9:03 PM
@AviD I should try becoming a mod on some WhoCaresAboutIt.SE just so I can see removed messages

uhh it wasnt anything interesting, it was just a brainfart
about the first nomination I saw, which said basically "Don't vote for me"
I seem to be doing that a lot lately
like just now when I panicked after applying a filter to a client's spreadsheet and not seeing all the rows I expected
after freaking out and hunting up older files, it turns out a simple solution would be to just scroll up.
context?
bear tokens have access to everything.

@ton.yeung oh yeah, durp
hmm, if I ever knew the answer to that level of detail, I've surely forgotten it by now.
Which is likely.
oh no, it totally is
there are a tonne of delicate details, and a lot of moving parts
it is also a very flexible protocol, which just makes it dificult to implement a basic use case.
aint no such thing as a "basic use case"

LOL Server Fault election primaries are funny
a bit disappointed not to see some of the faces from here tho

My current ticket for the final is 1. Signal15, 2. F. Hauri. I might vote for someone else if they demonstrate common sense on meta.

interesting choice

basically a protest vote

9:17 PM
yeah I figured

I've known sysadmins IRL who were competent and not assholes. For some reason that type doesn't show up on Server Fault.

jrg
They need more DevOps on serverfault.
too many old-school old people. ;-)

@jrg devops? Are you kidding? There can't be developers on SF! If they don't wear the same color slacks, they should stick to their own site!

jrg
@Gilles Hah.
yeah, my experience with SF has been less than warming.
like them, but i'm too reckless and developer like.

variety.com/2014/biz/news/… <-- when media company level security meets determined attackers

9:26 PM
> Sony Pictures Entertainment has told employees companywide to not connect to corporate networks or access email.
Let me guess. They'll tell them when it's OK to access their email by email, right?

@TildalWave sounds like (as the young people might say) ep1c pwn4g3

at the very least it's a successful DoS

@RоryMcCune eponec pwnfourgthree?

@TildalWave exactly

you young people!

9:31 PM
@TildalWave wait, that's confusing. I thought Sony was the hackers?

@AviD sometimes hackers hack other hackers

@Gilles ah, so this is hacktivism?
maybe somebody is still pissed off about that signed rootkit they distributed a few years ago.

@AviD Shoot, I swore off Sony products after that, but at this point, even I'm starting to feel sorry for them.

@Xander "sorry"?
Do you feel sorry for the surgeon who drives to do an operation while drunk?
2

jrg
No.

9:37 PM
@AviD The idiots who decided that it was OK to package malware with your music are not the security ops people who are having to clean up the current messes. So I deny that your analogy is relevant. :-)

@Xander Sony has security ops people?
I think the past few years have shown that is likely to not be the case.

@AviD They must. Somebody told their employees not to use email or connect to wifi any more.

and if there are - don't forget they chose to work at Sony.
@Xander ah, you mean "security" people.
like Dilbert's Mordred.

@AviD because remember, “shall I work at Sony or shall I starve?” is a choice

@AviD LOL, yes, that is a pertinent distinction.

9:44 PM
@Gilles false dichotomy.

@AviD true, it's possible to starve while working at Sony

Hmm, @ThomasPornin must be asleep. I just nailed a crypto question in his absence.
@Gilles ha, not the way I meant it, but I suppose thats possible.

10:11 PM
any fedramp pros? I was wondering if it had any DR requirements or definitions for a vendor (me)

@schroeder Not a pro, (we have FedRAMP certified customers we work with, so just passingly familiar) but there definitely are DR requirements. Looking at the baseline workbook, there are requirements around contingency planning and testing, alternate storage and processing sites, backups, and systems recovery and reconstitution.

@Xander ah, ok - I don't have the workbook, yet - thanks for the info

ah, that DR. it is ambiguous, I was assuming "design review". this makes more sense now.

1 hour later…
11:37 PM
@AviD I'm still not sure if it's meant to be "Data Retention" or simply "Didn't Read" :)

Disaster Recovery, silly

ah well I was ... almost close
you'd want your data well retented in an eventuality of disaster recovery wouldn't you? :P

heh
you sure twist some words there.... Congratulations, you are ready to work at Sony!

all the snarky puns, wasted on Stack Exchange, when I could be working for Sony :P
@AviD How else am I supposed to pretend I know my shit? I could start talking in Latin but that's too academic I wouldn't make a cent on it but I could publish some papers...

11:53 PM
Maybe OWASP is hiring translators to obscure languages? I could write them a JS that would translate outdated info to Morse code and Braille :)

This is the awesomest thing I've seen all day.

hehehe well that'd solve the problem of finding a parking spot :)
