8:00 PM
@angelatlarge what site do you usually use to upload long texts?

@jippie To where?

@angelatlarge a listing or so upload on internet so we can view it.

@jippie For sharing code I like pastebin

@angelatlarge Whoa! no swearing!

@coding_corgi pastebin

8:01 PM
@coding_corgi Swearing?
@jippie :)
@jippie Are we playing a game of Avian Carrier Telephone?

@angelatlarge the big b, towards the end of your message..

Guys don't flag messages unnecessarily. Many users across the whole stack see the flags pop up

@jippie in chat?

@rawbrawb Yep

@jippie Flag as in "star"? Or flag as in "offensive/pr0n/spam/tony"?

8:03 PM
@angelatlarge Offensive

yeah.... chat flags are "global"
and all mods/10k users see them

@coding_corgi I think it is a perfectly cromulent word, which I was using in its canonical meaning: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bastard, i.e. child born out of wedlock, treated not as one's own.

@W5VO but that is different than stars - right?

@jippie HEX file: pastebin.com/fFhAzD0t

@W5VO and people start dropping in from everywhere to check out the finest room of whole SE :o)

8:04 PM
@rawbrawb Correct, but it's the next symbol over :)

@angelatlarge oh i see, strange definitions...

@W5VO PHEW! I've never touched that so I can't get the wrath of @Jippie! Yippie!

@coding_corgi Really? Strange? I wouldn't have thought. But then I am technically a bastard: I was conceived out of wedlock.

@coding_corgi that decodes fine here

@coding_corgi Though I am not sure if one needs to be conceived or born out of wedlock, actually.

8:06 PM
@coding_corgi and it isn't a swear word in any usage....
@angelatlarge born

@rawbrawb I guess that would have to be true.
@rawbrawb The point was to encourage people to marry, so you had 9 months to do it after an "accident".

ahh... shotgun weddings :)

@angelatlarge the irish have it coded into names. the Fitz prefix means "bastard child of .."

@angelatlarge what would be the pastebin for .elf files?

@jippie rivendale?

8:08 PM
@rawbrawb Really?!?! That is soooooo good!
@jippie /dev/null
@jippie bittorrent?

@angelatlarge LOL

@coding_corgi what is the full name for the .elf file in the same directory?
@angelatlarge yes you are so funny

@jippie what?

@jippie No, I am seriousely trying to think of a public space for hosting binary files.
@jippie If you slap a .jpg header on it, maybe imgur?
2

@angelatlarge Ha ha!

8:10 PM
@coding_corgi you are on ubunty. What is the output for ls *.elf in the directory where you found the .hex?

@W5VO Yeah. Can you explain the motivation for raising h*ll when someone says something, and the fire brigade of 10k users has to be summoned?
@jippie I can't think of anything... find a public ftp server that allows anonymous uploads somewhere?
@jippie I am stoopid: just uuencode it and post on pastebin :)
@jippie or binhex, or base-64 or whatever bin->ASCII encoding you like.

@jippie it says no directory for *.elf, (i deleted the elf file), and yes I am on Precise Pangolin,
though Saucy Salamander looks good, it may be too beta, I had a bad expierence with 13.04...

why would you delete the .elf file?
ok
@coding_corgi what is the name of the .cpp file?

@jippie no need for it anymore
@jippie main.cpp

@coding_corgi why would I ask for it if there is no need for it?
ok

8:14 PM
@jippie [========>......]

@angelatlarge ?

@coding_corgi @jippie knows.

@coding_corgi repeat after me:

@jippie Have I done a sin for the AVR god?
Not that I care, can always move on to PIC
Nope, no need for PIC

@coding_corgi I don't think you are going to enjoy PIC. Maybe RPi though.

8:16 PM
avr-gcc -g -DF_CPU=1000000 -Wall -Os -Werror -Wextra -mmcu=attiny85 -Wa,-ahlmns=main.lst -c -o main.o main.cpp

@angelatlarge I think your pronoucing it wrong, i think you meant RIP PIC

@jippie AHA! Got you to make avr-gcc produce a listing!
@coding_corgi Negative on that sir.

@angelatlarge Why not, they are programmed in VISUAL BASIC

avr-gcc -g -DF_CPU=1000000 -Wall -Os -Werror -Wextra -mmcu=attiny85 -o main.elf main.o

Excuse me but, RIP VISUAL BASIC

8:19 PM
@coding_corgi RPi = Rasp Pi

@angelatlarge Chat exception handling is crap

avr-objdump -C -d main.elf 2>&1
@coding_corgi paste the output of that third command on pastebin

@angelatlarge RIP RPi? Okay, i'll stop now..

@jippie That was just to avoid giving me any moral victories? Watch out, I'll send you to www.bitbucket.com for your listings.

it's sorta a 'one size fits all' cluster

8:21 PM
@angelatlarge I always do both
then I look at the one that is easiest to read

@jippie I do too now, actually. It's part of my Makefile

if that fails I look at your moral victory

@W5VO Yeah, odd.
@jippie I shouldn't have called it a victories. Victories are in zero-sum games. This aint. It's more like points/rep/happiness.

@jippie what is main.o?
is it main.cpp compiled
but not an .out file nor a .exe?

@coding_corgi it is called an object file. Don't know what it exactly is, just know it is an intermediate result.

8:25 PM
@jippie from what?

@coding_corgi from the compiler.
Try google on object files. I don't know. You can't do without.

@jippie What's the use of making a new .hex file, code is code, what do you think this is going to do? (Thanks for your help so far)

@kortuk hasn't been here so long that even tab-completion doesn't work anymore
@coding_corgi where did I mention .hex?

@jippie to program an avr from a .cpp file you need a hex file right?

@coding_corgi where did I mention programming?

8:28 PM
@jippie What are you trying to do? Get the elf file?

@coding_corgi yes, and the disassembly listing.
but we can make a .hex too

@jippie dissassembly listing?

from the third command I gave you
11 mins ago, by jippie
avr-objdump -C -d main.elf 2>&1

@jippie What does that do?

it generates a disassembly listing.
avr-objcopy -j .text -j .data -O ihex main.elf main.flash.hex

8:31 PM
@jippie what's that do?
(sorry about my curiosity)
ok, i'll just run my regular commands...
get the elf file..\

avrdude -p attiny85 -c arduino -P/dev/ttyACM0 -b9600 -v -U flash:w:main.flash.hex
no, copy and paste them from chat
there is an error somewhere

okay...

@coding_corgi you post its output on pastebin so i can have a look at it tomorrow

@jippie i will just take a second..

@angelatlarge => does an Uno have so many timers?

8:38 PM
@jippie ok gimme a sec

/me is off to bed

@jippie elf file dissassembly pastebin.com/u3SFbRDa
@jippie what is a .flash.hex file?

it is the regular hex file for flash memory, just an extra bit structured for other types of memory in the controller (fuses and eeprom)

@jippie how do I make one?

14 mins ago, by jippie
avr-objcopy -j .text -j .data -O ihex main.elf main.flash.hex
time for bed
/me is out

8:47 PM
@jippie Good night.
@jippie That Serve.h + VirtualWire.h problem is actually fairly straightforward.

@jippe good night, thanks for all your help avr god!

@jippie But no easy fixes :(
@coding_corgi He is more like ArdweenoVR god.

@angelatlarge good one!
@jippie all that hard work and no different out put, same error from long, long ago..

@coding_corgi not so much the hard work, rather the missed rep.

9:05 PM
@coding_corgi And he cares about the rep!

@angelatlarge ahh...

@jippie I am currently doing management training, so no computer for a full day at a time.

@jippie if you help me get the programmer working i'll upvote most of your posts, mebe comments too, I that desperate to get my Arduino to work as a programmer now..

@coding_corgi If you just go upvote someone's posts it can tell and will remove your votes. :)

@Kortuk Do you know how to make an Arduino a AVR programmer?

9:20 PM
@coding_corgi Sorry, I am pretty arduino retarded. I normally get help from Jippie also.

@Kortuk You can't actually see the votes, right?

@angelatlarge You are correct.
@angelatlarge that is not a moderator level, that is a SE staff level.

@Kortuk Aren't the mod powers rather...mmm.... limited?

@angelatlarge Well, there is messiness here. I cant really tell you what I have access to, I dont know what I can make public. I can see more and less then what you think. :)

@Kortuk But it isn't like this:

9:32 PM
@angelatlarge That's wierd...

@angelatlarge Ohh, that is pretty close.

@Kortuk Need a new gravatar? :)

@angelatlarge Nope, I will update mine one day, I have made it year or more between changes before.
@angelatlarge I will probably update again after GABF.

@Kortuk You need a passed-out, choking on own vomit picture?

@angelatlarge That one is from meeting up with one of the other mods and one of the SE comm team members. There was a tree perfectly positioned behind me and it greatly entertains me.
@angelatlarge Ha, that is awful.

10:10 PM
Yo yo yo!

10:57 PM
@Kortuk You still around?
@rawbrawb Do you have an example of that?

11:11 PM
@angelatlarge Hello.

@Kortuk Can you do me a favor, and take a look at this:
0
A: Problems using Servo.h and VirtualWire.h in arduino

angelatlargeOn the compile problem The problem is that both Servo.cpp and VirtualWire.cpp try to use the same interrupt vector. In the Servo.cpp source (line 103 as mentioned in the error you saw): #if defined(_useTimer1) SIGNAL (TIMER1_COMPA_vect) { handle_interrupts(_timer1, &TCNT1, &OCR1A); } #endif ...

@Kortuk Not looking for an upvote!
@Kortuk And see my comment underneath mostly. What do think?
@Kortuk You can completely TL;DR the answer itself, actually.

based on his first revision I just think you misunderstood him
Just edit and answer the other question in your answer also, your answer is good, you just need to explain how to use the other library also.

11:35 PM
@Kortuk Yeah, you are right. He knows what the compile problem is about, it's just that there were no steps to fix it, that threw me off. Thanks.
