2:03 AM
^-- Rods and Cones in the center of the eye are actually 0.5 microns in size...so this is a photograph if half-micron cells! :o

2:22 AM
Second night in a row that my house has been egged :(

4 hours later…
5:57 AM
@rfusca :(
put a camera up?

@fluf ya, i have one up now

cool

and the cops are going to run extra patrols through the area

awesome :D
what do you think about water weeks so far?

lol, its nearly all coastlines
and I think almost every picture is a repeat - one we've had in a previous contest
they're good pictures though

6:03 AM
I need to explain how aperture causes bokeh in a way that is not f1.8 = '>bokeh' to someone that is not phot at all
I hate the word bokeh

i'm just disappointed that nobody is 'stretching'
lol

@rfusca yes I agree
more birds in water weeks than in air week :P

@fluf lol

@rfusca I wish I had some chemicals too make fire week interesting
I love how they all burn with different flames

....what chemicals?
ah, ic

6:06 AM
the powdery flamible type ?
green red and blue flames are awesome
red is a bit intense though

indeed
you could just add color in post though ;()

I'm not a fan of the pure white flame
then I'll have to edit the colour cast all over
Coffee time
yay Muffins <3

lol k

:/ mug burned me

coffee...its hot sometimes

6:14 AM
yeah that's why coffee making process is like 15-20 minutes
1 coffee 2 sugar then I wait for it to cool to a drinkable temp

ic ic

were other peoples houses also egged?

dont know

ahh screw tenses and grammer
in Afrikaans all past tens stuff is 'was'

lol
cop was pretty angry because apparently they egged less than a minute after the cops drove by my house

6:25 AM
crap :/ I'm turning 25 this year :/

lol

@rfusca hahaha
it's one of my school friends birthday today and its like 25y o. I had to think for a second how old I am before it sunk in :/
at least I have a couple months left

lol

6:40 AM
so what are you doing today(err -night)
technically last night :/

8 hours later…
2:23 PM
theres a questions in the blog that wasn't set to bold

2:58 PM
@fluf its fixed

3:42 PM
@rfusca awesome :D

4:36 PM
@rfusca Didn't I add a rule that it had to be new work?

@jrista i don't think so

haven't seen it either
maybe I missed it

nope, doesn't look like I did

@jrista you should enter something

hmm
I may have something
I'm actually surprised we don't even have one water droplet photo yet

4:46 PM
@jrista ya, its all landscapey lol

yeah :\

but there's plenty of time, contest runs next week too

5:32 PM
ok puppy killer fluf is back
I'm going to make puppies an extinct species :P

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
i've never destroyed a user account before....
;)

D:
D':
ok first i did reverse 50 without flash
I even added a bit of foil for reflectivity :D
and then I did the impossible... I'm sweating now because of it
50mm inverted on top of a 75-300 extended to about ~150mm very roughly
an hour for 32 photos :P
@jrista I'll post all my failed attempts now :P
really handheld macro is NOT a good idea

@fluf puppy killer?!?!

lol
yesterday, by rfusca
A puppy dies every time somebody uses popup flash.

ooh you can quote like that :?

5:40 PM
@fluf yes

really cant star that :/

just copy the permalink
@fluf have to star the original

I have some cool controls when I do use flash
you can set exp comp for the popup flash
so everytime you use the puppy killing machine

yup

exposure is sooo difficult

5:43 PM
@fluf lol
k

here is the third photo I took first 2 are rejected
I changed the pillow quite often :P from pink and white to light blue and green to black
wanted to see how the pillow affects the water

interesting

ok jelly(o) break :P
awesoem idea!!! jelly macro!!!
too much effort and planning involved to do it now

@fluf lol
macro is certainly fun

blue pillow
black messes up the exposure a bit mroe
I find bumping level of iso easier than changing the shutter speed
I couldn't go below 60th in any case ;P
and the best from the lens combo
dof changes totally when you stack lenses
the one telephoto was on f22
that entire green tip is less than 1mm in size
maybe I'll try tomorrow again :) it's a public holiday! :D then at least there will be sunlight

6:05 PM
finally, an interesting project at work

cool what is it about?

we have a whole bunch 100k+ of missing lat and longs geographic data and the names on the locations are massive abbreviations, so I have to try to determine a way to provide a "these are probably these 'real' locations"

ahh cool

i just like it because it doesn't have an obvious solution
its not a bug to just go fix
its a 'find the best way to solve this real issue we have' kind of thing

yeah

1 hour later…
7:13 PM
fun but shortlived

7:31 PM
@rfusca why? not going ahead ?

@fluf already done - matched the first 90% with a similarity() check in postgres and they said "good enough"

lol ok

ya
to say they were 'happy' is an understatement though
the lead dev told them it wasnt possible and they were gearing up a team of people to tackle it manually for a few weeks

haha
one of those cases where they should technically give you a small bonus :P because you had the knowledge to solve the problem in short time :)

@fluf yup
i just got a bonus last week though ;)

7:40 PM
nice :)

2 hours later…
9:38 PM
sigh this is what happens when I stay up too late
I get hungry again :/
midnight snack time

Interesting shots, @fluf.
You just experimenting with a reversed lens macro setup?

tnx :)
yep

You should find some insects.
Extreme macro really shines when photographing insect eyes.

yeah they are extremely tiny
I'll see what I can find tomorrow :)

9:43 PM
@fluf found this guy on my shoulder awhile back

D:
I dislike spiders a lot

@jrista those are rather difficult to do
@fluf me too

@jrista holy crap thats an awesome shot I like the hair

@rfusca Yeah, they require focus stacking. Just demonstrating whats possible. ;)

@rfusca those can jump right

9:46 PM
@jrista gotcha
@fluf yes

I actually dislike the smaller spiders more than the bigger ones

the small ones bite... (put me in bed for 2 weeks... was quite fun no balance at all) but the big ones are just scary :(
@jrista that looks too cute for a spider

yup :)

how close did you get to it :(

9:48 PM
not my shot

i c

but he was extremely close, and DOF is less than a millimeter
I love jumping spiders
every one of them has a unique hairdo
they all look like curious street punks

I doubt we have any spiders in our flat :)

looks like twisted his hair into an evil moustache :/

9:51 PM
hah, and if you thought the previous baby jumper was cute: jon-rista.deviantart.com/favourites/38376331?offset=600#/…

lol looks like a mini squid
or jelly fish rather :P

wow...you can tell this photographer was using a big diffuser on his flash by the reflection in the eyes: jon-rista.deviantart.com/favourites/38376331?offset=600#/…

I best be off to bed, night

night
