3:01 AM
I'm on a mission this week to post 1 new photo per day from my vacation
Doing so good so far with 6 photos total
Here is todays - 500px.com/photo/33472175
I finally took the time to setup lightroom publish services which is great. I can post to most of my social networks and online portfolio in about 5mins total for each image.
Facebook, Smugmug, 500px, Flickr, Wordpress, Pinterest
probably a huge waste of time to keep up all of those accounts, but I do somewhat haha

1 hour later…
4:25 AM
@D3C4FF Well I still get my caffine
it's just from either mexicola or back when I was younger, chocolate milk

@AJHenderson Lol.Well, as a kid i drank copious amounts of energy drinks like red-bull/V etc...

but I also get almost no impact from caffine too. I can down several sodas and immediately go to bed without issue and can also not have any for weeks with no withdrawl.

Now that i don't drink it anymore, i'm like... perpetually tired :P
I reckon it fucked me up somewhat while i was developing

but it also isn't too surprising as I'm notoriously tollerent of both stimulants and pain killers

@AJHenderson You should try meth and morphine
At the same time :D

4:28 AM
when I get a cavity filled, they have to inject me 3 or 4 times
and when I had surgery where they actually put me under, they counted back from 10, said I should be out by 7, they got to 0 and actually started commenting about wondering why I wasn't out before I finally went under

@AJHenderson Haha, i had a root canal filling a while ago, it didn't work and they drilled directly into my nerve endings

owie

It still wasn't as bad as the actual pain from the decaying nerve endings. I punched through a wall and blacked out cause i couldn't handle it.
Pro-tip kids. Brush regularly.

so apparently bluray is a major pita, atleast in Encore
my disks keep skipping at random parts each time I build it
the spot with the issue will be consistent for a particular burn
but I can't seem to get a good build

@AJHenderson I think i own... 2? blurays....

4:38 AM
I'm trying to author one

CBF dealing with them if all i need for full 1080P playback is a 25$ raspi and a USB stick...

granted, I still have some time to get it working right, I haven't quite perfected the audio and color grading yet
I never realized what a pain color grading HD video can be
since the color is so much better than anything that was possible in the SD days

@AJHenderson I've done very little work on video so i can't comment really :P

the trick is that you notice much more subtle variations in color in HD
particularly if using a high end rig
so I can get it right and it will be wrong 5 seconds later
granted I don't need it perfect for this project but I want it pretty good
it's my sister's wedding disk
I did finally figure out how to actually make the buttons respond correctly though
so that's good

4:53 AM
What are ya filming with?

5DMiii
same as I do stills
prior to that I was on a Canon GL2 which was a standard def mini-DV 3CCD
ugh, I should so be going to bed like, an hour ago, but I really want to get this encoding started
ok, color grading and audio fixes from tonights build done, time for overdue sleep

5:14 AM
Lol
Alright, goodnight then :D

5 hours later…
10:22 AM
lol now Canon messed up their convention even more. The new camera is 100D, and at the same time they copy pasted 650D into 700D, and just changed the kit lens.

1 hour later…
11:36 AM
an answer by Stan in meta is just great, I very much enjoyed reading it.
3
A: How to ask about a photographer rather than cameras

Stan RogersNo doubt there will be a little bit of luck involved; you have to hit the right segment of the community in the right mood on the right day with the stars aligned just so, and that's if the question is well-formulated, interesting and answerable. Of your two example questions, the first ("Is the...

12:33 PM
My photo on 500px reached "popular" status! Cool! I dont' think that has happened to me before. Not sure how common that is but it was kind of neat seeing all of the comments come in last night.

Ill see if I can boost it a bit :)
81 sharp :)

ha
thanks
@EsaPaulasto I agree. great answer.

1:28 PM
@EsaPaulasto Wait, Stan wrote a great answer. I don't believe it...!! ;)

1:51 PM
@AJHenderson hah, yeah I know it is more of a rule than exception, but I liked this one especially ;)

2:30 PM
@dpollitt That's a nice one, I actually opened an account in 500px to be able to vote for it :)

2:47 PM
@EsaPaulasto wow! well thank you haha
i do like 500px itself quite a bit. i wish they had more printing options though.

3:16 PM
I already had an account in Picasa and Flickr, and now in 500px. Might as well go and upload something... I only really used the Picasa for one of my friends wanted copies of some of my photos (an event thingy) and she recommended Picasa. So far Facebook has met all of my needs :)

4:00 PM
@EsaPaulasto yeah, facebook is really where i get most of my interaction and feedback
i also do like the abilities facebook has around visibility. i can easily share with 10 friends an album, or i can make it public, or just for my "friends". very easy and I use all of those different levels all the time.

4:28 PM
@dpollitt Only one thing missing. Friends tend to like just about any photo I upload (now, I almost never upload more than one at a time) so it does not matter much what is in the photo or even less of the quality of the photo, they like it anyway as of saying I saw this and spent enough time viewing it as it takes to click on the Like-button.
on the other hand, me personally don't have much to show to large public, so I guess for me it is just the same if people click "Like" as a habit or if they really liked it :D
been washing our windows today, which is a chore I don't do too often
but while at it, I got an idea as to why it is a good idea to keep the windows clean
I live in 5th floor, or maybe 6th, depending on the way someone counts floors, so I sometimes get a nice sunset view and might even go out and drive to a better location when I notice a nice sunset is on its way.. but, sometimes it happens the sunset is spectacular and already at its peak, any delay would lessen the colours and effect
need to take a shot thru the window then :P
once again, as usual, it is straight out from camera (Canon 3MP p-n-s)
and of course that photo serves only as a memory of the scene, highly valuable at that, but otherwise useless :D

4:48 PM
@EsaPaulasto haha true. i guess my friends dont "like" every shot i post though. the one that went popular on 500px today got about the most "likes" any picture on facebook ever has for me, so i guess they correlate somewhat.

:)
but those likes were from strangers, who are not hitting Like as a habit ;)

@EsaPaulasto That is an entirely different situation. For one, WoW was offered as a subscription service from the beginning, and people knew going in that if they stopped paying, they stopped playing.
The difference with a productivity tool like Adobe's products...you stop paying, you stop MAKING A LIVING! Not only do you no longer have the ability to create new content, you LOSE THE ABILITY TO ACCESS THE YEARS OF CONTENT YOU ALREADY MADE!
Its wrong. It is extremely destructive to smaller businesses and individual content creators or photographers.
It will destroy a lot of livelihoods. And, I suspect, it will destroy a significant percentage of Adobe's income. There are people and businesses who just plain and simply cannot afford to pay the money, so they won't.

ah, no I was not comparing those. Offered it as a possible explanation as what it was Adobe might have been aiming at with the change. What were they thinking they are doing.

I expect Corel will get a lot of business from this deal.
@EsaPaulasto I think Adobe is plain and simply thinking "Dollar Signs!!"
There is no other reason to charge people TWENTY DOLLARS A MONTH for ONE APP.
That is sixty bucks a month for three.

@jrista that's right, and that's what Blizzard is doing. So Adobe might have thougth it a good idea, lol

4:56 PM
If you couldn't care less about the cloud, and only use two or three Adobe apps, your screwed.
They are trying to force everyone onto the $50/mo package, so they can get as many $600/year accounts rolling as they can.
I really hope it bites them in the ass.
Their product is the basis of so many peoples livelihoods. It is also only possible because they are nearly a monopoly in the market, and this action is extremely detrimental to the customer.

the software in question here is total stranger to me, so this might be a silly question, but here goes: what stops you from using the version 6 ad infinitum?
you already have the license to version 6, right? Why the need for every two-yearly upgrade? Why not wait for, say, five years and then see what's there on the market then.

As far as disabling the software goes if you stop paying your subscription...it should only prevent the creation of new content. By disabling the software entirely, it screws peoples ability to open content they created while they were subscribers. A lot of content creators need the ability to open, print, and do other things with existing files.
@EsaPaulasto Most people will. I certainly will (assuming they don't automatically put me on the cloud...from the way Adobe is wording things, it sounds like CS6 is already cloud enabled, and might "automatically" move over.)
Problem is, for photographers, you only get new RAW file format support when you upgrade.

all right, bummer if it goes like that

Adobe only pushes out updates for old versions of ACR for a limited period of time.
The last updates to the old ACR will stop once the new Photoshop is released.
When I move to a 7D Mark II, for example...I'm screwed.

yeh, I read they will keep up with bug fixes and OS support, nothing more.

5:02 PM
If they make Lightroom a subscription product, I think I'd be willing to make the issue a class-action lawsuit. I'd be so friggin livid I can't even describe it.
No way in hell am I going to LEASE software.
It's just wrong.

I'm a very-low-budget kind of guy, and would never consider buying a high-priced software even though I knew it is the best and I'd really like to use it. But, I do pay some monthly subscription fees when I like the product. Those include cabletv ($29/month) and antivirus software ($9.50/month) and WoW game ($16/month)
I might consider paying for Adobe's power on photoediting if it was down here where I feel it affordable, stress on the word "feel".

@EsaPaulasto Well, the initial investment is a bit high...but generally speaking I rarely spent more than $200 to upgrade every couple of years.
My last upgrade was only $170 for PS CS6.
I bought Lightroom 4 at the same time, and the two together made a package deal, so I think I spent $69 on LR and $179 on PS.
So, that was $250...and it should have lasted me for two years.
Which comes out to about $10/mo for both programs.
HELL of a lot better than $50/mo for a ton of stuff I don't need, services I'll never use, and two products I already own.
I have no interest in spending $600 per year for such a package.

yeh, I hear you

For the number of apps you get in the full MCC suite, I figure the most reasonable price for a per-app per-month subscription fee would be $2.99. :P
I highly doubt Adobe will go that low.

5:42 PM
@jrista I expect it is going to boost piracy

@AJHenderson Yeah, probably.

it's naive for them to think that it won't be cracked

Agreed.

though atleast they haven't shut down their activation servers yet

Heh, all this is is a bigger, better challenge for the guys who love to crack protection mechanisms.

5:43 PM
that was what autodesk did when they aquired SoftImage
they shut down the old license servers to force people to upgrade
cause you couldn't install your software anymore
even though it was less than 4 years old

@AJHenderson Yeah, that would cause a lawsuit.
I guarantee you...there would be tens of thousands of people up in arms if Adobe did that.
I'd join it, too. I'll happily join any class action that results from Adobe shutting down license servers.

I do have to say that a lot of people are unfortunatly upset for things that are not actually true right now
which may be making Adobe think it is less of a problem than it is
lots of people think that they are going to have to have an always on connection to use the software

It will take some time for Adobe to feel the hurt.

or even are going to have to work on adobe's servers

A lot of people have working licenses of Adobe products.
So long as those licenses work, Adobe won't feel the pain.
Eventually, though, they will realize their revenue from monthly subscriptions is lower than their total yearly revenue from upgrades, because a lot of people won't move to CC.
I am certainly not.
Once your on the cloud, your stuck with it.
You run the risk of...price increases, an inability to afford the mothly fee, and thus inability to access your content, server downtime so when your software goes to call home, it fails, and locks you out, etc.
@AJHenderson Yeah, that is only if you use their cloud storage.
If you just use the software, it only calls home once a month.
But that is still a problem...DRM systems have a LONG history of disastrous server stability.
EA is the best example...one debacle after another, for YEARS.
They never anticipate the load (or rather, IMO, just plain and simply don't care), so the DRM servers always go offline, or just get slammed and stop responding, so no one can play their games.

5:48 PM
@jrista It isn't clear yet, but I've heard some rumors that they still plan to sell boxed single products, just won't be doing a boxed bundle. Not sure if that is accurate or not though.

I only use Steam for games now. Never a hitch, games always work.
@AJHenderson Hmm...not accurate according to what I've read.

yeah, I've seen information that points either way

There will be no CS7 at all, only 49.99/mo and 19.99/mo fees for either MCC or individual CC apps.

there is still a lot of bad information flying around
right, but CS is a bundle

Well, if you go to their site, there is only CC now.

5:50 PM
I wouldn't be surprised if you are right, but I would think products like Acrobat would have to have a free standing option

You can DIG, and you'll eventually find CS6 products still for sale...but all the currently listed stuff is only Creative Cloud.
CC is all the new products...its the same stuff that would go in CS7....but there is no CS7.

@jrista well and that's the thing with Steam. Their revenue is the market and their market is dependent on availability, not content
so they have a driven business interest in making it work smoothly
EA on the other hand only has an interest in making money from the games
the DRM is an afterthought that they want to protect them, not work as a product for the consumer

EA isn't any different these days. They created Origin, which is their version of Steam.
They sell more and more content on Origin, but its always screwed up.

personally, what I'd really like to see a law about is that activation servers/drm servers should be required to be provided by a manufacturer until an unlocked executable is made available

I don't usually adhere to the notion that companies just like to suck their customers dry...but in EA's case, having been invited to their corporate offices personally in the past...EA cares about NOTHING but the bottom line, and they really don't seem to give a crap about their customers.

5:54 PM
so if they want to shut down a server, they should have to provide a way for people to access their licensed content
EA want's to suck everyone dry

That's why they have persisted in using a broken, inconsistent, and generally useless DRM scheme for nearly a decade (even after every update to it is always cracked)...they don't care about the customer, they care about getting money from the customer. Everything they do is aimed at making the customer pay more.

they are worse on their employees than their customers
and that's saying something

I used to be a gamer, but after I found my wife through world of warcraft , games havent interested me. she stilll buys a month subscription every now and then, but I havent been online since cataclysm

The new SimCity is a perfect example. It is a RADICALLY gimped game, loaded with crappy DRM, and on top of it all...they nickle and dime you for EVERYTHING...the game is almost useless until you start buying little one-off things like larger map for your city, or other items.
@AJHenderson Yeah. Heh, back in 2003, when I was writing an editor for The Sims 3, hey invited me and a bunch of other community people from around the world to their headquarters.

yeah, SW:The Old Republic is more or less a guided tour of what not to do in a F2P game

5:56 PM
They actually offered me a job. I turned them down...after talking with a lot of the developers and content creators, they all played as though they loved their job, but all of them also dropped little hints about how oppressive the environment was.

it easily could have displaced WoW if it had been done right
but they did it wrong at every single possible turn
and it was all EA driven decissions

@AJHenderson I dunno...Blizzard is the untoppleable. ;)
I love Blizzard. Love their games, love their ethic.

in my prime I was competing as the best main tank on the server and raid leader for a top guild

in WOW?

the gameplay was truely ground breaking for SW:TOR, but it released with too many bugs and rather than push through and invest to get more content out, they lost subs because of the bugs and then cut all new content pretty much

5:58 PM
@AJHenderson Yeah...laws...man, these days, I'm not sure laws are any better. The whole system is so screwed up, top to bottom, edge to edge.

@MichaelNielsen I was a warrior MT from BC through Cataclysm

Too many alliances between government and corporations.

pff warrior...
I was pally tank :)

I'm not anti-corporation, but I'm generally against all the money-backed alliances between big business and big government that screw the customer.

and my 2nd char was DK tank
I tried to level a druid to be tank, too, but I have questing, so it never dinged 80/85

5:59 PM
@MichaelNielsen that's ok Michael, nobody is perfect

My problem with Adobe is that they effectively have a monopoly on their market. In the market segments they serve, there are very inferior OSS alternatives that don't do half of what Photoshop or Lightroom or Premier do. There are also far more expensive alternatives that are only viable for big businesses.
In their niche, Adobe effectively rules...and they are abusing their position as a default monopoly to suck the customer dry.
Sadly, outside of maybe Corel (which failed to compete a long time ago)...there really are no other commercial competitors that might but the fire to Adobe.
Maybe this will be a turnaround point for Corel. Maybe they'll get a lot of customers out of this, improve their revenues, and produce a product like PhotoPaint that competes with Photoshop again. I used Photopaint a long time ago...and it was very similar and very competitive against Photoshop.

I was one of the few people that actually did Warrior builds that could aoe tank though. It's too bad the way they killed the ability to do any kind of customization. Sure people mostly used cookie cutters, but that's just because they bought in to the BS about "best builds"
because molding to a particular situation is hard
though I suppose in the DPS world, there really can be a best build

Or maybe it was CorelDraw...

my wife and I both played for years and I actually have 85s of every class

either way...they used to have really competitive products

6:03 PM
for pally tanks there were plenty of options to customise

@jrista CorelDraw was pretty much always ahead of illustrator
until corel just kind of disappeared

I was often bored in teh end so Id respec 3-5 times a day
and test the new spec

@AJHenderson yeah...they disappeared rather fast
Right after the dotCom crash
I think they started to invest heavily in Linux, then linux flatlined

there were "best builds" for aoe and for singel target threat, but pallys didnt really need the best threat as they got aggro for sneezing anyway. so you could play around with auxilary skills instead
I hated double tanking with a warrior, as tehy couldnt grab aggro at all
after tank switch I besically had to run away to let the warrior keep aggro

@jrista they had a few problems, first was buying Word Perfect which got destroyed by Office, and they simultaneously were getting hammered on the graphics side by Adobe
They tried going up against two different major companies at the same time

6:07 PM
yeah

and got squeezed out of the market
@MichaelNielsen that's just because they didn't know how to build their toon
I could grab AOE threat off a pali even in BC

No it is because tehy didnt smash their buttons

but again, I had a highly non-standard build with some really odd stats on my gear
to make it work

I noticed on my DK , which required a lot of ability smashing, that if you press the buttons as the GUI shows they are ready, you perform only 50% of your ability
you really needed to smash the button before it was ready
all the noobs didnt know that

yes, but the traditional warrior build in BC was targeted at single target survival
at the expense of any kind of aoe tanking
which warriors were naturally far weaker at
due to lack of dedicated AOE threat gen abilities
you had to do it through damage primarily
and or target swapping

6:11 PM
in BC I wasnt serious. I was a social member, who sometimes got inved to raids. AOE tanking the mobs in mount hyjal was my entry to the raiding scene
I wasnt top dog till lich king

and if you built to maximize rage generation and boost damage while giving up just enough survivability to stay alive but not keeping an excess and did block based damage, you could do a lot

starting from Ulduar

LK was a cluster for warriors

what does that mean?

because bliz kept radically altering the key stat to do the best job
cluster f*$k

6:12 PM
ah
but BC was fun with Pallys gaining spell power

the best way to aoe threat build a warrior in early LK was to stack Block chance, then they got completely rid of that stat entirely and went from a highly mitigation based build to making all the content require high hit survival
so I was getting my ass handed to me for months in LK when the arena raid came out

in the end we got me the pink spell power mace and I wore some cloth to boost my aoe damage, it was pretty fun

and both the pali tanks thought I must suck
not realizing it was because prior to that change I took next to no damage and didn't need a bazillion HP
but bliz took that all away without giving me the gear I needed to rebuild
and they proceeded to go back and forth like that through most of LK
and still did it more in Cataclysm
though they did finally be kind of nice to warriors at the beginning of cata

in cata I was also just doing social, so tehre my DK was easier to level and get into raids, because even with my deprecated gear I could be top 5 dps
and get tanking gear as well
people hate a undergeared tank .
my pally tank got better luck as a healer
and managed to get to some real rading, also as tank in the end
and due to connections to 10man guilds form my prime time I managed to kill deathwing in a real raid
(not hte LFR type)

err, sorry, I confused that, the warrior bs continued through cata, it was start of pandaria that they were kind of nice for a bit
but yeah, I got bored with raiding in WoW because it got too easy for me, but still seemed to be too hard for anyone other than the die hard raiders
and it just got frustrating
because I didn't want to be die hard
but was perfectly capable of killing stuff
ended up starting my own guild in SW:TOR
but that eventually fell apart because they made the raid content really REALLY hard and didn't have enough of it

6:20 PM
guilding got tiring in the end

basically you could get everything other than the absolute hardest gear in SWTOR while soloing

alwasys the same crap

so there was no farming casually

teenagers acting stupid
summer period the gujild is falling apart

and the hardest difficulty was absolutely insane
like if one person makes one mistake or doesn't perform perfectly enough even, then the entire group wipes
and the fight goes on for like 10 minutes like that
and sometimes, it would just decide the RNG doesn't like you and wipe you even if you did things perfectly

6:22 PM
and always someone whining about loot priorities, and warriors taking leahter items, etc..

or a bug would just flat out prevent it from being possible
@MichaelNielsen oh come on now, who doesn't want to see a warrior in leather
I always looted leather gear to wear for my wife

well, if it is a female one :)

Microsoft is encroaching on Apple's iOS territory:
18.1% vs. 19.3%
Android is still the mobile king, though.
I suspect Microsoft will gain further ground once their smaller tablets are released at better price points...then they'll be competing directly with Android 7" tablets.

Android sucks
windows phone 8 ftw

agreed
LOVE my Lumia 920

6:25 PM
@MichaelNielsen hey now, them be fighting words

is there a WP8 version of the "transformer"?

best mobile device I've ever owned as of yet

@MichaelNielsen ?

you just need the right android device. There are lots of crappy android devices

6:25 PM
my in laws wnat a tablet/tranformer tpye of thing
to replace a laptop
so a wp8 tranformer would be perfect

Asus Vivotab
is what you are looking for Michael
it's the Windows 8 version of the transformer

my wife gave me a pint of beer which is a pilsner style with 10% alc. it hits like a truck , hahah
vivotab looks great

Michael...if you mean a hybrid device that can be a laptop or a tablet, Microsoft Surface with the Type Cover is basically that.
You get one of the best Windows 8 tablets, with a fully functional keyboard with depressable keys, that doubles as a cover...or flip it back under the stand to get it out of the way.

@jrista surface is nice, but it lacks the extended battery that the transformers have with the dock
that's my number one thing with why I only buy transformers for tablets
really hard to beat the 14 - 19 hour battery life numbers they can get
and the additional ports is great too

1000Euro!
Im not sure tehy are up for that price :)

6:32 PM
well there is the VivoTab and the VivoTab RT

@AJHenderson Yeah, currently. With Intel Haswell this summer, and improved power efficiency with Windows Blue...it'll be almost ARM level power usage.

VivoTab RT can come as cheap as $400 US
typically the x86 tablets are always in the pricier range

650Euro

Q: What is the Canon 50d made from?

Evan PakIs the canon 50d primarily made from plastic or from a magnesium-alloy? I have read things that point in either direction. I wasn't able to find anything on Canon's website either. So, does anyone know what it is made from?

Soooo tempted to say "It's made from dreams."

or innovation?

6:43 PM
what's the catch? there is no such camera?

what do you mean?
wht cameraisnt there?
"the camera is lie" hahha

the Canon 50D, I don't get it, why "made from dreams"?

@mattdm what about ground up babies

it exists and it is magnesium alloy, and it is common knowledge

ok, odd question then :P

6:45 PM
I guess thats his point :)

hmm, I must be missing something
The dust from colour is really, really fine. If you don't want to use a waterproof enclosure, or perhaps even with one, you might be well-served by using a long telephoto lens to take your shots from a good distance away. Your composition and the intimacy of the photo might suffer a bit, but your gear won't! — Chinmay Kanchi 9 mins ago
I think Stan is making a joke there but I'm not getting it
oops
wrong comment
photo.stackexchange.com/questions/38953/how-to-protect-camera-and-lenses-against-color-bombs/

qoute my wife (who is talking in italian over skype about me, I noticed): "I was just saying you are not programmed to be attentive of the baby while sleeping"

Sir, your language. That's a " a glorified plastic bag with reinforced seal and a cheap 'protection' filter", if you don't mind...

@mattdm - Snips and snails and puppy dog tails...

dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos50d/2 - quote "body material: magnesium alloy" hehe

6:49 PM
@AJHenderson - He's teasing a bit, suggesting that you've insulted the plastic bag by failing to recognize the value add of the crappy filter on the front.

anyone have a great recipe using ground/minced pork meat?
Im tired of meatballs with it

@JohnCavan ah, I wasn't sure what he meant by protective filter
got it

@MichaelNielsen - allrecipes.com is one of my favourite sites for recipes. Search "minced pork" for a fair number of hits. Might even get you guys to use spice a little... ;)
I've been to Aarhus a couple of times, the guys at TeleDanmark took me to a Mexican restaurant and I had to argue with the waiter for something hotter than tobasco...
He swore up and down that it was the spiciest chili they had ever served and it still felt like spaghetti sauce to me. I think I'm a bit of a chili head. :)
@MichaelNielsen - Try also epicurious.com (another of my favourites)

7:06 PM
I know those sites. I used to be very active on rec.food.cooking
participated in their r.f.c cookbook

Try searching for "ground pork" though, it's the more common term in North America.

I dont do danish cooking much. my italian wife even says I use psices.herbs more than italians do
danish food is mostly just salt and pepper

LOL... Yeah, I found Danish cooking to be mild, I like to spice it up too.

I do use sambal oelek, a type of indian chilli
but I dont see the point in making your mouth hurt
when I was young I thought it was cool :)
now I just use it as as way to balalnce the sweet/acid/hotness profile

Spice has to have flavour, otherwise there's no point. I did find that my tolerance dropped a bit when I quit smoking.

also hot food is more beer food and I prefer fine wines

The sambal oelek looks like something that would be fun and easy to make. Might have to try it.
Wine and extreme spice mix poorly.

I got an idea
sometihng like a mousaka with where aubergine is replaced with white cabbage
and beef meat sauce is pork meat sauce
that sounds like fun

Pork would substitute there, quite well I think. You could also try a pork lasagne, very similar. No eggplant your way or don't like it?

I dont have it. I opened the fridge and saw what I had :)
also cabbage and prok is well together
and I dont like pasta , so lasagne version is not so good

You don't like pasta and married an Italian... That has to be opposites attract!

haha
but actually she says she feels better , wiht my diet :)
it was hard to go from a diet of pasta and bread, to eating veggies, but she managed. she is still clinging to her bread
but I try to make it more whole grain wihtout being too heavy
and ometimes I give her some pasta

You cannot entirely eliminate pasta from the diet of an Italian... that would be almost cruel and unusual punishment.
Gotta run... meeting time.

@JohnCavan That's it exactly.
@JohnCavan I so-o-o get that. Especially here in Tronna. I keep ordering the things with the most chilis/fires on the menu, and they turn out to be what some call "white people hot".
You know, like "gosh, did you put pepper on that?" or "is that onion?"
Nary a palpitation to be had, let alone perspiration, post-nasal drip or a stinging sensation around the lips. Everything needs extra just to be warm.
