@Gilles Eh... depends on how you look at it. The post where they made the change implied that they wanted to communicate on-holdiness as an interim state. At least that 's the way I read it.
Keep in mind the message that went out in the beta launch email: "The first questions set the tone for the site. If you ask high quality, expert-level questions, you'll build a site that attracts the experts and pros who will make it really successful."
Let the people who proposed those example questions ask them on the site. They may have had a more specific context in mind, and that can only improve the question.

I think putting questions on hold has a philosophically different meaning, and on this, we disagree. That's pretty much what this comes down to.
Different types of communities, different forms of communication, different number of people participating and even different subjects can all have vastly different answers to the same question.

If voting seems to be the point of contention, perhaps you can steer the discussion away from voting and into other areas of the site. You also mentioned that both sides have been contributing constructively so far, and that the trouble hasn't expanded beyond voting and some grumbling, so I would...

Remove it from the name altogether. It's confusing in any position, and it hints that this room is related to SE moderation which is emphatically not the case.
