10:00 PM
@Gilles tbf that is really offtopic here.

I said the former, while you inferred the latter.

they both sound alike.

@AviD I'd tell you to migrate to U&L, but the answers suck, so, no

@AviD What, are you blind?

@Gilles ah was gonna ask.

10:01 PM
We really need a "migrate to another site that's not one of the top 4 choices" option.

what if I migrate and you close as duplicate?
@Iszi I can do that. but @Gilles he say noooo.

@AviD we don't seem to have a dupe

@AviD No, I mean for normal users.

oic

Been saying that for awhile.

10:02 PM
and since migration preserves the votes, we'd end up with some bad answers that we'd have a hard time correcting

@Gilles so if the answers suck here, lemme move it there and you give it GOOD answers
you / UnL

migrate to SU, who cares about quality there?

hahaha

@AviD We can't, because we'd have to compete with a mediocre answer coming in at +20 already

Q: Ghost Vulnerability - CVE-2015-0235

DevNullDoes the Ghost Vulnerability require access (as in being a logged in user) to the effected OS in question? Can someone clarify the 'remote attacker that is able to make an application call'? I only seem to find tests to run on the local system directly but not from a remote host. All the informa...

@Gilles yes, we are familiar with this scenario.

10:03 PM
^^^^ this is our reference question, but it's already pretty big and doesn't cover rebooting (beyond saying it's the easy way)

Migration should be available for: [TopSite 1], [TopSite 2], [TopSite 3], [Meta.ThisSite], and [user-specified other].

@Iszi yeah, thats what we have now.
different order though

@AviD No, we don't have that last bit.
The [user-specified other].

@Iszi [user-specified other] is “flag” → “other”

I'm looking at it right now.

10:05 PM
@Gilles Right. I'm saying it should be part of the migration options instead of requiring mod intervention.
'Cause the network's just too damn big to restrict us to 3 options.

@Iszi only if there was a minimum rep requirement on the target site

@Iszi too many fish in the sea?

@Gilles Oh, nice idea. Arguably a little overkill, but nice.

because people migrate all kinds of crap on the basis that we don't want this shit here but surely those guys would love to wallow in it
migration should be based on “it's off-topic here” PLUS “we want it here” (for a different here)
but currently it's “it's off-topic here” plus “let's shove it over there”

How about "X rep on current" plus "Y network-wide rep"?

10:08 PM
@Iszi this has been discussed on Meta Stack Exchange

Still need to understand why GHOST didn't get as much attention as Shellshock.

vulnerability fatigue?

Not as exciting a logo

or as Lego(tm)
@Simon because its only for Linux. Nobody uses Linux.

@AviD pls

10:19 PM
Then feel free to move along and help somebody who needs it. I, nor OP, need what you have posted thus far. — user1801810 1 hour ago
Jesus @schroeder really, move along :D
I don't really see any input from OP that this one talks about tho
Another odd account - 19 answers, 105 rep
Might have as well said "I can do just fine not helping anyone without your guidance, damnit!"

yeah
he must believe that I am so wrong that all souls are aligned with his righteous indignation

Would mods kindly please cross-check IPs of this one and the previous one with fantastically rated bunch of answers?
cc @AviD @RoryAlsop
similar style, vague conjectures with "if this doesn't work explain more" comments in answers (which should be comments)
also @RoryAlsop you might be interested in our next chat event in The Pod Bay ... Comet C/2014 Q2 Lovejoy perihelion live via Slooh

@TildalWave sorted

I shouldn't feel vindicated, but I do :)
It's an interesting question, in general

10:37 PM
@schroeder I like that type of answer, really I do. "What you want answers on a Q&A site??"

lol

"your detailed response is completely unhelpful. What the OP needs to hear is some generic platitude about how I scratch my arse in private."
"10/10 worked on my arse"
2

You're a platitude.

ROFL

@schroeder I really hope that was not for #Simon.

10:39 PM
nope
"10/10 worked on my arse"

oh, okay then
as long as you're not encouraging him.

never

@Simon s/platitude/platypus

Me, I could do with some encouragement ;-)

@TildalWave Works with me.

10:41 PM
@AviD jeez dude you really put your foot on that delete button there :)

@schroeder Oh you'll encourage me real good.

@TildalWave I tried posting my comment here but it didnt work :-(
I guess because I deleted the answer too soon...

Vancouver. Damn it, you're too far away.

@AviD priorities man!
first mock then delete

@Simon the donuts here have sushi on them

10:44 PM
@schroeder Are you referring to the insane amount of Asians in Vancouver?

@Simon I was referring to the insane amount of sushi places here in Vancouver

Because meni meni azns.

There's a hotdog cart that puts sushi on their hotdogs

lolololol, not a bad idea.
And now I want sushis, god damn it.

"I heard you liked sushi so I put sushi on your sushi

10:46 PM
@JourneymanGeek pretty much

An hotdog cart with a website?

yep
it's a great place to take visitors: here's a hot dog with tuna, seaweed, and it kinda works!

11:04 PM
@schroeder that's just a very strange sushi roll

@Simon wot?

@TildalWave "Many, many Asians"

there are?

in Vancouver? yes
Asians and South Asians
white folks are the minority

interesting
how come?

11:10 PM
In my office right now, there are 12 people, 3 are white
in my view

OK but is there some historical reason why Vancouver?

Why so many Asians? Kinda a long topic
It was a major hub for immigrants in early 1900's
and Canada has a tradition of allowing family of naturalized citizens to enter
so it snowballs a little
Canada also prides itself on being "mosaic" instead of a "melting pot" so people feel more free to maintain their culture and language here

that explains it then, cheers!

so it's pretty popular

@schroeder that's a nice way of looking at it

11:13 PM
So, how many words for snow do you have in Canada? :)

@Ohnana it has its pros and cons - sometimes people find it difficult to assimilate when they want to

@schroeder I see.

@Ohnana on the other hand, there isn't the expectation that everyone should speak English (or French) perfectly, and there is more of a feeling of being a citizen of the world

11:31 PM
there is ALWAYS that expectation. MURIKA!

hey I'm nine days older than PHP
neat

11:49 PM
@Ohnana I knew that you weren't legal, HA!

@Simon not really a fan of alcohol
