@MattBear Always go

Anonymous
you don't loose anything

Anonymous
but time

And time to deal with the human condition is all you have on this desolate planet orbiting a has-been star in a forgettable galaxy

quiet in here

8:10 PM
oh fun...i can't copy/paste into visual studio
and its intellisense is all screwy

eh, its as a contractor
I don't think the pay is as good as im getting now, which is crap

@Basil we already have big-deal pricing. Nobody really beats this vendor... unless they're doing something shady
@JoelESalas sup?

@ewwhite there's always someone who has a bigdeal with a bigger discount. At least, back in my day...

@ewwhite nm playboy

@Basil Every company I've worked for has bought from my vendor... It's hard to beat him.
@JoelESalas DO we have a date tonight?

8:22 PM
My right hand is so swollen....too much fappin apparently.

@JoelESalas Oh yeah, I'm heading to LA... Sunday. For a quicky visit. Need to get my airline miles for the year.

@ewwhite Oh nice!
I still want to do derrty produce work
Let me know if I can head with you to a client site

How does one create tags without asking a new question?

@JoelESalas I'm staying downtown. But I'm in Sunday night.. patting, then going to replace a firewall Monday, then flying home.
I'm 2,086 miles short of my yearly flying goal, so this is a silly trip.
I'll be back at a number of sites in January.

@ewwhite How are you going to make up the rest of the miles

8:28 PM
@JoelESalas Going to LA will give me 3,400... so that'll cover it

I didn't realize it was so far
How romantic

1700 each way

8:49 PM
Anybody have Google Apps?

@Jacob some

@Basil Ever tried to migrate from Exchange?

@Jacob ya
@Jacob Ohh, nope. trying to migrate from Domino right now. It's not pretty.

@Tanner Did you find that it likes to crash when you attempt to start it?

@Jacob I've found it likes to pound Domino until it cries for mercy. :)
Haven't dealt with Exchange though, sorry.

8:57 PM
I think I just figured it out, realized I don't have outlook on my workstation

@Jacob Oh, I misunderstood- I have, like, google apps on my phone and chrome :P

Anonymous

Wait, is that @Jacob Jacob? You don't look 12 anymore!
2

Woah.

neat, @Jacob grew up :P

9:11 PM
...His beard is stronger than mine. :(

wow surprised the number of users in here tonight!
excel 2000 @PatoSáinz
@Jacob don't know if having or not having Outlook is a blessing!

@ColdT Not having is a blessing, believe me.

Would still trade Notes for Outlook

@Tanner I'd trade Notes for a brillo pad handie.

ugh notes in outlook so rubbish, hasn't changed in about 10 years!
has anyone here used/using nimble storage by any chance?

9:18 PM

any good?

The questions...they burn....

Q: Prevent conflict ip

Pol HallenI've a small lan (192.168.1.0/24 - less than 15 machines), server is 192.168.1.200. I need prevent conflict IP from an user that put his machine's IP same of server, and lan goes down. I can do a subnet (something like 192.168.1.0/25) so I'll have 2 subnet. What's the best choice?

wow that needs to be cleaned up
holy crap "static arp table" -- seriously?!!

@MikeyB @Tanner I'd trade notes for a mouthfull of Vegemite.

@Basil You are dead to me
Comparing Vegemite to Notes

9:29 PM
@MarkHenderson I can't decide which one I hate more

@TheCleaner It's actually not a bad question.

I'm surprised there was never a "MDM" tag

@MarkHenderson who???

@MikeyB ME
6 mins ago, by Mark Henderson
@Basil You are dead to me

9:32 PM
mmm beer

@MikeyB It's a poorly "questioned" question. Little to no research done, no examples of what has been tried, etc. The issue is a valid one...but the whole "I have X issue...what's the best fix?" is a downvote IMO.

@MikeyB Does he even have a DHCP server? Why is this fuckass setting his IP manually? Missing some pieces of the puzzle...

@MarkHenderson yeah, true, once it's cleaned up it's a good question.

YOU SHOULD ALL BE DRINKING RIGHT NOW.

@cole FIXED

9:34 PM
FIX IT. NOW.

@cole Its 8.30am

@MarkHenderson ...and?

@cole 1:30 PM here and I'm still at work. Don't tempt me!!!

EXCUSES
Never had this beer before, Victory Brewing HopDevil.
I'm such a slut for a good IPA.

9:36 PM
That's me.
I'm a lush.
Ohh got some necro rep today.

lol, he keeps accepting the newest answer that comes along... @MikeyB

@TheCleaner who?

That last question I linked

God dammit, making me scroll.
Lulz.

@TheCleaner I want marauder. =(

9:42 PM
heh he changed it back again.
@MarkHenderson - you ever been to Coffs Harbour? I used to dream of moving there.

@ewwhite I'll take a few dozen if they are any good. I've never had them. I really liked KFC's "sauceless" spicy wings.

@TheCleaner I've been through it and stopped, but never stayed there
@ewwhite McDonalds in the US seems to be very different to here
Here McDonalds ahve gone to a lot of effort to be much less less trashy
And their staff are paid well enough

@84104 I read "I want murder"

@cole I want red rum.
Red optional.

9:52 PM
:D

@ewwhite You gonna buy em?

all dem wings
WINGS ON WINGS ON WINGS

@cole You're trashed aren't you?

Sadly, no.

9:56 PM
I'm just fucking weird.

McDonalds is a wreck in the US
I only eat it when I hate myself

Agreed

hope it dies and gets superseeded by burger king

10:02 PM
Just made an appointment with an Endocrinologist (hormone doctor) - they were super nice.

@MattBear I like the 2nd commenter. He's right. The employee agreed to a wage. McD's didn't come to them and demand they work there. They went searching for a job at McD's.

@TheCleaner That's mean

GUYS
Dammit, I forgot what I was going to say.

@TheCleaner heh yeah

moar hatz, please!!!

10:18 PM
Pinging @FalconMomot ^
Fascinating.

@TheCleaner heh read my comment

@Wesley slow!

SUSE, CentOS, or Ubuntu?

@ewwhite I prefer "developmentally hindered"

for a web server...

10:19 PM
@MattBear All of them!
using KVM
and LXC
@MattBear I prefer CentOS... devs prefer Ubuntu
SuSE is a non-factor in these decisions

I've used both, im comfortable in both, I know Ubuntu better, but I keep hearing "Ubuntu sucks!"

I'm partial to CentOS myself

@cole Is the partiality because you've used both extensively and have determined CentOS is better? Or because you've always used CentOS?

Happy Memory-Forensics-Thursday! I get called in to go malware hunting every once in a while.  It's usually after an automatic vulnerability scanner has found something unusual about a particular computer on the network and threw up a red flag.  Once a machine is suspected of being infected, someone needs to go in and validate whether what the vulnerabil

@cole I'm partial to creating a custom kernel for each client's systems, beginning with the Linux From Scratch project.

10:24 PM
@MattBear I found that for production servers, the stability, security and functionality of CentOS is better - IMO/my use cases.
@Wesley I will punch you in the dick.

@cole Don't! he likes that

e_e

@ewwhite Don't miss access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/… ... Now with virtual CPU hot ass!

@MichaelHampton Means people didn't plan well!

well, crap, our esx host is wedged but the vms are alive
hard to live migrate a flotilla of vms when you can't talk to the host :(

10:29 PM
Doh

@RyJones single host?
not in a cluster?
what's wrong with the server?
@RyJones can you SSH to it?

@Wesley Thanks for the tweet man, appreciate it. :)

@RyanRies Looks nifty.

It's a cluster, we could not ssh to it, IT says they are ssh'd in and working on the migration now

@RyJones did they try /sbin/services.sh restart
that usually resolves any issues contacting the host
@MarkHenderson can attest to that.

10:31 PM
@ewwhite not sure, I'm sitting in a group IM to find out what is going on

@ewwhite Oh, and LXC is finally a thing

@MichaelHampton in RHEL7?
because the way I do it takes a little bit of manual work
startup scripts and VM placement, etc.

@ewwhite Yup
It's still a bit rough around the edges but it's functional and they seem to plan to enhance it further during the lifecycle
And..yep, they're shipping firewalld :(

@ewwhite Damn straight
Which is not the same as restarting it via powercli

@MichaelHampton iptables v. firewalld in 50 words or less: GO!

10:44 PM
@MDMarra firewalld is too complicated where it should be simple and too simple where complexity is needed.

got it

In other words, it's enterprisey

@MDMarra firewalld is yet-another-firewall-management-product, this time with dbus.

I don't believe in host-firewalls

@ewwhite except for adding forwarding rules

10:46 PM
I firewall everything.

man I work on dbus all day

@tylerl naw... I leave it all open!

@ewwhite I don't believe in firewalls. Ports were intended to be free!

@Wesley ports want to be open!
and also prefer to be anthropomorphised.

@tylerl The ports on the server go SYN SYN SYN

10:47 PM
@Wesley All the way to ACK

@MarkHenderson Oh I'll SYN your ACKs alright...

Whoa
It gets to homosexual in here around 6PM EST.

yeah, everyone knows you ACK a SYN, not the other way around.

@MichaelHampton that killed the conversation pretty quick.

10:49 PM
NewRelic called me...
I think they know I'm taking advantage of their product...

@ewwhite Let me guess, New Relic wants you to come and work on healthcare.gov

I think they want me to pay more.

@tylerl It sounded better than "All the way to SYN-ACK"

@ewwhite Sellouts.

@ewwhite KEYGEN

10:54 PM
@MDMarra No, I definitely pay...
but I think I'm paying $44/mo. for 82 servers.
and it's supposed to be like... $50/mo. per server

Wow

I think I exploited some loophole in their system

"Loophole"

due to a code change or being grandfathered into something

They did change their pricing structure recently.

10:56 PM
the pricing package I started on is no longer available
@MichaelHampton so that's not my fault, right?

@ewwhite Nope... and their FAQ does say you can keep your pricing plan, unless you add more hosts.

I had the pro trial... at the end of it, some guy was calling and said to buy...
so I bought one license to see what would happen
and the features were enabled everywhere

Haha. So you were supposed to be paying $44 for one server, and you got all 82. Nice.

@MichaelHampton and more... as I add them
(it's part of my default Puppet class)

Yeah, I can see why you might have sales reps contacting you.

11:00 PM
so I offered them my produce business... e-commerce applications at 140 produce customers... (I still need to talk to the produce software company)
and then a few of my clients who would like to use new relic, but can't afford it.
so NewRelic is giving me enterprise features, multi tenancy and permissions...
as a proof-of-concept.
I asked them about targeting MY market... Lazy Sysadmins... SO there's more to discuss

Ice cream for dinner because I'm a god damn adult.

@MichaelHampton do you use it?

@ewwhite New Relic? Nope. First time I tried it, it broke the application. I haven't tried it again...

@MichaelHampton Try it again... or at least load it on a server to see the pretty pictures
c'mon that's almost as pretty as Observium
@Wesley BTW, that head dev at Observium is a trip!

OK, I'll give it another shot...after I get some of my backlog cleared

11:15 PM
@MichaelHampton @JoelESalas and I can help you with your load.

Yeah, but then I'd have to pay you.

@MichaelHampton Not @JoelESalas. He's in it for the experience.

Haha, maybe then. But right now it's dinner time!

I really want thai food
But I have no friends.

@ewwhite Yeah he is. What happened to you?
@ewwhite Did the bad man hurt your butt?

11:27 PM
we used the shit out of new relic a few years ago. It was pretty OK

@Wesley no, he's just a dick
I was reading the mailing list archives

New Relic, pure awesome!

-Heroku

@RyJones just okay?

New Relic on Heroku, a bag of fat lies!

-Rap Genius

@MDMarra that was our experience

11:36 PM
@RyJones I assume you saw the actual bullshit collusion between Heroku and New Relic to hide the fact that Rails dynos on Heroku don't intelligently route requests anymore?

@MDMarra yes I'm totally up to speed on that.
we used it before that happened, and our experience was it was pretty good for steady state usage. Like I said, it was OK, and since we were based on Heroku, it was the best we had

@ewwhite Yeah, I don't get him. Seems really unpleasant.

@Wesley he was good friends with my boss at the company Ethabelle and I worked at. The boss has the same demeanor.
Put in a long work day... time to go home.
oh, office-life...

@ewwhite You're not working from home, eh?

new client in chicago

11:44 PM
@ewwhite are they pleasant people?

@ewwhite Is this the game developer?
