@JonathonByrd imho the concept of "IQ" is bollocks
@hammar imho i don't think you can hold the belief of evolution through random mutation and also hold the belief that anything has a "use". I think use implies design.
Punctuated equilibrium (also called punctuated equilibria) is a theory in evolutionary biology which proposes that most species will exhibit little net evolutionary change for most of their geological history, remaining in an extended state called stasis. When significant evolutionary change occurs, the theory proposes that it is generally restricted to rare and geologically rapid events of branching speciation called cladogenesis. Cladogenesis is the process by which a species splits into two distinct species, rather than one species gradually transforming into another. Punctuated equil...
weird it didn't link name on that

@TylerGillies "use" may have been a bad word. I meant that since it does not result in anything in the organism, it is neither an advantage nor a liability so it just gets carried along
A really cool thing is in one of those unused dna segments. it's the remains of sequences normally found at the ends of chromosomes, except they're in the middle
It turns out that the other great apes have 24 chromosome pairs, while we only have 23
So those segments contain evidence that two chromosome pairs got fused into one
