00:00 - 16:0016:00 - 23:00

12:48 AM
@Jefromi Hmm I think I normally don't salt my guacamole.

1:14 AM
@AJHenderson you around?

2:08 AM
@rfusca maybe

lol
@AJHenderson have you done much with recording of the audio separately?
i'm worried about the organization aspect

@rfusca depends if several hundred hours worth counts

:P
best way to keep track of what goes with what?

say something on both

well i mean, obviously, I can do that...I was hoping for something that didn't require me to go through a listen and match up everything afterwards

2:14 AM
@rfusca nah, you have to manually align anyway

@AJHenderson hopefully not. adobe premiere has synch to audio and i'll be recording on the camera also.
the recording device I've got has both a slate tone and an auto start beep. It also sends the audio back out to the camera, so it will be recording that audio that should match perfectly

4 hours later…
6:35 AM
Hi @Jefromi didn't I just leave you here?
I was just pondering the avocado thing.
I'm all set up to restart the second I wake up in the morning.
I'm know what the results will be of the Vit C thing, but I'm curious about the onion. On Chef John Besh this evening, he did the storing avocado in water thing. Weird how that works. Timing.

6:52 AM
Wow...I think my monthly rent just got halved. I got a thing in the mail that seems to say that. Wow...that means I might have a month's worth of money every month instead of adding to debt. Wow.

1 hour later…
7:57 AM
@rumtscho It's like a hollandaise with acidity and terragon. It is a warm sauce, no mustard involved.
@Jefromi Okay. Thanks :D
Why is there so much chatting going on at night? :(
do you guys talk while at work?

Tall does!
Of course "work" is a somewhat relative term.
@Mien Terragon is the devil's herb.

8:13 AM
No, that is cilantro.

Another relative term I guess.
Guess who made an appearance today??

Santa?

Hobodave. He has been absent longer than I have been here

:O
I think I saw him here talking recently?
how is he?
@hobodave please come back!! :D

8:29 AM
I have no idea. I just saw on his profile that he had been here. Until today (or at least last time I looked), the "last seen" field had read over a year ago.
His name just came up on Meta, and I happened to look at it.

Oh okay :)
Maybe I saw it in a dream :P

Like a legend before my time :)

he really is :(

I think he could show up in chat without triggering a reset of the "last seen" field.
Speaking of, I am at 462 days consecutive, member for 462 days. OCD? Who me?

congrats s:D

8:36 AM
There really ought to be a platinum badge for 500.

isn't 500 a badge?

100 is gold, only given once.

I think I have that :)
I have visited 993 days, over the course of 3-4 years :P

That's up there :)

in a week, we celebrate, deal?

8:38 AM
yes!

yaaay :D
do you have plans for chrismas or new year (eve)?

Not really. I have no family within 2000 miles, so Christmas is kind-of a non-event. I'm sure I'll hit a bar for ringing in the new year, but only to have people around.
I'll probably have dinner on Christmas with my Crotchety Neighbor.

:) enjoy
do you want me to put my laptop+cam on our dinner table? :P

NO! I'll just be jealous :)
Tall is late. Tick tock, tick tock.
I am going to bed soon, I want a good night's sleep. I am recording a food experiment tomorrow that may take up to 24 hours, so I need to stay up for perhaps that long. I frequently do that spontaneously, but I never plan to do it.

9:03 AM
@Jolenealaska I am never late
I always arrive precisely when I mean to

12:03
Hi sweetie!

greetings and salutations

Your name was brought up in Meta a couple of days ago.

really? am I banned?

Apparently you're an apathetic non-voting SOB.
(but we knew that)

9:06 AM
guilty as charged
I just answer questions, who gives a fuck about Imaginary Internet Points

I was singled out as being a top 10 example for the unwashed masses to aspire to emulate :)
guilty :)

'wow those are low numbers' <chest swells>

made you look :)

it's almost like I have better things to do than click arrows on here all day :O
in any case, we get about 2 new questions a day if that, how many upvotes can a man give?
you don't know what you've done by calling my attention to that by the way
I will never up or downvote anything again
Apathy 2.0

we've actually sped up. It wasn't long ago that I commented that we had reached the milestone of 10,000 questions.
It was SAJ that really got slammed. Giving 7000 rep while receiving 55000, and a 67% upvote rate? Wow, bah humbug to you too.

9:14 AM
he was in it for the glory

That's fun. That reminds me of something. Your little girl is probably just old enough to be wowed by a mobius strip.
What fun at the dinner table.

hmm
she'd probably be happier with a snowflake
Though she is a smart cookie. They all wrote xmas cards at preschool last week - she is the youngest in the class and wrote her name the fastest by a country mile

maybe both?
you've got paper and scissors out anyway.
I still hear the story every holiday that includes my aunt.

wow, chat is on fire!

Apparently she was present for some reason when my kindergarten class was asked why we we put stamps on envelopes.

9:25 AM
@Mien not too busy to join us peons today? :P

I said, "Well, how else can we show that we have paid the postage?" That and, "Can I get you anything, perhaps toast?" get repeated every single time we get together.

lol
precocity, thy name is Jojo

@ElendilTheTall I'm afraid I will need to reject thy request to have textual interactions with you today.

The stories are cute, but I'm 47. Can we move on?

@Mien sniff

9:28 AM
I made this! Do you like it? :D

s'alright

Anyway, I should get back to work :P Ping me if needed!
:O

purty!

just "alright"??
:D

Have fun @mien.

9:29 AM
Thanks. Good night

for Jojo? :P

precisely

<blush>

> There flowered a White Tree, and that was for Gondor; but Seven Stars were about it, and a high crown above it, the signs of Elendil that no lord had borne for years beyond count.

9:34 AM
lol @ElendilTheTall that is really nice, but a bit creepy too :D

:D

a Belgian beer glass surrounded by frites for @mien :D

it is too much fun :(
I really need to do some work

9:36 AM
ooooh :D how nice! thanks <3

He's reminding me I have no booze.

This is for you @ElendilTheTall :P
cuberdons from Belgium!

heheh

anyway, see you!

9:38 AM
aargh, delete that before you go
quick, jojo, talk

talk
woohoo

single word story time!

talk

There

9:39 AM
was

talking

gibberish

spouse.

9:40 AM
They

They??
wow

non-gender-specific pronoun
keep going!
They

but strangely plural in context.
Kept

jumping

9:42 AM
to

strange

comforting

horses

. How

9:46 AM
merrily

chortled

when

unbeknownst

9:47 AM
any

idiots

governing

9:48 AM
world

, we

flipped

over

9:50 AM
alternate

universe. enough!

the gif is gone!

I was just getting into it

we killed it.

9:52 AM
I was talking gibberish to my spouse. They kept jumping on to strange but comforting horses. How merrily we chortled when, unbeknownst to any of the idiots governing the world, we flipped over to the alternate universe.
It's already better than Twilight

yes!
Actually, I've never seen Twilight, but I've heard.

Imagine the worst fan fiction written by an angst ridden fourteen year old you've ever read, then half the quality and pay $10 a book for it
Then be forced to watch a movie version where the female lead is played by an ironing board with a face.
I think you'll find headbutting a screwdriver is preferable

I've seen the same chart with Keanu Reeves and again with Irish Setters.

yes, they all have similar ranges

Add William Shatner and we may be on to something.

10:00 AM
haha great story guys!

We're brilliant.

@Jolenealaska I. Won't. Have Bill. Gainsaid.

Hmmm...

@Jolenealaska we should rewrite the bible from memory in that style

OMG, that actually sounds like fun.

10:02 AM
there would be a massive old testament gap on my part at least, but what the heck, it's all genocide and rape anyway

How can we offend most efficiently?

Start it with 'Once upon a time'?

I did not just say that.

6

oh good grief, I wouldn't worry

10:09 AM
shit...I'm too late to delete!
that was quick!
@rummi??
@rumtscho
now would be good

lol
it's a race against time now
time for another couple of dozen one word stories!

Sure, lets do that Bible thing:)
NO!

@Jolenealaska what happened?
Or when? :P

A few months ago Cerby and I were discussing movie ratings.

10:17 AM
okay

The MPAA (the US organization that rates movies) is really asinine.
Among other things, it rates The Shawshank Rwedemption R, meaning under 17 need a parent accompanying

It is totally random :)

For no other reason than the language

have you seen the documentary about it?

If a movie has two uses of the word "fuck", it's an automatic R
yep

10:20 AM
I do not like the system either

@Jolenealaska guy gets beaten until he's a vegetable - no problem. Shot with a rifle? no problem. Hangs himself in desperation? No problem. Two fucks?! THE END IS NIGH!

it's the same with nipples
isn't it?

so, during the conversation, Cerby said a few fucks isn't going to hurt a kid.

you can tell a lot more (and heavy stuff) by not showing something

of course I starred that

10:21 AM
that sounds a bit weird :P

and so it began

hmm I see

NO B0OBIES!

:P

so was the argument about religion or 'profanity'?

10:24 AM
violence is tolerated to extremes...but NO BOOBIES! And "shit" can be said twice and "fuck" once.

I think there is some overlap

Yes, overlap
Jesus Christ Superstar is rated G.
(same as Bambi)

seriously? :s
but off course, blood in movies in not blood, but a fuck is still a fuck
I meant the word "fuck"

yep, just the word
So a 16 year old with a date in Dad's car couldn't get into a theater showing Shawshank.

oooooh :D
I thought you were talking about passion of the christ :D
do they really check the ages in theaters?

10:30 AM
I haven't seen that one, but JCS is WAY violent for a G.

haven't seen it in ages

I've never seen it
sounds like a yawn-fest of epic proportions

the 39(?) lashes, the suicide, the crucifixion, the whores in the temple...
but no boobies

well, for what it's worth, a few boobs would not kill a toddler

Yes, they (some) really do check IDs. An exception is art houses.
Might make em hungry
LOL I just went through my tabs to close stuff I didn't need.
I had Googled Keanu Reeves to check the spelling.
That really does look like that chart of the Twilight actress.

10:49 AM
:D

hehe

On that note, I think it is time for me to go to bed. I've got a big day tomorrow watching avocados brown.

Hello!

Hi @Cindy

11:00 AM
Or goodnight!

that too :)

@Jolenealaska night hon
@Cindy hi

See you later. :)

g'night all.

Hi @ElendilTheTall.
What's up with all of the older questions showing up in the review queue for close votes?

11:04 AM
overzealous newbies

We need a block so that if a question was asked before a certain date is can't be flagged to close. The other thing I noticed was that most were flagged as off topic but if you read the posts they had valid questions. Maybe those newbies should learn to edit rather than flag.

newbies can't edit
or rather, they can only suggest edits
which generates a flag for approval

Didn't think of that. But it would be better than all of the flags.

you need a lesson in apathy from the master
namely, me
the secret is not to give a tiny rat's ass about anything that goes on - you can confine it to this site, or like me expand it to include everything but the immediate family :)

I tend to do that, probably more than I should.

11:17 AM
meh
don't sweat the small stuff
and there are few things smaller than a backwater Imaginary Internet Point farm

@Jolenealaska Good night!
Sounds exciting :P

LOL. But here we are.....

i know
but I could leave it in a second if necessary
and forget about it forever in the next 5

That's true of many things that we enjoy.
My tummy is growling. I'm off to fix breakfast. :) See you later!

11:31 AM
I stopped by main on my way to bed (story of my life)

A: wet cured ham spoilage

JolenealaskaI am usually loathe to say out loud that you can feel safe going outside of government guidelines, even if I wouldn't hesitate to eat the food myself. In this rare case I will throw caution to the wind. Oh for heaven's sake, cured ham? Warm for 3 hours? Yes, you can eat it. I can't swear that i...

Whaddya think? Can I say this out loud?

11:48 AM
lol :D
I'm not sure @Jolenealaska, it was 100 degrees.... I think bacteria like that temperature.
Also, isn't all ham cured? :)
Maybe give the official guidelines in your answer, and then your own thought/opinion in a comment?

No, all ham is not cured.
"Ham" just means the back leg of a pig.

Yes, but I have never seen raw ham I think?

OK, it probably makes sense to quote the worrywarts.
I have.
It's just called "fresh ham" here.
OK, how bout that?

12:19 PM
lol...1 errant "E". How did that get there?

where?
on in the chatbox?

He edited my ham answer to change lightening to lightning

oooh :P

12:34 PM
Once on ELU my fairly long answer was edited to change a "," to a ";".

:D

really? You edited to add a dot?

I thought edits should be substantial?

yep. We actually have a user here that makes me crazy that way.
I'd like a checkbox that says 'Do not bump", then minor edits wouldn't bug me. Correct is better than not correct, but I hate seeing the whole first page flooded with year old posts with one misspelling corrected.

yes!

12:42 PM
And I hate seeing those in my review queue.
approve...you're encouraging the behavior

yes
but the edits are better
I usually reject them...
the rules clearly state that edits should be substantial
also, didn't you go to bed?

reject...well, pfft, it's going to get approved anyway, and the corrections are generally valid.
yes, I do this all the time.
One little detour = hours

:D
go to bed, woman!

If you pull a Tall and happen to see a minor thing while the post is still new, then by all means jump on it.
IMO
OK OK.
G'night. :)

1:06 PM
bye ;)

2 hours later…
3:01 PM
good morning

3:18 PM
@rfusca good afternoon :)

@rumtscho what time is it there?

@rfusca 16:20. Sunset should be within 5 minutes, officially. One of the things I absolutely dislike about december.

ikr?
dark too dang early

you're probably getting a bit more of sun, I think Atlanta is more in the south

Hello!

3:22 PM
waaaait... if this is not some weird projection issue, central Germany is at the same lattitude as Quebec?!
hi @Cindy
It's worse! Frankfurt am Main is 50 North, Quebec is 46 North! The meager geographical knowledge in my head is getting shaken up very badly right now.

@rumtscho oh i'm very sure
@rumtscho haha

I so much like summer with longer days. Sunlight makes me feel better for some strange reason.

And Atlanta is 33, the same as Lebanon (!)

Who'd have thought?

I knew that North America is a lot larger of Europe, but I wasn't aware that half of it lies to the south of Europe's southern border

3:28 PM
I need a map.

I just used Google Maps, zoomed to show all the world on the screen. And looked up cities' coordinates on Wikipedia.
I think you can't judge area on Google maps, because the map projection they use make everything in to look much wider when it gets close to the poles
but you can compare vertical distance

Yes, I found one that I could tell pretty well. It's been a while!
Sorry, but I must run. See you later. :)

@rumtscho lol
yup, we're south :)

3:46 PM
@rfusca I knew that you are "south". I've always thought of it as a relative south, compared to other US states. How long are your days now in December?

@rumtscho still 24 hours :)
hehe
7:37am - 5:32 pm , sunrise to sunset

Grrr. For a language with so many words, English has some very obvious gaps. For example, no word for "daynight". Which makes everybody employ "day" as its homonym.
@rfusca Enjoy it.
We have 8:17 to 16:26 today.

@rumtscho ouch
@rumtscho typically, somebody would phrase that 'How long is it light outside?" or "How long is your daytime?" or such

Yes, but I've grown with the luxury of having a word for "day" which is the opposite of "night", and not a synonym of "daynight". You know, when you're once accustomed to being rich, becoming frugal is hard. You still behave as if you have the means you used to :)
