@Susan Thanks for the feedback. About "(2)" - saying the vowels in the MT is one thing: but I read @Joseph as referring consistently to "דָּגָה" as the Piel Inf Abs, which it isn't of course. Could be a mis-reading, but he never gave us different vowels.
And Prov 31:8 wasn't in my list last night (BWks 7), but I see it this morning (BWks 9). And yes, Qal Inf Abs, but that's no help to Joseph. I was trying to help him account for the ha- prefix and the slightly unusual syntax. Interesting (or happenstance) that 4/5 construct noun + inf abs have the verb in Hiphil.

@curiousdannii "Rewriting answers 100% is not generally appropriate" I think it is very appropriate, do you have some M.SE link to support your idea that it is discouraged? — Jack Douglas 55 secs ago
^^^ I don't think I've ever heard this before, is it a real thing?

@JackDouglas Is it this sort of thing? "Can I edit my own answer in a way that changes its meaning?" There's an even a(n "accepted") reply from @JackDouglas in there. ;)

I meant 'official' guidence
but thanks :)

@Davïd [edit] "...saying the vowels in the MT" are wrong "is one thing"... (sheesh)
@JackDouglas Ah, right! I see there's at least this one: "Editing an answer to change the answer", although it didn't seem to elicit much response - and it's not "own edit" either, I see.

also bearing in mind that the answer was something like +1/-1 at the time of the change - both those meta answers mention doing violence to prior voters which is moot in that case
@Davïd I couldn't find anything better than that on M.SE - I'm surprised there isn't something official

@JackDouglas True - it doesn't seem like that much of an "edge" case, especially on SE's like this one.

^^^ seems to be all we have

@JackDouglas Maybe it's time for a post to Meta.SE?
@Susan P.s. :) In my comment, the "| ¶ " bit was supposed to indicate "new paragraph". (What else are you going to do in a comment?) So little list of four verses that follow was supposed to be my constructive contribution, distinct from the (4)'th puzzle point that preceded. (FWIW. Not very much, I reckon.)

7:48 AM
@Davïd I thought that was what you meant, but you might have been better off just posting 2 comments?

@Davïd Oh yeah, I had kind of forgotten the ha- part when I wrote that. No articles on Hebrew infinitives I suppose. Too bad, really. I wondered if your search had been limited to singular constructs for some reason. (Unless BWks 7 is calling בְּנֵ֥י something other than construct or חֲלֽוֹף something other than inf absolute, which seems difficult to imagine.)
@Davïd Ah, I get it. I didn’t really know what all those little marks were meant to be so I ignored them. ¶ kind of looks like פ , doesn’t it?

@Susan Ah yes, the pe- like pilcrow, and a sense of déjà lu. ;)

@Davïd Yes, I did note that you recently told me something about that, but I wasn't integrating. I was tired, OK? :P

@Susan Yep, entirely OK. :)

The curly only works in the code font. | ¶

@Susan That code-font (Consolas, I believe?) pilcrow is quite fetching. And, yes, echoes the פ more strikingly. Which I only just noticed (speaking of not integrating....) (And I don't even have an excuse!)

Good Morning
anyone care to "check my mud"?
@user74973 I have edited my answer drastically, I think that this makes far more sense than my original answer — Malachi 41 secs ago

@Lyle'sMug I’m not sure I completely follow. I guess I read the logic of 4:12 as being something like 1:6, where it’s explained a bit more.

@Susan from what I could find with a short search is that the Corinthians felt neglected, like their sufferings weren't important to Paul, and this second letter is Paul's response trying to justify his actions to the Corinthians. is that how you understand it?

@Davïd @Susan I think you are mis-reading. He basically always refers to it as the "word" or "verb" דָּגָה, using it as a reference to the lexical form of the verb. It probably would help if he noted the Piel form (or lack of pointing in the DSS).

@ScottS Thanks - that did, in fact, cross my mind. But there are serious problems with proposing a Piel here -- chiefly, how to deal with the consonantal text which does not admit of a Piel! A problem I thought you would appreciate. :) And that's only for starters....
