Maybe you guys can give some advice! Trying to pick between: performance vs. age of product vs. price, on the following four+ smartphones, for my next phone:

-Samsung Galaxy S4 or S5 (they are only ~$100 difference, for a whole year difference in product dates and features are very similar)

-LG "Google" Nexus 5, or maybe wait for the 6... If it's super cheap then it will be worth the fact it has less awesome features in some areas.

-HTC One M8 (very aussie sounding!) which seems really good, is 'new', and has (low res) stereo vision cameras for depth of field data. About the same price a
I currently use the HTC One X (2.5 years old now! released April 2012) and it's pretty good. I had a Samsung Galaxy S3 prior to this.

@KyranF sorry, wrong room

@KyranF, I have an LG phone and I'm totally fine with it.

;)

It's the one with the "KitKat" version of Android, I think.

I'm happy with my S4
slips out of my pocket too easily without a case, but that's my main complaint. After 1 yr, battery is more than adequate

On the other hand, I'm not really a "power user" when it comes to phones.
The only apps I've installed are: Stackexchange, HP-48gx emulator, Sudoku game, and a German-English dictionary.

my HTC's battery is really weak after 2.5 years, as you might expect. And it's only 1.8Ah. Some of the new phones on offer have 2.6Ah -3.3Ah and far more efficient hardware, and some have the capability (as long as the charger can do it ;) ) to charge at up to 3A which is pretty damn fast.

@KyranF AFAICT, screen size (and how much you use it) is the big battery consumer. If the battery has 1.5x more capacity, but the screen has 1.5x more area you might not see any improvement in battery life

LG worked with Google to make the Nexus 5 phone, which is cheap and seems reasonably okay. I do like the Galaxy S4/5 so I think if the options are too vast i'll just knee-jerk to one of those. The HTC One M8 is the newest of all, and as a roboticist I really like the stereo vision depth of field stuff (I can make 3D maps using the phone!)
the screen size for most of these phones is only 10% larger than my current one.. but yes I agree.
processing power for heavy duty apps like 3D games matches the screen power consumption easily though, or more. Hopefully these newer SoC processors are more efficient. They are getting crazy now, like 2.6 Ghz quad cores, with 2-3GB RAM. That is almost better specs than my laptop

Hows it goin everybody
I'm lookin for a good read, maybe an app note or something

any suggestions?

@Funkyguy "All About Op-Amps" on the TI website.

@ThePhoton Sweet! I'll check it out, thanks!

@Funkyguy Sorry, wrong title. "Op-amps for Everyone" is the one I was thinking of.

should write a book called "Solving world hunger with op-amps"
It would be an honour to receive negative feedback ;)

a comedy/satire on the engineering and design industry

@KyranF Already ringing with praise, you were railed with all the feedback

I think i might have to bypass that. And add zombies.
