@ktm5124 The Hebrew (per Wikipedia) is דָּגֵשׁ. My understanding is that with a long vowel in the final syllable it can't be segholate, i.e. the stress must go on that final syllable. In Hebrew. However, I've mostly heard it pronounced with the stress on the first syllable, probably the most natural rendering for an English speaker. (Sort of like "Sabbath" from שַׁבָּת , etc.)

@Susan Ah, that's very helpful. I can see why one would accent dagesh on the ultima (since it follows from the Hebrew) and why there might also be a tendency to accent the first syllable (as it's more natural to English speakers). The Shabbat analogy is a good one!
