12:34 AM
@jscott bite

@Wesley Oh dear, will I require a tetanus shot for that?

@jscott No, just rabies.

Ah good... think I'm up to date on that one.

@FalconMomot I have a saddle just like that!

12:41 AM
@MarkHenderson headbutt Wait, it's Saturday for you!

@MarkHenderson 'grats mate.

@MarkHenderson WOOOO!

Your wife's bra strap is showing.

@Wesley Was wondering if you knew him =)

12:42 AM
Sophie Jade Henderson, 4.46 kg , 56.5cm

@MarkHenderson Congratulations.

@MarkHenderson Congratulations. I owe you one drink. Please mark it down.

@MarkHenderson Daughter's face: "What the fuck just happened..."

@MarkHenderson Everyone home yet?

Thanks everyone
Not home yet, was only born 13 hrs ago and Angela lost a bit of blood, so she will come home tomorrow morning

12:44 AM
Hope each of you can get some rest soon. Baby making makes for tiring days.

@MarkHenderson And if you think you're having a tough time, count your lucky stars that you're not an elderly lady that I met today. 93 now, she's a mother of 6 children, and when she was young she had TWO SETS OF TWINS a mere TEN MONTHS apart when she already had 2 and 3 year old toddlers.

Oh dear. Things looking up otherwise?

@MarkHenderson Congrats, glad to see everyones okay

@magellan - 6 kids is just insane. 2 is where we hop off the baby making train
@scottp yeah everything is fine otherwise. Just hates being in the hospital and wants to come home

@MarkHenderson Oh sure, I totally remember what that feels like. Huzzah!

12:47 AM
I'm at my in laws now with our 4 year old who is going to meet her soon

@MarkHenderson I like the name and congrats again.

Thanks @jacob and everyone

@MarkHenderson That's a big healthy girl. Weighs more than my 2 girls did combined.

Yeah my wife makes big babies. Our son was 4.3kg and 53cm

actually, that's 1.75kg more than the larger of my 2 daughters weighs even at 2 months old.

12:51 AM
@MarkHenderson It's not like she did it alone....

She did all the hard work on her own lol

@MarkHenderson Be glad you weren't Dec 25th 26th and half the 27th. 2nd one was born 5:30am Christmas day.
@MarkHenderson Our 1 year old was about 10 mins away from seeing her little sister being born

@MarkHenderson Well yeah, making the baby is easy. Actually bringing it into the world not so much.

@Jacob Ha. You think "bringing them into the world" is the hard part? Try the first 2 years after they're born when you won't be allowed to sleep for 5 straight hours.

@Magellan I have no idea
but the birth can't be all that fun

12:55 AM
@Jacob All of them are different, plenty fun for dad typically ;)

@BigHomie How is it fun?

@Jacob 10lb baby: Would you rather be pitchin or catchin?
Well, I can't speak for all dads, but I had fun, both times. Last especially, like I said; 5:30am Christmas Day, that was a very fun drive to the hospital. Besides that, I was there coachin wifey the whole time, cut the cord, took pictures, while my wife lay there in Biblically awful pain.
Roads were surprisingly empty at 4:00am on Christmas morning, not even a cop in sight.

1:10 AM
@BigHomie He's like 14 years old, he doesn't understand the joys of progeny yet. =P

@Wesley -_-

@Wesley You're thinking of @PatoSáinz, Jacob says he's legal.

@BigHomie Close enough.

@BigHomie I'm pretty sure I had an ID that said that after about the time I was 15.

@Magellan I didn't think so, but apparently some part of them is? At least the person that has the Twitter account is sufficiently amused by me. =P

@Jacob "customising" "personalisation"

@PatoSáinz that entered the general public lexicon? Really? That's the verb we used for the little shit rugrats who tarted up their Honda Civics with gaudy garbage add-ons.

@Magellan not general public, acquired it while on 4chan

@Jacob As in "ricer"

@Jacob He's T337

1:35 AM
I just had a brick of pork belly!!!

@ewwhite that vegetable ganache on top really, really, really looks like a cock.
pork belly and man meat.

Okra == cock

Ahh, give me some deep fried okra. I'm hungry now!

@FalconMomot You have cock on the brain.

@Wesley no, just on the groin.
what, you have no comeback?
:P

1:48 AM
@FalconMomot You said everything there was to say. =P

@Wesley Finish your sentences, do I?

@FalconMomot I am about to eat a giant...

@Wesley All of him? Poor giant.

@FalconMomot -.-
Brownie. The correct answer was brownie.

1:50 AM
@ShaneMadden You got tickets for tomorrow's game?
@FalconMomot Pfft. I looked at that and thought "Broccoli?! Who eats broccoli with their bro... ohhhhhh."
=P
@FalconMomot I never got into eating it as a teen. Well... there was that one time when I kinda had to eat it. Quickly. <_<
Even among 16 years olds, 16 year old me was sooo stupid.

see? legalization is an effective harm-reduction strategy :)

@FalconMomot I actually agree with that, as a non-user.
@FalconMomot You're back in Calgary, right?

@Wesley been there since april. I'm going back to seattle next week.

@FalconMomot Oh cool.
@FalconMomot Written anymore articles?

@Wesley nope. just code I can't show off.

2:01 AM
@FalconMomot Boo.

there's going to be an armed revolt if the project continues at its current pace

@FalconMomot By whom?

I'm annoyed by people who use these kinds of usernames:
@FalconMomot Nice.

@Wesley (that's not me)
@Wesley I hate these too

2:04 AM
@FalconMomot I actually thought it probably was. =P
@FalconMomot I want to ring their doorbells and run.

@Wesley I work with him though.

@FalconMomot Same company you mean?

Man, I don't have a mohawk. I wouldn't fit in. =(

@Wesley it's easy to get one

@FalconMomot Not enough guns and parapets, but yeah that's the general idea.

@Wesley there were several!

2:08 AM
@FalconMomot Oh also, Google Image Search for Zdzisław Beksiński. Artist who I thought you might appreciate. Maybe even decorate some space with his prints.
This is one of my favorites:

@Wesley That's a probe. If it was posted successfully the spammers can detect which URL format is in use here.

@MichaelHampton There speaks a man with a lot of experience with spammers.

@MichaelHampton hmm?

@FalconMomot Notice the single letter difference in each one?

@MichaelHampton oh, I see the different markup.

2:10 AM
Of course, since that shit never really gets through in the first place...

@Wesley morbid.

Yeah, completely automated. Just posting to every form it finds.

@FalconMomot Spooky. Morbid to me is the cover art for Cannibal Corpse. =P

@Wesley I think the art is about death?

@FalconMomot Maybe? Kinda?
But Cannibal Corpse is about torturous murder and gross abuse of corpses. =P

2:16 AM
@Wesley I can't think of a picture to reply to that with that won't have me banned.
hmm, actually

Spambot is back.
Spambot no! You're only hurting yourself!

@ScottPack ...no.

Excellent.

@FalconMomot: ow ow ow ow ow.

3:14 AM
so unsurprisingly, mongodb is again worse than useless

but but
ITS WEB SCALE!
which I presume means is a tangled mess with lots of bugs

mongos> ISODate()
ISODate("2014-04-26T03:15:06.491Z")
mongos> ISODate()+1
Sat Apr 26 2014 03:15:08 GMT+0000 (UTC)1
mongos> ISODate()-1
1398482110865
mongos> ISODate("2014-04-25T20:52:59.138Z")-ISODate("2014-04-25T20:51:35.732Z")
83406
make sense of that
but when I compare them in an aggregate, it treats them as milliseconds since some epoch I don't know which.

3:31 AM
mongos> new Date(ISODate().getTime() + 3600000)
ISODate("2014-04-26T04:30:55.522Z")
apparently that's how you get one hour from now. ugh.

@BigHomie also lol at "DDoS"

4:04 AM
@FalconMomot Speaking of less than useless. Graylog2 pretty much requires syslog match exactly RFC 5424. Which isn't necessarily unreasonable until you realize that the only thing that does do RFC 5242 syslog is syslogd.

@PatoSáinz little late aren't you? D. Dos

@ScottPack heh
I can beat that perhaps
in mongodb aggregations, the only way to cast a value to an integer (ie. to stratify a scalar) is to... subtract the value modulo one.

@FalconMomot Graylog2 pushes everything into mongodb and then into elastic search.

@ScottPack can we abolish nosql?

Or something. I dunno, it's all wibbly wobbly devopsy.

4:07 AM
if this was being done using SQL I'd have been done hours ago.
(and that is what we will find with "devops" bullshit: increased costs and poor maintainability)

I'm not necessarily hating on the idea of nosql necessarily. I just hate on weird apps that make themselves cool by taking a taste of everything off the bright and shiny buffet.

yes, and that has been around for a while
I know a lot of developers who seem to think the way to build an application is to put a bunch of libraries together with glue and tape.
the more the better, it seems.

FTR I'm also all for a multitude of different database designs and formats. For example, Oracle has freaking badass performance when you're dealing with indexable fields. It just blows for free text searches.

you can buy full-text-search tools for Oracle.
. . . well maybe not you, but the prince of Saudi Arabia might be able to afford it if he sells a palace.

@voretaq7 ${job[-1]} was a full on Oracle shop.
Oo....that feels nice.

4:21 AM
@ScottPack . . . like getting up and speaking at a support meeting?
"Hello, my name is @ScottPack, and I'm a recovering Oracle environment administrator"

@voretaq7 Oh heavens no. That's what the sysadmins and dbas were for.
It just feels nice to say "was"

@ScottPack Didjya do a happy dance? :)

Too brain fuzzy.
I did stand up. Briefly.
Apparently some of our TV stations have been a bit...iffy on recordings lately. I'm debugging.
Also. I hate debugging this shit.

mmm
I can tell it's the older of the two PVR-150s. I wonder if it's a hardware problem.

4:35 AM
Remember to use the "residual" stuff or the bugs just come right back :)

I mean, I only bought it in 2006.

@ScottPack Bah! it should have at least 2 more years left! They just don't make digital recording appliances like they used to!

I'm annoyed that I can't figure out how to get the signal strength out either.

Bob
@MarkHenderson @andrew smh.com.au/comment/… <== because that works SO WELL in the US, doesn't it? /s

4:51 AM
@ScottPack to be fair, I was writing a function called "get_analyzer_runtime_recency_strata"
it's just that I know that what I was doing would have been trivial in SQL, but in mongodb's CRUD it looks like a nest made of snakes.

Oh, it probably is.
Although, the thing that really annoys me with saying "I know SQL so it would be easy" is "What flavor of SQL?"

@ScottPack any SQL which implements the basic standard.
it was uncomplicated.
like in terms of project-select-join-aggregate it was easy to make
mongo doesn't have that concept exactly, though it approaches it.
of course mongo renames a lot of basic concepts without changing them
"match" == "select" for instance.

clearly

I also think about data problems in terms of temporary tables, which is something that is difficult to do with mongo

I take back what I said earlier. This sounds boring.

5:00 AM
unbelievably so.
it's nothing more than me ranting "I don't like tool X because it is fundamentally and objectively broken."

Speaking of. I'm going to bed. Of the two same chipset cards (different manufacture dates) the primary had noisy video but the secondary was mostly good. I threw in an amp and everything looks good. Phaw.

yah, me too. but only fun working-stuff on weekends, not boring stuff :D

3:15 PM
hey cole

hey @JennyD - how are you?

I work Tue - Sat, so today is my Friday. I can't wait to sleep in tomorrow, and on Monday I have a meeting with an advisor at the local community college about taking classes this summer.

3:48 PM
@cole I'm good - managed to do an IKEA run with a minimum of aggravation, so that's good... and the sun is shining and it's getting warm, lovely spring day!

@JennyD nice! Rainy day here and I'm working but oh well :)

@cole Will you at least get some other day off in return for working a Saturday?

@JennyD Never do lol.
Proud of myself though, my ex (who's a straight woman and whom I moved to where I live/took the job I have for) - decided to text me after 9 months 2 days ago. Talk a bit but told her bluntly that I cannot talk to her because it isn't good for me. Which was really difficult but a huge step for me to actually stand up for myself.

@cole at least they should pay you well!

@JennyD didn't even get a raise this year!
Because I left for 2 months - although the other guys on my team that do shit got their 2%.

3:50 PM
@cole That is really something to be proud of!

But whatever, it is what it is.
@JennyD it was pretty tough for me, I then went into the bathroom at work and cried a little for the first time in 9 months. I feel relieved though now, and much better. At least her and I are on amicable terms if we run into each other (she lives a 30 sec drive from my apartment and works for one of my best friends)

@cole I think you are amazing to be able to do this - crying afterwards is not a bad thing, it's a way of letting the tension out

@JennyD felt better to finally cry after 9 months.

@cole nod

It is a bit interesting how much life has gotten significantly better in those 9 months. (Of course, I've been really, REALLY trying.) and sadly, hers has crumbled.

3:56 PM
Sometimes I think people think too hard about things, and feel their emotions too much...

@KevinSoviero some people are just sensitive, like myself, and that's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

@cole From what you've said here it's obvious that you are really working on getting to a better place, and you should be proud of that too. Especially that you tried the other job, which takes courage, and then left it when it didn't work out, which takes both courage and the ability to let go of stuff that doesn't work.
@KevinSoviero I... can't really make sense of that.

@JennyD she did say when I told her that - that she understood and also said, "You've really come into yourself, I'm proud of you."

@cole I'm kind of impressed by her too, it's not easy to hear that an ex doesn't want contact - it was gracious of her to answer like that.

@JennyD yeah, I was too. She's growing up (will be 25 this year) but now that I can take a step back - she has a lot of work to do on herself and I can't shoulder that for her. She didn't do it for me, either.

4:00 PM
@JennyD I'm just saying that people seem to be too fragile. They over think things like relationships, and don't pay attention to what really matters in life which is the happiness derived from yourself, not others.

@cole Nobody can do that for another person, and trying to will end up making one or both miserable

I've made a real effort these past few months to cut out the toxic people in my life and make new friends that really care.

I solved this problem long ago, I retreated into myself, and now view others as ships to pass in the night. I'm also on antidepressants and find myself acting more logical and rational recently due to not feeling much else.

@KevinSoviero I'm glad that you have found a solution that works for you. I don't agree with the sweeping statements made above, though.

@KevinSoviero popping pills to feel better helps?

4:04 PM
Best thing I ever did was get off my medication and start doing things like working out, playing softball and spending time with friends.

@JennyD LOL

@MichelZ I'm a little bit of a trans-humanist in the sense that I think we should be augmenting ourselves with technology. Drugs are a tool like any other to make yourself better.

@MichelZ For some people, yes "popping" pills is what helps (although I dislike the wording). Not all depression is caused by outside influences; when the trouble is with your brain chemistry then changing that chemistry is what helps.
It's like pain. If you've got pain caused by a broken leg, then fixing the broken leg is obviously the long-term solution - but relieving the pain while it heals is not "popping pills". And when you've got chronic pain from something that really cannot be fixed, then again, "popping pills" is the right thing to do.
2

@JennyD Exactly right.
Of course, it could be that everything I'm saying is bullshit, caused by the fact that I'm sitting in an empty, dark office while everyone else is home! ;)
It's creepy as hell here.

4:09 PM
@KevinSoviero That sounds unpleasant
I, on the other hand, am going out to dinner with my husband now in the lovely spring evening... see you later!

@KevinSoviero no lights? are they keeping you locked in a basement? nod three times if we need to call the police.

@JennyD enjoy!!

@JennyD have fun!

@MichelZ I can't find the light switch, I've tried every one I can find, and they all control different things. I gave up.

@MichaelHampton Solution: Don't be a bothersome dickbag and you won't get shuffled off the streets?
Then again, 1.5 million views, let me do some calculations on that...

@Wesley Definitely Over 9000

@MichaelHampton who would complain - it's fucking funny.

@cole @Wesley would

@MichaelHampton Yeah okay, upwards of $10k, probably no less than $7k in ad revenue for that one video alone? I'd piss people off for a few days and get barked at by cops for that.
@cole I would after a while yeah, it's obnoxious as fuck.

8:45 PM
It's hilarious

Unless they agreed to share the ad revenue.
I should dress like as snowman and scare people. Wanna be my camera guy @cole?

I love to scare people
I think it's so fricken funny

Snowman? In Arizona? People will never buy it.

9:37 PM
@Wesley I haven't run in a couple of weeks so still 35ish

9:59 PM
@Iain That's still better than me.
I have endurance issues.
=P
Although in my defense my training is on a treadmill that I put on an incline and I make sure to run at intervals of no less than 6.5 miles per hour, which might be a bit much for someone who just started running barely a month ago.

@Wesley I still can't run 5k - I have to run 200 paces then walk 50

@Iain Let's see, I'm at 5 to 8 minutes at a 3MPH walking pace, then running intervals (90 seconds running, 2 minutes resting, 60 seconds running, 60 seconds resting) then a 10 minute cool down at 3MPh walking.
That's 5kph in imaginary numbers
