@Boris_yo not unless you need to place the camera remotely or need to avoid camera shake for some reason while making adjustments.
there's also a similar device for linking cameras to smartphones I saw a little while back that does the same thing in the same way

No, that just looks like a very basic shutter release. The thing I'm thinking of went on the hot shoe.

@AJHenderson It sits in the hotshoe, but it connects via the USB port on the side of the camera.
