52539142 to master: Modified gradle-config to give more information about tests

@Vogel612 the travis build successes that you have seen in chat have been done in other ways, by using webhooks directly from Travis. Compare github.com/Zomis/Duga/blob/master/.travis.yml with github.com/Vogel612/TranslationHelper/blob/master/.travis.yml
that said, I see no reason why the status event shouldn't be supported...

8:47 PM
I'd love to see that happen.... wouldn't that also allow you to not have to add webhooks to the .travis.yml / app-veyor config?

@Vogel612 probably true. I'm not sure why the status event weren't used in the first place (I'm blaming @skiwi)

okay then I'll leave the status event up to you and I'll go back to reading resx files ;)

[Zomis/Duga] Zomis pushed commit 4beea1e0 to grails-dev: added 'add config' and 'task reload' chat commands
Update common.groovy

Added documentation.

I love that quote

> At least travis sends a "Pending" status. It might be preferrable to just Acknowledge and then drop that status, since it adds no helpful information.

I don't know how AppVeyor works with that, but IIUC these two will work with the same kind of status.
A travis payload can be seen [here](http://pastie.org/private/suarowulersviiwer9ojq)

I would reaaaaaaally like to fix that issue ^^

/**
 * The Game class sets up all the parameters upon a game being started for a mod using the client.
 * It is imported during run time, hence errors with the mod will be logged to the server console at run time.

 */

/**
 * @param entity A card entity
 * @return hasComponent Class containing methods related to creature types
 * @return isOnZone Class containing methods related to zones, players and decks
 * @return isOwnedByCurrentPlayer The initial card with the added properties
@Simon @Lokkij Do you find this GroovyDoc satisfactory?
The rest of the class is simple enough to understand so I can document, but I wanted to make sure to get the header right, since it's for the main Game.groovy file(s)

10:07 PM
@Phrancis ownedBattlefieldCreatures will be significantly simplified later on, it is related to this issue: github.com/Cardshifter/Cardshifter/issues/247

OK. Is the GroovyDoc accurate though?

@Phrancis No, it isn't. The documentation for hasComponent, isOnZone and isOwnedByCurrentPlayer is very incorrect. Those are different methods that are being called to check that the entity matches the expected filter. Those do not need to be documented there. What is being returned is a boolean value whether or not the entity is on battlefield, is a creature, and is owned by the current player.

Ohh ok
Simpler than I thought, actually. So it returns 3 Booleans then?

No, one boolean
A method can only return one thing.
It combines the three booleans using AND

Oh. OK, didn't know that, good thing to know for now, should make it easier to understand
Does that returned Boolean have a name?

10:20 PM
That groovydoc seems very weird to me

Working on that ;)

I'd read that as 'this returns three booleans somehow'

It looked weird to me as well, so that's why I checked
/**
 * @param entity A card entity.
 * @return Boolean value indicating whether or not the entity is a creature, is on battlefield, and is owned by the current player.
 */
def ownedBattlefieldCreatures = {entity ->
    def Cards = com.cardshifter.modapi.cards.Cards;
    return entity.hasComponent(com.cardshifter.modapi.base.CreatureTypeComponent.class) &&
            Cards.isOnZone(entity, com.cardshifter.modapi.cards.BattlefieldComponent.class) &&
            Cards.isOwnedByCurrentPlayer(entity)
^^ revised version

@Phrancis No, return values don't often have names.

OK

10:23 PM
@Phrancis A lot better

Yeah way better

See, I'm less ignorant by at least two things, now!

Though the function name seems odd to me as well; it reads as though it would return all creatures on the battlefield owned by a player. Maybe isOwnedBattlefieldCreature would be better?

I agree. Does IDEA safely refactor Groovy if you use the Refactor menu? (As in, rename every instance of it in the code base?)
I'm hesitant to touch anything in the code (besides simple cards) without an IDE, this web interface is the pits

            // maximum number of copies of a card - can be overridden by the maxInDeck property on individual cards
Is the single-line documentation OK for simple values like maxSize?
Should probably rename to minCardsInDeck, self-documenting
Any objection?
And it won't let me refactor->rename it :(

documentation is fine
@Phrancis they are inside the deck closure. I think that's clear enough

OK. There's a lot of magic numbers, maybe we should look at perhaps declaring those at the top (along with the resources) that way modders don't have to really read the code...
Would make it a bit less daunting for non-coders

@Phrancis IMO we shouldn't. The Game.groovy file is not really "code" from a modding perspective. Think of it more as a "config file".

Ah, OK I see

extracting constants would only lead to duplicated code, all mods would have minSize DECK_MIN_SIZE
it wouldn't provide any value at all.

11:40 PM
OK I can see your point of view in that regards :)
Is it common in Groovy to have a method with unnamed @param, like players(2), or is players also its name?

@Phrancis That is not really a method, that is actually calling a method.
it is calling the method named 'players' with the value of the parameter equals to '2' and a closure as the second parameter
