@josephh re your answer here, you'd be better off asking in here.

7 hours later…
I cleaned up this room's ACL's a little. Dan and Jack seem to have room-owner status from before when they were mods. Both have mod ninja powers in here so no need for that, but I did throw in a couple names of folks I see hanging out in here a lot. Ya'll get a few extra buttons like being able to kick people out of the room temporarily in case there is ever a disturbance when mods aren't around (with every mod on the SE network having chat mod privs, that isn't often but it happens).

@JackDouglas How have you been?

@PaulVargas Hi :)
mostly good thanks, how about you?

@JackDouglas Long time no see!
@JackDouglas I'm fine, thank God.
How do you see this question?

@PaulVargas it's a bit 'non-expert', isn't it?
Is it even in Exodus?
@MadaraUchiha what brings you here? You're very welcome by the way :)

@JackDouglas A flag from several days ago.
I'm surprised that I'm still in the room :D

Ah yeah that happens :)

Q: Moses' manufacture of the "bronze serpent" - what bronze?

GAS4In Numbers 21:9 it says: So Moses made a bronze snake and put it on a pole, so that if a snake had bitten someone, when he looked at the bronze snake he lived. [NET] Where would Moses probably get the bronze to fashion into a serpent when he was leading the Jews around in the desert? Has t...

@Davïd re-opened, thanks!

@Susan Was just going to see what you thought. :)

@Davïd Seems to me there's nothing wrong with it. You?
@Davïd help center says we can ask about "historical context" of a given text

@Susan Yes - looks fine. In fact, I think I'm going to pop in a quick answer.

@Davïd Looking forward to it.

10:32 PM
@Susan Not much to look forward to! :D

@Davïd well, I know nothing about the existence of bronze in the desert of Moses' day, so I've got to learn something...
@Davïd By the way, thanks for that transliteration tool I grabbed from your conversation with Paul. I'm always confounded by transliteration; this is much easier than trying to figure it out.

@Susan Quite a useful little webapp for us BH.SE types, I think.

@Davïd The Hebrew I don't get at all, though. Seems like half the vowels are gone and half are there arbitrarily (I'm sure it's not, but I can't figure it out): br'shyt br' elohim eth hshmym we'eth ha'arets

@Susan Maybe it depends where you get your text from to copy/paste.
Try this: בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם וְאֵ֥ת הָאָֽרֶץ׃
Which is the Mechon Mamre text with cantillation.
= bereshith bara elohim eth hashshamayim we'eth ha'arets in the "simple" output
= bĕrēʾšît bārāʾ ʾĕlōhîm ʾēt haššāmayim wĕʾēt hāʾāreṣ "SBL style"

I still get br'shyt br' elohim eth hshmym we'eth ha'arets
The vowels in hashshamayim are definitely there in the Hebrew
Oh my goodness, in light of our previous conversation I tried it in Firefox: bereshith bara elohim eth hashshamayim we'eth ha'arets
Seems my problem is Safari again...

@Susan Ah - a certain pattern is emerging!

@Davïd Yeah, but the beta iOS app for SE is really cool!
