Q: Defense in Depth vs Single security Architecture

Pang Ser Larktraditionally, we have been that defense in depth is the best practice approach if we want to secure our premises from security breach. However I recently read about DoD's Joint information environment (JIE) and one component talks about single security architecture. however after reading up a bi...

I was intrigued until "cloud"

@LucasKauffman What about butt?

I'm not sure what's more suprising, that Minecraft has it's own convention, or that the guardian are running a liveblog of it... theguardian.com/technology/live/2015/jul/04/…

Q: How to be a cloud security architect?

user253628I am computer science major and I am working hard on many aspects. I tried to do research in many areas in computer sincere with some professor but the things were difficult. Recently I'v a chance to work with someone who good at cloud security. My question is what I should do before the first me...

sometimes I don't even know where to start
granted, that's his problem too

You presumably don't have the time to do much, certainly not study anything. Your question is so vague that I don't think we can help you with this over the Internet, what you need here is personal advice — or just live and learn. If you want to learn about security, try to find some relevant courses, read a few books (Security Engineering is a very good one), don't worry about the “cloud” bit for now (that's just today's fad, not a career choice), and browse Information Security. — Gilles ♦ 15 secs ago

aannd they've got Youtube stars playing Minecraft live on-stage later!

and does this clear the way for .... the Doughnutgeddon!

12:13 PM
@AviD you around?
how do you feel about something like this?
I can still work on it, I made layers and shit such LOL

12:26 PM
hmmm yeah it's independence day ... happy independence day mercans!

Using a logo filling star and putting the wasp in the inner part is another idea.

yup that might actually look better, I'll try and see

With the current design small details matter a lot but become hard to recognize on smaller resolutions.

it's just previews really ... it's not even properly centered and such, important is that I now have layers and can play with them
owasp logos came only in everything merged

hey @CodesInChaos I migrated crypto.stackexchange.com/questions/26699/… to Cryptography by mistake. It's not really on-topic since the asker set out to wring a RNG, not necessarily a CSRNG.
I meant to migrate it to Code Review, I wrote a CR-style answer (my answer is the only one), and only after that did I realize I'd migrated to the wrong site
Sorry about this
I don't think anybody actually wants the question on Crypto, so if you delete it and clear the migration history I'll take care of it from the CS side

12:32 PM
@Gilles Deleting causes a rejection and unlocks the question on cs, right?

@CodesInChaos yes

done

thanks
now to type carefully

Code Review

It probably would have been possible to edit it to become on topic, by focusing on "thread timing as entropy source" instead of the concrete implementation.

@CodesInChaos yeah, and if he wants to ask more about that, he can do it

12:37 PM

but he's veeeery far from anything relevant to crypto
I just compiled and ran his code for fun, the output has visible cycles

looks like a compass :)

@TildalWave The low contract between the wasp and the star is a bit problematic.

@CodesInChaos you mean more shadow?
or more contrast? I could lighten the background and deepen shadow of the wasp, that would do it, but I want @AviD's take first, then polish
and he's probably busy being a mercan today :)

My main concern is that it doesn't work well when I resize it to 64x64 or even smaller.

12:51 PM
I know, I'll work on that later, add some glitter to it yada yada ... @AviD thought to use that wavy flag but that didn't work out, so all this is so far just working out the layout and for first impression ... screen optimizations et al. come later
and the wasp could probably be a bit bigger too ...

5:03 PM
... I want a donut...

@JeffFerland is that the special meal for the 4th of July?
I somehow imagined it would involve large quantities of burnt meat

5:53 PM
I'm open to the power of suggestion

6:24 PM
I suggest the correct spelling...
:-)

@RoryAlsop be bold

room topic changed to The DMZ: I love donuts.!! [donuts] [food] [libations] [rory] [security]
@CodesInChaos done
Bah, markdown rendering is inconsistent

6:55 PM
Hahahahahaha
Nice try @Gilles

@CodesInChaos fixed that FTFY for you
@CodesInChaos dont let the blue go to your head! ;-)
@RоryMcCune I need to try that sometime :-)
@RоryMcCune @RoryAlsop just had the craziest whiskey (misspelt because its amerkan, not proper scotch whisky) today - It's called Fireball, and it is "cinnamon whiskey".
my first response was "whaaaaaaat", but it actually was really awesome
reminds me of those Red Hot candies, but whisky flavored
@TildalWave tolja, no rush at all!! conference not till october, so we're starting to publicize, but like I said its not at all urgent
whenever you do happen to do it, thats great and much appreciated
@TildalWave btw I have no idea how they were done technically, but I ignorantly thought the irish one looks damn good
there are others ofc, I just trawled the chapters pages and grabbed a few...

Q: Strange Security Key of F.C.E. 365 - What this protect?

Sn0wcatcherIs someone able to tell me what crypto algorithm F.C.E 365 is using? I caught the following key from a faulty old version of F.C.E. 365 Carmen. I can't understand a bit of it. What is this key meant to do? I spent 6 days to get it (I think that it is not complete (some <> segments are missing). A...

does this mean anything to anybody?
as the commenter said, I never heard of this thing. seems a pretty unclear question to me, but maybe somebody else has a clue.
