@JonEricson - I just edit my question. It's funny - my question coincided with the discovery of a small piece of papyrus written in Coptic language in the 4th century claiming that Jesus had a wife.

@brilliant I figured it was because of the discovery.
The edit helps clarify what you are asking, but I don't think it's ontopic.
Maybe if you asked the question with some indication of how the answer could be applied to understanding a text that is in the Bible, it would help.

@JonEricson "I figured it was because of the discovery" - I heard this news about one day after I asked this question. Thanks for the link.

So I've edited a few questions to be of the form "Why is X significant?"
My thought is that we are going to get questions from people who are interested in things that are tangentially related to the Bible and when they come up, we need to frame them as questions relating X to the Bible.
I don't know if this is a good idea but we've had one such question hanging around from day one:
12
Q: Why is the Septuagint (LXX) significant?

CalebWhat is the LXX and why is it so noteworthy that there is a Greek translation of the OT? Wouldn't it be better to reference the Hebrew original?
