I didn't quite realise carbon in food would have that effect
even if the whole idea of black food seems odd

ouch that article is a whole mess of bad things

lol
The more you know ;)
@Jefromi and most of those things are less harmful in other contexts

3:07 PM
don't worry, it's all-natural!

So is ricin. ;p

Is it normal to have anonymous users going through 3-7 year old posts and editing them to put in health/allergy/nutritional claims and trying to revert edits that remove such or is this one person just messing?

5:30 PM
@dlb That sounds like unhealthy behavior. Someone should warn them that breaking our posting rules might cause cancer.

@dlb uhhh feel free to flag anything suspicious with a custom flag
it's easy for mods not to realize about an abusive pattern in suggested edits because they can just get quietly rejected
I think there are auto flags or bans eventually though
not sure how it all works with totally anonymous suggestions

Looking at traditional lumberjacking food.
My little brother bought some land up north- close to Canada- and he wants to be a cabin on it. So we are going up for a week in June to cut down trees and bark them.
The traditional foods I have found look like a lot of meat and high calorie, sugary foods. They were burning 6000-9000 kCal a day.
So I'm thinking beans, biscuits, stews, cheap meat like pork chops. Mostly things that are easy to store for a week and easy to cook in a dutch oven.
It'll be interesting. I suspect that we aren't going to make it the whole week before we are forced to give up and admit that we aren't as manly as we would like.
We are stocking up on plaid, flannel shirts and growing out our beards.
There's something therapeutic about talking about my life with an empty chat room. :)

6:07 PM
I was thinking about how to reply and then I saw the last line!
sounds like a big adventure though! Good luck trying to burn enough calories for all the food.

6:48 PM
@Sobachatina I'm all for people being whatever they want, but I think your brother is going to have a difficult time being a cabin.

@Catija lol DYAC.
@Jefromi Yeah- I am sure we're not going to be burning near that amount. Historically they were working 12hr days and were working constantly.
I know we won't be able to keep a pace anywhere near that.

That sounds like it's still not even as many calories as Michael Phelps was consuming, if I remember correctly...

Still if my base calorie expenditure is about 2300 kCal/day. It is reasonable that I'll be burning 3000-4000 if I'm doing half a day of manual labor.

@Catija Some of it is going to be genetic. Michael Phelps is a mutant.

Are you generally fit? It's difficult to work hard on stuff if you're not healthy to start out.
I can't even imagine how someone consumes 12K calories per day.

9:01 PM
@Catija No kidding. Just the time required to chew it all is enormous.
@Catija It varies. I'm not fit enough right now and I'm working on a plan to get ready for it. I have two months.
I mostly bike and so I will have to do a lot of extra work to add some upper body.

Spin classes :P

I'm actually looking for a big old tire I can beat with a sledgehammer. It's the closest I can think of to work out the right muscles.
I've found it slightly easier to get in shape in Utah than in Austin for 3 reasons: It's less humid, Mountains, and the BBQ is pathetic here.
I've been told there's a decent Texas-style BBQ place but its prices are outrageous enough that I haven't tried them yet.
@Catija I had to look up what a spin class was. Is it just indoor biking or do they add something else to it?

@Sobachatina It's super high-intensity indoor biking and I think the handle bars of the bikes move back and forth so it's full-body? I don't know, I've never done it, though.

never heard of the handlebars moving, but I'm not an expert (I've just seen the bikes and tried one once, not in a class)

Ah. maybe I'm mixing it up with something else.
Apparently they have choreography.

9:18 PM
Yeah.... I'm going to have to say that that doesn't look like something I would do...

9:33 PM
I think there are also pure workout spin classes, just someone taking you through intervals
